Wow!! We were hungry for some Mexican food while driving home. This place is right off the highway in Ritzville. I read some good reviews about this place and wanted to heck it out. We came in and were seated right away. We got waters and chips and salsa really quick too. She got the light menu chicken enchiladas and really liked it. I got the Chile Colorado. Both meal were super hot temperature wise. I really like my Chile Colorado with the nice tender nuggets of beef with the rice and beans. Our waitress was super sweet and she gave us some really good customer service. They don't take very long either to get you your meal. This way you can eat and get back on the highway quickly. We met up here to pick up a friend and had an early dinner before heading back to Spokane. It's right off the highway and easy to park. The staff here is very friendly, helpful and attentive. They are knowledgeable about the menu and offering suggestions. When we arrived there were only two people at the bar but as time went on, more folks arrived. The chili Colorado I ordered was fine. It's mildly spicy and tender. The rice is okay and that refried beans are similar. Nothing standout about them. There is a parking lot, clean bathrooms and a friendly vibe. Staying in Ritzville, this is basically the only game in town for food. As in I recommend not even trying the rest! Very nice place right off the highway - if you're passing through - and seems well populated by locals. I had the combo chalupa enchilada (chicken) and an agua fresca. I'm used to those costing like $5-6 but this rang up as a soft drink! Definitely come get your horchata or any other flavor they have. A nice homemade salsa to accompany the opening chip basket - I went for a refill - not really spicy. Nothing here was spicy, so you'll need to make use of the table hot sauce for a bit of heat. So it goes in the middle of Eastern Washington, I guess. Tasty overall, good flavor in the rice and beans, right size meal (not as gigantic as some places waste). Quiet atmosphere, good service. Since I can't give fractional stars. This is a 3.5-star review, downgraded only because of the service issues. Otherwise it would be a 4.8 star review. Positives: The dishes are quite tasty and pleasant, if you can eventually decide on what to order. It took me nearly 20 minutes to choose an item because there were so many wonderful dishes listed on the menu. I chose the double entrée offering of a chicken chimichanga (the tortilla was a little overdone, but still okay) and an amazingly delicious chicken enchilada, which came with a more-than-generous side of sour cream, guacamole, rice, and refried beans. My wife tried to steer me toward ordering from their smaller selection of combinations, but did I pick up on her hint? Of course not. My stomach tells my head to only recognize full-sized portions, not what I perceive as portions suitable only for those under the age of five. My wife often orders from such small menu options. I find her habit quite odd because she's taller than a five-year-old. I digress. Be prepared: their portions are huge. Their menu should come with a warning not to overorder or overestimate what you think you can eat. A couple of notables: While the restaurant's cuisine isn't necessarily five-star, it is definitely pleasing for those without nose-in-the-air culinary righteousness. This wonderful restaurant does not necessarily cater to those looking for Michelin-starred authentic Mexican food. These folks specialize in authentic homestyle Mexican meals that are pleasing and fulfilling. If I lived in the area, I would be a frequent customer. I particularly enjoyed that the complimentary chips were not salty, oily, or too dry. The chicken was not overseasoned or oversalted. It was really quite a nice meal after a weary day of traveling. I forgot to ask if they made the sour cream on-site because it was so creamy and fresh! Now that I think about it, there are a lot of cows in the area. Is it a conspiracy of sour cream freshness? Who's to say, but the truth is out there! Moooooooooo! Cons: The waitress was pleasant enough but not super friendly. When we asked what type of fish came in the fish tacos, she answered that she did not know, nor did she offer to find out as we asked for more time to look over the menu. That was odd and disappointing. We had to ask for more ice for the margarita and more napkins because all that was immediately available was the ultra-thin napkin wrapping the cutlery. Am I being picky? Maybe, but my standards are extremely basic: ask what the table needs and make the effort to either know the menu or ask the kitchen. It's OK if you don't know an answer, but finding out is the difference between a perfunctory tip and an excellent one that says, "You're awesome for what you do!" Usually, I advocate for over-tipping! Not this time. She got the enthusiastic, perfunctory tip. At the end, we gave our card to pay the bill, and she returned the wrong receipt and credit card to us. Fortunately, a woman from a couple of tables down was getting up at the same time as me to let her know that they also had the wrong credit card and receipt returned to them. I'll be honest -- I thought she and her dining companions were more conversational than the waitress. Maybe the waitress had a very stressful day and was very tired. I know that working in the service industry is not always pleasant. I wouldn't say she was even remotely rude, just somewhat indifferent and inattentive. She was apologetic about the credit card mix-up, but overall she detracted a bit from what would have been a stellar experience. were If the waitress was more attentive, this would be a 4.5-star review. However, I highly recommend this place. When passing through again, I hope to return, but maybe I'll take my wife's advice to go for the smaller combo offering, which was the same size but slightly lower priced. I don't know where to start, the food was so salty, small portion, pineapple juice isn't made with real pineapple, they don't serve spicy sauces which is something that you would expect at a Mexican restaurant - they offer us a green sauce that was very sour. The lunch specials are reasonably priced and delicious. I had the Chile Verde pork burrito. It was mentioned in the most reviews and it really was as tasty as everyone says. The spice level was just right - super tasty and just a bit of heat. Sooooo delicious! My husband had a taco salad and ate it all up. The kids had enchilada plates which they enjoyed. Peach Margarita was very yummy. Prices are acceptable and affordable. The food was good. Not perfect not great but good. Our server was very very very sweet. Food came out quickly and seemed fresh. My salad was a little expensive I got a fajita salad and there really was not enough lettuce in it. I wish they had the option of not having it in the tortilla bowl but a bigger bowl instead but I just ordered it how it came definitely not enough lettuce didn't feel like a salad. But it was good. If your craving is a bright, vibrant flavour palette found in Mexican food, then just temper your expectations. This is Northern North American Mexican food. Savoury and flavourful yes, but only if you understand the context of spice is for a simple palate. My meal was a perfectly serviceable and gave me good nutrition, fibre and satiety. When you are travelling long haul, fast food will not always cut it. TLDR: I wouldn't recommend this place for a Mexican experience, but it this was a solid Northern US meal that provided fuel on a long road trip. read more

Wow! Best Mexican restaurant I have been to thus far. I had the shrimp a la diabla, the red sauce had the perfect mix of spices. It was very well made and I was extremely impressed. We are from Seattle area, i90 was closed due to snow and accidents so we took an early unplanned lunch in Ritzville.
