I really don't understand why this restaurant is called "Fresh Rolls" when they actually don't make FRESH spring rolls. Even when I ask for fresh ones, they point me to the ones that have been sitting out. I don't think they understand that spring rolls that are left out (even when refrigerated) hardens. The wrapper and vermicelli noodles hardens, the herbs and veggies spoils faster, and the meat (including shrimp) looses it taste. The meat becomes more chewy and honestly, its often overcooked here. This goes the same with their "noodle bowl" as well that they have sitting out all day. Also, the Thai tea is always bland. If they truly want to achieve the concept of "FRESH", this place should definitely revamp what they got going on. Their location and the restaurant interior is actually nice but customers should come in and watch their spring rolls or whatever dish be made in front of them (e.g., watching someone make your sandwich in front of you and asking what items you want in your sandwich). They need to stay true to what they are "representing". Hopefully this place comes to terms on what they should be serving to their customers. Best of luck! read more

Clean, attractive restaurant. Fresh ingredients. Friendly staff. We had vegan pho and it was excellent.

I'm sorry to say of all the places ive tried pho and Bahn mi in Tacoma this was probably the worst. The bread was about the only thing that was good. we ordered food to go. I ordered 2 Bahn Mis, beef pho and and beef rice bowl. the Bahn Mis we're not filled much so there was a ton of bread for a little filling. need to use more filling or smaller rolls. second the rice was all dried out and stuck together like it was made the day before and left out. lastly the pho was supposed to be beef and they gave us tofu... try getting kids to eat tofu... I did at least get them to try it. but they put a lot of pepper in it along with the jalapeños which made it pretty spicy, and the broth itself had no flavor, I have gotten better broth from a box at the grocery store. So I'm sorry to say we most likely won't be back given all the choices in Tacoma. read more

I ordered 2 orders of spring roll and they forgot to include the peanut sauce on both orders. Spring roll was too dry and bland to finish. The business seemed disoriented and under staffed for a lunch rush. read more

Used UberEats- Ordered two chicken eggrolls/ $2.24 Got one 1----hard tiny "eggroll" and it certainly was not chicken. dipping sauce was good but obvi just the stuff that is bottled. "Eggroll" was old and petrified. Wonton soup with added veggies. No soy sauce! umm whattttt? Broth pretty flavorless. about 5 good sized wontons filled well-but no seasoning. read more

So clean and good customer service. Would've given 5 stars but they were out of banh mi. Which is understandable since its Saturday and downtown Tacoma is pretty quiet. Replaced it with wonton soup instead. Amazing ! They did not go cheap on the filling of pork and shrimp. Wish I lived closer to here read more

Fresh Rolls - Wonton soup only $4.99. Crazy !!! - Vietnamese Near Me - Tacoma, Washington

First off when you walk In It is very spacious and clean. The owners and staff greeted us as soon as we walked in the door. Their menu is easy to navigate. I got the tofu noodle salad and it was delicious. Everything tastes very fresh. I also got a passion fruit ices tea that was excellent as well. I will definitely be back over and over again. read more

One of my favorite foods is a fresh spring roll with tofu. They should be bursting out the ends with fresh veggies and have thinly sliced tofu nestled among the rice noodles, carrots and cilantro. I was very excited to try Fresh Rolls. I walked in at 11:30 and it was extremely clean, well lit, and the waiter was very helpful. And that was good because I needed the extra help. As I was looking in their display case I literally did not recognize the fresh rolls with tofu and after he pointed them out I thought he had made a mistake and I picked up the package and said again, "These???" When he confirmed that was what I was looking for I wanted to put them back and just leave but I was the only customer and felt awkward. They are basically just a huge slab of tofu with a piece of lettuce and a little bit of carrot. There is also only peanut sauce to dip which is not my favorite. They taste about how they look. (Pics included) I would return and try something else based on the cleanliness and polite staff. But if you're looking for veggie spring rolls there are a lot of better choices. read more

