I keep striking gold here. It's our second experience and I feel like the food was even better than the last time. Our server was Briana (I hope I got that right). She was fast greeting us and so sweet. It felt like we were eating at a family's house with much better chefs. This time we had the ribs, hen, Caesar salad, and steak sliders. I almost ate the plate because the food was so good. I didn't want to leave anything behind. My wife didn't quite enjoy her drink this time "the sunset" but I had a great glass of red wine. The steak sliders are worth a second mention. I would eat that every day. It was also happy hour so we tried a lot more than we usually would. I'm really loving this place. read more

Terrible experience. Anyone with industry experience would be horrified by how the situation was handled. From our table of 4, one person's order never got put in. The server didn't come by to check after food was delivered, so over 30 minutes went by before we could flag him down and ask when the 4th entree would be coming. He admitted he forgot, promised he'd get it going ASAP, and that he'd adjust the bill (unprompted, mind you!) Another 20 minutes, no food. No one checks in about drinks, no updates about the order, nothing. My friend has to flag the server down and ask for it to go; we just want to leave. Next, no itemized bill was presented before paying, so we had to ask for a breakdown. The server had given us a 10% discount on JUST her entree. $3 off a $250+ bill after making her wait nearly an hour for her food. They didn't offer to comp the meal - in fact they said it wasn't an option. "My hands are tied. This is our policy for when food comes late." They only agreed to remove the price of the entree when she said she didn't want it anymore and gave the to-go bag back. On the way out she stopped to speak with management, come to find the server didn't tell the whole story to his own boss. He said our table was merely upset about late food, not that the server never put in her order in the first place. Management retrieved her order from the kitchen and gave it back to her, though who knows what may have been done to it. Two stars because the food that we did get was delicious, but it wasn't worth the wait. read more

Had a reservation at 6:30 and was seated not too long after that and we ordered drinks at 6:35, we still did not receive our drinks at 6:50pm and people that came in after us received their drinks. We decided to cancel our order and leave the restaurant. It was not busy enough to wait almost 20 minutes for drinks. read more

After hearing great things from several friends I finally made it into Grann. I came for happy hour and enjoyed the Cameo cocktail, crawfish hush puppies and smash burger. The portion sizes were perfect for one person, were well presented and were absolutely delicious from first bite to last. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I am looking forward to my next visit for dinner. read more

We went again with our friends and I just HAD to update my review. Oh my god it was so good! The Shirley's chicken is insane!! We all shared it and it is a must order. Ambiance: The big open windows provided natural lighting. Though it was busy, it was easy to have a conversation without needing to shout. The spacing between tables was adequate and provided an intimate setting. The decor was everything. I love the bright pops of color. It had an industrial feel but also bright and cheery vibe. I couldn't stop raving about the textures. The service was excellent, made reservations online and we were seated promptly. Very friendly staff and gave excellent recommendations. Food: I typically shy away from fusion cuisine because it lacks authenticity and flavor. But Grann Restaurant delivered. The fusion of African American bbq and Indian dishes melded perfectly! Each dish was familiar yet uniquely different. The flavors are BOLD and bright. Loved all the dishes we ordered. (Curry Caesar, Shirley's Chicken and Pork Belly Sandwich. read more

Grann is ok. It's a little loud but service is pretty good. I felt like it was overpriced Indian food plus collard greens, but I like the idea of the restaurant - maybe we just ordered poorly. No wait on a Wednesday, the restaurant had other diners but it wasn't too busy either. We tried to order palak scallops but were told it wasn't ready yet, we also ordered Rogan Josh (lamb) and malai gobi curry, along with starters/sides chips and chutney and collards. I guess the chips and collards were southern and the rest was Indian influence? Malai gobi curry was not very good, definitely a poor ordering choice on our part. The Rogan Josh was delicious. I liked the collards and the chips and chutney. Chips n chutney reminded me of something you'd get at an Indian restaurant except for the barbecue ruffles topping the dish. While dining, the server mentioned we could order the scallops after all, but by then we already committed to the other dishes, so didn't get to try. I wished there was the fish and grits they had awhile ago, or maybe did the Rogan Josh with grits? Is it weird I think "with grits" makes it fusion? Anyway, I probably won't go back, but it's a nice idea. read more

