The tiramisu drowning in Hersheys syrup. Couldn't eat that .
Jane T.

I have been a Portofino fan for years but tonight was my first and last time spending money at this restaurant at the Arboretum. Never again . It wasn't a good experience. The waitress was horrible . I asked about the food specials and after asking her to repeat things three times I gave up. She had a very put off demeanor as tho she wasn't interested in helping or serving us. She never offered us a refill of any water and never cleared any of our salad or dinner plates. Finally another waitress came by and helped us. Offered us water refills and cleared the table. The food was meh. My spaghetti tasted like it had been in the oven warmer too long and was really not good. It was spaghetti. How do you mess that up ? It wasn't good. Hubs had the veal Parmesan . It was good . For dessert I order a tiramisu thinking maybe that would be the better ending to this horrible dinner situation. It came to us covered in a bottle of Hershey's syrup. So bad - I couldn't do it and knew the waitress wasn't coming back so I asked for the manager . Got a replacement tiramisu that was better, but honestly by then I simply wanted to leave. I have been to two other Portofino locations and never have had such a put off experience or really bad and uncaring waitress. I won't make this mistake again. Ever.

The portofino on eastway is substantially better. This is still pretty good although. Gets a 4/5 stars from me. See pictures along with it.

Portofino's is a great neighborhood Italian spot! There wasn't too long of a wait on a Friday night and we were seated within 30 minutes. The waiter was really friendly and gave some good recommendations. The wine was tasty but I can't remember which bottle we got. It was red. On our first visit, I got chicken parm and was extremely underwhelmed. It lacked flavor and the chicken wasn't crispy at all. My husband really liked his clam pasta recommended by the waiter. The second time, we ordered pizza to go and it was delicious! The white pizza add bacon was wonderful and the Montese pizza was really good too. *for to go orders, be sure to remember the number they give you! Otherwise, they don't call names. Be sure to double check the salad menu because when I thought I was ordering a side salad, I actually got a house salad and it came with some unpleasant slimy marinated vegetables and it was just overall not good.

We dine here whenever we're in town. Great staff and service. Their specialty pizzas are delicious and so are their pasta entrees. The margherita pizza is our favorite. Their specialty pizzas are huge so do share.

Very clearly the best late night pizza option in Charlotte. May just be the absolute best pizza…read moreoption period. We stopped in here for a weeknight late bite when our options were somewhat limited. Thankfully at that hour, street parking in NoDa wasn't too bad, we got a spot just off the main drag. Slices here are GIGANTIC, one is easily about 3 standard slices of pizza, or two normal NY size slices. We got a pepperoni and a cheese. The pepperoni had nice kick to them and the cheese was a high quality. You had to let the pepperoni grease drain onto your plate a bit, but that is expected. The thing that makes both slices so good is the garlic butter bath all around the crust that you can see them doing in the kitchen. Not just that, but the texture in the crust will make even non-crust lovers think again. You're basically left with big doughy garlic butter breadsticks. Definitely a 5 on taste. My only complaint, and I'm sure it is partly by design to keep people from staying long, the stools you can sit on to enjoy your pizza inside the restaurant are THE WORST I have ever placed my derrier on. Even for 15 minutes, it wasn't just uncomfortable, it was painful. It took me a couple blocks to start walking correctly again. Might as well just get rid of them and have people stand to eat. Terrible. Almost knocked a star off for it, that bad. Regardless of the world's worst stools, I would come back for more pizza and just plan on not eating it there.

Loved the layout with seating inside and the open window out front, very inviting! Will add, best eaten fresh as when taken back to our hotel, it did lose its crispiness! But overall a great spot to check out.

A couple of bites is all ya need to prepare for their delicious pizzas. My go to is light on the Pepperoni Well Done (important) and a side of hot honey sauce and a side of plain honey. Because the hot stuff ain't no joke- I have to turn down the spice by mixing the two. Then it's like the best Sweet and Salty you can dream of then the heat kicks you in the face in the best way. To top it off don't even think about leaving before you have one of their brown butter chocolate chip cookies! They are ridiculous and a must. If no room in your belly make sure to get one to go and you can heat it up to perfection when you get home.

The reason we came in to order to-go was because we weren't happy with the Door-Dash delivery of same last time. The pizza just didn't travel well. This time with our to-go order it traveled a bit better and was fresher. We think it would be even better (4 stars) if we dined in. We also had a nice salad of mixed greens with dried cherries and the like, but it didn't come tossed. The dried cherries were in one corner, the onions in another ... you get the idea. Tossing would have made it easier to eat on-the-go. But the service people were very nice, and the store was clean and roomy with a semi-open kitchen. We'd give this place another try next time when dining in.

Review for Pizza Baby…read more After a relaxing Vinyasa yoga class and sound bath at The Coterie Wellness one evening, I found myself hungry--and conveniently, Pizza Baby had just opened in the same complex. Perfect timing. Since it was still new, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and I decided to grab a table outside. The outdoor seating was lovely--relaxed, comfortable, and a great way to unwind after a wellness session. I'm a sucker for thin-crust pizza, especially when it's hand-tossed and thoughtfully prepared, so one item immediately caught my eye: the rosemary pizza with hot honey. Sold. I added Italian sausage to the pizza and paired it with a fresh green salad (I can never resist a good Green Goddess dressing). Yes, it was a little on the pricey side, but the quality matched the cost--and I was genuinely pleased with my choices. The crust was thin and flavorful, the toppings were balanced, and the hot honey added just the right touch of sweetness and heat. This is definitely a place I'd return to--next time with friends--so we can share a few different pizzas and appetizers and really explore the menu. A few practical notes: * Parking is generally easy since the restaurant shares a lot with neighboring businesses in the complex * There are several nearby spots, including a wine bar and entertainment venues, which make the area feel lively * There was some early parking congestion when a nearby church held services, but the situation has since been addressed with signage and coordinated parking solutions It's nice to see businesses and community partners working together to make things run smoothly. There's also another location of Pizza Baby that I plan to visit, which speaks to how positive my first experience was. Bottom line: Great thin-crust pizza, pleasant outdoor seating, and a convenient stop after yoga or an evening out. A solid addition to Charlotte's growing food scene--and absolutely worth checking out. And if you're already in the area for a class or wellness session, it makes for the perfect post-workout reward.

The pizza was completely inedible. A quart of tomato sauce sat on top of turned-soggy bread,…read moresurrounded by burnt crust. And it wasn't even that hot. It had been sitting there under the lights for too long. Because the place was busy, and we do have empathy for how hard servers work, we did not send it back or say anything. Just ate as much as we could The meatball appetizer was small and not overly flavorful--a lot for $14, just to add that in. Also, many of the appetizers are cheese-type dishes, which feels like a bit much if you're already there for pizza. Why PB puts SO much sauce on their pies, I don't know. They could save a few dollars by cutting the amount in half. Maybe their other pies are not as soggy, and the fact that margherita pies have a more watery cheese is a factor. Still, we nearly had to eat it like soup. The service was fine--could've been a little more attentive. But there are a dozen other pizzerias in Charlotte that are much better.

Their patio is so fun, the street you overlook is pretty chill so there weren't a lot of cars or noise. The area has good enough traffic for decent people watching, that's always fun. Our server was so funny and cool. I wish I could remember his name, but he was having a good convo with the person I was with about basketball and it was just really nice. It felt like I was home on my couch hanging with friends. It's such a cool chill place. I loved the pizza, olives app and the old fashioned. It was nice to actually meet the owner too, he is the person who greeted us when we walked in and he was really nice. This place just seems like a good neighborhood spot. If I lived closer I'd probably go a lot more often. Great spot!!
