I didn't even add in any Sriracha or sauce because it was so dang flavorful. Not only that, we ordered two spring rolls, one with just shrimp and the other with everything (ham, etc) for me since my sister is a pescatarian. They were kind enough to give us separate peanut sauce bowls without us even asking. Went here a lot when I was a little boy but wanted to try it out again as a man. I was super hungover and my go to spot "Pho Saigon House" was closed so I went here to cure myself. I got a large Pho Dac Biet and it did not disappoint! Right off the bat I already notice that they pack the bowl with a lot of protein which I love. Okay this is one of my favorite Pho places. I prefer shrimp Pho with extra vegetables. I like that they offer this option. Most places don't and when I ask for more vegetables I sometimes get a sour look. I don't mind paying for more vegetables. I like the medium dish as most large Pho bowls are too much. The prices and value is reasonable. They offer all the extras that I like. The broth is perfect. That's the key to a good Pho. The place is clean and neat. Plenty of parking. So very very disappointed. I love pho 38 its been my go to place whenever I'm in tacoma to get good pho. Today I made the mistake of trying something different. Who doesn't love thai curry? I know I do and I was craving something savory sweet and spicy. So I bypassed my usual #17 order of pho and ordered the green curry. My husband ordered the yellow curry *not pictured. I was shocked when it came at the huge serving or rice and curry that seemed to be the exact same as what my husband ordered. Taste was bland, not spicy at all despite being warned beforehand and opting for medium spice. This wasn't a curry it was a soup extremely watery almost like a basic soup stock with a dash of curry powder. Nothing creamy/thick/or green in my case about it. I was dismayed to taste my husband's and them tasting the same. We also ordered appetizers. Gyoza and fried spring rolls.. the appetizers themselves were good however the spring roll dipping sauce had also been watered down.. Super good! My bf and I came in on a Saturday evening around 6:30-7 pm and it wasn't busy at all. Customer service was good and they were friendly and attentive. Restroom was messy. Their staff is definitely ready to get your order going. And did I say they have way too much on their menu? They have Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and American. We used to come here regularly. It was our Go-To phô place, then the food quality fell off. Dining room and service are competent: 1) Chairs seem to be refugees from an 80's design, with straight up backs - not that comfy! 2) Tables always seem just perfunctorily wiped, not spic-n-span like you'd hope. The phô was always pretty good then it slipped: ingredients-were not always fresh and the broth was very inconsistent. Then we gave it try earlier this year and the phô was great with fresh condiments. So we started coming again. Tonight though, the broth is so bland, even tons of soy sauce and condiments don't help. So far this place has to be one of thee if not the worst Pho I have ever had. It started off with bad service. I actually used half of the container that had the hot pepper paste and tons of Siracha. To be honest Ramen beef broth had this beat! It was supposed to have tendon, which I literally got tendon..One flippin piece! I have been here before and it was already at the bottom of my Pho picks but due to location we just came here... The absolute worst part though was the DEAD MOLDY FLIES EVERYWHERE!! Seriously? I know Asian joints are not the cleanest, but DEAD MOLDY FLIES, right next to where we were sitting?! I think not, and please don't try and pull that extra protein line! This place only legitimizes the fact that when you know somewhere that is great than take no substitutes, either go to the best or don't go at all.
