3rd time coming here . There will always be a line forming outside to eat inside and packed with only like 8 tables! I prefer to get my food to go and bypass the dine in line. A little chaotic ordering and paying togo, but still quicker. The portions are huge here, The mix protein soup is so good! Bbq pork/roasted pork & duck , with tons of delicious egg noodles and veggies. It's basically 2 servings and so worth the $20! Highly suggest coming here for authentic food!
The more I spend time exploring Tacoma, the more I am loving it! Take this winner of a well-run family-owned restaurant in the Lincoln District of Tacoma. It looks unassuming on the outside, but it is all heart on the inside. You can tell this restaurant has been well-loved in this neighborhood for years-- 28 years in fact! I dug the community vibes and organized hustle and bustle atmosphere. We sat at the counter because it was a full house with many more customers waiting in line to get a table. I'm so glad we sat at the counter-- best seats in the house IMO because we got to chat with the friendly staff and get a close-up view of some entertaining behind the scenes action. I highly recommend the Combo Plate ("Cơm Thập Cẩm" that's comprised of roast duck, roasted pork, and BBQ pork over steamed rice with pickled veggies and their house sauce). Ohmygosh, what a treat!!! Everything tasted so good and the service was welcoming and efficient. It was a lot of food so I took about half of it to go. Including a stuffed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf that was in a pile next to me and looked too irresistible for me not to take at least one home. This restaurant is a new favorite of mine in Tacoma. They informed me that a more fancy-looking and modern one is located in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle. I plan to check it out one day. Hopefully, it'll be just as great as this OG one.
First time here and have nothing bad to say about my experience. Food was amazing, Vietnamese coffee was strong (as it should be) and the staff was very nice. We went around lunch time on a Sunday and it was packed. The foot traffic was consistent the whole time we were there. Noticed a lot of take out orders coming out of the place. Suggested if you are coming here to not be surprised about how busy it is. It's worth the wait!
Ambiance: This is a little confusing shop. It has hanging meat in its window like a classic Chinatown take out restaurant but it's run by a Vietnamese family and has a Vietnamese-themed mural on the wall. They play electro dance music and the TV just cycles between short clips of cities like Rio de Janiero. Nothing is particularly cohesive but service is very friendly and they show up where it counts, the food. Food: I'm an American born Chinese kid from California and the food here could go head to head with anything in San Diego or LA. The broth is clean and simple Chinese style soup, not too salty and perfectly reduced. They load the bowls with tons of protein and are very flexible with whatever combination of proteins you want. The cha sui is perfect with just the right amount of sweet glaze and a touch of char to keep it interesting. The roast pork has one of the crispiest skins I've had which you can just let soak in the broth to your desired consistency. The duck is moist, tender, and relatively meaty (sometimes restaurants source scrawny ducks which are mostly bone). The weakest part of dish is the which have that store-bought taste and could be fresher and slightly more al dente. Overall this some of the best Chinese BBQ I've had, as good as any major city I've been. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!
The food was absolutely amazing. The broth was so flavorful and the meat was nice and juicy. I really really liked the bbq pork. Service was a bit hectic but once we were sat we had our food within 10 minutes of ordering. It seemed clean ing there and the inside looks way different than the outside. The floors were pretty oily but not sticky just slick. I'd come back!
so yummyyy!! the roasted pork was crispy and the duck was so juicy and tender. the sauce for the noodles was flavorful and the duck really enhanced that. i think my favorite park of the dish were all the greens!! i loved the dua chua and the pickled jalapeños, it really added onto the flavors. got the durian che as well, which was so refreshing! yummy rating: 10/10
Amazing Asian bbq place ran by a family. My bf got two different plates to go and their portions are massive. Their pickled veggies cut through the meats well. Duck: 8/10 not too much meat on them. I'm not sure if it's a because it's viet bbq but I'm used to the duck being a dark amber color, theirs was more orange but nevertheless the flavor was still good Char siu bbq pork: 10/10 flavorful, can never go wrong with this one. If I were to order from this place I would go for this again and maybe try the roast pork
Great Vietnamese bbq! Duck was flavorful, roast pork was crisp and juicy. They chop the meat right as you order and the food comes out hot. I've had both the combo rice plate and the combo soup. I also enjoy the pickled veggies to cut through the rich meat. The prices have gone up but what establishment hasn't? The interior was revamped in the last year or two which is refreshing. Not in the best location but worth the drive!

