Our office has ordered staff lunches from many restaurants and Freshbowl is definitely our favourite! The staff is very friendly and helpful and the food is always so fresh and delicious! We have ordered every dish from Freshbowl and we have loved every dish! The 2 favourites are the stir fried beef and the pad thai prawns! Brendan is always so kind to offer suggestions and help with our inquiries right away. We order around 30 dishes from Freshbowl every other Friday and they are always prepared and delivered right on time. Everything is packed and labelled neatly and clearly. I always like the Bali salad here, but tonight it was awful. The lettuce was wilted, the eggs had a strange texture, there was no jicama at all in it, but the worst was the dressing. The maple lime dressing tasted (and smelled) fermented. I called to let them know they may want to pull it and the girl merely said, ok, thanks, and hung up. read more

A couple of coworkers LOVE this place and want to come for lunch every week. I've tried it now a few times and each time I feel like their food is fairly bland. It's not BAD, by any means. It tastes fresh, overall well-prepared food just completely lacking in flavor. For me, it's just not really worth coming back to on a regular basis. However, I read all the horrible reviews on here about how overpriced it was, and I felt it was worth letting readers know that they do have a lunch special which is $10 including any bowl and a cup of either their hibiscus ice tea or their calamansi iced tea. Hadn't been by this area in a while, so the new signage caught my eye. It said southeast asian food or something under the store name, so I was hooked as I hadn't had any southeast asian in a while. Modern fast food looking place, but not in an overly cheesy way, perhaps the colours were just a bit juice bar-ish. Prices were a bit on the higher side, and I was overwhelmed by the selection as most of the bowl options are unique and you need to read the description to know exactly what each is all about. Don't know if they have menus on the counter (didn't ask), but I ended up staring up at the menus on the wall for quite a while like an idiot. Counter-girl suggested the something-trio when I said it was hard to decide and I said sure. It's beef rendang, some prawn thing, and a chicken thing (curry?). The rice I picked was a mix of three rices: brown, wild and basmati I think. A nice change from regular white rice and a trend I like. Wasn't paying attention a lot to other stuff on the menu, but the smell of the food that you noticed when you walked, seemed very authentic so I was optimistic. The trio was $14 which was pricy, but I'm one who doesn't mind a little extra if I get variety. Plus a thai iced milk tea for $3. Seating's a bit limited, so coming solo or in pairs is best. Service was quick ( I was the only one in at 2pm) and the portion was fairly generous. I've had rendang in malaysia and by real malaysian cooks elsewhere and while this wasn't the best I've ever had, it ranks as being very good, something I would have again. Prawns had bite to them and not mushy like ones that have been pre-cooked and held. Chicken I don't remember much about, as it was just in the way of getting to the rendang. Had some fresh clean bean sprouts on top. Milk tea tasted good, but had as much ice as could possibly fit in the cup. So much that I couldn't even jam my straw into the cup using the hole in the lid. A few people came in while I was there, and someone next to me had a Laksa which was very aromatic. Would probably try that next time. All in all, I get the sense that the food quality and authenticity is up there. A regular bowl and a drink will be about $10-15 and I don't mind doing that once in a while, maybe once a week if I worked or lived in the neighbourhood. But since I don't, it'll probably be a while before I'm back. For others who may not value authenticity of the flavours as much as me, I can see the price being a dealbreaker. read more

I flew into Vancouver for business. A friend recommended this place so I thought I'd check it out, as I love Asian food and didn't have much time to eat. Needless to say, I was looking forward to this experience and had high expectations. I ordered the Roti Canai first, and it was great. It was warm and crunchy, but still soft on the inside. The curry dipping sauce was great as well. For the main course, I had the Spicy Sambal with Brown Rice and Prawns. This dish smelled great, was flavorful, and tasted delicious overall. I'm a huge fan of spicy dishes, so I really enjoyed it. However, this dish definitely isn't for people who tend towards milder foods - it's really, really spicy. Overall, I really enjoyed Fresh Bowl. The food is great, the decor tasteful and modern, and items are fast to arrive. I know I'll be back the next time I visit Vancouver. read more

