YESSS!! This is THE place for Vietnamese food! They are indeed authentic! I have been missing the smell and taste of staple Vietnamese dishes ever since I moved out of California a few months ago. I used to receive Mom's vietnamese home cooking frequently and I lived near the Asian hubbubs with easy access to all the cuisine, but now I have to discover new places here in Washington to satiate my taste buds. Everything I've tried so far has been good. I've been content. But here!! I ordered takeout through Doordash, and as soon as I picked up my food, an aroma of so many flavors filled up my car. Parking is kinda annoying since it's on the street but I arrived within 30 mins of opening hours so it wasn't terrible yet. The restaurant already had at least a table or so, with customers, so I wouldn't be surprised if it got busier later. There's a fair amount of space and tables for hungry stomachs! The food was about ready by the time I arrived, and the 30 min drive home left me feeling famished and ready to dig in. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. Everything was packaged well so that nothing spilled during the car ride, and everything was so yummy! I ordered more than I originally intended... I was craving com tam (broken rice) and couldn't find a satisfactory place near my residence, so I drove all the way here to Tacoma.. and then I figured, I might as well order their Banh Xeo too! The photos online made it look so good, and it ended up tasting amazing! Slightly crispy and stuffed just enough with bean sprouts, meat, and other goodies. Perfect after drizzling some of the sauce over it. The Com Tam was also made well, and definitely hit my cravings with its classic ingredients. I ordered a Large Pho Bo Vien (meatball) for my son, and was sooo tempted to eat some myself. The broth smelled fresh and the noodles were cooked nicely. Decent portions for everything, too. I definitely need to return to try out more of their food. So far, it has made me one happy Viet gal :) read more

Restaurant is a little run down and not the cleanest, pots stored on the floor in the hallway with cleaning supplies. The floor was sticky and squeaky. Wasn't feeling great about my decision after we had already ordered. The apple salad was very fishy. A little fish sauce goes a long way. It wasn't delicious. The shaken beef was okay, not great. Same for the beef rib pho. The vermicelli with pork and shrimp was the best dish we ordered and it wasn't anything mind blowing. Glad we had come for lunch and not dinner. read more

The sprinkley, cloudy, chilly day called for something soupy. After all the sandwiches we had during our hikes in the Olympics over the past few days, we were feeling for Asian cuisine. We were headed to Tacoma and I came across VK Viet Kitchen on Yelp. Food looked great and reviews were plenty enough. Table is free for all as long as it's available. Once we sat down, the owner came to talk to us pretty quickly. He asked if we've eaten at the restaurant before and how we found out about them. They're a long time standing business around the area, so even on a random Wednesday lunch hour, most of the tables were full. The menu is extensive! There's a lot of menu items that are new to us, but between the three of us, we got the Green Apple Salad with Tofu (S1) and Crab Meat Fried Rolls (A18) to share. My partner got the Bun Rieu Tom Cua (V4) and my brother got the Bun Bo Hue (V3). I opted for Hu Tieu with Soup (P15). The green apple salad was pretty good. It's got a lot of tangy flavor to it because they used green apples and they mixed in a lot of apple slices. It also goes surprisingly well with the tofu and it's nice that they cut up the tofu into bigger matchsticks to match the apple slices. As for the Crab Meat Fried Rolls - these were really nicely fried. Nice, crunchy outer exterior and lots of crab meat in the inside. The pickled veggies was a nice palate cleanser. Finally, for my Hu Tieu, the soup was amazing! It's a nice, light, clear and nourishing broth. It's comforting for the chilly day. They provided a lot of pork liver, kidney, shrimp, squid, and even a quail egg in there. I like the addition of chives as well. Awesome Vietnamese restaurant to take a lunch break at. Noticed new pictures on the wall featuring a couple of soups and banh khot , mini pancakes with shrimp, meant to be eaten as a lettuce wrap. This is another version of banh xeo, a larger crispy pancake made with pork belly and shrimp folded into the batter. Not many Vietnamese restaurants make this, so it was exciting to order today. We also ordered bun mang vit, duck salad with bamboo shoot noodle soup, and soft shelled crabs. All excellent. Featuring the Banh khot because it's a special dish. The rice batter was light yet substantial with richness of coconut milk, a large shrimp, topped with diced bacon and scallions. When you add fresh lettuce, herbs, and an aromatic sweet-sour sauce... it's delightfully delicious ( chef's kiss). The edges of this pancake was crispy and added texture to every bite. I prefer this over banh xeo because not everyone can achieve the crisp outer texture. You cannot eat just one!5/5 VK Viet Kitchen is A Must Visit in Lincoln neighborhood of Tacoma. We have sampled many dishes over the year and do not believe there is an underwhelming dish here. There are so many options on menu from appetizers, soups to entrees, with lots of condiments on table to elevate your experience and expectations. It's been a long tme since I've enjoyed such a great authentic Vietnamese restaurant. From the moment we entered the restaurant it just smelled right and it just got better from there. Our waiter was so kind by sitting me at a seat I could just roll up to with my wheelchair. And his suggestions were spot on, too. The vermicelli was perfect with the egg roll filled with yummy veggies and the bowl with perfectly grilled meat. I look forward to returning again to enjoy everything that strikes my fancy. My only challenge wad entering the front door threshold with my wheelchair but the staff was right on it helping me into the restaurant. I miss eating Vietnamese every week in Seattle's China Town for lunch but now I have a perfect substution in Tacoma. Thank you VK Viet Kitchen. I look forward to my next visit. read more

