It's been almost a decade since I've been here...but recently, we visited for dinner. The place looked just as I remembered it...but felt a few things were missing. Still, there were an abundant variety of items. The thing that impressed me the most was their ramen-noodle bar! Think this was the first buffet place that had that. Also, they had an unusual assortment of dessert items. Guess the thing I didn't love was their sushi rolls. As tempting as they looked, they just didn't taste too fresh...but that's a given, in that I don't think I've ever had truly amazing sushi roll in any buffet place. The food was decent, but unfortunately the service completely ruined the experience. My dad and I were finishing our meal around 8:45 pm, and the restaurant closes at 9 pm. Our server started pushing us to pay while we were still eating. I politely asked if I could pay at the front like I normally do, but she didn't speak English and became very pushy and rude. They began removing dishes from the table before closing time and before giving any kind of last call. I asked to speak with the manager, but when he arrived he also did not speak English, so there was no real way to properly explain the situation. At 9:01 pm we were basically told to leave. I completely understand restaurants have closing times, but there is a respectful way to handle it, usually by giving customers a heads-up and allowing them time to finish their meal instead of rushing them out the door. As someone who worked in restaurants when I was younger, I know that basic communication and courtesy are essential. What also felt uncomfortable was the atmosphere among the staff. The employees seemed extremely nervous and afraid to speak or explain anything, which made the whole situation feel strange and unsettling. It honestly gave the impression that they were scared to say the wrong thing or do anything outside of strict instructions, which was sad to witness. I saw this place while driving around the Matthews vicinity. The parking lot was not crowded and there was probably a good reason. It wasn't the food quality. The variety and amount is very good at this Asian buffet but the surprise is that lunch will cost you 30 dollars per person. I am not a lobster or crab person so I really don't go after the higher price items. I was impressed with the cleaniness especially the bathrooms. The ice cream is served individual containers and it's Hershey's brand and not a generic label. The hibachi has a noodle soup area that offers 5 varieties and that is unique. I minus one star because the rice on sushi wasn't fresh as once you put on your mouth. I almost choke because it wasn't soft but then quickly I drank water. Have seen a mssive amount of 5 star and 4 star reviews on Google but mostly without description - and now I suspect they were done by employees or relatives of the owner. Ate there 6 months ago - some things were good and some not so good. Hoped I'd see improvement. But sadly, the food was worse than 6 months ago. -- definitely not worth $30 or even less. Note: the attending person clearing the plates and bringing a beverage was attentive and helpful, but the management not very professional. First the food: My favs: lobster, crab claws, duck. LOBSTER : 6 months ago the lobster shells had next to nothing in them. This time it was lobster claws: but they were covered with a lot of sauce all over the shell, hard to handle, and the lobster meat was so salty, it was inedible. One images loading with a ton of sauce and salt is only to camouflage something. It was inedible. CRAB CLAWS : 6 months ago they were large and delicious, though cold. Now, still cold, they were half the size, not quite as tasty, and like others wrote in their Yelp reviews, the crab claws cold and the tray not filled wihen empty for long periods of time. ROAST DUCK: 6 months ago the duck was all uncooked fat on the outisde, not fully cooked duck meat inside, gross, inedible. Now they were fried beyond a crisp, burnt to no meat left inside. Inedible. OTHER FOODS: The sea bass was very good like last time. There was no Stone Crab like last time. Like last time, the small fried crabs barely had any meat to them, too small too fried. SERVICE: While the attending person to the table was attentive and helpful, management was not. In a large room of 15 tables, 12 were empty. So it was surprising that the hostess wanted place an infant in a very tall baby carriage within a few inches behind my head, 3 dhilren and 2 adults at the table. Since I had 6 plats full of food already on the able, unable to move myself, I politely asked the hostess if one of the other 12 empty tables could be used. Oddly, insead she decided she had to move them to different room. (This seemed so unprofessional - re placing at that table adn then not even using another table in the room.) 10 minutes later a small man came to scream at me saying his customers can sit where they want and that I could leave. He yelled for 10 minutes (caring about where his customers could sit) but not caring for distrubing the peace of those at 2 tables near me. Regardless of unprofessional runnijng of a restaurant -- my review of the food stands the same as a warning to thers re how they spend their money. The food is not quality and certainly not worth $32. Note: Am told Gastonia has an all you can eat seafood buffet that is very good. Also of Note: The China Buffet on E. Independence in Matthews, all you can eat buffet is very good. Their soups made on the spot at the hibachi area are extremely good and their food is very fresh and good. read more