Gone downhill !!! I used to love this place to get a healthy flavourful rice bowl! Now its a total rip off !!! The rice bowl is $10.45 and they don't do broccoli anymore so their idea of veggies is a couple slivers of kale, no joke, when I say slivers, I mean it, and maybe 2 snow peas! Wait, let me get to how stingy they are on the protein like chicken! Maybe at best, you will get 4 cubes of chicken! For $10.45 you will get A LOT OF RICE or NOODLES! Not worth it. Our office ordered take out from here today. I ordered the Penang Red Curry rice bowl. I'll give them points for actually keeping the rice and the curry separate for take-out, but that's it. The rice was ok. However, the curry was not curry at all. I got a bowl of red broth with a few pieces of chicken and broccoli in it. I've only been here a few times, but it never disappoints! The food is fresh, tasty, and healthy, about $12 for a bowl of rice, curry sauce, and chicken. I usually add on the roti for a few more dollars for a treat. I like how you can pick your choice of rice/noodles (pick the brown rice! So good), sauce (yellow curry - spicy but not too much), and chicken (or tofu) - yes, that's my usual! You can pay by credit card (and they email you the receipt - handy!), and while a few minutes wait for take-out, it's a nice environment to wait it. All in all, a good choice for a quick dinner. read more

I agree with Scott B, get the roti! I love it, and am similarly addicted. I am pleased with the change they made in their menu in the past year. They used to have a small menu of set noodle and rice bowls, but now they do a more "create your own dish" style where you pick your noodle (or rice), pick your sauce, and pick your protein. This is great because it really allows for tweaking things to be just as you like them (of course, I usually just build something similar to a mie goreng by having thick noodles, stir fry sauce, and then whatever meat I feel like - it is delicious) The owner and staff are all nice, and they are very quick in preparing the food. Sadly, the atmosphere is more suited to fast lunches and takeout than a cozy dine in feeling, so I always get my food to go. (though it is clean and bright in the restaurant, just not cozy) This place is one of my go-to's when I'm in the mood for some delicious noodles. (and roti!) read more

Great place to grab a quick bite during lunch or on my way home in the evening! Their menu allows me to create my own meal combo just the way I like it. The Manager told me that they source their ingredients locally, and their meat supplies are Hallal and of a high grade (cage free chicken, AA beef, Ocean wise prawns). Every now and then I duck in to Fresh Bowl when things have been busy and I don't have time to cook at home. It is quick, convenient and tastes good. I don't feel like I am eating crappy take out that will leave me feeling gross and heavy afterwards. The ingredients taste fresh, the flavours are great and I've always enjoyed my meals that I've either eaten there or taken home for dinner. The only downside is the staff aren't always overly friendly but sometimes I get the man that I assume is the owner, and he is very friendly and enthusiastic about the service they provide so that makes up for it! read more

I ordered the Singapore laksa and Penang red curry for takeout. Fresh Bowl has definitely gone down hill. They gave me lots of veggies and noodles but barely any soup. They measure everything when you pick up. I've had the laksa before and remember liking it. It's definitely not good anymore...lacking flavour. The Penang curry was the worse meal I have ever eaten. It wasn't even curry..I was more like a soup. Again, a lot of rice was given but barely any "curry". I would not recommend fresh bowl. Over priced for horrible food. For the price, this place rocks! The food is fresh and delicious. A LOT healthier than most as they keep the veggies crisp and the broths not too creamy. I don't eat wheat but wanted a noodle bowl, so they substituted rice noodles for my order. I also really appreciate the eco-friendly decisions they make, like accommodating your own take out containers and using the compostable containers too. I eat here at least once a week. read more

Absolutely delicious...beef rendang was tender and succulent (obviously a very good cut of beef). Mee goreng was perfect - perfectly chewy with a great rich and flavorful sauce. I am a meat lover but I actually prefered my wife's tofu version. Lots of fresh veges. The sago dessert was fantastic, sweet and flavorful with a coconut like molasses flavor. My son had the laksa and it was creamy and delicious (we like to sample each other's food!). I have to confess that while I love Asian food, I find it usually oily and unhealthy and pay the price later (if you know what I mean). Finally, a great Asian restaurant that is actually healthy! No issues at all after eating this I went back again the next day! Judging form the reviews it is clear that there are lots of cheap asian eats in vancouver (visiting from New York) but for me, eating well and healthy is more important. So I'll rather not be penny wise and pound foolish so I don't have to get msg poisoning or eat hormone fed meat. Bottom line I have rarely eaten food of this quality much less in a fast food restaurant! As a businessman from New York I have eaten at some of the top restaurants anywhere.