I had VK Viet Kitchen on my bookmarks. How it got back on after writing a review I don't know. But I just went back which is now a return visit as opposed to a first time visit. I vaguely remember coming here now that I reflect back on the place. That was about six years ago and my opinion remains the same on it. A good, solid four stars. On my return visit I got crispy noodles with chicken along with vegetables like broccoli. All of it was really good and the crispy noodles themselves were fun to munch on. I do like a crunch with some meals sometimes. I got full and took some of my meal home in which it made good leftovers as well. To drink I had a Thai Iced Tea. It was very refreshing and made a good contrast with savory and sweet combination that made up my meal. read more

Came with my mom and wife on a recommendation from some native friends as a good authentic spot to eat and was not disappointed. Located in South Tacoma in a large Vietnamese populated area. Cute little family owned and operated business. Ordered green apple salad with prawns and the spicy squid as appetizers. Loved the spicy squid (especially the spicy green dipping sauce). Salad was refreshing too and had great flavor. Mom ordered a garlic pasta with boc choy and it was pretty good. I ordered a spicy beef soup and I loved the broth but it had some part of the cow I just don't eat. Fun to try though. This place is always pack but their customer service is exceptional. They clear a table for us as soon as one is available for us. My daughter ate the Bo ne and I had the bun cha Ha Noi. I ask for extra bread and water and they got that immediately even as they were very busy. Food is good. I had to order extra things to try for later. Highly recommend Bo Ne and Bun Cha Ha Noi and their Banh Can Tom Cua Owner was making rounds asking people if they need anything and how was their food. Such a nice gesture. Consistently good Viet food through out the year. It's my go-to when I crave Bun Bo Hue, Bo kho (beef strew with baguette). Been going here for several years now since I've moved to Tacoma and they have been the best when I can just call and order do pick up. You cannot go wrong with orders of pho, bun Bo hue, rice dishes. Their fried egg rolls and fresh spring rolls are also fantastic. We had the soft shelled crab appetizer, mi xao gion (crispy noodle stir fry), goi vit (duck salad) and mi kho nam vang (sea food egg noodles), and mango sticky rice. All of it was delicious. This was our first time here, we were driving on I5 and wanted dinner so we googled Viet restaurants in Tacoma. The service is helpful, friendly and fast. It's comparable to some of the Vietnamese spots in LA. All the dishes were good, but highlight of the meal was definitely the grilled squid. Visited VK Viet kitchen on Christmas Eve. We were so thankful that VK was opened!! Food: There is a huge menu and I really enjoyed their speciality food. Ordered soft shell crab - it was amazing and the entire crab is so crunchy. We also ordered Bun rieu and seafood udon noodles. The broth is so flavorful with generous amount of ingredients. Vk Viet Kitchen I found on Yelp and just so happened to stop by here last night! I ordered the vermicelli, and it was perfection in a bowl--fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. The balance of the grilled meats, crisp veggies, and tangy fish sauce was spot on. My boyfriend opted for the bun bo hue. The broth was rich and aromatic, with just the right amount of spice. Came here on a cold evening for dinner on a Tuesday. Got seated right away even for a party of 7 without reservations. Once seated, they brought out hot teas. Upon request, they got us iced water as well. The place is the normal mom&pop asian restaurant where you get just enough attention refilling water and service without checking on you every 5 minutes like other restaurants. The restaurant got a little more busier with few more tables taken. The spring roll has sliced/halved springs as well as some bbq pork slices. The peanut sauce tasted rich and good as I expected from an ordinary restaurant. I also got the combo pho for my dinner. It has enough sliced beef, tendons, beef balls etc in the bowl. Broth was clear and hot to cook the beef slices, quite flavorful and not too salty. The bowl of pho for ~$14.50 large is definitely enough to share for two normal appetite. read more

