We are still in the process of having this company install our solar system and the communication and follow through with Freedom Solar is terrible. There is no one in charge of the project and you speak to someone new each time and there never seems to be any follow through. They did not show up for the site assessment and ended up having to reschedule after we waited all day for their arrival. We have had multiple phone calls asking for the same thing and each time it is promised to be done right away, but never gets done. If I could just cancel the contract at this point I would as I have no faith that it is going to get done right or on time. 1 Star - Extremely Disappointed, Unsafe Work & No Accountability If I could give less than 1 star, I would. Freedom Solar Power caused major damage to my brand-new home during a solar panel installation on July 24, 2024. Their technicians destroyed my AC system, caused a roof crack in my living room, and burned out my sprinkler control box--which could have started a fire when power was restored. I immediately reported everything to their sales rep and area manager. Their onsite technicians (Nathaniel Vaughn & Mark) even called an outside AC technician themselves to assess the damage, so there's no question who caused it. But instead of taking responsibility, their management denied the issue, blamed me, and completely ignored my requests for help. It's been over two weeks without AC in the Houston heat, risking my health (I have asthma) and disrupting my business. What's worse: No apology. No accountability. No follow-up. Just silence. I made the decision to trust Freedom Solar and signed the deal the same day they visited--no games, no haggling. But they completely betrayed that trust. If this is how they handle installation, imagine the next 25 years of "warranty." I've filed formal complaints and will be taking legal action. In my honest opinion, I wish I could go back in time and never get my solar panels with freedom solar. I thought they were going to look at all of my energy needs and design a system that would provide exactly that. I feel like they did not. Not only did I have to self diagnose the issue with my solar, I had a very difficult time getting heard. Finally after months of trying to get the issue fixed. I get told I have to fix the issue. The furnace that was in my house BEFORE the solar panels were installed requires too much energy which then causes the power wall to shut off and then in turn left me with a $300 electric bill since the solar panels did not work anymore. Call me crazy but I would think checking to make sure the furnace that was there already would be powered by the solar panels . But I was told they do not check and make sure that happens. And that actually no solar company does that. You spend thousands of dollars but to me I feel they don't care enough to make sure you do not freeze or get overheated because I was told they do not check to make sure it works. I had to sit in my house freezing because I couldn't afford to turn on my furnace. Just to wait months and get told I need to replace it. When it was there first. I do not feel heard, I do not feel they care about customers, I feel like I got scammed. I would not go with them a second time. I have tried talking with managers and upper management. No luck. Even tried to get a tech out to just look over the system one more time. But since I was told there is no issues on their end everything is working as it should, they would charge me. read more

First they did show up on time- good start. However, that is where it ended being good. This was my first contact with a solar company in residential usage. I have some prior experience with solar in an industrial setting. Freedom's Rep attempted to use high pressure sales techniques including trying to get you to believe that you may miss out if you don't buy now, failing to understand why a home owner, would get quotes for everyone. They tried to make it seem like they have to get permitting in the city, not knowing that I am not in any city where I am located, meaning they did not do their homework before showing up. They thought, I don't know anything about permitting in Harris County and then they got upset when I disagreed with them about the process. I have gotten permits, it is not some arduous process but pretty simple and not expensive. The rep was "well I can see this is not a productive conservation" and went to their vehicle. Said " I drove forty minutes to be here". I told her, it is her job in sales to come and sell people. High Pressure sales do not work on me. If you want to sell me something, show me the products, show me you know what you are talking about, lets talk numbers and then the little details of the process. Trying to guilt trip your customer, shows me your rep should not being doing sales. I can not recommend your company to anyone, but I will recommend to everyone not to. read more

They have bad customer service I called them about the panels not working and the Telsa power wall not working. 4 weeks later they came and fix the panels but left no fixing the power wall. They need to send another tech out. The lead tells me they only had two techs. How can a solar company in Houston have only two tech guys n the field. They sold me the panels under the impression that they monitor the system in which they don't. I have to keep the system on my application and monitor them myself. Hello. To everyone I would like to say that. The sales person name (Jose Palacios) was not the person we expected. And definitely not a honest person more of lies I would describe it.. i bought a complete solar system paid $89,000. For it and come to find out I got less panel's installed. Also this been going on for a year. 4/08/2022. Till this day. Notting has been taken care of I still can't use my solar due to a error on the meter. I changed 3 POWER PROVIDER. And they all say the same thing. I call and speak to numerous of person at the Freedom Solar number they gave me. And I call to figure out exactly whats going on with my system. And they say there going to get a ticket maid. Never received a call back until I call.. the gentleman that came and install the power wall battery in my garage he drill straight thru my kitchen cabinets. And that was never fix nor replace. NEVER RECEIVED ANY DOCUMENTS ON THE SOLAR SYSTEM NOR WARRANTY PAPERWORK. How I was told from the day one.. that i was going to receive them. This is a horrible company to do business with. We got a power generator on Dec 1, which part of the process is to disconnect the solar system. We called this company who refused to even put us on the service list unless we paid them $400. Which we did, here we are 2.5 months later and can not get them to call us back. Meanwhile we are having to pay the power company instead of getting paid for our solar production. Highly dissatisfied and we will be suing them shorty. read more