We ordered bahn mi for the family (chicken and tofu sandwiches). Kids loved their sandwiches.. We wished to have a little more spice added to them especially when we asked for more. Other than this, great place and we hope to visit again. read more

This is my go-to lunch place on the days I work in Tacoma. The staff is super friendly and attentive! My staple is the yummy meatball pho (not on the menu) and BBQ pork rolls, I take to go. The prices are very reasonable for the portions and quality you receive. Service is fast and efficient, which is very appreciated on a time crunched lunch hour! read more

I really want to like this place. It has a good location and great menu. I love Vietnamese food and based on the food Ive had here they do it well. The restaurant is generally clean but definitely could be much better. Biggest complainant is the service. Workers are friendly but they are very slow. I called 20 mins ahead and waited another 20 mins after I got to the store for a very basic order. I could also see at least four other groups ahead of me, waiting. I witnessed another patron visibly upset that he'd been waiting for so long, one worker had to deal with the complaint which further delayed everyone else's order. While I waited I watched a family wait at the register to order for five minutes then finally leave after they were basically ignored. If you're going to charge a premium for a product then you should provide service equal to the expense. Again, I want to give a good review but given my past few experiences I can't in good faith recommend, based on the service alone. read more

I come here on rainy days for lunch during the weekday. Fast, good price & tasty. There's not much seating, but I seem to luck up on finding a seat most days. The seating area is clean and has a few seats next to the window. They play great music and the staff is friendly. I like that the staff brings your soup to your table. There's no trash cans, so you leave your bowl & trash at the table. The pho options are simple: beef, chicken or Shrimp. I usually get beef. They don't accept requests to cook the meat to your liking (rare, medium etc) but it's 6 bucks, so it's a small inconvenience for the portion and the quality of the food. I took my food to go this time & i've been able to reuse the bowl the pho was served. I wish they would pack the veggies separately from the soup. I prefer the added texture of crisp veggies. The Vietnamese style shrimp rolls and fried egg rolls are good as well. They've added garlic honey wings to the menu, looking fwd to trying those! read more

I've been going to Fresh Rolls since their original location opened in University Place and this place never disappoints. The spring rolls are made fresh every day and it is consistently. They are very busy, but it's definitely worth the wait and I highly recommend giving it a try whenever you are in the DT area. read more

The Bahn Mi sandwiches are great, served on a crusty roll. I did find the spicy pork, too spicy for me. The salmon Bahn Mi was so-so. The salmon was sort of smoked, parts were crunchy. My daughter loved the tofu pho. One concern is that it took them eight days to process our payment through the bank. This was our first time at this location. read more

It would be easy to walk past this unassuming little place, especially considering that it can be a little dead outside of the lunch rush. But do yourself a favor and stop in. When you do, you'll be greeted by a menu of reasonably-priced tasty dishes. The name isn't a misnomer; everything here tastes very fresh, from the crunchy pickled veggies in the bahn mi to the cilantro and lemongrass which adorn several items. The menu is elegantly simple with listed vegetarian options for every entree. The rolls: Always expertly wrapped to maintain their integrity even when handled aggressively. They're packed tight with ingredients and are surprisingly satisfying. An order of these could make a light lunch. The pho: FR's version is light and very low on salt. It's not the most authentic rendition you're going to find but having a healthier option is nice. The sandwiches: The sleeper hit of this menu. These are much bigger than I was expecting for $4.99. No hot peppers but it's loaded with delicious, slightly-sweet pickled carrots and daikon radish. Like the spring rolls, these hold their integrity due to the quality baguette. I have yet to try FR's bubble tea but I'm looking forward to giving it a shot this summer. read more

I come here at least twice a week on my lunch break. The Pho is the best in Tacoma, and the prices are super reasonable. Just can't believe it took me over a year to write a review. Super fast service too and the family that runs it is super nice. Keep up the great work! read more

