    BBQ pork banh mi

This is a cute shop in a little shopping center. I'd never been there before today and omg will I be back?! I ordered a bbq Bahn Mi and some basic beef pho (01 on the menu). I've had a couple bahn mi before but this was so full of meat and flavor! It was so super tasty! The pho is for my son and friend but it is generous portion for sure! I'm wishing I got some pho for myself now! I will definitely be back to try their pho and other menu items. Edit for the pho once we got home: The pho was takeout, so here's a look when we got it home! This is in an extra large Pyrex Tupperware- I want to say an 8 cup one? We heated up the broth and started putting all the goodies together! It was pretty fun! You gotta make sure the broth is nice and hot since you get your meat raw with takeout! I love that everything was portioned out, some directions may have been helpful for this newb but I figured it out and it was delish! Perfect treat for a yucky day!

Hands down, this spot is the best so far. I ordered the tofu. Their homemade bbq sauce was so good.

Very good tofu bahn mi sandwich. So intricate and delicate. The best so far. The homemade bbq sauce is the truth

Disappointed. The vermicelli noodle salad was good, but my order of fresh spring rolls came with 1 small roll and a small box (maybe to look bigger in?). I have been ordering spring rolls here for at least 2 years and they usually come with one large/long spring roll cut into 2 decent sized ones with lettuce poking out of the ends. I'm not sure if this is to cut costs during COVID but I only ordered veggies and no meat (although costs the same), so if anything, it should've been larger than it was. Not smaller. Needless to say, I won't be ordering anymore rolls from here. Lele's always give's two for the cost of this one. And their food is delicious.

Fast service, and they brought it out to the car while I waited too! I didn't actually eat the entire meal (it was for my grandfather). My grandfather is a bit snobby when it comes to food though and he said it was pretty good- high praise from him. I did sample the char-broiled pork~ mouthwateringly tasty!

A friend and I stopped by Pho Tai today for lunch. It was the first time for the both of us. The space is small but cozy and tables are spaced far enough apart that you have privacy. When we got there around noon there was a surprisingly large lunch crowd. Food was still quick though! I was going to order just a regular vegetable pho but they have a deal where you can get a large pho + a spring roll for $10 or so. Being that I'm kind of a spring roll connoisseur, I ordered a large veggie pho with a tofu spring roll. The spring roll was large and fairly basic but still really good. Aside from noodles, lettuce, and basil, they also put fried onions in it, which was new to me but super yummy. My spring roll was wrapped a bit loosely which made it tricky to eat but I made it work. The large pho was HUGE, like -- almost enough for 2 people. A regular will definitely be my go-to in the future. Like other reviews state, the broth is super flavorful here. You won't be let down. I also appreciated the assortment of veggies -- carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, cabbage. They weren't skimpy with them either! My friend ordered a house spring roll (shrimp and ham) and the bbq chicken vermicelli bowl. She gave both two thumbs up. Overall, Pho Tai on Center is solid. Food is good, portions are plenty, and prices are fair. I knock off one star because the service wasn't the best (our order felt rushed, they forgot our extra side of peanut sauce, no refill on our waters) but it was also a packed house so I didn't take it personal. I'll be coming back for sure.

I want to love this place so badly. Their food is amazing and they are usually very friendly when we go in. The reason why I am rating them three stars is because last time we ordered takeout from them, we found a screw in our bahn mi. I called the restaurant to let them know, and they immediately got defensive. Even after I told them they didn't need to replace the sandwich, they insinuated I was making it up. Hopefully this was just a one-off bad day. I get that accidents happen, but I left the interaction feeling awkward which may affect where I order from in the future.

This is my husband's favorite place. It's his birthday today and we are having banh mi. To me it looks like a sub sandwich but so much better. I don't see it on their posted menu, but they do serve it. I have had some from other Vietnamese places and so far Pho Tai is the best. So excited to introduce my kids to this awesome sandwich.

Pho Tai recently opened in the little shopping center just outside of Fircrest, on the South side of Center Street near Home Depot. It's a little hard to see from the road but well worth the effort to find. It's kind of small inside - not that many tables, and based on how yummy the food was, I'm betting this little restaurant will often be packed at lunch! We ordered and shared the most basic dish of a Pho restaurant - the Chicken Pho. And it was absolutely yummy! The broth was perfect - didn't need much of anything added, but as with most Vietnamese places, you have the usual choices of sauces to add, and the usual plate of sprouts, peppers, and Thai Basil (could have had a little more of that though). The soup had lots of stuff in it as well, and the chicken was pretty perfect. And if you're counting your carbs, you may want to ask for fewer noodles - they give you a very generous portion. What really amazed us was the service. We were in a hurry, on our way to attend a play up on 6th Avenue, and the waiter picked up on our request like a snap of the fingers. I kid you not - our bowl of Pho was on the table in THREE MINUTES. Not an exaggeration - we simply said we were short on time and he immediately pointed to the Pho section of the menu as being the fastest (which we wanted to do anyway) and he made it happen. Well done. We will be back for lunch day after tomorrow and try something else from the pretty large menu - but I think this will become a regular for us, being the closest Pho place to where we live - and really about the best in the general area. Dave