Erica also gave us list of addresses for installations Freedom Solar performed around us so we were also able to see how clean and professional Freedom Solar work was. The part where most of the time is lost are HOA/City/Electric Provider approvals. Once we got approved by HOA, Freedom Solar Crew and electrician (Mark) completed installation in two days! (3 hours for panels and 3 hours for electrician to install boxes and wiring. Both installation crew and electrician were quick, focused and professional (I was watching electrician while he was working and was amazed how that guy approached his job). He was also able to answer every question I had for him - he also showed me how much panels are producing compared to what was the usage just to give me a hint. SCAM. SCAM. SCAM. They must pay for these reviews that are so good because our entire experience with them has been shady, dishonest, and infuriating in every sense of the word. I also have a friend who is dealing with her own problems from their complete lack of communication, and exaggeration to the point of fabrication. Beware, you will not get the credit on your taxes unless you pay in the same amount or more in taxes (that is not anyone in the middle class). We have found an over $2000 discrepancy between the amount of the loan and what the contract states the loan was for, that apparently cannot be answered for. We have now had the solar panels for over six months and almost no months have we produced the guaranteed 100% energy, much less anywhere near the promised extra. We are now paying dramatically more each month for our electricity, on top of the $277 solar payment (that will go up soon since we won't have the $22k "tax rebate" to go towards the loan to keep the amount down). Don't think for a second any of the claims made during the sales pitch will be included on the contract! After all the guarantees and assurances, the only thing listed on the contract is that it will cost 10% of the loan amount to get them to remove your panels. Which is a smooth $8k for us. Yup, $80k for solar that can't produce even half our energy needs (that haven't changed since signing up, I've checked!) No help after weeks of calls and e-mails. Save yourself the heartache and the thousands of wasted dollars. read more

These people are grossly mismanaged. Installers, for the most part, know what they're doing although they're a little lazy. Office crew and supervision are a complete clown show. Can't email/phone when schedule changes and THEY DON'T SHOW UP TO A SCHEDULED APPT. Crew supervisor for Denver metro area is clueless and probably the worst customer service/support person I've seen for any company in a long time. These guys don't listen and are so arrogant they think they can do anything they want on an install and get away with it. System design was wrong, electrician showed up without correct equipment, pushed install off 2 weeks because they screwed up, didn't show up for 9/5 appt., ASSUMED I could be there 2 days later to babysit them without asking, didn't tell me there was an alternate plan to running wire until AFTER I'd moved stuff in the garage for them FOR THE 2ND TIME. Scheduling is a mess, supervision is a mess, contract grossly BIASED towards them(they will make you sign away consumer protections passed by the state of Colorado to protect you from scheisters in this industry), consumer contact system is a joke(you'll never be able to talk to someone other than the receptionist and they cannot/will not return a phone call unless you rattle the cage several times). I've run bigger operations than this one and I would take a BIG broom through this place and clean house if I was in charge. Blame it on millenials, covid, job market-whatever you want. There are still companies out there that execute, make phone calls when they should, allow customer contact, do what they say, etc. This isn't one of them. Not very impressed so far. Panels installed last October, electrical completed in November and still waiting for utility inspection before system can be put into operation. I have tried elevating my concerns but receive little or no response or action. Their customer service representatives show compassion while listening to concerns but of the 3 phone calls I have made not one has had a follow-up call. In meantime I am paying on the loan since the clock starts running when the panels are installed. I know they have been around for a while, and I did my due diligence before signing up, but it's been a disappointment since I still do not have a working system and have buyer's remorse. We had Freedom Solar Power install our panels a couple of weeks ago and were very happy with the installation. Our salesman Gene was very patient and knowledgeable and did not use high sales pressure. The electrician is also to be commended for the work that he did which he was very detailed in explaining what he was doing. They were very prompt and cleaned everything up. We love the look of the panels and we are learning how to use the app which is very cool looking. We were prepared that it could be a couple of months after installation for us to get the permission to operate from Centerpoint, but to our surprise, the pto came one week later. I appreciate seeing the nice big vans that the electrician and installers are equipped with. They also worked very safely on the roof. They also called and communicated with us while we waited for our installation. It is scary, since we don't really know a lot about solar, but we are patient to learn and we feel Freedom is a good company to help us partner with. Part of the reason we chose them, is that they have partnered with a very well established company that makes the panels and they don't just sub out their work. I feel they will stand behind their product for the long haul. read more

