10/10 ! I am a seafood lover, and this exceeded my expectation. I recently went here for my birthday dinner with my family and everyone loved it. Most of us got this platter which is the captain's platter. It came with devil crab, Jumbo, shrimp, baby shrimp, scallops, oysters, a piece of flounder and one side of your choice in which I got a baked sweet potato. It was so much food. I literally was able to eat off the plate three times. You can literally share the plate with someone! It's not overpriced and everything was cooked fresh. I'm not even a fan of coleslaw and it was actually pretty good. 10 out of 10. I highly recommend. We did have a wait, they were busy but it was all worth it. The staff were nice and friendly!! Never had a bad meal here. There is such a variety of options that it's hard to go wrong. My daughter treated me to a birthday dinner here, along with her boyfriend, and after a brief wait in line for the doors to open, we were promptly seated. I went with one of the fried platters, featuring catfish, scallops, and clam strips. It was way too much for me to finish and I ended up taking most of it home. It was all delicious, but I'll bet I can make at least two more meals out of it. Oh, and the hushpuppies are to die for. The best hushpuppies I've gotten anywhere - and the honey "butter" completes the experience. It's a popular place. Always crowded. We ordered the cheese sticks as an appetizer and they were good but not great. I ordered the pick two and split it between one broiled item (Alaskan Whitefish) and one fried item (Jumbo Shrimp). Side item was the baked potato and when you get the two items, you get another side which we turned into a salad. The fish and shrimp were delicious. The potato was super hot and good as well. The salad as the second side item was a big win because with all the food you get in an order, take the salad home and eat it the next day. I was so disappointed Saturday afternoon. My friend and I went to eat, food was good, service was good, then we got the bills. I paid cash, she paid with a debit card. Both bills were charged a $1 upgrade fee, and both of us were charged for paying with a credit card. Her bill was charged for a large oyster dinner and she had a small one. She questioned the bill and was told that her bill was correct so I never asked. I do know we will not be going back anytime soon. I thought I saved the receipt but now I can't find it. They bring a complimentary basket of hushpuppies, just too good to eat a few, before I knew it, I had eaten them all! I had the broiled flounder filet and it was outstanding! Nice size portion, great flavor and well seasoned. It comes with cole slaw which is about the best store bought I've had around York/Mecklenburg county. I also got a baked potato which was good, They automatically bring you a tube of sour cream and some butter. It was really good too and a big one. I also got an order of the She Crab soup, oh my goodness! Just outstanding, the best I've had outside of Maryland & New Orleans. Fresh, flavorful and tasty, you MUST try it, you will not be disappointed. They have a really good overall menu selection with broiled/fried seafood, chicken, steaks, burgers and salads. Something for everyone and a nice kids menu as well. The don't serve alcohol of any kind. They have a special area adjacent to the main building where you can pick-up your to-go orders, can you say efficient? I haven't eaten at a Steve's in quite some time since the Monroe road location perhaps 2016/2017 a newbie to the area. I was hesitant for many months to try them again because it wasn't that great. An employee confidently assured that it was ran by different owner with completely different batter and everything. Everything was quite good except for the potato salad and crab cake. Crab cake was a little salty and the potato salad was more like mash potatoes with a few potato salad ingredients. The fish was peppery. Not bad but not use to my fish being spiced. No mayo detected. Like many seafood restaurants, there's a takeout waiting space near the front entrance. Lots of space with seating plus options for dessert and drinks to purchase if desired. There was little to no wait depending on how large your order will be. I will come back and maybe try the seafood pasta. read more

This is a huge and busy restaurant. But surprisingly, there was no wait time for dinner on a weekend! Ordered the grilled snapper. Although it had a good flavor, it was a bit overcooked. It was hard to chew. Also ordered a side of fried ocean perch. It tasted great when we first got it, but heated up not so much. The complimentary hush puppies were excellent. The side of coleslaw was also good. Baked potatoe was huge, and side of grilled scallops were tasty, but undercooked. The seafood at Captain Steve's is consistently good. My favorite is the jumbo shrimp. I drive 50 minutes to the restaurant. My only critique is to pack to go orders with what needs to be kept cold separately from the hot food. My two salads, butter, sour cream and tartar sauce were all packed in one bag with my two hot platters. Captain Steve's has the best salads. I wanted them to remain chilled and crisp. Next time I'll bring my own bags because I definitely will be back. The food is that good. I also left a nice tip. read more

I held my 29th birthday party here (I'm 38 now) and the staff accommodated my large party (30+ ppl) with such ease. Like most restaurants, Captain Steve's offers takeout and it quickly became one of my go tos for meals during the height of the pandemic. It's been awhile since I've been to Captain Steve's and from my last visit, nothing has changed and that' great. When you arrive you will see the parking lot full and when you get inside you can expect to wait 10'to 20 minutes depending on how busy they are and they stay busy. The service is impressive considering that they are constantly busy and no pint throughout the evening did our waitress forget about us. The atmosphere is very lively, crowded and hectic but it fades into the background when you enjoying your meal. I ordered the Fries Flounder platter with Fries on the side. The portion size is huge for the cost of the meal. I got 4 pieces of flounder on my dinner plate and let's say that I didn't finish my meal. The flounder was cooked and seasoned perfectly and it definitely has a fish fry feel to it. The cole slaw and hush puppies were fresh and delicious and they will bring you as many hush puppies as you want. My daughter ordered the Chicken Alfredo and she loved it. The portion size was enormous and she couldn't finish it However, she brought it home and finished the next day. Food is great and hot. Due to some medical challenges it is necessary for some customers to order pick up. The service is quick a and always friendly. Only hindrance with that area is trying to pick food up. Some individuals have to have assistance, with walking and it's necessary to have, a walker, cane or some other equipment I have seen them struggle with opening doors, and then carrying food out. This has been my go-to place for fried seafood for a long time. I had a craving, so I went today to pick up lunch. I'm happy to announce that it still holds up! I got the flounder plate which was a huge portion for it be lunch-sized. The pieces of fish were meaty and seasoned (although I could use even more S+P b/c I like spice). Anyway, the hushpuppies are always a hit! Crispy with a little bit of sweetness cooked into them (but don't sleep on taking them to the next level with that honey butter!) My baked potato was fluffy and still very hot by the time I got home. I've had the onion rings in the past, and they're great too! BONUS: exceptional call in/pick up process.
