At the time of this one star rating my friend, two lovely sisters we met at the martini paring and myself were being detained at the restaurant by the manager Sheila Hochstetler. We were accused of stealing a bottle of liquor. She and another employee blocked the door and told us the police were on the way. We attempted to show her our purses and she refused to look. None of us had what we were accused of stealing in our bags or on our person. She insisted and said "one of the 4 of you are on camera taking the bottle". We asked if that's the case, who? Which one of us? She refused. We waited for the police in order to vindicate ourselves. During this time, a male employee got in one of our faces, hands raised, yelling and aggressively using racial slurs. The manager defended HIM. Other employees then again accused us of stealing and said we are on camera. Once the police came, they said you can't tell who it is on camera. After we finished dinner, we went to the bar and ordered a drink. We sat and talked and then proceeded to leave. Who steals and then sits there and PAYS for more drinks? We each had a purse and a carry out bag with the rest of the main course. Imagine a small side salad sized container with a piece of overcooked steak they had the nerve to serve us. I'm saying this to say it is a very lightweight takeout bag and none of our purses were big enough to hold a bottle of liquor. I will be updating this thread when I have more time to get ALL of the details out. This story WILL be told. I have never experienced trauma like this!!! I LOVE Bonefish Grill and was so sad when they closed all the locations up North. Now, whenever I am in NC, I have to stop in for some bang bang shrimp tacos! The flavor combo is like nothing I have ever had before; it's divine! Admittedly, I've been to probably 10 different Bonefish locations over 30 times total and that's the only menu item I have ever tried so I can really only speak about the tacos. Currently, there's a dinner promotion for just under $16, you get bread and oil on the table (unlimited), a small starter salad (house or Caesar), 3 substantial shrimp tacos, a side of fries, and a brownie for dessert. What a deal! It's so much food, I always take some home. The bang bang shrimp tastes just as good cold the next day! At this location, our server was just wonderful. She was very friendly, pleasant, and kept our water glasses filled the whole time. I wish I could recall her name to mention her specifically, but she was a younger girl I think with glasses. We arrived right around 6pm on a weeknight. We were told there was a 10 min wait so we sat outside on their comfy outdoor furniture. It was maybe 3 minutes before we were brought in to our table. Sadly, there is no outdoor dining at this location, but the dining room has very nice ambiance. Perfect for a birthday or special occasion, but also any old weeknight. I've been to this location before mid afternoon and sat with my laptop to do some work while I ate. Staff is always friendly and the food is consistent. I have been a long-time Bonefish Grill customer and have attended several special events at various locations without any issues, which makes this experience even more upsetting. I've even recommended the monthly dinner pairings to several friends and family members, encouraging them to join the mailing list because I genuinely enjoyed these events in the past. I am appalled at the service I received during this visit. My friend and I attended the Merry Martinis five-course, family-style dinner on 12/9/2025 at Bonefish Grill in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Pineville-Matthews Road. The managing partner, who was one of the hosts of the event, greeted guests and interacted with diners throughout the evening. We were seated at a community table, and aside from my friend (whose name was on the reservation) I did not know anyone else seated with us. The event itself was enjoyable. I paid my bill in cash but never received my final receipt or my change. After waiting and realizing the server was not returning, I decided to let it go. We then moved to the bar for additional cocktails. Two other diners from our table later came to the bar as well, but again, we did not know them outside of sitting at the same community table. I also want to acknowledge that the bartender was extremely kind and helpful. When we attempted to leave, four employees, including the managing partner who had helped host the event, blocked the exit and informed us we were not allowed to leave because they claimed to have video footage of my friend and the two other women from our table stealing a bottle from the gift display. All four of us carried only small purses and our take-home bags, and we immediately offered to show our belongings to clear up the misunderstanding. Instead of de-escalating, the situation intensified. When I stepped outside to retrieve my phone charger from my car, a male employee followed me. He approached me aggressively, threatened my safety, raised his fist toward me, and called me a racial slur in the parking lot. Another shift manager was also present during this incident and likewise threatened me instead of intervening or de-escalating. At that point, I was genuinely afraid for my safety, my friend's safety, and the safety of the other guests who were simply trying to enjoy their evening. I went back inside to wait for the police so I could address the accusation directly. While I