We placed an order for takeout on Friday around 6pm. The place was slammed at 6:30 when I went in to pick up our food but the staff seemed to have everything under control. I've never eaten here before so that was great to see. I did note that it is extremely loud in the restaurant with tall ceilings and hard surfaces everywhere. We will not be able to go here with my father in law due to his hearing problems and how loud it is there. That's okay, we can get takeout. We ordered grilled shrimp dinner, chicken picatta and I ordered a few side dishes to have a veggie plate. We also had an order of garlic bread. (I love when restaurants offer a low cost appetizer option. It's expensive for them to give free bread, so I have no problem paying a few dollars to have bread while waiting for food.) Rave reviews for the shrimp and kale salad. The chicken picatta was a little tough and my mashed potato side was a bit greasy with cheese. I will likely skip the mashed potatoes next time because I try to eat healthier and those are definitely a splurge. I am SO THANKFUL to find a restaurant in the area that has healthy food options at reasonable prices. My impression of the food is that they aren't trying to recreate the wheel and be fancy. They seem to be trying to simply do good, quality food WELL and that is exactly what I like. We will be back. read more

I'm not sure if there is a new owner, but this used to be called Fresh Chef Kitchen and was six doors down (not five). The menu is the same and you can order lunch items during dinner, which is appreciated and not greedy. The food was solid, but the fries weren't as crispy as usual and my wrap came out half correct and half incorrect (half with dressing I didn't want). This could indicate disorganization in the kitchen, but they gave me a full new wrap (correct version) at no extra charge, which was generous. The service was pretty good and the atmosphere was cool. The old location got a little tight but it also had charm with the kitchen out in the open--made it unique. Next time I will try Chicken Parmesan and then eat the brownie/ice cream/whip cream thing. I think they're just going through moving process and getting situated. Last night was good, but it's usually great. I think/hope it will be great again. read more

Four GFs and I went to Fresh Chef Kitchen (Matthews) last night for a birthday dinner. Now I had never been but the pics of the food that came up on Google looked delicious. Upon our arrival, we were promptly greeted by the hostessES and not too long afterwards, the manager came to check on us. Her name was Frankie and she even asked if we were celebrating anything. We let her know it was our GF's birthday. She asked her favorite drink and told us she'd have it just as soon as she arrived and was seated. After being seated, a young man came to take our drink orders as the birthday girl hadn't arrived yet. Shortly thereafter, they were bringing them out. Then our waitress Emily (Frankie's sweet and beautiful daughter) came to introduce herself and that's when the magic happened! The staff was sooooo attentive and made sure we had ANYTHING we needed expeditiously! I'd ordered a dirty martini with extra olives and each time I asked for more olives, they didn't hesitate to bring them. I ordered the Black and Bleu Ribeye cooked medium, asparagus and substituted the other side for a house salad and it was EXTREMELY delicious and cooked JUST right. The cook's hands must've been blessed by the Lord! I can't remember the last time I had a ribeye cooked and seasoned to perfection like that...but I know where I'll be to get another when I want! Halfway through dinner, another waitress came over with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, stating that the large party seated not too far from us sent it over for our celebration. We waved and thanked them and enjoyed the bottle. After dinner they came over and we talked and laughed with them too. Upon us leaving, we'd thanked everyone as they were truly welcoming, friendly, attentive and kind souls. I was throughly impressed as I have had good service, but I don't think I've ever had AMAZING service! Please go out and see for yourself, I promise you won't be disappointed. This review encompasses our experience with this restaurant over the past year since we moved to Mint Hill and our most recent visit. Honestly the food isn't anything special. We've eaten in the restaurant, but most of our orders have been taken out at lunch. We have continued to order from here purely due to the lack of non fast food options in this area. Our standard order is this. One Caesar salad with chicken- occasionally we order this made with the dressing on the side and also an extra dressing. One Caesar salad made with Kale (menu states than any salad can substitute Kale) with dressing on the side and also extra dressing. That's it. That's the order. We have ordered from here more than 20 times in the past year and these people manage to mess this order up more than half the time (no exaggeration in this statement), especially the one made with Kale. So much so, that recently my wife stopped ordering the kale and just asked for the regular Caesar salad with dressing the side to make it easier on them to get right. No such luck. Today was the last straw. They messed it up again and were rude on top of it. As soon as my wife hung up the phone after placing the order she texted me saying she had zero faith that they took the order correctly and so when I walked in I immediately asked them to make sure it was being made the correct way. Nope. And when I asked them to remake it, they blamed us. They make the same mistake every time and yet somehow it's our fault. Hopefully this place will hurry up and shut down so it can be replaced with something else that serves something other than bar or fast food. read more

