Ordered the roti Canai and coconut rice in the store for takeout and ate it right in the parking lot because I couldn't wait. The roti was undercooked. If you are craving for an authentic Malaysian food this is the place to be. I always get spicy sales fish fried rice and char kway teow. They both hit all the right spots! Portion is big for the price you pay. It's a family business, wife cooks, husband and son do the rest. Mek's Delight was recommended by a friend when we llwere discussing about Halal restaurant for South East Asian food. Interior was simple & clean, there's only 5 tables in the restaurant, so come early or call them first. Parking was plentiful at the back of the restaurant. The place is run by a husband & wife team, wife is from Kelantan, Malaysia & hubby is from Thailand. Hence the combination of Malaysian & Thai food. Very friendly & attentive service despite a 2 person team. We ordered fried rice with fried chicken, Nasi Lemak (coconut rice), Chicken Briyani, Mee Goreng, & Rendang. The flavour of the dishes was spot on, the fried chicken was extremely tasty, the flavour went right into the meat with a crispy skin. Who doesn't like crispy chicken skin? The Chicken Briyani was good, even better with the small bowl of curry that comes with the Briyani rice. Mee Goreng was authentically yummy! I am going to order that the next time. The coconut rice (Nasi Lemak), the rice was so fragrant, it is cooked with lemongrass which gives off a very lovely smell beside the taste. The beef Rendang was expensive but so... worth it, you can taste that it is made from scratch.. the beef was so tender that it melts in your mouth, we ordered a side of rice to go with it... such a marriage made in your mouth. This is the first malaysian restaurant that i have given a 5 star in canada, but Mek's delight deserves it all. With just two people working, you have to be very patient if you come here. But i can confirm that it is worth every second to wait for the food to come. Although the bandung and the teh tarik was good, the food was superb. This is the best laksa soup i have tried in Canada. The ingredients are okay but the soup was just amazing totally should come to get the laksa. The nasi lemak has the best balacan in Canada. The very good chicken but not as good as nancy go yaya's chicken which just recently closed, so this is definitely the best now. Dont miss the balacan though. Mom and pop style shop with Mom and Pop style food.  Straight up awsome home made comfort food that I'm familiar with. Food: Fried chicken and rice 2 ways. Crispy flavorful chicken fluffy rice. Thai papaya salad with sweet, sour, savory with a backend bite from fresh garlic mixed in.  Large Tom kha with chicken enough for 8 adults. 3 orders of Rotti because it was that good. Dough slightly crispy on the outside and chewy with a curry dipping sauce. Last but not least a noodle dish  similar to chow main with a Malaysian flair. We went here because of their reviews. When we walked in, we were the only people there. We ordered: Laksa 3.5/5 - it tasted good but wasn't that flavorful. It had too much veggies in it tooo. I had better laksa before that's why its was hard to compare it. Beef rendang 4/5 - the bf loved it. I thought it was okay.. this dish is usually not my favorite. But the meat was very soft! I was here yesterday for a lunch with my sister, and dining here was the best decision ever. Thanks Yelp for finding this hidden gem of Guildford. So first we ordered Chicken Satay ($7), Tom Yum soup(with chicken $9.5), Mee Mamak (with beef $10.25) and Teh Tarik ($2.95) , and service was bit slow at first because there was only wife and hubby together (I think they were Malaysians). We even saw some dishes and waste that wasn't finished cleaning. I was very much blown away from Tom Yum soup at the beginning and it really felt like eating home cooked Thai food. It wasn't like fake ones from the food court. Chicken Satay was fresh. I loved the nutty and sweet flavour of chicken satay. Mee Mamak was good too, however the chicken in the noodle was quite dry and rubbery. Everything else about the dish was great. Teh Tarik was really good. It tasted like home made milk tea that was sweet and milky. Good thing ,I didn't order along with Thai Iced Tea as the two drinks would taste similar. I highly recommend this place for those who likes Thai\ Malay cuisine. I personally think MD is better than Tropika and Banana Leaf. Hands down the best restaurant serving Malaysian food in Vancouver so far. The location is a bit far if you are not anywhere near Surrey (this is near Guildford area), but after my first bite of the mee goreng, I decided I will make the trek out in future. It is so worth the trip. We ordered the tom yum soup with prawns (very similar to what you get to Thailand or in the Singapore/Malaysia region), mee goreng (it is so good!), lamb nasi briyani (equally tasty) and kampung fried rice with chicken (very yummy). We also ordered sambal which cost $1, and it was super spicy. All the dishes were delicious and would not be out of place at any coffee shop in Singapore. The taste was that authentic. Service was a bit slow as they were understaffed but they were very friendly and warm. Do not go in a big group as the space is limited. Probably could seat 16 customers or so. I will want to go back again to try the crispy fried chicken and the three tastes fish which is also highly recommended. read more