This is one of my favorite roasted duck spots, and every time I'm in WA, I try to make the trek to Tacoma for their duck noodle soup. They make phenomenal BBQ pork as well, and the roast pork is equally popular -- but I come for the duck. We stopped in for a quick breakfast and ordered our usual: duck noodle soup and the two-item combo with BBQ pork and roast pork over rice. That first sip of broth was exactly as I remembered - clean, deeply savory, and comforting. It didn't need a single condiment. We did notice the portions of the BBQ pork and roast pork have decreased slightly since our last visit. However, the flavor remains outstanding - tender, well-roasted, and incredibly satisfying. We were greeted and seated quickly. Food arrived moments after ordering. The restaurant filled up by the time we finished our meals. Before leaving, we picked up two pounds of BBQ pork to share with family and friends. It's just that good. This remains a must-stop whenever I'm in Washington.
This place is always packed. So prepare to wait and have back up order options in case they sell out. The food is very fresh and tasty! The workers are always hustling and doing their best to take care of everyone.
The best place for bbq in Tacoma!! I have been wanting to come here for a very long time and this place did not disappoint at all. Might be because I'm Vietnamese but I felt so welcomed there. The plates are also a good price considering the amount of food you get. The plate comes with a soup that is light yet flavorful - reminds me of the soup that my mom made growing up. It also comes with pickled veggies, cucumber, rice, and the dipping sauce. The picked mustard greens were my favorite! I could eat so much of that. The meat was definitely the star of the show. All of the meat was meaty and kind of fatty at the same time, not dry at all. Full of flavor. The pork belly and duck sin was crispy. Everything I could ever want from Vietnamese bbq meat. The sauce that came with the meal elevated the meat. Closes at 3pm every day, and sometimes they do sell out of meat earlier than that, so make sure to come early and try! Worth it for me. I definitely will buy some meat and bring it home.
Came here to try some noods. I had the duck noodle soup that was dry and soup on the side. The flavor of the duck was so good and a lot of different flavors. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I couldnt stop eating the onion and sour mustard greens and wish they had more, but thats just being greedy lol The service was great and attentive. I will definitely be back to try more!

So I had this place bookmarked from idk how long ago. I probably saw some random tiktok and the food looked so good that I bookmarked it on Yelp, hoping to one day try it out. Well that day has come. We ended up staying at a hotel nearby for a friend's wedding. We were getting hungry and I luckily checked Yelp and saw that I bookmarked this place when it showed up on my nearby food list. What a crazy coincidence. So we drive over and park on a side street. There was a small line outside and we waited patiently for a few minutes. Once inside, we were seated at the counter and it was packed, a little hot and everything smelled delicious. My friend and I both ordered the duck and pork noodle soup and it was maybe the best noodle soup I've ever had. The pork had crispy skin, the duck was soft and flavorful. It was all just so delicious. The iced coffee was strong and sweet. We also got the dessert. Make sure to add durian if they ask. It made it 1000x better if that's even possible. Honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. I'd definitely be back if I'm ever in Tacoma again. read more

Tho Tuong BBQ on South 38th Street is a small neighborhood spot that's gotten really popular. It's often busy with people lining up outside, so clearly they've built a solid reputation. The dining area is quite small, so I usually order to go. The food itself is good. The barbecue duck is flavorful and reasonably priced around 35 dollars for a whole duck, and the roast pork at around 16 dollars per pound is also a good value. I really like their broken rice, and the pickled jalapeños with sauce makes the meal feel complete. However, the dining experience has some challenges. The space can get crowded, ventilation isn't great, and seating by the door can be uncomfortable. Service also feels stretched at times, since the same person may be cooking, handling chairs and serving. I'd give it four stars. The food is worth trying, but improvements in seating, airflow, and service would make it a better overall experience. read more

