The food was delicious and plentiful. The place was packed, but we were seated fairly quickly. The ambiance was lively, you can tell this was a "locals" spot in the best way. Best seafood restaurant in a 50 mile radius , but what is more impressive is that other non seafood items such as the pasta and meat specials are better than other restaurants in their respective fields of expertise. Huge portions of creek shrimp and flounder! Everyone needs a to go box but it warms up beautifully in the air fryer for lunch the next day. This place is always busy, which is a great sign but the line moves quickly. I come here when I need some calabash shrimp and it's too far of a drive to North Myrtle Beach or Murrells Inlet. My first visit to the Ft. Mill restaurant was in the '90s, before any renovations. Actually it was the only location. The food is still delicious and the service is fast, friendly and accommodating. This is not my first time here, I've been coming her for at least 15 years. I came here to eat with my family as we normally do. I have two handicap people (parking permit) with us, they had the handicap spots blocked off. All the other handicap spots were taken. I asked the police officer if we could park there, he told me he was instructed to block it as per the owner for foot traffic and it would be open later for dinner. A young stopped me on my way back to my car and told me she would bring me my food when I ordered it, I told her I wanted to sit down and eat, she said ok and turned around heading back to the take out area. I found this very insensitive to recurring handicap customers. The attitudes I received made me feel like stay or leave, we don't care. This is a busy spot...we got there about 6pm on a Saturday and were told that we had a 60 to 90 minute wait. We called a couple of other places to see and most had a wait so we decided to stick it out. 35 minutes later, I got a text saying that our table was ready. Sat down and they immediately brought out hush puppies and honey butter. They were delicious! Took our order, my bride and I split a plate of salt & pepper catfish and jumbo shrimp and I ordered a bowl of she crab soup. The soup was excellent. This was my first time here and I'm disappointed in myself that I never came sooner! We came right when they opened so we didn't have to wait. We got sat right away and the server was friendly. I got my daughter the shrimp plate for kids. It's a great portion of popcorn shrimp and fries and even better that it's free with an adult entree. I got the pick three with clam strips, shrimp, and catfish fish filets. My side item was onion rings. I was shocked at the portion I got. Huge platter piled way up high. Definitely worth the price. I'm new to the fish camp game in the south, but amongst the options out there, I am convinced this is the one to go to. Great fried food, but easy to over do it (mouth bigger than stomach). This place is a staple and always packed. Salt and pepper breading FTW. Hush Puppies are addictive, but too sweet for me. Sides of coleslaw are a happy, very little accident that breaks up the fried tediousness of the fish and shrimp...oh and the shrimp were wonderful. They were perfect, juicy, and large. The collards had a good bite to them, but lacked flavor. I wasn't a fan of it here but I ate it so it was eatable! I've had better! Then we ordered dinner. I ordered a large order of crab legs and the hubs ordered the salmon dinner. I failed to ask just what a large order was. Come to find out it was enough for 5 people! Wow it was a lot ! I did my best but there was a to go box cause it was way too much. No way to beat Captain Steve's for fried seafood in this part of the country. Very reasonable prices and generous portions with taste equivalent of coastal restaurants. The Fort Mill location is the only one I've ever been to and the only one I'll ever go to because no way can it be better anywhere else for fried seafood. read more

I would normally give Captain Steve's a 4 or 5 stars-but the last time I was in the restaurant with my trainer and friend, it was embarrassing because we both felt unwelcome. The service was a 5 star up until we brought up the subject Sylvester Stallone. We just simply said we liked Sylvester Stallone movies and the next thing you know, some of the waiters & waitresses started acting cold. One of the waitresses with the long dark curly hair and glasses (white) was acting as if she wanted us to leave. That was unprofessional and uncalled for. I don't know what their issue was with Sylvester Stallone but it was quite embarrassing as I had bragged about the place being friendly with good food. The food was excellent (as usual) but the service was not. They almost ignored us until I said I was going to cut down on the tip and then they got real friendly (like they normally were to me). I don't understand it because other customers talk about politics and weren't treated this way. I don't think the owner Steve would approve of this problem. Sure, you might argue that they were crowded and trying to make room for other customers. The problem with that theory though is that it wasn't crowded and nobody was even outside waiting that day. I'm not even sure if my friend would like to come back or not. May I add, too that he was an actor or model for clothing as well. I feel as though we were both owed an apology for the rude service we received. But, at least the woman with the long red hair was more than nice to us and did show me respect. This place was amazing! The service was A-1 and the crew always had a smile. This was my first time here since a friend recommended it and I'm so glad I came. The ordered the fried captains platter and it was well worth it. The flounder, jumbo shrimp and baby shrimp were all cooked to perfection. The seafood was thick and juicy like it should be I am not a huge fan of oysters so I skipped them and gave them to my mom. She says they were delicious. Captain Steve's never disappoints! We arrived Friday at 3:15 (they opened at 4) there was a line. When they opened at 4 there were 50 or 60 people in line. You'd expect some problems with that many people. The staff was amazing!!! They moved everyone in quickly, had drinks, and hush puppies moving! Extremely organized. We had multiple waiters attending to us. All drinks refilled and meals on the table within 10 minutes of ordering. Hot and fresh, catfish strips, fried jumbo shrimp and deviled crab!! My family and I have always enjoyed dining in at Captain Steve's. The food is always plentiful and it's delicious--the hushpuppies and tartar sauce are enough to fill us up before we even get to the entrees! We also receive great service each visit. This Mother's Day in particular, I was extremely pleased and appreciative. My family was unable to gather as a group this year, so I thought to inquire on bulk/catering orders. I was happy to hear that they are available. I called the restaurant the Saturday before Mother's Day and the ladies I spoke to were so helpful, as I was unable to view the catering menu on the website and they patiently helped me to understand what their options were. On Mother's Day, I arrived right at the promised time it would be ready and everything was on point! The service at the to-go area was great, and a young man helped load all the food into my car. There was so much food, everyone was full and I made them go home with multiple to-go plates! We'll definitely all be back soon but it's great to know that there are alternative options that Captain Steve's provides that taste just as great, and without having to wait in line.
