    Not so velvety oat cap
    Amy C.

Home of the velvet foam? I don't think so, lol. Former barista here - the beans are burnt, there is zero crema in the foam, and it's certainly not "microfoam" which is the velvety texture you want in a real cappuccino. They just dumped foam into espresso. I've been here several times and it's always the same. Decent work/read/chill space but C&P is superior and the coffee and food is a hard pass for me - train your baristas better.

I got a small vanilla latte ($4.95?) and it was delicious. Puts Starbucks to shame. The service was excellent and efficient. I added a chocolate hazelnut biscotto ($3). The ambiance is very relaxing. On the day I was here the garage door was open to the outside. Beautiful stai glass.

This place lives up to the motto on the front of the building: "home of the velvet foam." It's so yummy. Baristas were very friendly and fun to joke around with. Good vibe inside - love the puzzles and games they have available for you to use.

Double tall drip coffee and ginger molasses cookie!
    Tanis L.

Uptown Espresso is amazing. I came here after doing some field work for a project of mine on the West Seattle Bridge which was prime time to be captivated by this place. They even had an artistic rendition of the Spokane Street Bridge way back when. Something that makes me smile big. There was one worker that I could see while I was there, he was friendly with all of the customers that he interacted with while I was there including me. I was looking for some morning caffeine and a something to eat. I first spotted the bagels on display then noticed a tray higher up in the display case and saw a few massive cookies. One looked like a ginger cookie, so I read the food items menu and sure enough they had ginger molasses cookies. So that was it, I was getting the ginger molasses cookie. I also chose to go with the double tall drip coffee. Prices were not posted for the food items, so the worker double checked that I wanted to purchase the cookie as it was $6. Heck yes! I love me ginger cookies, and ginger molasses are the best because they are thick and chewy and this one had big sugar sprinkles on it that would add a slight crunchy texture. So I got both and enjoyed them as I made my way home. Both the cookie and the coffee were delicious. This may be premature, but the ginger molasses cookie is the best ginger molasses cookie I have had. The coffee was smooth and not bitter. I saved a portion of both the cookie and the coffee for my parents to try when I got back home and they liked them both as well. Bold choice to go with carpet for a bakery and cafe, and I loved it. Fun decor and all round experience.

It can get busy on the weekends, but this Goblin knows what it's like to be slammed, so I wait patiently and be respectful. It's nice to see an unpretentious flavor forward cafe run by young women doing so well. Their Hazelnut lattes don't lack flavor and taste like you "don't get it". Their coffee tastes like you were finally invited to the dance. While the market has decided that a Goblin will pay at least $8 for a coffee now, I'll fight back my Goblin tears and say "WORTH IT, WORTH IT, YOU ARE WORTH IT!". I took 1 star off because no place is perfect. I'd also like to see patrons of West Seattle businesses do more as a community to keep these spaces clean and tidy.

It was the beginning of February I had an interesting drink item there. Since I was debating between their mocha, chai, and latte. I had the best of three worlds. It just so happened that they were going to be putting their Valentine's specials out soon. That was going to be on their menu and it was suggested to me. It was very chai/spice forward which I like in my chai drinks. The Mocha profile was a bit faint for me as well as the espresso. They competed for my attention and the chai won out in the end. I can say I enjoyed it, but am more curious about how they are as their own individual drinks. Other worth while mentions. They don't currently make their own syrups, but since it's a popular question. I'm sure they are considering it a possibility I'm the future. Lastly, the individual who helped me. I didn't catch their name, but they were extremely nice and patient with me. Happily answered my questions. I highly recommend trying this place and can find myself coming back if I'm in the area I'm need of some caffeinated beverages.

Per the cashier, unlike previous years, where they often sold Paczki for several weeks leading up to the celebration, this year, they will only have them on Tuesday. Apparently every single one is handmade by the owner, Pâtissier William Leaman, and this year, he's been too busy with the 2026 Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie competition as the US team's coach. That's certainly a great excuse! When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon a bit after lunch, this place was still quite busy with a line that stretched to the door, but not outside. As with the Burien location, I find the ordering process to be a bit of a pain; while there are plenty of workers to help, ordering is slowed due to the fact that the display cases are placed in a line and there's not much room in the building to maneuver to the desired display. In our case, while we had someone helping us all the way in the back of the line, we weren't able to select anything until we got all the way to the pastry case in the front. I'm not sure there's a good way to solve this conundrum, though. At any rate, we ended up only getting a single pastry (that was new to us) to try this time. Brown Sugar Pecan Brioche ($5) - This pastry looks like a glistening pecan sticky bun at first glance, with a cinnamon roll-like pinwheel structure and a brown sugar glazed pecan topping. Since it's brioche, I expected it to be dense, but soft, rich, and sweet. This bread is anything but. It's dense, dry, crumbly, almost clay-like in mouthfeel; basically everything brioche should not be. Instead of a sticky caramelized coating over the pecans, the pecans are glued on with only the thinnest of sugar coatings. The pastry doesn't claim to be a sticky bun, so it gets a pass there. Unfortunately the base layer is absolutely terrible, by far the worst "brioche" I've eaten in years. It has all the flavor of hard tack with the unpleasant mouthfeel of Play-Doh. Canned Pillsbury cinnamon rolls are far better than this waste of perfectly good ingredients. The owner should be ashamed to release this swill to the public. (1/5) Why am I giving Bakery Nouveau a 5? Because they serve some of the best twice baked croissants known to man. The Capitol Hill location is my go to for a sweet and buttery treat and I still recommend it to everyone that visits me, specifically for the almond and chocolate twice baked croissants. The paczki are no slouches either; probably the best we can get around Seattle. Bathrooms - Single unisex room. Note: There will be some walk in availability for paczki on Tuesday, but the cashier told me that they will likely sell out by 10AM. Looks like an early morning trip to the Capitol Hill location is in my near future.