was standing in the lobby, with other customers and employees still inside the restaurant, that same male employee confronted me again, used vile profanity, and called me out of my name. This happened openly, in full view of staff and guests. The hostility, aggression, and lack of professionalism were alarming. I ultimately chose to wait in my car for the officers to arrive. Within minutes of reviewing the situation, the police dismissed all accusations, as there was no evidence of theft. I filed a police report for the assault and later contacted corporate, where the representative I spoke with was compassionate and took my concerns seriously. I am embarrassed and deeply disappointed by the way the staff behaved and by the fact that other guests had to witness such chaos and hostility. The three other women, including my friend, along with myself, were all traumatized, unjustly accused, unlawfully detained, and humiliated by this experience. I hope every staff member involved in this incident is held fully accountable so that no other guest is ever treated this way. read more

Lunchtime on a cool rainy Monday. Place is almost empty, less than a dozen customers total. Hostess, head down, writing in a journal or diary....I waited a minute than announced my presence and asked for a table. Without a greeting, smile, or word, she turned and walked off to the kitchen leaving me standing, considering whether to leave and find another place for lunch. She returned, again, without a word, she grabbed a menu and headed for a table. I followed. She plopped down the menu and again without a word, returned to her writings. What follows is all good. Smiling waitress appeared, took my order. Food arrived promptly and was excellent. Generous portions at a very nominal price. Fresh baked mini loaf of bread appeared with an oil spice dipping tray, then a properly chilled fresh Caesar salad, followed by cooked to perfection Fish and Chips and a diet coke, all for $14.50. first the young lady that seated me must have known I just needed a quiet place to regroup from a long day. She was very kind and smiled upon entering restaurant. Jacola was my server.!! Very professional and a kind personality. My salmon came out nice and hot. Bang Bang wasn't really crispy- falling apart. But still good. I love the Brussels Sprouts. I got mashed potatoes. We ventured out to the Pineville/Matthers, NC area to dine at the local Bonefish Grill restaurant and I have to admit, it was a great choice! The restaurant was immediately clean, the staff were pleasant, friendly, clean and well dressed in white chef coats. Ash was our server and she was very attentive and a delightful waitress. Bread and olive oil dipping sauce was delivered to our table as we ordered drinks and an appetizer. Our crab cake appetizer came out quickly, and it was hot, fresh and very tasty. Our entrees arrived shortly after. We ordered mahi-mahi and shrimp and steak and shrimp (everything was outstanding)! Although our meals were quite filling we were tempted to try the Pumpkin Lava cake with a glass of one of my favorite wine (Chateau St Michelle Riesling). We weren't able to finish our meals so Ash packed them up into the cutest little boxes with little fishes drawn on the containers. Great dining experience, I will be back! read more

Bonefish is one of my favorite spots for shrimp and scallops. Tonight I met some SC friends at the Pineville location. The first thing I noticed when I joined my friends at our table was there were way too many tables in their dining area. The seating felt like you were literally on top of the table next to you. Not sure how their servers get through such tight spaces. I ordered my usual-shrimp and scallops skewer with lemon caper sauce. The shrimp were definitely over cooked. The sauce helped, but the rubbery texture of the dish was noticeable. Not my typical experience with Bonefish. Lastly, if I could make one suggestion to Bonefish restaurants in general it would be to offer more sides or include a salad with your meal. The busser Korree was phenomenal! While we were waiting on our meal we stopped him and asked him if he could get us some bread and if he could refill our waters. He smiled so big and brought it to us so swiftly! They were very busy and he had a positive attitude and then came back to make sure we were okay. The star is for the warm, friendly, caring staff (who don't seem so thrilled with the restaurant). We thought we'd give it a try with "take out" after one mgr. warned us that the outdoor lounge are (where we could bring our well behaved, friendly dog) offered nothing except a couple of sofas -- NOT EVEN A SIDE TABLE TO PLACE ONE'S BEVERAGE ON! Ordered two takeout meals, "Chicken Lily" & "Chicken Marsala". They came with terribly mushy, over coocked Broccoli (i.e.practically MUSH) and chicken that tasted of METAL! The bread they enclosed was totally stale (we wet that down to give to birds/wildlife in woods behind our condo. This place gets a health score of 90 out of 100 -- NOT GOOD!!! A 2nd mgr. admitted she didn't like the kitchen's "new recipe" for Chicken Marsala. I'm still praying that the two bites of chicken doesn't give me food poisoining (it doesn't come on right away necessarily). My advice? Stay away from Bonefish Grill -- PREDICTION? Overall I just wasn't impressed with the food & that was the consensus at the table. Surprisingly the broccoli was the show stopper for everybody when it came down to what we