My husband and I ate at this location last Thursday evening. Upon entering the restaurant we see 3 servers just standing around talking, so we thought we'd be greeted right away. It took 7 minutes before a server even came over to get our drink order. The manager (young lady with dark brown hair, Kaitlyn) just hung out at the hostess stand oblivious to anything going on in the restaurant. When our food arrived it was wrong, so we had to send that back to have it fixed. Not once did the manager ever come over to check on us. Normally at restaurants the managers will circulate the floor making sure their customers are taken care of, sadly, the young lady who was managing that night cared more about goofing off at the hostess stand than making sure the customers were satisfied. THIS IS AN UPDATE TO MY REVIEW FROM 4 WEEKS AGO: Shortly after I posted my review, I was contacted by the manager of Fresh Chef to discuss my issues in more detail. Frankie was very nice agreed that our experience with both service and food was below par and wanted an opportunity to make things right. Thusly, she sent me a gift certificate and asked that I try them again after the relocation from Idlewild to Stevens Mill. Today my same friend who was at the original lunch and I gave it a try. It was like night and day from our previous visit. To be fair I ordered the exact same sandwich (chicken salad on croissant and it was delish, role was soft and salad was great). My Wife and I were back in Charlotte area and took our Oldest Daughter out to Fresh Chef in Matthews off of Stephens Mill Road. My Daughter and I had the fillet, and my Wife had salmon. The food was outstanding and the staff was absolutely wonderful. We will definitely be back. One humorous note. I had a pretty simple take out order which consisted of French fries and a key lime pie for later. Fries were a greasy, soggy mess and the pie came in this gross, beat up take out box. Definitely wouldn't recommend and the service was terrible for such a simple order. read more

Today was our first visit. From the moment the door opened, the staff were warm and inviting. They made us feel like there was no one else in the restaurant but us. The manager came and checked on us several times, we didnt have an empty glass or forgotten request. The food was delicious, and not overcooked. We also had the spinach and artichoke dip that was so good, we ordered a second one. Even my picky 2 year old ate it and he despises vegetables. The lighting made it it soft and quant, perfect for a date nite, or a meal with family and friends We throughly enjoyed our meals and cannot wait to come back!! read more

Large portions and quick service. Clean bathrooms. I got carry out here and the owner greeted me at the door. Friendly man. They had just opened that month near my doctors office and I got breakfast. Pancakes were huge, omelette very satisfying. The sit down crowd is mostly senior and middle-aged conservative local people, and there wasn't any diversity in the staff or customers like at other diners in Charlotte area. Dining room was 100% full. The vibe I got was if a large group of ethnic minority people asked to be seated, it would perhaps make the current conservative clientele uncomfortable. I know this because it's our reality and just a notice to certain people who might want to eat here who aren't members of the conservative groups. It's good to know the environment ahead of time to discern if you might receive good service or if you're in a relaxed welcoming place. I am rating the environment, staff, and the food. The food was excellent but prices are higher than Metro Diner or Sunshine Cafe. $13+ for breakfast and side dishes under $10. I paid $48 for breakfast for family of 3 and tipped $6 for my carry out order the very nice server handed me. Will be back to sit down and enjoy. read more

