First off, this is my go to for lunch. There is plenty of parking here. I've never had an issue getting a table Even at lunchtime. I normally make reservations just to be on the safe side. I prefer a booth and I normally am able to get one. The staff meeting you at the door are always nice and friendly. They will seat you immediately. the waitstaff here are pretty awesome. The scene here is a little dark and moody and this is what I love about this restaurant... Very Dramatic! Now Food ‼ So, if this is your first time and you want to keep it light, I highly recommend the cob salad! This is the best salad because of the homemade croutons! The serving is pretty large and the dressings our house made and every single one of them are great. My favorite would be the Thai dressing, if I had to pick. I've also tried the burger and it is extremely HUGE and flavorful. You may not be able to eat it all in one setting. I've also had the blackened salmon with the pasta and it was perfectly cooked. I get mine at medium rare. TIMING~ The servants come out pretty fast. By the time you've had your first drink the food is already coming out. This is my honest review as I have been coming here for the past decade and I've never had an issue. You will be pleased. This is also the perfect spot for a first date, business meeting, anniversary and also a birthday.. P.S. Another reason why I am drawn to this particular location, is that 131 Main has maintained a clean place to eat. My number one pet peeve is a messy bathroom. Nice ambiance. Service was good, it did take a minute for them to come to the table a few times but otherwise the waitresses were friendly. We ordered the cheeseburgers. They come with shoestring fries. The burger is big and all the toppings really come together to make a flavorful burger. It has mayo mustard lettuce onions pickles and tomato. We also had the cornbread skillet and it was sweet and moist. The honey was a great touch. read more

Crab cakes were much better in comparison- but glad we substituted fries or the dish would have been too heavy. Banana cream pie dessert was great- next level would have been with a banana foster twist to the fresh banana, but the crust was perfect! Ambiance: (A) comfortable but louder than expected. Came here for dinner on a friday night. Had about a 40 minute wait without a reservation but that was expected. Once seated, our waiter was very nice and gave us a run down of the specials of the day. The menu had a little bit of everything. My family and i all enjoyed our meals. OK, I'm just gonna say it. 131 Main in Ballantyne is the best restaurant in the Charlotte suburbs, in my opinion. Of all the restaurants I've gone to they have consistently served outstanding food with incredible service, low light, classy ambience, great drinks.. I have never had a mediocre meal in this place. Can I rate a place 4.5 stars? 131 was a great experience overall, but it wasn't until I got the check that I got a bit of disappointment- a bit of deception that makes me hesitant to return. And it's not the ambience. The place is beautiful on the inside. It seems wildly popular. Nice, cozy, intimate. A great place to take a date. Perhaps. And it's not the service. The wait staff did a great job with its duties - from describing the items on the menu to keeping up with refills to clearing empty plates. And it's not the food. The rainbow trout I ordered was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I don't know if I've ever eaten a better fish entree. So what then was the problem? One small deception. Not wanting the kale salad that the menu mentions as the side for the entree, I asked if I could substitute another side for it. "Absolutely!" my waiter responded confidently. All was good in the world at that point, right? Then the check arrived and I discovered I was being charged $2 extra for subbing the side dish. The waiter never mentioned it. The menu didn't mention an upcharge for making a substitute. Nothing. Anyhoo, I paid it. Everything else was top notch. However, trust is an important thing for me. And even in this seemingly small issue, I would have pause before considering returning. read more

131 was fantastic from beginning to end. Let's start with the service. Top notch from the time we sat till we left. Didn't wait long to order, server was attentive and consistently made sure things were going well. I decided to try the Rainbow Trout and substituted the kale and quinoa salad for white cheddar grits. The food arrived quickly and it was great. Fish was cooked well. Pulled easily from the skin yet was firm. Very well cooked and seasoned perfectly. The grits were also cooked well and very tasty. All in all...no complaints. So went we went for my ladies birthday on Tuesday the 21st , we had a reservation ... it was packed, From the moment we walked in , to when we were seated , treated so wonderfully. Shea( spelling) was so fun and professional. Tuesday 1/2 Off a bottle of wine, winning!! We ordered a Malback( sp) was delish. The room was romantic yet still lively which led to a classy, fun, romantic evening. We had the tuna appetizer, which was fab. We both had the Rainbow trout, grilled and seasoned to perfection. Hers came with fries( thin and crispy) mine came with a kale and quinoa salad( refreshing) Shea, shi was observant but not overly hanging around. The waitresses remembered it was me ladies Birthday and offered her a complimentary dessert she chose fresh shortcake with strawberries and real vanilla ice cream.. I forgot to mention that everything is fresh no freezers in the building very little refrigeration. Everything is fresh priced moderately before a special occasion. Well worth it. We went here for our anniversary and the service was great our server Nathaniel was very pleasant and attentive. The ambiance was nice and chill. We went on a Monday night. The food was good we got the corn bread for an appetizer and it came with honey. I got the ribs and it came with 2 sides. I got the asparagus and deviled eggs for the sides. My Fiance got the crab cake and it came with one side and he got the deviled eggs. He enjoyed his crab crake. He said everything f was seasoned very well. My rack of ribs were nice and tender. It had been a little while since dining here. I was in the mood for a Veggie Burger, in fact, the BEST VEGGIE BURGER EVER! Which comes with Kale and Quinoa Salad. My wife had the Lightly Blackened Halibut Tacos. As always the Service is OVER THE TOP! When my I Iced Tea glass was nearly empty, a fresh one magically appeared. My only issue with 131 Main, and almost every other restaurant we dine at, is the cost of Iced Tea and Coffee. Yes the cost has increased but to charge $3.50 for a glass of Iced Tea is ridiculous. Many of the restaurants we eat at, especially at lunch, do not charge for it. I'm sure that at $1.25 for Iced Tea you'd still be profitable. Just my take on what I feel is an OVERCHARGE. read more

