Today was Mother's Day and craved for an Asian meal: chicken teriyaki and fried rice. I decided to try the one with land and sea. I did not see many shrimp but it is a mixed blend of protein. Overall the food just sucks. Got the orange chicken and general tso bowl. Neither with distinguishable flavor. At first I thought they messed up on the general tso bowl thinking it might be something else as there is absolutely negligible heat, confused it with the orange chicken which has absolutely no orange zesty flavor. It's my first visit today and they are very welcoming, as well as, helpful. The nice lady at the front counter answered my questions and I appreciated that. I ended up ordering the two item combo and splitting it with my companion with spicy chicken teriyaki and honey garlic chicken. The portion sizes are good and the eating area is basic but comfortable. The funny experience I had was using the men's bathroom and not being able to get out. The backdoor was open while they unloaded supplies and the bathroom was blocked so I couldn't get out until whoeveŕ was inloading supplies let me out in a coudfple of minutes. He smiled when he opened the door after letting me out. The menu is large so I'll trylsomehing different the nect time I visit. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The Chinese takeout options really lack in Tacoma. My son wanted orange chicken and Joy Teriyaki had it on their menu. The place is unassuming outside but super cute and clean inside. Staff was really nice- everything looked like it was cooked fresh. My order was ready and we took it home. All the food was hot and packaged nicely. My husband loved his fried rice- we had to lay extra for his spicy Mayo which I thought was a bit much for a tiny cup you received. The orange chicken wasn't the best- the sauce is very fluorescent- almost unnatural in color. It was hot and crispy though. My California rolls didn't have cucumber in them- that's the best part. I used to go here years ago and it was awesome! I was in town recently and was craving some yakisoba so stopped in. It must have new owners who only cater to Uber eats etc.. there is no dining room anymore, just a window bar. You order from a kiosk, no in person interactions. And that would all be ok, except the food was awful. The yakisoba was so bland. No flavor at all. My grandson and I packed it up and took it the 1 1/2hr drive to my house so I could zuzh it up and make it edible. The crab Rangoon was inedible. It tasted spoiled. And it had a odd texture and taste like the imitation crab had gone bad. Needless to say I'll never be back. Amazing ! My best friend and I went here for fun and it did not disappoint. The lady that helped us (Eun Lee) was nice, patient and helpful! It was our first time here and she suggested a few things and they were sooooo delicious. We excepted the lobby to be small but it was surprisingly big. The music is nice and the bathroom was clean. This teriyaki spot I've been needing to go to and try. A mood of wanting teriyaki set a solid foot upon us a few weekends ago and so we headed over in the direction of Joy Teriyaki. I got the Spicy Chicken Bowl which was pretty tasty! Unfortunately moving to the Pacific Northwest and age I can't take spicy heat as well as I used to and this particular dish was slightly challenging but overall very good so not anything to really complain about other than my own capacity of what my stomach can handle. Walking in it is clean and nice decor. The girl at the counter was super friendly and helpful. And asked my son if he had his student ID to get a discount on his Boba. The breading was mushy. The rice was a small portion. The flavors were ok, but it was unbearably spicy.

I ordered veggie egg rolls through DoorDash. When I bit into them, they were shrimp. I have a severe shrimp allergy. I found out later that they wrote, not very noticeably, on the receipt that they were out of veggie and replaced them with shrimp. Shrimp is a well known allergen and should never be used as a substitution. And if they are going to do that, they need to make it VERY clear. I have been coming here for the last 6 months. The place is always clean and well put together. The owner and everyone in there are very nice and always attentive. The food is good and the establishment is all new and updated and the food is good, not unique or special as with the prior owners. Definitely nnot the value that it was with the prior owners, at all. Which is very sad because I've been loyal to Joy Teriyaki for so many, many years whe the the previous owners uncle owned it. The problem is that the quantity of food in less and the price is more and I mean more than other comparable teriyaki restaurants within a 10 mile radius. I've seen this place go through numerous iterations & decided to try the latest one, Joy teriyaki. I ordered the beef short rib bowl and a side of veggies. When I opened the side of veggies I discovered it was simply shredded cabbage and carrots, nothing green to speak of. I guess I should've known for the price but I do think this is a bit of false advertising. In addition the side of veggies was extremely salty I was able to only take about two bites and had to stop eating it. The beef short rib bowl also had similar of "veggies" and unfortunately the beef short ribs were extremely dry. This is unfortunate as a short ribs should be the one type of meat that should be tender. I may give this one more chance and try to order something different but this first go around was a huge disappointment read more

Tried this new location in UP because someone said that this place was being run by the original folks who owned Joy Teriyaki on 6th and Proctor PRIOR to the 2019 sell of the business. -I thought it was too good to be true, but I saw that all of the old readings and comments from the 6th Ave., Joy Teriyaki are now attached to this Bridgeport location, and that these guys offered the same tofu options as the original Joy Teriyaki did. I'm still not sure what the situation with ownership is, But my experience dining here was lackluster at best. I don't think they cooked the tofu in the sauce at all, but instead poured it over at the last minute. All, and I mean all of the sauce was soaked into the rice. And the sauce was not very sick at all, and had half of the seasoning, if that, that the sauce should have. A real bummer! There are so few places that offer good tofu options. I was quite disappointed to find out that this is what they had to offer. Others in our party ordered eggrolls, crab Rangoon, teriyaki chicken and teriyaki tonkatsu. They thought that the sauce or the tonkatsu tasted really weird, but the teriyaki was just fine. Apparently no crab of any sort could be found in the wontons, just cream cheese. The eggrolls were also reportedly "meh". Altogether not really worth our time. Chicken teriyaki seems just fine though! On a sidenote, I think it is very misleading to attach Reviews from a no longer existing restaurant to this one. If you're excited about this spot because of the reviews in photos, be sure to look at the dates they were posted. If you sort by "newest" you'll see all the reviews are terrible. read more

Tofu teriyaki has 3 things, rice, tofu and the sauce. Why would I order tofu terriaki without the teriyaki sauce? It's gross and dry. I'm a sauce person, if I wasn't I wouldn't be ordering this. Next time if your store is out of sauce, call or cancel. I ordered through doordash, which said I don't even qualify for a discount. I am getting tired of doordash always messing up like this. I have been on a diet for a week now, a veggie and grains like brown rice or lentils, and I broke it. I wanted a good tofu teriyaki for a first week, then back on tomorrow. First day eating real food and that is what I get. That is 1/3 of the meal and the sauce is what makes it. I can cook rice at home for 2 cents. Sorry for my rant, but I'm pissed. They have new owners and things have really gone downhill. Service is slow, some of my favorite dishes have been remade and don't taste as good. Before we could switch out rice for steamed veggies since my wife is doing Keto, but now they charge extra for it and it is an add on and they give you the rice anyway. Terrible customer services. You definitely get what you pay for, the food that's it. We were treated like they didn't want customers, which I understand when your busy. We were asked to leave due to how many people were in the building which is fine, the way she asked was very disrespectful. But we couldn't even purchase what we wanted, we asked if they sold drinks and she told us no when there was a fridge of bottled drinks behind her. She snatched my boyfriend's card out of his hand to pay for the one item we had told her before we were finished. Then asked if that was everything. They sent us some meals they pulled out of the freezer and heated up in the microwave, we even had to pull the plastic wrapper off.
