Finding Malaysian or Singaporean food in Burnaby is rare, so Makan Time is a welcome addition. It appears to be a Neptune Seafood Restaurant subsidiary, which is just down the hall. They've renovated the former Japanese restaurant space with softer lighting and dark wood. We tried the Singaporean Laksa noodles, which tasted very authentic and were bursting with creamy, spicy flavours. However, the Malay curry chicken portion was disappointing ... it came with two drumsticks for over $20.

This restaurant was a bit out of the way at the Amazing Brentwood. It replaces Ajishou Japanese above the Earl's on Lougheed, behind Neptune Palace Seafood. The pricing is quite high compared to other Malaysian restaurants. The satay sauce for some reason tasted minty. I advised the manager to check with the kitchen staff to see if they used mint instead of coriander. The beef curry was good, but the shrimp chips that were placed on the rice were stale and chewy. I would probably not return unless they update the food and prices.

Interior was quaint and well decorated. Outside patio was cozy and delightful in the nice weather. I ordered a ling cod and chips, wifey ordered Cajun Prawn and avocado Benny. I also ordered full bowl of clam chowder to try out. The ling cod was fried perfectly , 2pc decent portion size crispy and the meat was moist. I did wish it was seasoned as the meat itself tasted bland but fresh as fish goes. Adding a bit of salt on it before dipping in the tartar sauce helped. The chips nice and crispy, soft interior and seasoned well. The coslaw was lightly dressed, I prefer a bit more dressing but it was still ok. The chowder was creamy and full of seafood. Very tasty and I probably shouldn't have gotten a full bowl as wifey couldn't help much with sharing and I was reaching capacity with the fish and chips. The sour dough bread that came with the chowder was toasted expertly as it was crispy on the exterior and still had a nice soft chew interior which i love. Wifeys Benny i didn't try so cannot attest to its taste but she seemed to enjoy it. I did eat a couple of her home style potatoes and this were crispy and soft in the middle. Very nice. The servers were excellent and very attentive, making sure we were taken care of and checked on us appropriately. Even with how busy they were i could see how they attended to everybody very well. If around the area would definitely go back. Food was pretty good, service great and atmosphere lovely.

We ordered mild flavored and I had asked at the cashier if we could have some mango flavored sauce to try (at other similar joints, there would be bottles of sauces to try), and was told it would be a $1.50 charge. I declined. So it was a nice surprise when the other staff brought a white (think it's garlic something) sauce and a hot sauce for the wings. Then she asked if we wanted water and got us some. The place was quite busy and it took some time for the food to be ready. Saw some customers grumbling about the long wait. Think it took about 15-20 mins for our food. There was lots of orders for delivery. The place was half packed with dine in customers. My friend had the quarter chicken with grilled vegetables and they were good. I had the chicken and rice bowl. I also added pineapple to it. I was expecting grilled pineapple rings but the pineapple was chopped up and mixed into the rice bowl so I could barely see it or taste it. Not recommended to add pineapple. But the chicken rice bowl was delicious! We had the wings to share and they were yummy too. This place also sells cheesecake slices from Cheesecake Factory. It is $10.45 after tax for a slice. I think that's pretty close to what it costs down in the US after currency conversion. So if you love the cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory, you don't have to cross the border. This place closes late, around midnight on weekend, so it's great for late night food. As I had not seen my friend in a while, we stayed for quite a while catching up and did not feel like we had to vacate the table immediately after finishing our food. I would come here again for the food and if I get hungry late at night. Side and street parking are available.

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.

They offered to split our lobster bisque so we could each have our own. We've also tried their tableside salad and desserts before and enjoyed the shows. My toddler wanted to get a closer look. The ambience is moody with high ceilings, low lighting, and plush seats. There is a constant buzz of conversations around us to provide a bit of intimacy and privacy to our conversations, while also allowing our toddler to be just a bit rowdy without feeling like we are disturbing the other guests. Of the food, I love the mushroom side with the truffle fondue. I wanted to dip everything in it as it was so flavourful and delicious. Complimentary bread with butter and blue cheese butter were offered to start. The brussel sprouts side was also unique with the added pistachios and a crisp for some crunch. The hearty mussels and clams starter were great for a rainy evening. Portion was enough as a meal by itself, too! There is a covered parking lot for those driving. Our waitress Marina was fantastic. Our dinner consisted of Pan Seared Sea Scallops, Halibut & Lobster Risotto & the Tomahawk Pork Chop. Everything tasted splendid & knocked it out of the ball park. Menu is not extensive and as it was both our visits, we decided to order the Kkanpunggi Combo for $56 that includes Black Bean Noodle, Chili Seafood Noodle, and Spicy Sweet and Sour Deep Fried Chicken. The chicken arrived first and it was an enormous portion! Chicken was fresh, lightly battered, had good flavour that wasn't overly coated in sauce, and was served with nice tasty taro chips. Black bean noodles was also a good sized and delicious. The chili seafood noodles was also a very generous portion - we ordered it medium spicy but I personally thought it was mild though flavourful. Service was a bit slow, even though we pressed the button a few times. However, tasty food with big portions and reasonable prices is hard to beat these days! $56 for 3 dishes and more than enough leftovers, would definitely return and recommend.