From start to finish our dining experience at Grann Restaurant was wonderful! The entire Grann team takes pride in providing excellent customer service and delivering a culinary experience with the rotating menu. The owners/head chefs Jacob and Denzel are extremely personable they make sure to greet and connect with every seated guest. Be sure to book your reservation in advance especially for larger parties of 4 or more. My Consigliere and I came here on a whim, last night. He got the Turkey curry and I had the Duck Gumbo. Both were amazing!!! The duck was crispy and not greasy like every other duck dish I have had, making it the best I'd ever had. We both cleared out plates and have been talking about this place, since! We agreed to come back and try everything on the menu. Our waitress was lovely and the chef, even, came out to check on everybody and how they were enjoying their meals. It was an all around groovy vibe. We SHALL be back!!! read more

Sooo, a little fun fact here is that the two owners "Smoke" and "Spice" were competitors in providing pit BBQ's for their respective frats during college, Smoke at Eastern Washington and Spice at UW. As they cooked for their functions, they heard about each other and it grew into a friendly competition on who could cook the best food. When someone eventually brought up the idea that they should join forces and open a restaurant together, they became partners and Grann Restaurant is the result. This is a short version of their history that Smoke told us as we waited for our table. I am sure that there is much more to be told and rest assured, I will be back to hear more. The food is flat out amazing and unlike anything I have eaten in the past. Oh, one other fact is they are currently on the show Pit Masters that aired earlier this summer. Back to the food, the flavors are delightful and complex and reading the menu is intriguing, trying to decipher how each item will taste. For the record, the Turkey Leg Curry killed it and I hate curry. Never tasted curry that I have enjoyed, but this one I would have again and again. The four of us shared our dishes, so we had the opportunity taste several different dishes. Highly recommend, but I did not share much of my chicken thighs! To top it off, we shared the Pear Pound Cake. Great finish to an awesome evening. Oh, and every member of the staff we encountered really seemed to be happy and invested in our experience being a memorable one. Finally, they told us that the menu is completely revamped every 4 months and had just been changed, so I will need to go there at least once more before the menu changes. read more

My brother recommended we try this spot out. He's friends with the owners and chef. It's located in Tacoma, in the hot spot off 6th, amidst other popular restaurants, especially for a weekend. Parking is tough but the parking in front of the bank next to Asado's is a $5 fee and a short walk away. It was buzzing as soon as we walked in. The seating is one where you are seated close, next to others. Family style. Helps with meeting new people. They are the bar height tables which I'm not a fan of because I'm short. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Once the food came out, we were ready. We had the coconut greens. They were tender and flavorful it was different from what I'm familiar to but delicious nonetheless. Next were the green bean pakoras. I loved it. My only thing is that there was so much batter it almost overtook the beans. The beef kabobs were DELISH, tender and flavorful. For entrees, we decided to share because that was a lot of food. Lamb chops was the entree of choice. It came with cheesy grits. The grits were a bit watery for me but the flavors were amazing. I love their seasonal menus they come out with. Gives me a reason to come back. It was a great pre funk to our comedy date night. We shall return. Thank you Grann restaurant (Jacob and Denzel) read more

Grann is THE spot. Whether it's date night or a double date, this place absolutely delivers. The food, atmosphere, and service were all incredible. Honestly, it's the kind of experience you hope for when you go out to eat, but Grann somehow exceeded even those expectations. Not only was the food insanely good, but the owner was personally running food, checking on tables, and making sure everyone was happy with their meal. You can tell they genuinely care about the experience they're creating. This place is something special. I honestly hope they expand into a bigger location one day because they deserve it. Grann is a very trendy spot, it has an open kitchen concept and a large communal table that runs the center of the restaurant. They play loud music and it has a general atmosphere of a cocktail/ boozy dinner spot. The menu rotates seasonally, it is a mix of American and Indian cuisine. We really like the Rogan Josh and the collard greens. The cauliflower dish we tried was fairly bland and I wouldn't order it again. I really liked the espresso tonic, as far as I know this is the only spot in Tacoma that offers them ( if you know of another spot message me and let me know!). I thought the service here was very friendly and we enjoyed our experience. The food was relatively quick to come out. The music was a little too loud for what I want in a restaurant but I think that's more about my preference and a lot of people would like that. read more