Takeout galore!! Unless it's a white linen napkin/sit down/ by the beach meals, I prefer takeout or delivery for most casual food. Mainly because I can't eat much and 80% being left over. And also, it saves so much time! You get tot try more food! Got a pre flight take out from a nearby Malaysian spot yesterday. And saw this spot on my way there. Naturally I had to order something even if it's for a bite. Parking is much harder here but if you park by the streets before, you should be fine. I got their Mee goreng and Roti canai dish. The noods were amazing!! I wasn't expecting it to be this good but they were mind blowing good. Even the chicken in the noodle was good! Too bad I couldn't eat it all! The Roti canai was a ok. Fluffy, flaky and full of butter. I'm not a fan of butter but if you are, you'd like it. Still coming back for the noodles! So delicious! Pricier than the other Malaysian spot next door. I came here on a hot day (when we were having the heat wave), hoping for some good food and AC. First of all, the customers were all sweating but the restaurant was hot and stuffy with only the door open. Second of all, we noticed by each of the table, there was a note saying "water $1 each." There were three groups and no one was served water on that hot day. One of the customers asked for water to which the person responded and got them water. He asked us after and when we asked him, "is water $1 each?" he scoffed and said loudly "why would you pay for water?" I found this pretty rude and sort of humiliating. I figured afterwards they probably meant bottled water but when you aren't served water until way after your food comes and there's a sign that says $1 water, it's pretty misleading. Now, on to the real review. Food. We got tofu goreng. It was pretty sweet and not bad. Nice to try a bite or two but I don't think I would order again. We also got lamb curry. The meat was pretty hard to chew. Curry itself was okay and my boyfriend really liked it. However, as you can see from the photos, it looks pretty lacking. Not really worth $13. Tom yam fried rice on the other hand was really delicious. It was spicy and very well cooked. Would be something I would order again. We also got Thai iced tea. Despite the entire restaurant staff being down with the flu, leaving the one owner lady to wait tables, cook, clean, and cashier simultaneously all by herself, my experience at Mek's Delight was an astoundingly positive and tasty one. Almost everything on the well-photographed little menu looked delicious, but I decided to focus this visit on some mainstays: the roti canai and the laksa. The roti canai were utterly indulgent: savoury and flaky and a tiny bit chewy in all the right ways, and the curry dipping sauce was just as "awesome" as the menu claimed it was. The laksa was also very good. My first couple of bites of vegetables and noodles seemed a little weak, but as the rich chili-coconut broth soaked into everything over the next couple of minutes, that was quickly remedied. Like a good wine, it needed to "breathe" for a minute for all the flavours to blend a little. Slurping up big spicy spoonfuls of that broth later, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to quit even though my already-full belly was telling me to stop. I can't wait to go back to try other things. Things to know: - There's no street parking, but there's a free parking lot in the rear of the building, and you can enter through the back or walk around. - The place is very small, with only 5 four-top tables. Bring your date or your three closest friends, but leave the big groups at home. Carryout might be a good option if you're feeding more than four. - Everything is made to order and may take a little bit especially if several people arrived at once. That's the price to pay for a fresh family-made meal. - They have some Thai dishes on the menu, but I'd agree with other reviewers' suggestion to stick to the Malaysian dishes, especially on a first visit. Came here as I read the good reviews, the place is small 6-7 tables. Clean place, ordered our food right away, and came before 20-30 