Mayfair Seafood is a throwback to Southern fish camps with an emphasis on hot, fried seafood and sides. And there are not many of these places left, either. We've dined here twice for lunch and both visits were pleasant and efficient. The food came hot from the fryer to our table, was tasty, and well-plated. Our service was great and we thought the pricing fair. While they have grilled and broiled options, we have only chosen the fried fish and shrimp. Living in Charlotte, you can't find a good seafood restaurant, it just doesn't exist anymore! I've been looking for something near by and came across Mayfair & decided to try! This place used to be better but it was never as good as the older true Southern fish places like Lineberger's. The broiled food was overcooked. As for the fried, It's ok. But fried scallops overcooked is well. And the price/value is not there. Waiter service was great this time but in past not so much. Last time we will eat there. read more

Very friendly waiter that went above and beyond (idk if it's appropriate to namedrop so I won't, but he honestly deserves a raise). Although the food wasn't a hit out of the park, it was hot & there was PLENTY. They have very big servings. We went on a Sunday almost right after church let out, but there weren't that many people - so it was quiet & comfortable. The only complaint is that it got cold where we were sitting, so make sure to bring a jacket just in case. read more

Yummy! My dad loves fried fish! I took him to Mayfair to celebrate his birthday and they did not disappoint! Fish on the bone just like my dad likes it! It was hot and delicious. The service was horrible im from the other side of gaston county and decided to have a nice meal to bring home. But instead was given someone elses order. The staff then refused to get a manager and made up a story that i called to confirm my order was right. No who in the history of resturants call to say thanks for giving me the correct order i clearly have 2 different order tickets in my bag the correct one which was a pick 3 and one for shrimp and fries. LARGE BANQUET AREAS FOR 60 AND 100 PEOPLE. First time I've seen 2 such a large area for birthdays, class reunions and other big gatherings. And the huge dishes of food, much larger than most restaurants. My bongbong shrimp was 2 full meals. And they have plenty of parking. The menu was compete - every possible seafood or fish offering. Every time I'm in town I try to make it a point to get visit this spot. They've been around for years and do seafood right. The portions are big and I've never left hungry. Salad dressing (ranch) was watery. The salad was cut to such small pieces it was hard to even pick up with a fork. The New England clam chowder was NASTY. WAY too much corn starch. When I commented on how I did not care for it the server smiled and said yeah our soups here are disgusting. The fries were great, sauted shrimp was great. The server was very nice and checked on me regularly. So skip the soups and salads. The rest was good. read more

been customers for years and years; always given 10% military discount. 6 weeks ago cashier rudely announced in front of people :we don't give discount for lunch meals." I told her it was well after 5 and it was the supper meal. Two weeks later she didn't give me the discount and again in front of other customers, rudely told to take 8 pieces of 25 cent candy; a value 1/2 that of the discount. The next occasion when I Checked my receipt she has only given me a 3$ discount on an almost $50 bill. Last time (this week) she gave a $2 discount on the entire $40+ bill. When questioned she rudely said that's the discount. When I asked when did it change the cashier said it's been that way for a long time. Well, this was unmemorable. The parking lot was packed, and always is so I had some expectations but when I walked in I immediately noticed a very dingy eating area. Not dirty, just....tired. They have a large fish tank but I didn't see fish. Just algae. We were seated quickly and despite being extremely busy with a large party, our server was at the table quickly for drinks and our order. The menu has the standard southern variety of southern fish camps, which is basically anything you can bread and throw in a deep far fryer. There was nothing memorable, and nothing that would bring me back there to eat. It seems to be quite popular with the local crowd, and I'm not sure why that is. I don't believe I will be returning to this restaurant because I just didn't get a good feel of it, and I didn't really enjoy the food all that much. read more

Mayfair Seafood is the Best. We've been coming here for many years and it is our favorite. The fish is always fresh and perfectly cooked. I usually order the friend oysters or Jumbo shrimp and occasionally the flounder or scallops. They are all terrific. Husband loves the flounder best. We go about twice a month as we seldom eat out unless we head to Charlotte. I've eaten at lots of fish restaurants within close to an hour drive, and this is my favorite, and I'm lucky I live in town. read more

How many second chances do you give a place? Well, after two second chances - that's right, three visits - I'm done with this place. I'll make the extra drive to Catawba to get quality seafood. Price isn't the issue, but when you order a large Green shrimp plate and they fill it with half popcorn shrimp and half green shrimp, that's just shady. Food portions were BIG. We had the calamari for appetizer --- wasn't bad. They put pepperoncini peppers on them ... it was very good and a twist on a common appetizer. My wife ordered for us and she chose one of the platters (fried) that combined fish, shrimp, scallops and oyster along with french fries and cole slaw. We couldn't eat it all. This is your typical family restaurant for locals (and lucky tourists who discover it) with an extensive menu with something for everyone. We went back several times while visiting North Carolina. The prices were unbelievably very low for the quality and quantity of the dish. There was enough leftover for another meal. I was happy that my 3 picky eaters enjoyed the food as well. The freshness of the food each time we visited never failed. Service was fast and friendly with drink refills surprisingly coming without asking - very attentive stuff. Horrible service (or COMPLETE lack thereof). Showed up at 5:15pm was told it was would be 20 minutes. After 45 minutes we had to ask what was going on. We were told there were reservations in front of us. One of those reservations was for 7pm, but they showed up an hour early. Meanwhile there were two tables empty. So only after we complained about it did they seat us in one of those tables. After being seated we waited almost 15 and nobody came to our table.