After recently moving to UP and driving by every day I figured I would give it a shot. I was underwhelmed to say the least. It is overpriced, for a normal quick Vietnamese lunch. The places I normally frequent only charge $3 for a large bahn mi sandwich and this place sells them for over $5 and the quality is not "fresh." Also beware, their beef pho only has one kind of "mystery meat" that is pre-cooked added to it. I asked what type of beef it was and she said it was cooked...enough said. However the broth was decent and overall the flavors, although mostly bland, did in fact resemble what I was looking forward to having for our lunch today. Spending over $20 for just my 3 year old and I, it doesn't look like we will be returning. In conclusion, skip this place and go somewhere a little more "fresh" and authentic. read more

Fresh Rolls - Some of the ready made items. We didn't get this, but would be great on a downtown tacoma lunch hour! - Vietnamese Near Me - Tacoma, Washington

Ordered the bbq chicken Vietnamese sandwich & tofu spring rolls. The sandwich had no greens in it (usually with cilantro, cucumbers, etc), was literally just chicken and some carrots inside. Made for a really dry taste. The spring rolls were decent. read more

I was excited to see a Vietnamese restaurant in downtown. This area clearly lacks a solid go to Vietnamese place for pho, spring rolls, fresh rolls, etc. I hoped Fresh Rolls would fit that niche. The space itself is rather large. It is set up more for take out with convenient pre-made salads and sandwiches. They definitely cater to the local lunch crowd. I, however, ended up ordering and eating there. The service was pleasant and prompt. I decided on the pork eggrolls and chicken eggrolls to start. There's a large batch already prepared in warming trays ready to go. They were very inexpensive for the generous portion you receive. It was cooked well and tasted pretty good. It didn't knock my socks off, but overall had a good crisp taste to it. Our table ordered pho and a chicken noodle salad. Overall pretty good taste with classic Asian flavors of sesame, ginger, and garlic. Portion was pretty good. The pho was super-cheap, but I understood why after looking at the portion size. It came in a plastic bowl that reminded me of a microwave style dish you would heat up at home. The broth, which is key in any pho, was actually good. I was expecting the classic pho style of putting in my own sprouts and basil, but I was disappointed. I wouldn't order pho again. A lot of people rave about the Ginger Tea. We had it on ice and it was quite frankly way over-powering with ginger to the point of bitterness. Maybe they had a strong batch when I tried, but it wasn't worth the $4+. One little pet peeve I had was that I ordered water and they charged 25 cents. Why even bother? Water just seems like it should be the cost of business. Overall, go to this place for take-out or a quick snack. It would be great for lunch but I wouldn't recommend for a dinner experience. read more

Ordered through Grubhub for a family I don't live with. It took me a month to talk the family into allowing me to buy them dinner. They have multiple stressors now, a visiting relative, and young children. I ordered hours in advance and provided the family's phone number for any problems. The food never arrived and the family had planned for this dinner. See above under "stressed". So they had to scramble last minute to throw something together. I was never notified either. I got a message on GH that the entire order was canceled due to the restaurant "being out of a menu item." Never again. read more

They have a perfect place to get a snack on the end of an avenue that already makes some great food. Theres the lil veggie spring rolls and then they have the works on a sandwhich if you want. If you can get anything on the menu i would start here for lunch then go to the Forum or the matador for dinner. Life is good that way read more

So yummy! I love this place, very quick as they have the fresh rolls and noodle salads pre-made in the fridge by the register. Delicious noodle salad! I love the tofu one. The spring rolls are always very good only problem is they are rolled loosely and often the noodles fall out of the end for me. Otherwise really yummy! read more

Fresh Rolls - Vietnamese Near Me - Tacoma, Washington

I had the shrimp mango salad. I would give it a 4/5; pretty good but not great, the shrimp was good but overall it just lacked flavor. I gave this restaurant 3 stars because the service was definitely lacking. The server looked so un-enthused about being at work I felt bad for him. His unwillingness to hold up a conversation really sucked the happiness out of my day. I even asked how he was doing and he just replied "ok" and told me my total. I'm not asking for a lot, just a smile and a tiny attempt to be polite would be nice. Definitely deters me from going back even though the food was decent. read more