What a wonderful restaurant in our city. The food here is incredible, and it is an honor to have something that stands out in culinary taste and presentation in Tacoma. As sad as I am that the table has been replaced, something great has started its journey and is continuing to shine in the community. We went here for our book club meeting, and dinner was impeccable. I ordered the Mac and cheese, butter chicken agnolotti, bbq fish, baked beans, and greens. When I took my first bite of the greens I was very moved and had an emotional memory, there is a connection I felt when I ate that dish with my own godfather's famous greens. That's for another story, but we loved the baked beans- so flavorful and delicious. Our main dishes were a 11/10. I cannot wait to come back to this restaurant, chef you outdid yourself! Grann, what a great vibe. My wife and I were there , Friday for my birthday. I couldn't be more thankful. I sat facing the kitchen so I could see the work flow. My goodness what a well oiled machine. Everyone was working their tails off and it showed. Ther service was spot on, and lets talk about the food. We tried a bit of everything. We started with the beef kabobs which were epic. We also tried a cornbread which is probably the best I've ever had, the lamb chops which were the absolute star at dinne. We also tried the chicken, the steak, and a couple cocktails. We were lucky enough to meet Denzel and apparently the chicken was his mother's recipe. Absolutely incredible. I told him at the time that I had two incredible compliments for the food. One, nothing tastes like The Grann. They completely have their own flavor profile and their own thing going. Secondly, the food was so good. I wanted to take it home so I can have privacy with it. Lol I wish I'd taken more photos but we were just enjoying the moment and the people. Shout out to our server, Rachel. She was funny, sweet, and Incredibly informative. She's a pro. Denzel. What a great guy, an incredible business owner, and truly an asset to the community. I'll finish by saying, what a wonderful experience and I can't wait till July when they flip the menu. We had a great time meeting up with friends and meeting the owner! All the servers and hosts were great and the ambiance is very lively (loud but not in a bad way). I wasn't a huge fan of the food, however, as maybe I had high expectations after looking at the fusion of flavors and was just imagining something different. It's not that the food wasn't good, it was great! But I didn't feel there was anything special from the Indian flavor profile. For example, the beef biryani had tiny bits of shredded beef, the Mac n cheese tasted like a good regular Mac without the Indian twist, the gulab juman beignets tasted like normal traditional flavors instead of the Indian sweet it was described to taste like. The drinks were ok. Non-alcoholic Mango lassi was watered down, the tamarind cocktail had no tamarind taste at all... Overall, it's a great place and wonderful service! But I personally wouldn't go again for the food. read more

Try this place! I really enjoyed the new innovative concept of Southern and Indian fusion cuisine! Pros: the freaking smoked beef biriyani - has me thinking and dreaming and wanting to come back just to order that there and for take out. I'll take a whole skillet of this many times over! Wow! So so so good! I also enjoyed their Old Grann cocktail - play off of an old fashion. I had 3 drinks and this was by far my fave. It packed the right punch! Also had the Piri pimento cheese balls and omg yuuuuum although they looked fried- so light and airy and had a salty and savory taste with relish to give you a nice finish! Loooove! Cons: customer service was not the best. I got there early and was told to wait outside in the heat. They seemed a little disoriented but maybe because they are still new. Not all the food and drinks were great. I also asked if can sit at a regular table (no one was there) but they were all reserved. As the evening went on, one table looked open but we were not given the option. I understand that it's hard to balance. Overall- please go! This is an establishment that I hope will stay and I will try more dishes and drinks soon!!!! read more

My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience at Grann. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and outstanding service. Every bite reminded me why good home-style cooking will never go out of style. You can tell real pride and passion goes into everything they serve. Great service, atmosphere, food and drinks!. We ordered the BBQ hen, the hot link sandwich and got to try the bbq ribs too. They were all fantastic. Normal portions. Except the BBQ ribs which were massive. Next time I'd order those as an appetizer for a group lol. The dessert however.. wasn't bad per say. We had the chocolate cake. It was unexpected taste wise in a great way and loved it with the caramel sauce and ice cream. The problem was it had been over mixed I'm guessing so it was incredibly dense and super dry. The moment we finished the ice cream there was no finishing that cake. Anyway we'll still go back and hopefully it'll be amazing from start to end ;) read more

