    Seafood laksa

The authentic seafood laksa was excellent. Very crispy chicken wings. Seafood chow fun was good. Excellent price range. Will come again to try other Chinese & Indonesian dishes.

The chicken in the chicken rice is a boneless drumstick and tastes pretty bland. The rice is bland and dry as well. They do have the signature chilli sauce that comes with Hainanese chicken rice so it isn't all bad. Also, I have a habit of wiping down my utensils and plates in restaurants and the tissue shows what was wiped off from the chopsticks. This would be ranked 3rd from the list of chicken rice I've had from my Vancouver trip.

Never misses a beat! This place has the best Malaysian food in Vancouver. Try it's authentic Penang Prawn Mee noodle soup or the Beef Nasi Lemak. It's a place not to be missed for great Malaysian food. Note that this used to be a Penang Bistro but it is now no longer part of that franchise and they are stepping out on their own. I'm just glad that they survived the Covid lockdowns! Come early as they have limited seating and are doing lots of take-outs.

Looks like Penang Delight has died and reincarnated into another Malaysian restaurant. Parking is available on Rupert, as well as the side streets. The interior looks pretty much unchanged from Penang, other than the pictures on the wall. Cozy and somewhat modern. Staff were friendly. Looks like a mom and pop operation, though I think the chef is hired from outside. Not sure if the menus have been updated per se, but the covers still said Penang (embossed) on them. Sambal kang kong - spinach in wet sauce. Served with roasted garlic and cooked onions. Not bad. Rendang beef - one of the better ones out there. Meat wasn't dry. Decent portion. Served with cilantro. Probably my favourite dish of the bunch. Special mention. KL Hokkian mee - looked suspiciously like Shanghai style noodles based on noodle type and sauce colour. This place used seafood chunks instead of beef. I thought it tasted a bit weird, but this is probably because I was subconsciously expecting the Shanghai stuff. The dish itself wasn't bad. Cantonese chow fun (stir fried noodles) - definitely a Malaysian version of what I was expecting. This thing was drowning in sauce. The noodles aren't the (authentic Cantonese) crispy yellow type, but more like deep fried "square blocks" of vermicelli that are softened by the sauce. Almost felt like I was eating a sponge. Interesting. Kuih dadar (pandam crepe with coconut) - nice and green. Filled with shredded coconut, and served with some kind of syrup. I'm not sure what this thing is supposed to taste like, so I can't really comment. The lady also offered us some house sambal sauce and marinated jalapenos. I can definitely recommend the sambal sauce for those who like spicy. My Malaysian buddy said everything tasted quite authentic (especially the sambal sauce), other than the marinated jalapenos. I can't comment on this part. Not a bad place to check out if looking for authentic Malaysian.

    Kanai roti

Previously Penang now Kopitiam, another place that offers really good Malaysian food. I got the kanai roti which very very good,I called it Asian pancake, when its still hot and with the dipping sauce it just melts in your mouth. My appez includes deep fried squid, this one is very ordinary, very commercial bit presentation is so instagrammable. For my entree I ordered the nasi lemak rendang beef.. excellent cuisine, satisfied taste buds no single complaints. Service crew is very friendly, kinda busy place, and I can see that so many pick up order aswell. Malaysian inspired interior design, very clean place. Free street parking and can be hard sometimes. I used to visit this place.. the former Pendang. Noise level is average, kids friendly,on non-covid era this good for family and group. Accept cash:debit and credit. 100% I will visit again.

Ordered from Uber eats and it took them one hour to make the order and another hour for the Uber driver to drop it off. The food is ok. Disappointed in how long the order took. Nothing outstanding and portions are pretty small. The food didn't fill the container.

Best rendang beef in town! Tender, melt-in-your mouth chunks of beef, slathered in a rich, flavourful curry. Love the side of crispy anchovies, as well! Their chicken laksa is amazing, as well. Love that there are two types of noodles in the bowl- vermicelli and egg noodles. Their chicken is sliced Hainananese style chicken so it's juicy and delicious. I would love to come back to try their Hainanese chicken with rice!