ate. The sangrias on the other hand are worth going back for, if I ever decided to return. The chicken Marsala was neither seasoned nor plated in a way that I found pleasing. I'm a visual eater & this looked a terrible mess. The chicken breast was tough and the two tablespoons full of regular white rice they gave me was extremely disappointing I know it's a side but if they were running low they could've said they were out, I would've preferred double broccoli instead. Even though they skimped on that as well. As you can see everyone that got broccoli got maybe 5 florets. The corn chowder was also quite bland although I give them a thumbs up for using actual crab meat to top it off, it adds nothing to the soup itself. The flavors here did not marry well at all, it's painfully obvious that something is missing & you spend a great deal of time trying to figure out what it is. Immediately you think to put pepper & salt on it but neither of those seasonings make the flavor combinations here make a lick of sense. The bang bang shrimp is probably the only thing that hit the table that didn't get critiqued harshly & rightly so as it's a popular dish. The other seafood dishes got ripped to shreds though. The Cod imperial was ordered twice & each person said it was thick & more cheese stuffed than a combination of cheese & seafood as advertised & the potatoes tasted like they were from a box. You can tell from the consistency that no actual potatoes were peeled & boiled. The Parmesan Crusted Trout was underwhelming & the lemon caper sauce was "okay". The newly added Signature pasta also didn't meet our standards as it was overly garnished & the peppers were too big & not cooked down enough however the jumbo shrimp was tasty & blackened to perfection, but the noodles for the dish itself were ehh. This BFG is nothing like the one in Concord, much slower paced & it looks like it's older as far as decor goes. Service was good, most of the party was late so I can understand hesitation to keep returning while we waited, but they didn't need to be stingy with the bread. The table we were sat at is not meant for a large group of people or genuinely large people either there was no wiggle room & everything was tight, the menus over lapped & had we been in the mood to order more it would've been a beast trying to figure out how to configure that. The bathroom was nice & clean though very dimly lit. Not the best place for selfies or really pulling yourself together. Because I was with friends the experience was not as bad, but collectively we decided that we would focus on the reason we were there & who we were there with more than anything else rather than to visibly wear the disdain we felt for the menu on our faces. We came here on our wedding anniversary and celebrated. As we came on a week day the restaurant was vacant so it was very nice. We started with the bang bang shrimp. Always a favorite. We split the Rockefeller Butterfish. It was delicious but didn't sit well with either of us which is why I rated this way. We ended the night with a lava cake desert but the lava was missing. :( all in all it was nice but it felt deflated. We will maybe give them a try on a weekend while the main staff is there. read more

We had to try their new seasonal menu. I loved the Pineapple Shrimp! I thought it was going to come with a heavy pineapple glaze but instead was brushed with a light carmelized finish - it didn't feel unhealthy. The Shrimp Rangoon Dip was a take on the standard Crab Rangoon. The cream cheese and chili sauce were all in one with shrimp added - tortilla chips on the side to dip. The Key Lime Cake is a MUST if you enjoy the Key Lime flavor. It was BIG so get it to share. Had to try their Bacon Mac & Cheese and it did not disappoint! Really 3.5 stars. It's a chain, so there are certain expectations that go along with that - consistency, expectations, etc. This location has been hit or miss for us, and on our most recent visit, certainly more of a hit. Bang bang shrimp - 5/5 - this is an appetizer that you can't go wrong with ordering. Lightly fried crispy shrimp, delicately tossed in a spicy Mayo sauce...just perfect. Ours was perfectly coated and the best way to start (along with the bread and dip). Caesar Salad - 3/5 - I love their dressing- tangy,classic, even writing it makes me want one. This one was a little skimpy, just a handful of Romaine and some shards of cheese. Certainly wasn't worth the price point on this visit. Sea Bass - 5/5 - I went with the small portion, which was more than enough for me. It was light, flaky and perfectly cooked. Exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered it. Filet - 4/5 - husband loved his filet - perfect cook, seasoned well and the right amount. He did the up charge for the asparagus, and got six stringy stalks of asparagus - again, not worth the price point. If you're looking for seafood in the Charlotte area, there's not a great deal of options, especially outside of Uptown. This will hit the spot, but won't blow your socks off. read more

