We were told about the Viking from some friends and a few months ago when we passed through they were closed at that time. This week we were able to eat here on the way out and back to Seattle. We had the deluxe burger and fries with fry sauce. The burgers and fries are great. Perfect portion and made just right. The service is great. The staff is very friendly and give great service. They have a little fenced yard we were able to bring our dog to stretch her legs while we ate. We will definitely make it a point to stop when we pass through. We are so glad our friends told us about it or we would have missed it since the exit is not big and has a gas station so unless you need gas you might miss out on this gem read more

We happen to cross the Viking drive-in when we were coming back from Spokane and needed to grab a quick bite to eat. We continue our #WashingtonBurgerQuest as we travel around the state, and this was a spot that had been on our list for a while. It's located off the main interstate by about 2 miles, and after stopping here we recommend that you do as well. Just as you get into town (Sprague) this place is located on the left in a building that looks like it's been here for quite some time and is very much a ma and pa type place. There's a marijuana store operating out of a shipping container next-door, some no matter what you're in the mood for, Viet food or wanting to be hungry for food later, this parking lot has a covered. As you would guess, there's plenty of Viking theme running through this place. We grabbed a Viking burger - if you stop here you must get the Viking burger! It's double beef, double bacon and double cheese with all the standard accompaniments on a toasted bun... Anywhere the toast the bun absolutely gets it! We've now tried about 85 places around the state of Washington in a quest for the perfect burger, and this one is definitely a top three. I will tell you this is not what we were expecting, but we were pleasantly surprised by it. The burger was flavorful, not too salty, but not bland. The meat was juicy enough to run onto your hand when you took a bite, but not so much that it dripped on you while you were eating it. That's a masterful burger! The bacon was crunchy, thick and perfectly cooked. The cheese was melted and the toasted bun gave us that little extra crunch when we bit into the burger. The little attention to detail goes a Long way when it comes to hole in the wall burgers! The tater tots and onion rings we're both salad and the chocolate, peanut butter, banana shake was delicious. As has been stated a couple times, we were not expecting to be wild by this place, but were totally impressed by what we had. This is the sort of spot that any burger lover needs to stop at, and it's the sort of place that we will make a point to hit up anytime we're driving through. read more

A great little burger joint right off the interstate as you're heading in and out of Spokane. Prefer good bang for your buck. Great history with the family who runs it and owns it. Pretty big menu! Wish I could give 4.5 stars. Have been driving by Sprague on the way to Spokane and/or Montana for a number of years. I usually get gas at the station there, and every time I'm intrigued by the big sign "Home of the famous Viking Burger". Being a burger aficionado, my curiosity finally got to me this last week when I was on the road. The Viking itself is pretty small, maybe 7-8 tables total. It was the perfect ambiance, I could telll many regulars came in. I've been on a life-long quest to find the best burgers out there, so of course I'm gonna try the Viking burger. They were having a special, the bacon cheeseburger, but I passed and went with the original, more on that later. I'll be short and to the point. It was great! Not the greatest in the world, but I'd take it over most other places. The meat was perfect, not a huge mess, I even ate the pickles (which I never do). My meal came with Lays potato chips, the person I was with got the bacon burger and fries. Told myself next time I'd get the fries too. It's hard in retrospect to put my finger on why the burger was so good, there was nothing fancy about it honestly, it was just good. Juicy. Maybe it's the decades of patina on the grill, who knows. Well wouldn't ya know it, I had to come home to Oregon and get gas on my way out. Hell, let's have another Viking burger! This time I was solo, and decided to get the bacon special. For whatever reason the second time around didn't blow me away as much. Nothing wrong with the burger, it was slightly overcooked, but good none-the-less. The crinkle cut fries were perfectly done. Considering the location of Viking, and the fact that it is run by two or three people total, it's worth a try. My boyfriend and I were making the drive from southern Idaho to western Washington and got hungry at the most inopportune time. I found Viking on Yelp, and my boyfriend was all in. We both enjoy supporting small businesses. We ordered burgers, along with a side of fries and a side of onion rings to split, and iced teas to drink. The burgers were a step above fast food burgers. However, the fries and onion rings were very good. If you are looking for fresh brewed tea, this is not the place; it comes from a jug, which is better than from the soda machine, but still. The woman who was working the counter was also the server and the milkshake maker. She was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I don't know how she does it all and still has a positive attitude, but she does. Due to the ratio of customers to employees, there was quite a wait for food, but we were okay with it. I have come to believe that either my fellow Yelpers have lost their tastebuds or are being paid to give undeserved 5 star reviews. No toasted buns. Very little seasonings. You pay extra if you want fries with your burger, otherwise you get that same bag of chips that were packed in your lunch back in 1st grade. Tots were undercooked and a bit cold upon arrival. For a little road-side divey drive-in, The Viking is really pretty good. Our hostess / waitress was the best, and our food was quite good, too. I went with the BBQ pulled pork sandwich special, and it had a nice smokey sweet flavor. The fries were thick, and fried to a nice golden brown. Our kids both ordered burgers, and while they did enjoy them, they though they were only average -- preformed frozen patties. But considering that it was better than fast food, and stopping here supported a small independent business, it was all totally worth it. Ahhh, the good ol' Viking. This place has changed hands so many times in the last 20 yrs they might as well be a hindu durga deity. Anyhoo, this current pair of hands are doing pretty darned good. Three of us were feelin' Bacon Cheesy, and of course, the youngest had her obligatory Chicken Strips, which make for a Yelp picture about as interesting as a photo of pea gravel. Our burgers were excellent. Juicy, hot, and really, really beefy flavored, with a perfect bacon compliment. I recognized our server from a different regime from years ago, and I must say has she's upped her game helping a very busy dining area. Shakes are a few dollars more than years past, but still as ridiculously large as ever. Consider splitting one between 2-3 diners and you will save your nickels. It's not, repeat, not fast food.