My wife ordered the salmon wrap which she loved. I ordered the mushroom and provolone burger cooked medium. It was delicious as were the fries. Fresh shoestring fries cooked perfectly. The waitress did a good job checking a few times to see if we needed anything. I would have given a 4 but since we missed the little notice by the door handle on the entrance stating you could save by paying cash, we were charged a fee of 3.5% for using a credit card to pay. They have every right to charge the fee but the end of our experience here would have much better with a better notice. The table beside was none to happy with the fee either. Luckily for them he had cash and had the charge cancelled and paid with cash. Hopefully one day restaurants will learn that it's much better to be as transparent as possible about fees and up charges than ticking the customer off at the end and ruining the experience. read more

Since they have moved to Stevens Mill the food has been consistent and is excellent. Most of the wait staff are good. There's one waitress with braces that should be avoided. She doesn't come back to check on the tables and when she is there she's very distracted by other staff. It's annoying. Otherwise the staff are nice & jump in to pick up her slack. I do recommend it. I love this place! I eat here once a week. I'm new to Charlotte and staying in an Airbnb with no kitchen until I move into my apartment. Fresh Chef is a good value price wise and the food is sooo good. The best part - they're pretty consistent! My fav thing is that if I add a little note (ex: sauce on side) they always honor it. Those little things go a long way as far as customer service goes. My fav is the Hawaiian chicken anything. LoL. Highly recommend! read more

Sanitation grade of 96.5? Wow- need to work on that , guys! Concept of "fresh" is great but sanitation grade is extremely important- especially in this age of covid.. Friendliness is great but it isn't going to matter if I wake up in the night with stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. ( speaking from experience, unfortunately... Despite the glowing reviews garnered by this fairly new restaurant star, I was a bit concerned after we were seated beside a cheerful women's group of at least two dozen red-hatted fashionistas who had just begun to order. I just accepted the fact that we would be in for quite a long wait. My concern, however, proved unfounded as we were provided fast and attentive service for the duration of our Saturday lunch. Although all somewhat young, the wait staff's courtesy and enthusiasm easily compensated for any lack of experience. Our primary server Emily was absolutely delightful and offered to bring samples of their specialties which included both kale and chicken salads. (Both were delicious, by the way.) She also explained that everything served there was absolutely fresh, so much so that the only thing they stored in their freezers was ice cream. The menu is loaded with a variety of excellent options headined by wraps and salads. Two of us went with the Hawaiian Chicken with Cilantro Rice for $11. Mine was prepared perfectly but my friend's was a bit dry. Topped with a slice of fresh, grilled pineapple, we both really enjoyed it though. The cilantro rice was aromatic and the perfect accompaniment. My wife got the black and bleu salad, which is filet mignon over mixed greens with bleu cheese. It was very fresh and tasty especially the bleu cheese itself and the made-in-house salad dressing. She ordered it medium but it arrived closer to medium-well, but she said she'd order it again. The dining area surrounds a gorgeous, well appointed bar area. Both are very comfortable. The entire place was immaculate and had a sanitation score of 97. Great food!!!! Such good quality food! Went for dinner last night. This is our 2nd visit. Food was great as the first. My grilled chicken sandwich with pineapple was so juicy and flavorful. Fries are the best! Kale salad that comes with the sandwich is so fresh , peppery, and light. Great way to balance out your meal. My husband had the Cajun trout topped with shrimp, and cilantro rice and asparagus. He said it was so good. We would recommend both dishes to anyone! Probably the most important thing that delighted me was the wonderful service. We experienced great service. Our son had a mishap and they were so caring and accommodating! I ordered takeout from here. While the service for curbside was fast the food was not worth the price. I ordered the teriyaki filet, Medium rare. Instead I got something closer to medium well. I could not taste the teriyaki at all because it was so charred on the outside. This is not the first time I have had this steak and every time before, it was juicy and tender with an amazing teriyaki flavor. I am very disappointed. read more