We celebrated my birthday alongside my daughter and son-in-law's 1st wedding anniversary, and 131 Main did not disappoint! All four of us started with the grilled artichoke...a must-order. Charred just right, tender, and full of flavor. Absolutely delicious! I had the filet mignon...cooked to perfection and melt-in-your-mouth good. My husband loved his prime rib sandwich, packed with flavor. My daughter, a loyal fan of their shrimp & grits, was in heaven. Her husband had the grilled chicken pasta and polished off every bite. Our server was friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. We requested our favorite table in the back, and they made it happen without a hitch. We were surprised how busy it was for a 4pm reservation, but it didn't affect the quality or atmosphere at all. Cozy, bustling, and still relaxed. Went to this restaurant last night with friends and family. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance. I had the ribeye steak, potatoes and chopped salad. The ribeye though not the best was still good. What I really enjoyed was the number of Elton John songs the restaurant played, now that was nice. My wife got the boneless red snapper and my daughter got the steak medallion meal with potatoes. Certainly a nice place to eat and when I come back to the Charlotte area, we will go back. read more

We arrived a little early and were seated right away. Our server, Shay, was lovely from the start and immediately set the tone for the evening. We began with cocktails, which were beautifully done, and moved on to our usual favorites. I ordered the trout with the creamy cheddar grits, which were as good as ever--rich, comforting, and perfectly executed. My husband tried something new: the pineapple‑ and soy‑marinated steak, which was flavorful and very well prepared. The 131 Main salad deserves its own mention. That creamy garlic dressing is outstanding, and the croutons are perfect. It's the kind of salad you'd happily order any time, any day. When I asked for a glass of Chardonnay, they offered to let me taste two options, which I really appreciated--and I ended up choosing the one I didn't expect. The sommelier even stopped by to talk us through the wines, which felt thoughtful without being overbearing. We finished with the banana pie, which ended up being the one miss of the night--pleasant, but a little bland for our taste. Shay was so gracious that we didn't even consider changing it; we simply took it home for our son to try. The whole experience reminded me of watching Gordon Ramsay talk about restaurants that run like well‑oiled machines. Everyone here seems to know their role, care about the details, and genuinely enjoy what they do. Back again and happy to be here. It was Wednesday so wine was half off a bottle. Excellent service and they have finally stopped the buss people from snatching plates as soon a plate is finished. Used to be that slow eaters found themselves eating while the rest of the party sat waiting. Grilled artichokes, always good to split with wife $16. Thai steak salad, large one $28. Two additional Caesar salads $8 each. Shrimp and grits $29. A monster of a double pork chop, done perfectly and not dry $32. Maryland Style Crab Cakes $46 and they were WONDERFUL. Hunks of crab barely held together with breading. Have not had them as good since being in Philly and Baltimore. A very fine place to bring a family or a few couples together for a meal. I was there yesterday for Easter. Service is always top notch but I don't think I'll ever go back. I ordered the grilled creamy chicken pasta with cajun seasoning and it was horrible. Too much black pepper - like full size peppercorns. The dish had about 2 ounces of dark meat (NOT GRILLED) chicken, a small amount of raw broccoli and red peppers. The flavors did not blend well at all. At $30, this item was probably the worst thing I've eaten out anywhere and I eat out a few times every week. I want to like this restaurant but the menu is not for me. I keep going back and trying different items because they are close to home, but the flavor combinations and sides just don't work for me. We went to 131 in South Park. I hadn't been to this location before. They have 3 locations that I'm aware of Blakeney, Huntersville( super nice and small) South Park. This location was very nice. Reservations highly recommended. All locations have outdoor fire pits . We ordered two filets cooked to perfection. One of our party got a prime rib sandwich. We were celebrating my son Xan's 21 birthday ! Our server was wonderful recommending drinks. They have a nice bar with TV's about 1/3 as large as Blakeney . Our sides were cheese grits and fries.
