The atmosphere is exactly what you want, laid back, welcoming, and full of character. But the real star of the show is the food... specifically the burgers. I can confidently say it's the best burger I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and you can tell they take pride in what they're serving. The staff is always friendly, service is solid, and it just has that local spot feel that keeps you coming back. This place is cool. Hubby and I have been here before, and really like both restaurants in this little border town. I'm an Iowa gal who loves a good pork tenderloin sandwich, and Fred's has the best one I've tried out West. If you aren't familiar with them, they are supposed to be the size of a manhole cover on a bun. You see my pic, right lol? They've got it as it should be. Holy crap, it's a quansat hut with a fake olde-timey saloon facade! Who knew? That's a surprise because it's gotta lotta space--inside--you don't expect. I've heard about their burgers for years, and finally got a chance to try, camping nearby. Went with a 'Hulapeño' burger, which is basically a Hawaiian burger with jalapenos infused with the beef. I didn't get any feel of heat with the burger, but it was darned satisfying. Big, big special note for their house Clam Chowder, though. Came here during a memorial ride, where there were hundreds of riders in this tiny little town. Service was still fast. The staff were working their asses off. Food portions are large. Four egg ham and cheese omelet, and it was good. We had to wave off half the toast because we couldn't eat any more. They have a water bowl inside for dogs, so it's pet friendly. Just laid back vibes, with indoor and outdoor seating. I had no idea this place existed. But it does exist, and it's pretty friggin' cool. read more

My sister went in there last night because they have on their menu that there are gluten free options. Including on the online. She has celiacs disease. While she was asking questions the lady told her "you probably shouldn't eat here if you're worried about seasonings". Seasonings are not the issue it's the gluten. Some seasons contain wheat. The diet and the disease of it are two completely different things. We know not everyone is educated in it, but advertising it takes training employees differently. It's very difficult when it is advertised but workers don't know anything about it. After she got done eating another customer over heard and told her about the gluten free options. She says her food was good but we have hope that if it's gonna be advertised employees can gain more knowledge on the topic. read more

I've been wanting to try out some additional small town establishments and today worked out to do just that. Fredneck's was my target and I'm glad I made this my stop. The outside looks like a bit of an old saloon and inside is a pretty spacious bar and eatery. There are probably 20 seats at the bar and the rest of the area is filled with regular and high tables. Neon and metal beer signs pretty much round out the decor. I found the tables and floor to be pretty clean in the dining area. I was greeted right away by the waitress and offered a seat anywhere. I chose in front of the massive projection television to watch some baseball. I was asked what I wanted for a drink and for me it was a cola day and was offered either Coke or Pepsi. This is because they sell the soda by the can. I was also given specials info and today it was the meatloaf sandwich or any number of chili products. I went with the meatloaf. My sandwich arrived and it was perfectly cooked and the meat was cut thick and sized to the bread. The grilled onions on it were also cooked to perfection. My side choice was tater tots and they were also nice and crisp without any greasiness to them. Overall a very nice lunch and I'll definitely be coming back to try regular menu items. I love Frednecks, it has gone through some changes over the last 40+ years I have had the pleasure to stop in. I've lived 6 miles away to 80 doing the Bovill Run. Those were the days! Fred and Lou still hang out allowing their children to take over, leaving it in Pete's capable hands. He's turned it into a gourmet restaurant! He uses only the finest grass fed beef, vegetables, etc from local farmers. He's got vegan/vegetarian options or just ask, the chef will make it for you! Local beers. I have lived in the spokane area for 20 years and have driven past Fredneck's about 100 times over the years, but this is my first time actually stopping in. It very casual, come as you are vibe. The regulars are a fun bunch and they keep it entertaining. Bar wise, it's a full bar liquor, beer and wine. While the beer selection was small (8 ish taps) they keep an interesting mix, including a couple I haven't tried before. The Hubs for the pork chop Sammy with tater tots and I ordered the Pulled pork Hawaiian Sammy with onion rings. The applewood smoked pork is tender and flavorful. I think the pulled pork was the winner and so were the beer battered onion rings. So delicious ....and they don't do that annoying thing where they make onion rings that are too big to eat. They were all just the right size for dipping. We felt right at home as soon as we arrived and we had such a good time that I don't mind driving 25 miles to experience it again. It's definitely worth a stop each and every time you're in Rockford. read more

Out of the way place, but worth the drive if you enjoy something different. Walking in,you get the impression that this is more bar than grill, but that changes when you see the menu. This Bar and Grill offers a nice broad menu with good food. The beef is understood to be sourced from local farmers. It was good, although a bit over cooked. However my wife commented that her's was amazing. A fun place with a lot of personality. Service is spectacular. Prices are reasonable. read more

I can't believe only 3 people have reviewed this place. I've been here a handful of times over the last few years, with the most recent being New Year's Eve 2016, so just a few days ago. Each visit they've offered me vegetarian variations of the menu and don't make me feel weird about it. The locals have a love for the place that's obvious and they are friendly toward out-of-towners too. My favorite bartenders are Dawn and Delease, who are down-to-earth and very funny women. Delease let me take shots out of their "fancy" shot glasses on New Year's Eve as long as I brought them back. The owner, Pete and his lady, Hannah, were there hanging out with everyone on New Year's and came up and said hi to my group and made us feel welcome. He even let us dance in the bubbles from the bubble machine playing near the live band (I'm pretty sure he thought we were hilarious). I left my purse there and Delease was sure my friends went home with it so I would get it back. (What? I was on holiday.) Fredneck's is a really fun, come-as-you-are kind of place. Friends and I visit Rockford several times a year to shop at a great mercantile. Yesterday we decided to try Fredneck's for lunch. It was a little rough looking and smelled a little stale but the food was pretty good. We had decided we made a pretty good choice until one patron (presumable named Brandon) got up to leave and the obnoxious political chant began. Good lord! Regarding atmosphere, the outside promises something the inside doesn't deliver. The two-story exterior looks warm and welcoming, like back-road bars you'd find in the deep south. Instead, the inside welcomes you with bright fluorescent lights and tacky decor. I love dive bars, but Frednecks is missing something. The locals obviously love it, and it was great to get that experience. Service was really slow, and the lone bartender had to deal with about 30 customers by herself. A second employee on busy nights would be helpful. It was interesting to see all the old drunken men stare slack-jawed at the bartender, who was attractive but also about 10 months pregnant. Regarding food and drinks: the drink selection was poor and the food I ordered was bad. There are only about 8 beers on tap, which is sad with so many good beers available locally. But if 90% of customers just want Keystone Light, having more selection wouldn't be profitable. I got the chicken wings, which were just deep fried with no sauce. I've eaten lots of hot wings, and I've never had any that were missing the sauce. Maybe the cook was drunk and forgot to add it, but it was very disappointing. To add further insult, the batter also provided me with about 700% of my daily sodium intake. I'd be willing to try another menu item, but I doubt I'll stop by again. read more

Well...frednecks is a very lively, friendly, colorful bar which serves the most elegant clam chowder on Fridays, chowder that you might expect from the cda resort. That adds so much texture right there. Prices match the quality and serving proportions. I love the way the owner just comes up and talks. Sat. and Sun. A.m. Breakfast.