I explored getting Solar with Freedom Forever. While working with the agent, he had me log in to Mosaic Solar loans to see if I would qualify for a solar loan. I was suspicious of the questions they were asking but the rep assured me that I was not signing up for a loan but just granting permission for them to check my credit. I decided against the solar panels, but I received a credit alert a few months later that my credit score had dropped due to the $13,000 loan I had taken out with Mosaic. I contacted Mosaic and they told me they had already made a payment on my behalf for the installation equipment. Bit I had not agreed to get anything installed! And I didn't hear boo from the Freedom First rep. He has not replied to my texts. Mosaic did say they would cancel the loan and get the installation money back, but I should not have had to go to all this trouble because the agent lied about the paperwork I was filling out! Nice people, very knowledgeable, good process, good warranties, but jaw-dropping expensive. Quoted for over $4 a watt installed on a 17 kw system. (Tesla is running at $2.03 - excluding ITC. Other quotes at $2.35 - excluding ITC.) SunPower modules are nice, but not twice the price nice IMO. Yes, some other modules "may" degrade by an additional 10% over 25 years. If you care about that (I don't) you can oversize the build by 10% and it will increase your cost by 10%. No big deal. The SunPower modules have a bit better power density so you need slightly less area (20.5 watts per sq foot vs 17.5 watts on a Tesla 340 or an REC 310 or 19 watts for a Longi 375 module) but unless you have extreme space constraints it should not be a huge deal. Shop around! read more

It is very important that customers understand how this company works. I signed up on a contract around Sept. 2022 Freedom Solar. Before going to the contract, I discussed with the sales representative that I have issues with the electrical panel and the roof. The guy who came to my house to do an inspection of existing conditions only addressed the roof. I mentioned that I also have issues with the electrical panel and he said that needs to be taken care of by somebody else. I called the sales representative and he took notes about that. He said he will request it since it is a major issue not having the power load on the breakers and being an old electrical box. The estimate for the solar panel came back at $55,000, plus additionally the roof repair. I told them that was too much, and so they responded they will take care of the roof. At this point, I mentioned to the sales representative again about the electrical panel (MPU), to which he responded he had put in the request for it. At the end of Dec. 2022, the roof was replaced and the solar panels got installed. At the time of installation, I mentioned again to the contractors about the electrical panel but they told me they don't deal with electrical installation. I asked the contractor for the supervisor's number which I called and let him know my concerns, I also called the sales representative, and I was told that an order for the MPU has been placed and is waiting for approval. So, here I am with the panels installed not functional, paying power service to the electrical company and the loan on the solar panels. The sales representative has been communicating with me. He and I have sent several emails to Freedom customer service to get this matter addressed and still today, Jan. 1, 2023, there is no response. Every time I called the number customer service number on the website it rings, but it hangs up immediately right after. There is no one to reach out to. read more

Freedom installed panels and 2 powerwalls early Dec 2020. The install went smoothly for the most part. The powerwall wasn't reading the power flow correctly due to where the clamps were initially installed, but it was eventually resolved. I'm putting it in the review because after seeing the exact same issue repeatedly in the tesla forum is seems to be a common issue and might be helpful to readers here. And there were some cosmetic things I wish were done a better, but my install was atypical (requiring some trenching and lots of conduit) and I am pretty picky about fit and finish. Definitely not deal breaker issues and overall Im a pretty satisfied customer. I'm having them install a 3rd powerwall (for my peace of mind after going thru the Feb freeze), which is a process that dragged a little longer than I would've liked. But that issue has also been addressed in an impressively quick, and professional manner. read more

We researched several different solar companies and Freedom Solar using Sunpower panels and enphase micro inverters came out the best price with a quality product. Shannon Munden, the Houston manager, found us a great last minute rebate with Green Mountain that brought the price below others lesser proposals. I really enjoy the microinverters from enphase as you get really good reports on how the solar system is working. The process to install seems to take forever, but that mostly appeared to be delays from all the power company (centerpoint) requirement and our local city permit/inspection process. From contract signature to install was about four months. All during the process Freedom Solar has been very attentive to my questions and where we were in the process. The after install support has also been very good. While you cannot get the same rebate (expired), I strongly recommend this company. They have a good history in Austin and I think they will be around for a while which is important as solar warranties run 20+ years. read more

Our experience with Freedom Solar was simply the best it could possibly be. Shannon Munden, the sales and "go to" person knew all about the system, it's efficiency, and the best ways to finance it and to receive the tax credit. The system was installed when the said it would and the Tesla Power Wall we purchased was here months early. The installation crew were terrific. They finished long before I thought they would. They were polite and efficient. Simply a wonderful and seamless experience. The operation of the system was fully explained and I now go out on a daily basis to look at my meter.