Food quality: very good and unique flavor combinations. I unfortunately just did not enjoy the flavor combinations. I would say this was a personal taste preference and nothing to do with their cooking or menu design. Service: very good! They were very patient and attentive. Atmosphere: we went on a Friday night. So it was very packed. Extremely loud. You would be yelling across the table to talk to your friend. Kind of felt like a circus being surrounded and constantly having lots of movement and noises. The design of the restaurant made it feel like noise echoed loudly and sounds bounced around. Notes: I honestly think it's just a personal preference, I think many other people would've 100% loved the food and environment. I would say if you want to go somewhere to have good conversation and don't want to feel overwhelmed by this environment maybe don't go on a weekend night. read more

The Grann restaurant has to be my favorite restaurant in Tacoma right now and we've been trying to check out a new restaurant every week. We started with the cocktails, which were delicious. Then, we got the cornbread first and it was out of this world. It really could be a dessert. I loved the pairing of the butter with the cornbread too. We got the carrots next, which the chef also knocked out of the park. Lastly we got the yakamein, which we couldn't stop eating. It seemed so simple with the braised beef and noodles, but also so amazing. Once we get through our restaurant tour of Tacoma, I'm definitely coming back here. read more

TLDR- 5 stars for the food, flavors, ambiance and service. Grann is a vibe! Grann is the latest addition to 6th avenue and it was worth the wait. I have been waiting for their open for months. They are in their soft opening and this is the best soft opening I have been to ever. We ordered a bunch of items to share and each one was an experience- the layers of flavors they have incorporated into each dish is next level. The mix of soul food & Indian doesn't sound like it would blend nearly as seamlessly as it does. We had the masala mac and cheese, the fried chicken skins, smoked beef biryani and the gulab jamun beignets (yes you read that right) and they are all amazing & I would order them again (but first I have to order the rest of the money). The music selection was great and the staff and owners were a delight. I honestly cannot wait to eat here again and again. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect walking into Grann -- the description said Cajun/Creole, Barbecue, and Indian, which sounded a little all over the map. But the owner explained that they rotate their menus seasonally to reflect their team's diverse backgrounds -- and eventually plan to feature all the fan favorites together. We happened to visit on Cajun/Creole night, and let me tell you... it felt like we'd been transported straight to New Orleans. We started with the Sweet Potato Cornbread and the Artichoke Puri Puri. As a self-proclaimed cornbread aficionado, I can confidently say this was some of the best I've ever had. They experiment with different cornbread flavors from time to time, so I can't wait to go back and see what combo they dream up next. The Puri Puri was beautifully presented -- a crisp, delicate shell filled with a cold, creamy artichoke dip that somehow managed to feel both homey and upscale. For entrées, my husband ordered the Half Chicken with mashed potatoes, and the seasoning was absolutely phenomenal -- perfectly balanced and deeply flavorful. I had the Crawfish Risotto, which is tricky to pull off well, but they nailed it. The texture was spot-on, and it had all the rich flavor without any of that overly "fishy" taste some seafood dishes have. The only miss for me was the Plantain Crème Brûlée. The flavor was great, but it didn't quite set -- more like pudding than a true crème brûlée. Still tasty, just not what you expect when you crack that top layer. One quick note about the seating: there's a long communal table in the center (a leftover from the previous restaurant) where you might find yourself elbow-to-elbow with strangers. Some people love that "family-style" vibe, but if you're after a private dinner, I'd recommend requesting a separate table when you make your reservation. Overall, though -- Grann absolutely deserves five stars. The food, the atmosphere, and especially the passion from the owner make this place truly unique. read more

Beautifully redecorated from its time from being the Table restaurant but still cozy with tables on one side of a long narrow space, a bar with food prep area opposite, and long communal table in the middle. Still cozy and welcoming. The menu changes seasonally but the waitperson said that the collard greens and cornbread will stay--they will just be different. The collard greens were so savory (we could not believe they were vegetarian). We drank the broth remaining. The beans and rice were good but nothing special. It was a good base for the meal. We also had cornbread that was like dessert--sitting in a pool of honey and with crispy edges. These items were listed as appetizers but were really sides in our opinion. The fish was breaded and fried but not with a thick batter coating (but not light like tempura either), just right and very moist. Grits were also really flavorful. The dish should have been served with a spoon (so we asked for one) and it would have benefited from a bland bread to sop up all the goodness. Three "appetizers" and one main left us full and happy. We wanted to try the desserts but were too full. Very reasonably priced. Need to come again. Not much available for vegetarians though. read more