minutes. Don't expect the service will be top, but ohh well it's cold and snowing heavy outside so might as well enjoy the food! We had the tom yum soup with coconut, fried fish pampamno with sauce and salted fried rice. All of them were all good, the dish fish pampano's sauce is already salty so make sure you order just the plain rice with it. One word : Teleportation. This restaurant serves bona fide Malaysian Thai cuisine without actually having to take a 20 hour flight to South East Asia. As a Singaporean here in Canada, Mek's Delights is indeed a delight. I had a couple of dishes here with my family and a friend. Roti Canai, Satay, Tom Yum, Mamak Mee Goreng. My stepdad had the lamb curry and it was superb. Oh, don't forget to try the popiah goreng, not sure what you guys call it here. The place is small yet cosy. Homely is the word I'm looking for. We came here with our friend who highly recommended the beef rendang. When we got there, we were informed that they were out of rendang. :( Then we decided to try the sambal squid.. but sadly, that was also not available! So, we ordered satay, which was not bad. However, they gave a very small amount of satay sauce to go with our double order so we asked for more but when it came, he gave us a big bowl and the sauce only filled the bottom 1/4 of the bowl. The chicken curry was very watery. The taste was just ok. They killed the mixed vegetables dish and it was also very salty. Their service was extremely slow. Every time we ordered something extra, it took forever for it to come, including the satay sauce which is something that is always ready. The place was relatively clean but very sparse in term of decor and ambience. The meal came to $60 for the 3 of us for the 3 dishes plus 3 orders of rice and an order of Roti Canai which was not the best value considering the taste. I have a love-hate relationship with this place. I LOOOOVE their food but their service isn't the best. It's a small restaurant run by a couple, the husband is the server and his wife is the cook, and they aren't the friendliest people out there. However, their food is SOOOO good in my opinion. We've tried almost everything on their menu, and so far none of them disappoints except for their Beef Rendang, which is not on par with their other dishes. Their Spicy Chicken is out of the world. It's so unique and flavorful, I've never had chicken in that way ever before. Their Fried Chicken&Fries is really good too, it's more flavorful than your normal fried chicken. I've been trying to restrain myself from coming back due to the bad service, but I can't help but crave their food. Tried Mek's as it was close by and we took takeout. We ordered the roti, spring rolls, pad thai and red chicken curry. The food was executed well, however, it was evident that the quality of the ingredients were below average. That was to be expected for the price point. What was disappointing was when it was time to pay for my takeout, my bill was incorrectly added. I didn't catch the mistake until I already paid, but the person behind the counter made it difficult for me to get my money back. I eventually left frustrated and left. I dined here on a Sunday at 7:30pm. We made reservations, but that was totally unnecessary since the restaurant was empty. Decor here is pretty minimal. There are 5 tables inside, which seats a total of 20 people. A server asked us if we wanted tea or water, so we asked for tea not knowing it isn't free. We didn't even get a refill on it either. Bummer. We ordered: - Roti Canai: 3/5. It wasn't too thick and it was pretty fluffy. Dipping was a bit oily. - Mee goreng: 4/5. You get a pretty good amount for the price. We got it with beef but you have a choice to get it with chicken or prawns too. I thought it tasted pretty good, but my sister found it to be too salty. - Laksa: 3.5/5. Comes with two types of noodles. I found this to be too heavy and not enough noodles. Three of us were struggling to finish this bowl because it got sickening really quickly. Nice how you get one whole egg though. - The server also recommended us to get this appetizer that was on special... Not sure what it's called but it's like a spring roll with potatoes, mozzarella, chicken and something else inside. 4 for $5. It tasted like chicken pot pie. Pretty good. - Thai Iced Tea: 1/5. Don't get it. It was too sweet and didn't even taste like Thai iced tea... also got charged more than what was stated in the menu. While we were seated, a lady walked in and sat at the table in front of us, facing me. She kept staring at us and laughing hysterically... it made things really uncomfortable and we wanted to get out of there ASAP. She seems like a regular since the employees were joking around with her while she was ordering. On top of this starer, the people working here were speaking incredibly loud and obnoxiously. There is no music playing in the restaurant to mask the noise either. It made our dining experience very unpleasant. The ladies here were not attentive at all. I had to walk up to them to remind them about my Thai Iced tea. I also had to walk up to ask for a togo box and the bill. I'm sure if I needed to use the debit machine, I would have had to walk up to them as well. We decided that we will not be returning as eating here is not fun. read more