Two stars but would be better if they at least tried to enforce mask mandates. Yes, when the church crowd comes in at 12:30 and NONE of them are wearing their masks properly, it's time for me to go. Not wearing them at the host stand, no wearing them while they rearrange tables (party of 16, yeah, that's not social distancing.) and not wearing them as they fill their plates. I wrapped up immediately and departed. Other patrons were wearing masks properly and of course, the staff was wearing theirs. I really liked the disposable gloves that were set out on the buffet stations so that tongs could be reused safely. That was great. As for the food. the sushi station was great. Some nigiri and maki rolls and a few deep fried maki (this is the South, of course) and it was all fresh. Hibachi station was doing good business and there is a soup station as well. One steam table was dedicated to the fried octopus and fried crabs and other more ethnic Chinese food. Others had the usual Americanized chicken and seafood was various sauces. Also fresh and definitely clean while being restocked. Nothing too spicy and nothing too innovative, but decent. Service was good and the tables were reasonably separated (other than the above). Now my parents have some weird obsession with Chinese buffers. I'm not sure if it's the love of Americanized Chinese food or the ability to eat whatever you want and as much as you want. Me however I'm not a fan of Chinese buffets. I really got my hopes up when I saw all the different options Asian Buffet and Grill had to offer. There is sushi, hibachi, a soup station and several different hot and cold food buffet options. I was most excited for the soup station. Not to many Chinese buffets have these stations and they are my favorite. The station had 6 different soups you could choose from and 4 different noodle options. I chose the curry with the rice vermicelli. The broth was not very flavorful at all. It had a very faint curry taste. My nephew got the Vietnamese pho soup. This broth seemed to have a little more flavor but was still very bland. My hibachi dinner was good. I appreciated all of the options they had for this station and the speed of the cook. He was on it! My other hot food was good from the buffet. I also liked how they had a very varied set of dishes for you to choose from. And there wasn't pizza and Mac-a-roni like some other buffets. Someone explain how those got in the mix? When we arrived the place was very empty but as we finished they were running a wait. They staff was kinda half busing the tables in the beginning of our meal and towards the end they were more on top of it because of their wait. All in all I think this Chinese buffet is a better option in the charlotte area. I just need them to give those broths some more flavor! It's a very large buffet and in the center they have a Noodle Station as well as a Hibachi grill and sushi. It will take several visits to sample all they have available, so I focused on my favorites. Pepper steak, spicy squid, Mei fun, stir fried pepper shrimp. I found some Kimchi on the salad bar and noticed that they had lychee as well as chocolate pudding. The food was amazing and much respect to the chefs and the dinning wait staff. Dinning wait staff are great at their jobs in rolling silverware, cleaning and also mopping. The bathrooms need a eye to keep on because of how messy it was in there. It was still though better than most places. I do recommend safety gaurds for the bathroom stalls so no one can peek into the stall while someone else is using the urinal (bathroom toilet). This provides privacy and security to everyperson in their own capacity in a respectful manner. I know a good business when I see one, and this one has a up scale clean enviornment, positive vibe and much of a great experience walking through the door. Variety of foods are available and the quality of the Octopus and Sushi are better than most places in surrounding areas. Personally the octopus tastes amazing. Heard about the crab legs so I went with family of 5. I think you get what you pay for. Crabs did not taste fresh. A lot of the legs were rubbery. Sushi did not look at all appealing. The sushi bar same thing, cooks hard to understand that you only wanted veggie sushi. I waited thirty minutes to eat after I had to call over a manager for assistance to make. However at first the manager said you have to be charged for veggie sushi. I was like really and then he thought about it and they prepared a dozen for me. For $22.95 save your money. Came here on a sunday afternoon. I was scared they were gonna be slammed but they really weren't that busy! They have a huge selection of food. They had a salad station which I did not touch lol. I first went to the noodle bar. I got my soup with udon noodles and was surprised at how much they gave me. It was good but I would definitely ask for half of that portion next time. They had an assortment of asian food and a hibachi station. I didn't get a chance to get hibachi because I was too full. I tried their assortment of asian food and it was all good.