Ordered beef pho and shrimp fresh rolls via Uber Eats. Pho was disappointing. No bean sprouts, jalapeños, basil to accommodate the soup, just a couple sprigs of cilantro in the soup. Fortunately I had some crushed chili paste at the office. It was "ok". The "fresh rolls" were 2 days old (it was date stamped on the box). I couldn't eat them at all. The shrimp was so rancid it stunk up the office. Completely inedible. Not so fresh at "Fresh" Roll. read more

Looks can be deceiving, came here for a mango salad, there's a lot of filler like lettuce on the bottom, and the soy sauce that came with it is watered down... shouldn't it have been spicy fish sauce... won't be coming back, now I know... This is a good diet salad, if that's what's you're looking for. Update: after eating a bit more, there's actually a lot of mango, it fits the resturant name 'fresh' but had I not grabbed extra sauce... it would have been bad.... bumping this up to 2 1/2 stars. read more

Bahn mi sandwiches are good, iced coffee has too much ice and it's a little overpriced.

There was nothing "fresh" about the "food" here. The spring rolls are petrified. I also tried to eat a tofu noodle salad. It was just an inseparable clump of old noodles and old fried tofu, no seasoning. There is NOTHING fresh nor Vietnamese about this slop. read more

I have been here quite often during weekday. This place meet my expectation. I often have Lemongrass beef ricebowl and Hibiscus tea for lunch which is about $15. The food was so tasteless. I was so displeased I paid $18 for a salad and two orders of shrimp spring rolls. The peanut sauce was not good. And that is my favorite thing about spring rolls is the sauce. I would not spend $5 in this place. Maybe I was there on a bad day but my food was so basic and all the reviews were descent so I figured my food would be fine, but it was not. You have to pay for parking, its located on a busy corner. I was underwhelmed with this place. I really wanted to like it since I just live a few blocks away and was excited to hear they made pho, but I don't think I will ever be coming back here. First off, this is the only restaurant I have ever been to that actually charges for water. After spending $20+ on lunch here I don't think it is unfair to expect a glass of water to go with my meal. It just gives off a very cheap feeling. Second, this place is very quick to say that their food is "fresh", one look at the menu and you will see labels like "Fresh pho" "Fresh Smoothies" and "Fresh Rolls" --ok, I just don't think the owners of this place know what "fresh" means. "Fresh" isn't pre making a bunch of tiny spring rolls and salads and letting them sit inside a fridge all day. Third, the pho my boyfriend and I had here was probably the worst we've ever had. It seemed like it was just rice noodles with two strips of beef sitting in hot water and served in a plastic bowl. Lacking any kind of real flavor that is present in normal pho. This place is a major disappointment to the downtown community. I had high hopes, but we won't be coming back. read more

Was excited to try this place out. The rolls were decent but feel it was a bit over priced. They also do not have the grilled pork spring rolls. There was a piece of garlic in my avocado smoothie and the tapioca balls were hard. read more

I only gave it 3 stars because it didn't meet my expectations. This place is is very spacious and clean. I stopped by because it's fairly close to UW Tacoma. I was hoping this place offered somewhat traditional banh mi. I should've known since they call it "vietnamese sandwich." I was only able to try the BBQ pork sandwich, it was decent. However, it is far from traditional. You have the option to have the sandwich toasted and/or spicy. There were a lot of different flavors that you don't normally taste in a banh mi; it was very peppery and sweet (I think it was sweet chili sauce). Worth a try though. If I ever have the chance to go again, I would try something else, probably their teas and fresh rolls. I would recommend this for those who prefer asian flavors with a modern twist. Also there's street parking, since it's located in downtown Tacoma. Price is pretty affordable ($5 for sandwich) and they cater. They also have calories of each item on the menu, which is always a plus. read more

We were super excited for this place when we first saw their sign and were waiting for them to open. Didn't disappoint. Tons of options for vegetarians and healthy options for meat eaters too.
