For 25 years Trio is one of our favorites. The servers are excellent. The food is wonderful. Order the Almond Basket for dessert.

My mom wanted to get some delicious brunch so we tried Trio's! We got there at 10am and there was no wait, we were immediately seated. Service was great, they were friendly and very accommodating. We got the chicken and waffles, breakfast sampler, and the red velvet bread for dessert. The chicken and waffles had the best chicken! It was very crispy and tender. The breakfast sampler was delicious, if you're looking for something light get the breakfast sampler. The dessert was also good! My friends and I decided to have dinner at this restaurant after having recommendations from others. We had an enjoyable experience. A nice atmosphere, a friendly waitress, good service , reasonable prices, basically tasty food attractively plated. I ordered the French onion soup, my dining mate the New England clam chowder. Our entrees: 2 Trio chicken salad plates, the spinach lasagna and chicken over pasta. My onion soup tasty, very few onions in the broth, the clam chowder quite tasty. The two of us who ordered the chicken salad. greens and fruit plate decided it was something we probably wouldn't order again. The green apples must of been coated in lemon juice and tasted quite bitter. Our greens were slightly coated in the vinaigrette and I had to ask for more. However the chicken salad was delicious. The other entrees were decidedly quite tasty . We would probably return here again and order different menu items. read more

I was craving something sweet after my workout, so stopped in for one of my fave desserts in town...that is, their lovely Almond Basket. Simply a Must-Try! I've been to this restaurant a good number of times in the past decade or so...and from their menu, this dessert always tops the list as their best...to me, at least! On a down note, I've had some service issues in the past year, so not sure if I'd highly recommend the restaurant in general. Even today, I stood by the hostess stand for at least 3 minutes before near flagging someone to escort me to a table. Given that I arrived outside of their prime lunch or dinner hours, guess it's understandable...but there always seems to be one issue or another as of late. I hosted a bridal luncheon at Trio Saturday for my daughter. I have to commend Trio Management and staff for an excellent job. The room was prepared for us to my exact specifications of seating and items to be provided. And as usual even for a party of 26 the service and food was excellent. We all know that restaurants are running short staffed now, but it seemed that this luncheon ran as smoothly as any event I have hosted. I had personally been there several times for meals with my friends and my husband and never have I had a disappointing experience. read more

Today's Sunday brunch was my first visit here in probably ten years but, for the life of me, I'm not quite sure why I've stayed away so long. It had never disappointed in the past, and it definitely did not do so today. What was once a contemporary California grille kinda vibe (upon its 1992 opening), now seems a bit retro; however the atmosphere is still bright and fresh. If I remember correctly, it was one of the first places in Charlotte that offered Cali-style brick oven pizza. Prices are fairly reasonable and service is still friendly, attentive and fast. Sanitation grade was an acceptable 95.5. The menu is quite eclectic, offering everything from single serve pizzas, to sandwiches, to beautifully prepared entrees. Deciding on what to order from so many diverse options can be daunting. The good news is that you cannot go wrong. I was pleased with my choice - the Buttermilk Battered Fried Chicken Breast and Gravy. It was served piping hot and was absolutely delicious as were the sides (creamy grits and apple cider collards.) As a collards lover, I'd go so far as to label them as "special"as they were perfectly cooked, not mushy like most, and had just the right touch of apples and bacon. My went with the Eggs Trio. It consisted of a rich Hollandaise sauce over poached eggs and crab meat on an English muffin served with creamy grits. It was tasty but not quite hot enough temperature-wise, and was missing the spinach that the menu stated it was supposed to include. Still, that's nothing that would preclude us from returning (soon). Sunday brunch also includes a special bonus - homemade mini muffins and banana bread with whipped butter. Every bit as delicious as I remember! Careful not to fill up on them however, which can happen before you realize. The restaurant has five distinct dining areas highlighted by an expansive patio and a lightfilled atrium-like main dining room. On your first visit, choose it, if available. There's also small, cozy bar area across from three comfortable booths that are nice. Keep in mind however that this joint almost always requires a wait. So, be prepared. But it's worth the wait. You probably figured by now that this place is a Gotta Try. We hope to be back real soon! read more