Street parking, always great service and delicious food. Can't get enough of the roasted pork and duck. Broth is flavorful. Good portions. We frequent at least once a week. Rice plates are good if you don't feel like broth and noodles. read more
Came here on a saturday around noon as we were in town. Saw some good reviews and had been craving for some good bbq do why not! IT WAS SOOOO GOOD! We got the combo meat for noodle and rice and boy oh boy, was it worth it. The soup was flavorful, pork belly was crispy, duck leg was big and juicy, bbq pork was sweet savory and slightly charred. The portion was pretty big too! We also got viet coffee. As you know it, it's like sweet and strong usually. But their viet coffee is just sweet enough and has the great coffee taste and nutty bitter aftertaste that leaves you wanting more! The cream/milk that mix it with makes it extra creamy as well! Yes, there's literally no mention of price anywhere even on their menu, but our bill came out to about $50ish. The place is pretty small ish but they have about 8 bar seats, and some 20ish table seats. But many people line up for to-gos. Definitely a hole in the wall kind of place for viet/cantonese bbq! read more
Came over for lunch. A small spot to catch lunch. Most people were ordering roast pork and BBQ pork to go. We ordered two Noodle Combo with meat. Which included BBQ pork, roasted duck and roasted pork with egg noodles. We ask if the roasted pork could be on the side and was told No. The noodle combo came out quickly. The meat trio were delicious and crispy. Since the meat is made in house. The soup base was very flavorful and delicious. We saw a big pot of broth on the stove. The noodles are cooked as soon as you ordered it. Limited parking on the side street. They sell more various lunch dishes and cold Vietnamese drinks. Great noodle combo and definitely great bbq place for pickup and take out for roasted pork and whole duck and BBQ pork. read more

Tho Tuong BBQ doesn't disappoint! Food and service is alway amazing here. There's plenty of street parking here. It's a casual, clean and cozy place. They could use a little more seating since it's gotten so popular now. The food comes out fast so you can expect tables to open up periodically. Food is on point. Fresh and crispy pork skin, juicy duck with a lot of meat. It's such a generous portion. You also get soup broth and mustard greens/jalapeños with the rice plate. I only finished half. The side of greens and jalapeños are a perfect side. The noodle soup is delicious as well. I also had Vietnamese iced coffee, just ask for light ice! This place has actually been around for a while. Glad it's getting the recognition it deserves with more posts and reviews. read more

Busy but 200% worth the wait. Has been on my list forever but since they only open til 4, it took me a while to make it in. We sat at the counter and got to watch them in action. They whip plates up super fast. The staff were incredibly kind despite the crowd. I had the duck noodle soup and I have been craving this kind of noodle soup for literally years. Move over pho and ramen, give me this one any day. My husband devoured his roasted duck lunch plate with rice. One of the chefs saw I had saved the duck for last and whipped up a dipping sauce for me that was amazing. We don't get to come to this area of Tacoma often, but now that this is on our radar, we will be back- the tray of just the meat looked like an incredible value for the price. The Vietnamese iced coffee is also on my list after watching them make order after order while waiting for my piping hot soup to cool down. 10/10, one of the best new to me places we have tried this year. It immediately went on my Tacoma faves list. read more