UPDATE: Nov 2023 (previous review is from 2016 or 2017) I had the Bacon Egg Cheese Tacos with French Toast sticks. I ate the eggs and bacon. why is the taco not full? And when you think french toast, you think cinnamon and vanilla, not lemon. I'm positive they cut a lemon pound cake into sticks and deep fried. It tasted fine but not what you would expect so several people I dined with didn't like it. The only reason I rated service a 2 is because the server kept his composure. But on 2 occasions I asked the bartender if I could see the manager and she avoided coming out at all cost. She claimed to be helping the server correct our incorrect checks, but when people rendered payment, she went back and gave it to him to process so it slowed him down on correcting the checks. It took over 90 minutes to get our final checks! 90 MINUTES!!! A teo hour brunch turned in 4 hours. One person got their food 40 mins after everyone else and the manager didn't care. I was dining with an brunch organization with locations in over 90 cities including international ones. I can't see dining at Bonefish for brunch ever again! read more

Ate at Bonefish Tuesday night as I was in the area and had a craving for some bang bang shrimp! Pro-tip: We always get the sauce on the side cause it keeps the shrimp crispier that way and I enjoy dipping it in the sauce! To start with the good part of the experience - service was excellent and my bang bang shrimp was perfect. For points of improvement - it's lacking a bit in food quality and then cleanliness. The bread plates we received had one clean plate and then one dirty plate. As far as entrees, I ordered the small salmon with broccoli and then fries as my side. When I received my entree, the broccoli and salmon were a bit cold. You could tell the broccoli wasn't evenly cooked as some florets were warm and others were cold and a little raw. I still ate it but of course - it would've been better if it was hot. My husband got the seasonal special - Baja Scallop Scampi and Shrimp (Roasted bay scallops tossed in a creamy scampi garlic butter sauce topped with fresh tomatoes and paired with wood-grilled jumbo shrimp skewers) that he got with spinach and mashed potatoes. He didn't have any quality concerns with his entree - the grilled shrimp was really good and then if you love sauces - the baja scallops are definitely generously covered in the sauce. read more

Not quite a four-star, so call this one a high three-star. Impressed with how large of a dining area they had, and it seemed that they had plenty of servers. There were four of us, two couples. It was a Friday night. We ordered drink a drink and said we would later order a bottle of wine, once we had decided on what we would be eating. It was clear that that was the first item on the to-do list, as the server would not move on until that was accomplished. The menu was good, although most all the seafood dishes were "deluxed" with crab or shrimp sauces or spinach sauce. Thankfully, they offered their two Drum fish specials to be served simply as grilled. That was my entree. We did order a starter, fried calamari, which was small pieces of breaded meet, or pieces of calamari, along with strips of red bell pepper. We ingested a good amount of oil via those small pieces and felt that the red peppers were just fillers. Suggest they put tentacles and rings of calamari on the menu and leave the peppers off. Wife ordered a sauced chicken dish, Lily Chicken, the other lady the mahi-mahi with shrimp and the other guy the scallop and shrimp linguine. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was served nicely and appropriately. And we chatted. We were visiting and catching up with each other. But the servers had their agenda to get the drinks, get the wine out, take dinner orders and get the food out. Dessert was offered and no one opted to have it. Servers kept asking if we wanted more wine and then management came by asking how our meal was. In fact, there were four management people asking, one saying, "Was it as delicious as you thought it would be?" And we continued to chat, payed the bill and it was clear that pressure was on the servers to get those tables turned. So it was an "OK" experience. Not too expensive with our bill being $157.07. After attending a Yelp Elite event here, the restaurant graciously gave us gift cards with the hope that we might return in the near future to give them a shot and leave a review. So I did, and was not disappointed. Naturally I had to have the whole experience. I ordered a three course meal starting with Bang Bang Shrimp. They were flawless as always and come out piping hot and fresh. For my meal I ordered the Bourbon Glazed Salmon that had cherries on top. It comes out on a plank. I admit I forgot to ask them to cook it to order so it came out just a touch overdone for my usual liking. The green beans and rice were me trying to make a healthier choice. As such, they left a little something to be desired. Lastly I ordered a key lime pie for dessert and did not regret it, though I left here pleasantly plump. My server was attentive and friendly. Waits for the courses were short, owing to the fact that a random weeknight in here was pretty well dead. As far as nicer chain restaurants go, Bonefish is always at the top of the list of places I would choose to visit as opposed to Applebee's, for example. But lately, my experience has been negative due to the negative service attitude of the servers and several have looked unhygienic from multiple nose and tongue piercings, long dirty talon-like nails, and messy hair hanging down over our table and food. Can't help but to think of Hepatitis. I know it's hard to find people to work, but when I pay a few hundred dollars to an establishment to feed my family, I would prefer higher end trained staff respectful of food handling practices and appearance as part of the experience.
