Susan and I have been here several times over the years but have not been back since we moved to Denver NC 6 years ago. I belong to a Genealogy Club here at Trilogy and a group of us were invited to the Family Center of the Latter-Day Saints just down the road. We had lunch at Trio and it was excellent. We had a side room up the stairs and it worked out well. We had plenty of room to ourselves and did not intrude on other Patron. Everyone ordered off of the menu and since it's been ages since I've had a good Reuben. I remember they always had good Reubens so I ordered that along with a Pasta Salad. Considering that this was a group, service was exceptionally good. Reuben was a bit smaller than I remembered but still ample for a good lunch. Pasta Salad was excellent as well. We were customer number two on the opening day and we've been going to it for years. I must say it's the most consistent restaurant I know of in Charlotte that has good service great food and brings back memory after memory for us over last many many years we've had wedding receptions, my wife and have many intimate dinner. After four years, time for an update. I met up with about 30 former work colleagues at this restaurant. We meet once a month for lunch and this place is on the regular rotation because everyone seems to like it. Today I had the Onion Soup appetizer and the grilled pepper salmon as my main entree. Everything was real good, kind of a small portion size on the salmon though. It came with two sides, cream of cauliflower and asparagus. What was really outstanding was the service from Bridgette. She was waiting on everyone, more than 30 people seated a different tables in a special section. She was AMAZING! Not once did I need to reminder her for a beverage refill and I heard nothing but compliments about her! Looking for lunch. Did not want fast food, but did not want out-to-dinner-fancy either. We looked at each other and said, "Trio". A very nice and very popular American food restaurant. A great place for a first date. Interior is warm and welcoming, a full bar with eating spaces, a really nice pizza oven, ample parking, and a great staff of wait people and in the kitchen. And prices are reasonable. There is a separate brunch menu for weekends. The regular menu will satisfy everyone. We started with two Bloody Mary's, which our slow waiter, Adam R. did not get to the table until our main courses were ready for pick-up. Best when ordering a drink &/or starter to state to your server that you will order our main course later. Their version of Shrimp N Grits ($19) was different, as each component was presented on the plate as separate items. You blend or consume it as you like. Shrimp were grilled nicely, and in its own pile, "grits is grits" were just that, without anything mixed into it, like cheese. Well, it was good, but not my style. I prefer everything cooked and mixed together in the grits. Wife had a nice Quiche ($12) and they offer different styles each day. Very nice. After church on Easter Sunday, we ended up at Trio. It's been a while since I've dined there, so it was nice to check them out again. We didn't have reservations, but the hostesses went above and beyond to find a table for us. After waiting a few minutes, my party of five was seated. Our server was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. I ordered the Cobb Salad. I didn't realize the salad dressing was already tossed in the salad...must've missed that on the menu. Fortunately, I loved the dressing and ate the whole salad. I'd say the dressing was heavily tossed, so if you don't like a ton of dressing, ask for it on the side. My mother ordered the sampler because she couldn't make up her mind. She enjoyed everything but the poached egg, because she doesn't eat poached eggs haha. The brunch pizza and cheeseburger received positive reviews, and my nephew devoured his red velvet waffle. Also, the complimentary muffins they give you as an appetizer never disappoints. Been going to Trio for years and have really enjoyed it. Has been one of my family's go-to places. Was there for lunch earlier this week, and the experience was a little different. The seasonal dessert special on the front of the menu was a blueberry lemon bread pudding. I ordered this, but the server said I couldn't have it because they still had the previous banana pineapple coconut bread pudding left from previously, and they couldn't serve the blueberry one until the banana one was all gone. Not a good look, Trio. Don't offer an item on the seasonal special menu and then refuse to serve it because there are still leftovers in the kitchen. I passed on dessert this time. read more