Usually, DoorDash orders aren't as great with other places, but I feel like VK Viet Kitchen does such a good job with their packaging, that doing a take-out door didn't change the way the food tasted or the quality of the food. I've gotten the Banh Canh (Vietnamese Udon), Beef Stew, Bun Mam (Fermented Fish Noodle), Vermicelli Noodle Salad Bowl - all are delicious. The number one reason why I keep ordering from them, and also continue to visit their new location: they have dishes that many other typical Viet restaurants don't have. ***Wow!!!*** I've been meaning to leave a review for VK Viet Kitchen on 38th Street in Tacoma. A group of friends and I stopped by after I found the place while Googling tamarind sour soup. We ordered a variety of dishes to share--mango salad, grilled squid, shrimp fried rice, chicken and beef pho, catfish sour soup, and both fried and fresh spring rolls. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The owners, Vincent and Kenny, were friendly and welcoming. If you're unsure what to order, don't hesitate to ask--they're happy to recommend something. Kenny mentioned many of the recipes are from his mom and rooted in his family's cooking traditions, which made the experience feel even more special. The restaurant is cozy with great service. Parking can be a little tight, but there's free curbside and some in the back. They also have a second location on South Tacoma Way in Lakewood if that's closer. I was recommended this restaurant by a wonderful woman who does my nails and Gig Harbor. I commented on how I love Vietnamese food. She suggested that I check out the VK Viet Kitchen in Tacoma. I loved this restaurant. The atmosphere was casual and a cool funky vibe. I was immediately struck by the multigenerational guests who were laughing and enjoying huge bowls and plates of food. There is a strong sense of community here. Now onto the food. Apologies for not remembering the Vietnamese names, but we had the crab and pork rolls served with a sweet dipping sauce, which were amazing. Then we had the mango salad with shrimp and then the crêpe with pork shrimp and bean sprouts. Everything was amazing. The crêpe was massive and light and airy coconut flavored filled with bean sprouts, shrimp and pork. it was served alongside a huge selection of lettuce leaves Thai basil and cilantro. This dish is a bit messy. If you eat it the way the waiter suggested by wrapping a big chunk of the crepe in the lettuce leaves with cilantro and basil and dipping it in the sauce. Ronnie, the owner/chef, came by our table to see how we liked everything and described how they make the crêpe. He saw that we loved the mango salad and suggested we try the apple salad next time as he said, it was his personal favorite. I want to start off by saying that I used to not like this place because I had a bad experience when I disliked something, but they didn't give me any refund or any remake or offer any solution, they just made me pay with an empty stomach. Even though it was very clear that I did not finish my food. (I got the beef stew last time.) BUT, after year, I decided to give it another try today because I was really craving some good pho. And I want to say that the customer service was never bad and isn't bad, maybe they just didn't know how to navigate that situation. And their beef pho is amazing. It is probably the best in town that I've had so far. The small bowl portion size is perfect for me to finish, the broth did not need any seasonings or sauces. Very rich and great cut of steak. I also had some really yummy flan and they added some coffee/on top and it was just phenomenal. Best dessert I've ever had.