The food here was pretty good. The steamed Hainanese Chicken and the Deluxe Curry Platter (with curry chicken, rendang beef and rendang lamb) and coconut rice were tasty and enough for 2 people.

Got lots of choices of malaysian food to choose from so i really respect that since not many malaysian restaurants actually serves many choices. The laksa i think its really best in town compared to other laksa of other malaysian restaurants in vancouver. Got even cendol and es kacang damnn. The nasi lemak was good too not the best was very good. Cheers! This is recommended from me!

I had a reciept inside my water.... Unbelieveable!!!!

I had a reciept inside my water.... Unbelieveable!!!! When i told the lady about it she was like "oh ok" and just bring the water away. Is this the reason why they change their name from Pendang to Kopitiam? They charge me for the paper bag for togo order without asking me if i need a bag, also charge me for a togo box with out telling me there is a charge for it.

So on a chilly night what does a person do other than to fight chilly with Chilis .. it has been quite a while since we've been here after the name change and so we headed out on this frigid night.. between two of us we order the Roti, beef sate, their signature Hainanese Chicken plus Char Kway.. service was more focused on take out than the two tables that were present .. the portions were reasonable the pricing was okay as well but for anyone that knows me, it's the overall ambiance and the service.. since the change over from corporate Penang Malaysian to its current name, the service to me wasn't as it was in the past.. mind you there was only one server having to take care of the seating to the ordering and to the serving.. when the owner showed up she more than made up for not being served tea in the first 15 minutes.. when the appetizers appeared..they looked appetizing then the two main dishes showed up right afterwards.. all in all a nice cosy community hideaway

Vegetable curry laksa (made vegan by having all rice noodles)
    Matt B.

I ordered their vegetable curry laksa ($12 plus tax, minus 10% discount) for lunch during the week, which they affirmed can be made vegan by having all rice noodles. My order was ready within 10 minutes. You get a generous portion of noodles and tofu, with a bit of lettuce, but absolutely no vegetables other than that, except a bit of bean sprouts mixed in. The broth was pretty solid, though very oily, even for laksa. The tofu had a nice texture. The lack of vegetables was the biggest disappointment with this laksa, as almost every other place locally that does a vegetable laksa will pack in a bunch of different veggies to the soup -- the few measly strands of lettuce here were pretty lame. Overall, not bad, but there are a lot of better places to get vegan/vegetarian laksa locally.

Rotten chicken (Rendang Chicken) smelled like rotten flesh! Made us sick.

We were able to grab a table for 2 around 8pm, which is great given how busy this place usually is. We ordered the following: Chicken Skewers: Decently grilled with a the meat juicy and tender meat. The nice peanut sauce hit the spot! Seafood laksa: Full of deep rich flavours, this also really hit the spot especially on a cold and rainy night. The mix noodles had a nice chew and there were lots of tofu, seafood, and a full boiled egg (cut in half). Definitely a solid bowl of laksa! Fried Noodles: A great comfort dish. The noodles were springy and well-seasoned, with plenty of toppings mixed in. Not greasy, which I really appreciated, and the portion was generous. Roti: Comes with a thin curry sauce and served with sugar on the side. The roti is super buttery, soft, and flakey. One of the best roti's in the city! The curry sauce is too thin for my liking but decent flavours. Overall, the service is prompt but no frills. The food speaks for itself and is tasty at good portions at decent prices.

Their CHAR KOAY TEOW is good too - it is chewy and not greasy. It's my first time trying the BBQ ribs. The meat is tender and so well seasoned. I'll order the dish again. Service and cleanliness is normal. I like that they let us have hot tea instead of water for free. The parking lot at the back alley has quite a lot of spots so it is easy to find a spot. I am excited they're opening in Burnaby soon. Hopefully the food quality in the new location would be as good as the one in Richmond.