I go to this restaurant at least quarterly as it's a great way to step back into a time period when restaurants were uniquely centered around family and gatherings. From the large booths, the home like atmosphere and such great southern hospitality service...one can't go wrong with this choice. I genuinely like this restaurant as is and it has withstood the test of time and its "old" vibe is its charm. The drinks are great, the food is always tasty and you don't have to shout to have a conversation. The one peculiar thing is some tables had tablecloths and some didn't. That seemed quite odd. I go here about once a week to get the Cobb Salad with Killer Dressing- and it is just that, Killer! I alter mine a bit and it's never an issue. I prefer just romaine and warm grilled chicken. It disappears as fast as it shows up. They also have very good soup and I enjoy the club sandwich that is always on a fresh croissant. They even have a wood fire oven you can sit at and watch them cook! A cool looking bar area, like it's local vibes. It's a large place! The food was very good that we had. Wood Fire Bread Trio for appetizer a big yum to the bread spread with garlic oil and shredded basil. 3 dips marinara, bean dip and a muffuletta type spread. Chicken Tender which were extremely fresh and perfectly prepared! Along with old school crispy French fries(little skimpy on the fries if your sharing) We also had the Which we brought home and unfortunately haven't tried it yet. Service was nice but very odd at the same time. Server wanted to take away time from our date for one of us to translate for her and take an order for her. We politely declined and told her to use google translate or someone on their team to assist...The place is long overdue for a remodel. Food is like cafeteria food and so is the quality and plating. Anytime you call they tell you to call at a later time because they are too busy. This place isn't that busy and I witnessed it in person when I dined in and overheard who I assume is the manager or owner tell another guest over the phone the same thing. That is the worst thing you can do. Guests who call are most likely guest who have never been and will likely end up not visiting because they couldn't get an answer over the phone. Today's Sunday brunch was my first visit here in probably ten years but, for the life of me, I'm not quite sure why I've stayed away so long. It had never disappointed in the past, and it definitely did not do so today. What was once a contemporary California grille kinda vibe (upon its 1992 opening), now seems a bit retro; however the atmosphere is still bright and fresh. If I remember correctly, it was one of the first places in Charlotte that offered Cali-style brick oven pizza. Prices are fairly reasonable and service is still friendly, attentive and fast. Sanitation grade was an acceptable 95.5. The menu is quite eclectic, offering everything from single serve pizzas, to sandwiches, to beautifully prepared entrees. Deciding on what to order from so many diverse options can be daunting. The good news is that you cannot go wrong. I was pleased with my choice - the Buttermilk Battered Fried Chicken Breast and Gravy. It was served piping hot and was absolutely delicious as were the sides (creamy grits and apple cider collards.) As a collards lover, I'd go so far as to label them as "special"as they were perfectly cooked, not mushy like most, and had just the right touch of apples and bacon. My went with the Eggs Trio. It consisted of a rich Hollandaise sauce over poached eggs and crab meat on an English muffin served with creamy grits. It was tasty but not quite hot enough temperature-wise, and was missing the spinach that the menu stated it was supposed to include. Still, that's nothing that would preclude us from returning (soon). Sunday brunch also includes a special bonus - homemade mini muffins and banana bread with whipped butter. Every bit as delicious as I remember! Careful not to fill up on them however, which can happen before you realize. The restaurant has five distinct dining areas highlighted by an expansive patio and a lightfilled atrium-like main dining room. On your first visit, choose it, if available. There's also small, cozy bar area across from three comfortable booths that are nice. Keep in mind however that this joint almost always requires a wait. So, be prepared. But it's worth the wait. You probably figured by now that this place is a Gotta Try. We hope to be back real soon! read more

Had an amazing night at Trio! We were able to get seated with a last minute walk-in before the dinner rush came in. The entire restaurant was packed maybe 20 minutes after our order was put in the kitchen. My sister and mom had the onion and the clam chowder soups and they were very flavorful. We had the salads and not photographed was my sister's fried chicken but we got to try it and it was amazing! Everything was reasonably priced, very well seasoned/expertly cooked and the staff was incredibly friendly. Someone even opened the door for us as we left! I think my favorite part of the meal has to be the magical apple fritters with cinnamon ice cream. If you haven't been, get a meal at this gem! Having experienced Trio through a catered lunch at work one time previously I was excited to bring my family to tonight to celebrate my sons birthday. There was plenty of seating in both the main dining area and the one to the left but our party of 6 was placed in a secluded back area of the restaurant to the right with no other patrons. From what I could tell, we were dressed appropriately as some patrons wore board shorts and t-shirts and I wouldn't call this a swanky establishment by any means. The food was nothing to rave about and I was very put off by the fact that we were placed back there alone. After our meal I took several looks around the establishment to see if there were any other patrons like us and to see if there were tables to accommodate parties of 6. The conclusion I drew was no, there were NOT black, Asian, Peurto Rican and Panamanian people there except for the two black women sitting with an older caucasian female in the middle section. The patrons were predominately white. The, what I assume was manager, asked if I was looking for something so I inquired why we were seated away from everyone else. His reply was that "there was another large party that was supposed to be back there but their party decreased in size". I replied "to what? zero?". My son tried to lighten the mood by stating, "you must've put us in the VIP section" He's an 18 yr old kid but has class and knew that I was not pleased with having been segregated from the crowd. All of this to say, apart from the Vietnamese server that took care of us, the greeter and manager did not impress and I'm highly displeased with his response to the situation and the discomfort he seemed to have with me looking around. $220 later for mediocre food and a $40 tip we will NOT be returning and I will advise all of my friends and associates to steer clear as well. When vendors ask, what we want for catered lunches in the future I will stop suggesting Trio. read more

My wife was craving bread pudding and this place doesn't disappoint!! We had their seasonal chocolate chip bread pudding. My wife stated it was very nice at a 8/10.