I have been wanting to go to Tho Tuong BBQ for a very long time. I made my first attempt there several years ago and at the time they only took cash(which I carry very little of) and I decided to reschedule a visit whenever I did have some. Well, that was a long long time later when I finally did make it back to discover they accepted debit and credit cards now. I am glad I did make a return visit even though it was years before I did. I got the BBQ Pork Noodle Soup and Steve got a very fine rice dish to take home and eat. I loved my soup and it totally and completely hit the spot for the cold, wet day we were encountering. The BBQ Pork, noodles and the broth itself were wonderful. The pork was very flavorful as well as the broth and the noodles were just the right tenderness. It was a very enjoyable meal! So since the restaurant takes "plastic money" or debit/credit cards a return visit will not be nearly as long as the previous one. Tho Tuong BBQ is an extremely popular place and has been since I have lived in the nearby area. Every time I drive by it is quite busy! read more
Guys, just look at the photos. It tastes even better than it looks, I promise. You can't go wrong with any of the food on the menu here. I haven't tried the drinks, so I can't vouch for those, but the bbq pork is so crispy, the duck is perfectly tender, and the roast pork is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. I'd highly recommend dining in. There's usually a line for takeout, but you can place your order right away if you eat in. This is also an advantage because they will often sell out of a particular meat while people are waiting in line, so come early and dine in. If you're deciding whether to try the noodles or the rice, I'd recommend trying the rice when you come here for the first time because some of the soup comes with the meal if you eat in. Not everyone enjoys the soup, so this is an easy way to try it out. Come and enjoy, but don't tell your friends about it because then the line will be longer (shh) read more
For sure this is the best bbq restaurant in WA. Their crispy pork is amazing and i loved their bbq pork as well. I even ordered it to go to eat it next day. The store is very busy. Loved durian che that I got for the dessert too. Only considerable side is parking. read more
In my opinion I would say the flavor balance of Tho Tuong BBQ is flavorful complementing the tenderness, juicy, and crunch. I compared my palette to Richmond, BC popular HK BBQ and unequivocally prefer this Tacoma, Wa gem. I ordered the roasted pork, duck, and bbq pork. I drove down from north of Seattle. There is a small dining area and a to-go-prefer line on the left. It is your usual wait time that appears inefficient but works. I jokingly refer to it as "Lao Time." The service is friendly and as you can tell superior. read more

Quality and taste are amazing!! Been here several times, and it's been great each time. I was a little disappointed with the viet coffee ratio the 3rd time around tho. The cream has already all melted since they get them ready in stack. Service is fast. Small place and can get packed. read more
We were recommended this place from colleagues and there's no regrets. Such a small cute restaurant with limited seating, and hard parking (lol)-- the service was great though. We got the combo rice plates. I decided on the roasted pork & Bbq pork while my bf got the Roast pork & Roast duck. All pretty good, but the winner was roast pork hands down. The roast duck was still sooo good too. The prices were reasonable and it came with a free soup starter that was really homey. I want to come back to try the egg noodles! read more

Located in Tacoma with a decent amount of street parking is this small little BBQ spot with a few tables as well as bar seating. Be warned that if you're not there right at opening on the weekends, expect to wait as this place gets popular for both dine in and take out. Friendly staff comes with the bustling restaurant as you're seated and they can accommodate larger parties if tables are available. This spot is a nice for a weekend lunch with friends and picking individual dishes or sharing it, family style. This time around, I got the Rice Plate with Roasted Pork and goodness; the pork skin is so crunchy yet comes with an after bite of juicy pork. Accompanied by it is some pickled veggies, rice, and a dipping sauce. This spot is also a great place to order to go or catering and actually had this at my wedding as well. Guaranteed to easily still be crunchy even when warming it up! read more

The line is long for a reason as there are lots of to go orders. I chose to dine in and once I got seated everything came out quick. I wanted to eat the pickled stuff and it looked like the soup noodle combos didn't come with it so I got a rice plate. I got the bbq pork and roast pork and they were both really good. They forgot my mustard greens and I wasn't sure if it came with them but it does. I got extra pickled jalapeños so it worked out in the end. The pork dishes were both super juicy and I liked the chili oil on the side too always have to add it. I would definitely come here again and make sure they include everything on my plate! read more

Came here on a saturday around 1pm and it was packed but was able to get a table right away. Went with the duck and roasted pork duck noodle soup as well as the char siu and roasted pork rice dish. The meats were so good and lived up to hype!! From the two dishes we enjoyed the rice dish more as you can get a better taste of the bbq'd meats and the pickled veggies go great with it. The soup in the noodle soup was light and aromatic. Our favorite cuts of meat ranked were 1) char siu 2) roasted pork 3) the roasted duck. Ultimately the char siu had such rich flavor and a good balance of fatty and meaty. The roast pork had a great five spice flavor with a crackling skin. Duck was good but nothing out of this world. we really liked that the meal started with a free soup as well. We will definitely be back for more!! read more