I went in and Nobody seems to care that I a guest. 1. No One greet me at entrance. 2. My friend found me and we went together to the table. 3. The waitress came and ask me what do I want for drink. As soon as she asked me and turn around and left. I was about to ask what kind of drink they have? She just ignored me and left. After my friends arrived, we ordered our drinks and she didn't listen carefully my friend order. My friend ordered that she wants water without Ice in it. But she came back with water with ice. My friend didn't say anything back to her. When all my friends arrived, we all waited for 30-45 minutes to order our foods. I finally asked for waitress and then she came to my table. We all ordered but every time she speaks very loud, very rude and she has no patience at all. Finally, I left for restroom and my friends surprised with my birthday desserts. The waitress came with a dessert in the boxed and in the shopping bag. She dumped the bag on the table so loud that I can hear boomed on the table. My friends requested that she can bring a birthday dessert with Candle and light on it so that they can sing happy birthday songs to me. That was disaster and ridiculous that the waitress did to us. She should not be allowed to work at the restaurant because she didn't know how to serve customer with respect and manners. I didn't know her name because she never mentioned to our table. Horrible experience for me and I would never go back again Trios. The manager/ owner should know about his employees. read more

I have been going to Trio since I moved to Charlotte in 1998, and it is an All American staple restaurant. Their location is large and they offer an extensive menu, from Soups, Salads, Pizza, Pasta and some speciality items each month. My most recent visit was with my Dinner Group, which included 8 people and we had reservations. We were seated in a nice private area and had a great server. Ironically it was a Tuesday night and the place was packed. With that said, having 8 people there was definitely a variety in the food ordered. We started with soup and some appetizers, in particular the French Onion and Trio Dip. The French Onion was a hit, but the Dip Trio wasn't anything to write home about. And, unfortunately they had just ran out of Romaine Lettuce so there salad selections were limited. How does a restaurant run out of Romaine at 7:30pm on a Tuesday...anyway. As for the entrees, we enjoyed a variety of items and from what everyone said they liked their dishes. I had the Chicken and Shrimp and thought it was fine. Everything to mean seemed good, but no one faved about anything and said this is a must return restaurant. We finished our meal with dessert and I can say that was sure the highlight. I loved my brownie and ice cream, and others enjoyed their treats. On a side note, there cocktail menu and wine isn't anything great! read more

We have always loved Trios in the past but last night was awful. Maybe it's because I ordered takeout, but the food we got was not good at all. Most of it got thrown away. The chicken salad was slimy and the beef was tough. My mom called to let them know, but the woman who identified herself as a manager didnt want to hear about it. Very disappointing. read more

Recently we've have had inconsistent meals. Caesar salad a couple of weeks ago came out nicely tossed and lettuce was fresh. Last week it was served at a very cold temperature, all the cheese was in a ball at the bottom of the dish and it was heavily tossed with way too much dressing. Also, it had tomato's which were absent from my first salad. Also tried the onion soup which was very salty, not many onions and may have had MSG mixed in or blended into the broth. The crust was somewhat burnt. My wife had a salad with Salmon. The Salmon was very dry, had black grill marks and was overcooked. Not my typical experience at Trio hence, a generous 4 stars on a 2.5 star meal. read more

I like this little nugget restaurant. It's got good food and a great atmosphere. On days you just need a little pick me up it does just that. They don't have everything on the menu but enough that you won't leave hungry. Just a nice place to rest your weary bones and get something good to eat. read more

My wife and I have been going to Trio's since it opened in 1992. It always provides a very good meal for the price. The pizza is special with a thin crust and good toppings that is cooked in a wood fired oven. We also like the salmon specials and the salads. The balsamic chicken salad is great. The owner is there daily, they have chefs not cooks, so I am very surprised that anyone has had a bad experience. Came here on Sunday and we were able to catch the brunch menu. I had salmon, grits and collard greens. The greens were cooked in apple cider vinegar which was nice Southern touch! The salmon was bland and I didn't care for the sun dried tomato butter it came with. The grits were ok. A friend suggested getting the lemon butter sauce which comes with salmon on the dinner menu and that was tasty. They offer free banana bread, berry and lemon poppy seed muffins during brunch which was something nice to munch on while we waited on our meals. One of the owners was around and made sure everyone was taken care of; nice home feeling. read more

This restaurant appears to be a staple in this community where there are regulars for years. Came here to try a new place. We made a reservation, but we didn't need one to dine. It has a 90's/80's decor and menu. It's a place that seems to stand still in time and will definitely take you back to another era. They had 80'd theme music playing and the whole experience is unique. Came early evening on a week night and it wasn't too crowded. The staff were attentive. They didn't make any recommendations on food to try. The pesto bread appetizer is bread folded over with mozzarella cheese, pesto sauce, and roasted red peppers. It was very bland. Garlic salt would make it pop or even some spicy peppers to take it to another level. The table salt helped. The chicken salad I ordered was okay. I didn't care for the bacon vinigarette that came with the salad and I'm glad I asked for it to come on the side. The peach martini was okay. The tortellini pasta in my friends dish was not fresh or homemade. Based on the appetizer, drinks, and entrees we went to another location for dessert. Maybe we ordered the wrong food or came on the wrong night, but the experience and food were basic. Flavors were lacking. read more

