I am going to be that person thats going to be very unpopular here but the reason why I decided to write this is because I felt the need to validate all the other low rating reviews because I agree with them 100%. I went here on an early morning right at opening time, I wanted to take some hot pho and spring rolls to scarf them down at home. Well, I stepped inside 10 minutes after opening and the older gentleman immediately gave me a look that my business wasnt wanted. I was the first customer that day clearly, and I felt like I shouldn't have gone in so early? Since I made a drive, I asked for a menu for to-go order and he proceeded to give me menu and go about cleaning the floor. The whole restaurant had the smell of cleaning products plus some old food stench. I asked for pho and tofu spring roll to-go and he asked me if thats it. I said yes and he said ok come back in 10-15 min so I actually had to leave restaurant (I cant remember if I decided to walk back to my car or walk across the street to Hong Kong Market to browse little bit or both because I got a bit anxious by the service I received). Food was mediocre at best. Broth was a bit salty for me, noodle was not soft, Spring Roll was fine. I will not return to this business again solely from the experience I had. I know that this place is much loved, long standing local restaurant with lots of support and I know I cant judge a place from just one visit, but once was enough for me. read more

Once we arrived, we were welcome to sit at any empty table of our choosing. The menu is massive, borderline overwhelming if you don't know what you want. I frequent Vietnamese restaurants regularly and decided to go for a rice entree this time around. I ordered the Cơm Gà Rôti (roasted half chicken with steamed rice), which was also served with a side of lettuce, pickled carrots and cucumbers. The food was good, but my chicken was cooked a little too long in some parts and appeared to be more burnt than normal. The dish was served with plenty of rice. A cold, winter night calls for some good pho. Unfortunately I left a little too late to try a different pho shop but Vien Dong is open until 9 pm. This isn't my first time at this store and I consider this a decent spot to have pho. The first thing you notice is a sour, musty smell when you walk into the restaurant. It's not the typical pho smell. I'm not one to really judge a book by its cover. I sat down at a table, ordered the fried egg rolls and steak and brisket pho. The egg rolls came out first. They were a dark brown color instead of the light golden brown. I tried a bite and it was really greasy and unappetizing. Not too long after the egg rolls came out, the pho was served. Usually I take some time to put together my pho. Add the bean sprouts, take out the white onions, rip off the basil, make my sauce on the side to dip my meat. I notice a bug on the edge of the table. My husband was with me and I looked at him to see if he saw the same thing. Apparently he didn't see what I saw so I took a napkin and took care of it. At this point, I had only taken one bite of the egg roll and really didn't know if we should continue or leave. My husband flagged a server to take away the napkin. The cockroach was still alive under the napkin and the server discreetly took it away. No words or anything. He just provided the extra napkins my husband requested. We quickly just finished our meals to get out of there. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. Before this event, I was recommending this place as decent pho in Tacoma. I guess my search will continue for good pho in the Tacoma area. read more

I saw this hole in the wall place off IG. My friends and I thought, wonderful it'll be a cold day and soup is always nice. We went on a rainy day and the place was pretty chilly because of where the entrance is located. The place has a little wear and tear and could use a bit of sprucing up along the walls where customers are seated. As soon as we sat down the restaurant was busy. I was really looking forward to eating my Phnom Penh noodles, the broth was good but soup was warm and cool, halfway through my meal. My friends also said the same about their soups. Another said her meat on her rice dish was dry. I had asked for hot tea and no hot tea arrived. By the end of our meal we sat around looking to see if our check would be brought to the table or we had to get up to pay. Food taste was as expected but the meat was seemed a little overcooked . Not sure. The noodle dishes were lukewarm unfortunately. Service could leave much to be desired. The space is small so please be aware that a large party is not going to fit here. It's on the street corner so there's some parking in the lot next to it but will most likely be full since it's shared with other businesses. Going to pay was a bit of a nightmare because there was a line waiting to get seated and a line to pay and there was no space. In addition, we waited quite awhile to get the check because we thought it would be better to stay out of the way but no one ever came to check on us. My friends and I discussed that maybe this place got some popular views online and couldn't handle the foot traffic. For THE BEST and most authentic Vietnamese food, dine at Vien Dong. We had the dac biet pho and the grilled pork chops with shrimp on broken rice plus fried egg rolls to start. The pho broth was absolutely delicious and the noodles' texture was slightly firm (not overcooked or hard) with high quality brisket, meatballs, tendon and tripe. The pork chops and shrimp were grilled to perfection and so flavorful! Service was exceptional, the staff and owners were so welcoming and kind. I visited family in August of 2025...my nephew got married; before flying back to LA my daughter wanted to try pho (she has her favorite pho spot in DTLA and she wanted to compare) out in Tacoma. My nephew guided us along and boom! The local spot for pho, Vien Dong! My daughter order plain pho, my nephew and I went with the beef pho. Let me just say...extremely satisfied with the broth! It just had great flavor! And my daughter agreed! The moment her and I tasted the broth we both looked at each other and kinda did that look like "oh shit, this is better than the pho back home" without having to say it. We all know pho is all about the broth and this, mi gente, does NOT disappoint. No wonder my nephew and his girl go there so much. It's definitely a mom and pop shop which I love supporting family owned small businesses so don't expect too much in the ambiance, it's plain not fancy. The investment is in the broth. Service was good, got in, ordered, food came rather timely, paid and took off...however, the whole way back to my nephew's house my daughter and I couldn't stop talking about how good it was! Went here based on good reviews. We were basically ignored from the minute we walked in, waitstaff helping other people, walking past us, table busser walked past us. Some other waitstaff finally came and sat us. We ordered before another couple of tables but they all got their food first. Waitstaff eventually told us they forgot about us! Coffee was cold.