I was directed there by a neighbour in my building as she said the food was really good. Looked through the menu and chose the "crispy chicken and rice" along with "beef rendang" (beef stew) to go. Upon getting it home, I opened the chicken & rice. What a disappointment. 1 small dry drumstick and some 10cm x 10cm piece of bone with less than a mouthful of meat sitting on 2 cups of rice. Not worth the price paid. The rendang was tasty. But the portion was lacking 500ml and no rice for it to go on. The total price for both was $28.65. Hardly value for the money. Real authentic malaysian cuisine the restaurant only has like 16 seats but it's totally worth the drive out to Surrey. Unlike other fusion thai restaurants the dishes are so flavourful. We ordered the Roti Canai which we thought was delicious! it was so rich and fluffy - my boyfriend is Indian so he's used to eating Indian style roti and he loved this one. We also ordered the apple chicken which was a little too spicy for my liking but again that's just my personal taste. The table shared an appetizer tray of Satay Skewers - LOVE!!!! Mediocre experience. Cheap, tolerable food, but the wait for food was considerably long, with entrees and appetizers arriving in a random order. The service was what ultimately tipped the scale, as we were not greeted or acknowledged upon entering, and I had to ask the only woman in the dining room whether she worked there - she did. Neither one of the couple said much to direct or inform the customers. The man served the coconut and steamed rice without distinguishing them. I even watched him curtly command other customers to relocate, with not as much as a single please or thank you, to make room for a larger party. The food is good. It's authentic tasting as far as Malaysian cuisine goes, and the portion sizes are fair (not too much, not too little). I will however say that the location is not great, nor is the cleanliness of the restaurant. The last time I visited I noticed how dirty the walls of the place were, and how there were so many flies around while I ate. The tables weren't particularly well cleaned either, which makes me doubt whether or not the cutlery was even clean. I've been here several times and was a pretty frequent customer at one point. If it was more cleanly I think I'd enjoy my dining experience more and would be more likely to return. read more

Went there looking for something super flavourful- and was not disappointed. It's not super cheap and the portions aren't huge- but the quality is what matters. They have excellent quality of food. Very filling for what we did order. We'll be back. Came here on the day we just arrived in Canada from our fifteen hour drive from the Bay Area so we were looking for a really good restaurant to hit the spot. Parking is around back and the neighborhood looks really safe as it is an industrial/residential area. I ordered the Crispy chicken, fried rice, and chicken satay. While the chicken satay was small in portion, it was really good! Brought everything to go because we wanted to eat it at the place we were staying as we were really tired. The wife and husband was really sweet and nice and the environment of the restaurant was really cozy albeit small. It took about 15 or 20 minutes for them to make it and as we were waiting we went around to the kpop karaoke bar around the corner. The rice was really good and the chicken was made just right! I'd definitely come and visit here again when I come back to Canada. I'd recommend staying here and eating in because it is made super fresh! We have a tofu dish called Tahu Goreng, Lamb Curry, Sauteed Vegetable, and Three Spices Fish. Highly recommend the fish, it's so spicy! Hahaha this place is a joke. The first review on here is so obviously written by the owner what a joke. The service was unusually and exemplary in being slow and rude and obnoxious. The food was overpriced slow and cold. Very small portions for a high amount of money. I would never recommend this place and I definitely would never come here again. Did I mention that this place is really expensive with cold lousy food? The owner told my pregnant wife that she wasn't allowed to use the washroom unless we bought at least $30 worth of food.