It was our first time here and we really wanted to love this place. The reviews were great and our expectations high. Starting off with positives, we give 5 stars for the hostess, extensive and unique menu offerings, and the food quality. There are so many choices from apps to desserts--it was hard to narrow it down. The service, however, was one-star at best. Our waitress was MIA throughout the meal, making no attempts to check on us. The wait for our food was excessive, brought by another server, and missing an entree salad which we thought would follow shortly. It never did. By the time we spotted our waitress and had to motion for her to come over, two of us had completely finished our meal while the third person was still waiting. Her response was completely unapologetic: "It's coming right up." That added insult to injury, as salads clearly don't take longer than hot entrees. I can't remember a time at any restaurant when service was this poor. We get it; staffing issues will result in slower service, but compromising friendliness and accountability isn't an acceptable practice. read more

Trio has something for everyone, truly. Pizza, wraps, salads, burgers, beer, cocktails, you name it! Most things also come at a decent price as well. My only complaint is that nothing I had "wowed" me. I have had their shrimp and grits, pizza, an app, and cocktail, and although the food was good, nothing made me itch to come back. read more

I called today for a large party reservation and they were able to seat us all at 7pm (lucky lucky!) We had our own private seating area and two servers. This place is a Charlotte classic since 1992. I love the decor in here. It's very California or Miami Vice 80s feel and lighting. The main dining area has 2 large trees with lights that make it feel like you've brought the park indoors. PLEASE don't ever update/remodel ! I love the brick walls and there's a real brick oven for their pizzas. A group of us came here and everyone liked what they got. My husband got French onion soup and chicken pot pie. Both had a crescent roll pastry on top. The flavor of the soup broth is really great. In my opinion, the pot pie, especially the chicken, could have used more seasoning... like a rosemary/thyme blend or something. I got he mulligatawney soup and it was fantastic ! It had a slight spicy heat to it. I got the fried chicken with potatoes and collard greens. I really enjoyed the combo of the fried chicken, gravy and potatoes. Let's face it, they are probably using fake/instant potatoes... because they are pretty much flavorless, but pairing it in each bite with the chicken and gravy made it good. I wouldn't get the potatoes as a stand-alone side though, you'll be disappointed. The Cobb salad looked great. I got a beer called Dunkel that was good. Of course I had to have their signature dessert - the almond basket. You MUST get this if you come here. There should me some type of banner on the menu about this classic dessert served for YEARS here ! The basket is not only pretty, it has a nice crunch and almond flavor. I hate coffee, so when I tell you the coffee ice cream served in it is good, that is really saying something. The coffee flavor is very slight. read more

Just now leaving Trio (6/25/23) and my experience was great. Overall cleanly place, nice and spacious also. I want to give a big shoutout to our server Sarah! I was there with colleagues and their families, including kids there was a total of 25 people and Sarah kept her cool! Between dodging the little ones and gathering all the orders , she was excellent. All of our orders were delivered in a timely manner, still hot and fresh, our cups were never empty. Disclaimer: I did not come here for a regular sit down meal - I came for a company happy hour. That being said, Trio was everything I expected it to be and more. First, I want to shout out ALEXIS, GARY, AND THE JENNIFER'S. The staff was beyond fantastic both planning the event and running the event while my team was there. Alexis and Gary helped me understand what was possible from a venue and menu standpoint a couple weeks before our planned event and got it nailed down to give them enough time to make it all happen at the restaurant.They were also able to reserve a large space for us in the back that accommodated us perfectly. The two servers, Jennifer and Jennifer, were also fantastic. We had a larger group - around 30 people - so there were requests flying out from all over the place. They did a great job of making sure all orders were taken and then quickly filled! We ordered a ton of different food - salads, sandwiches, pizzas, calamari, chicken tenders - and it was all DELICIOUS. It's one thing to make your food taste good, it's another thing to make sure a lot of food tastes good and is FRESH. You could tell all of the food they brought out was just made. I really appreciate that kind of planning on their part to make sure the food was as fresh as possible. That is definitely not the case in a lot of places. My first impression coming in was that its a resturant reminds me of something out of the cheers show where you can have a good time , laughing and feel like your home. My wife and I dined here and it triggered a wave of nostalgia from when I was a kid. The Mulligatawny soup was out of this world, and was wonderfully prepared as I had remembered. I got the beef tenderloin sandwich and it was incredible, the fried onion straws took the sandwich to another level. My wife got the Cobb salad and pasta salad and really enjoyed it.