YESSS!! This is THE place for Vietnamese food! They are indeed authentic!…read more I have been missing the smell and taste of staple Vietnamese dishes ever since I moved out of California a few months ago. I used to receive Mom's vietnamese home cooking frequently and I lived near the Asian hubbubs with easy access to all the cuisine, but now I have to discover new places here in Washington to satiate my taste buds. Everything I've tried so far has been good. I've been content. But here!! I ordered takeout through Doordash, and as soon as I picked up my food, an aroma of so many flavors filled up my car. Parking is kinda annoying since it's on the street but I arrived within 30 mins of opening hours so it wasn't terrible yet. The restaurant already had at least a table or so, with customers, so I wouldn't be surprised if it got busier later. There's a fair amount of space and tables for hungry stomachs! The food was about ready by the time I arrived, and the 30 min drive home left me feeling famished and ready to dig in. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. Everything was packaged well so that nothing spilled during the car ride, and everything was so yummy! I ordered more than I originally intended... I was craving com tam (broken rice) and couldn't find a satisfactory place near my residence, so I drove all the way here to Tacoma.. and then I figured, I might as well order their Banh Xeo too! The photos online made it look so good, and it ended up tasting amazing! Slightly crispy and stuffed just enough with bean sprouts, meat, and other goodies. Perfect after drizzling some of the sauce over it. The Com Tam was also made well, and definitely hit my cravings with its classic ingredients. I ordered a Large Pho Bo Vien (meatball) for my son, and was sooo tempted to eat some myself. The broth smelled fresh and the noodles were cooked nicely. Decent portions for everything, too. I definitely need to return to try out more of their food. So far, it has made me one happy Viet gal :)

We were headed to Tacoma and I came across VK Viet Kitchen on Yelp. Food looked great and reviews were plenty enough. Table is free for all as long as it's available. Once we sat down, the owner came to talk to us pretty quickly. He asked if we've eaten at the restaurant before and how we found out about them. They're a long time standing business around the area, so even on a random Wednesday lunch hour, most of the tables were full. The menu is extensive! There's a lot of menu items that are new to us, but between the three of us, we got the Green Apple Salad with Tofu (S1) and Crab Meat Fried Rolls (A18) to share. My partner got the Bun Rieu Tom Cua (V4) and my brother got the Bun Bo Hue (V3). I opted for Hu Tieu with Soup (P15). The green apple salad was pretty good. It's got a lot of tangy flavor to it because they used green apples and they mixed in a lot of apple slices. It also goes surprisingly well with the tofu and it's nice that they cut up the tofu into bigger matchsticks to match the apple slices. As for the Crab Meat Fried Rolls - these were really nicely fried. Nice, crunchy outer exterior and lots of crab meat in the inside. The pickled veggies was a nice palate cleanser. Finally, for my Hu Tieu, the soup was amazing! It's a nice, light, clear and nourishing broth. It's comforting for the chilly day. They provided a lot of pork liver, kidney, shrimp, squid, and even a quail egg in there. I like the addition of chives as well. Awesome Vietnamese restaurant to take a lunch break at. Employees were friendly and efficient. It was also really nice of the owner to talk to us and just get us comfortable. I've bookmarked this place for the next time we come visit Seattle!

I ordered the calamari from the specials menu and the ginger steak pho from the regular menu. The biggest downside for me was the temperature inside the restaurant. It was one of those really cold, pouring rain days we've been having lately, and the dining area felt pretty chilly. I'm not sure if the heat wasn't on or if the space just takes a while to warm up, but it definitely stood out and I dreaded anytime another person opened the front door to let a rush of cold air inside. The other thing was how long the food took to come out. I stopped in during my lunch break, and from the time I ordered it took about 25 minutes for the food to arrive. Most pho spots I've been to are usually closer to the 8-10 minute range, so that was a bit of a surprise. I also saw banana cake on their specials menu, which I really wanted to try, but I ended up skipping it because I was worried it might take another 20+ minutes and I needed to get back to work. That said, the food itself was great. The calamari was fantastic and honestly should probably be added to their regular menu. It had a great crispy coating, was served hot, and the seasoning was really good. The texture was perfect too -- none of that rubbery calamari you sometimes get. I finished the entire plate. The ginger steak pho was also excellent, especially on such a cold day. I had never tried ginger steak pho before, but I'm glad I did. The broth was really comforting and helped warm me up, the steak slices were tender, and they didn't hold back on the ginger. The dish came with ginger already in the soup, the meat was wrapped with ginger shoots, and they even provided extra ginger on the side, which I happily added. Parking might be something to keep in mind if you visit during a busier time. Because of the terrible weather when I went, I got lucky and found parking right out front, but I could see it getting tight on a normal day. Overall, I would definitely come back. The food was really good, just plan for a little extra time if you're stopping in during a busy period.
