If you're traveling through Ritzville, Jake's Cafe is an absolute must-stop. The diner feels like stepping straight into another era -- cozy, welcoming, and full of charm the moment you walk in. We were quickly greeted and told to sit wherever we liked, so we grabbed a booth by the window. As soon as we settled in, our waitress came over for drink orders, already cracking jokes with a wicked sense of humor that kept us laughing the entire meal. She suggested mozzarella sticks as an appetizer -- and I'm so glad she did. They were cooked to absolute perfection (chef's kiss). We ordered the ribeye steak with potatoes, veggies, garlic bread, and cheddar broccoli soup. The soup was incredible -- rich, flavorful, and packed with real broccoli, so you knew it was fresh. Then the steaks came out... and honestly, they were better than steaks we've had at high-end steakhouses. Perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Throughout the whole experience, our waitress kept our sodas full and somehow always appeared right when we needed something -- we never once had to ask. That level of attentiveness is rare. We decided to grab pie to go since we were heading to a hotel for the night. Before we could even mention it, she brought us plastic forks and a bag with our dessert. That kind of thoughtfulness completely sums up the service here. This will absolutely be a regular stop for us anytime we travel through Ritzville. Another visit and decent meal for what would be considered a greasy spoon by most. This go around I had the 'Trucker' which consists of 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 meat. The food filled the spot, but was neither memorable, or bad. It did earn the greasy diner food label though. Would I keep coming back; yes. We stopped by on our way back to Seattle from Eastern Washington University football game. Loved it!! Food was fresh, delicious, customer service was great! Even the customers dining in and walking in were awesome! The server knew their names. I love places like this, Thank you for fueling us after a long weekend and the special welcoming experience. We plan to make this a tradition to stop by on the way home after EWU games! We ordered our food in advance and it was ready when we arrived with fresh coffee to take on the road. So I was in the area for almost a week on a business trip. I decided to stay in Ritzville and the only restaurant that looked worth visiting was Jake's Cafe... and boy have I never been more right! The first time I walked in I already loved the "off of the highway" diner vibe - it's nice, cozy, and a little dated but I truly believe that is the intended charm of this restaurant. The waiters greet you with genuine smiles, are so kind, and make you feel welcome :) they always ensure that you're well taken care of. So mind you I came here three times in a row so I got to try a few of their dishes! The first night I had ordered the Denver Omelette with a side of salsa - this was a 5/5 for me and you can never go wrong with breakfast let alone an omelette. The second night I had ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger - looks like they're pretty good at making lunch items! 5/5 from me no doubt. The third and last night I decided to stick with the lunch menu and order the Chili Burger w/ Cheese and Onions along with a side of their Homemade Soup of the Day: Broccoli Cheddar Soup. Oh my gosh these dishes really sent me off in a glory! Broccoli Cheddar Soup - 5/5 for me! It had the perfect thick consistency with right amount of cheese and broccoli. I loved that there was also celery in the soup which was a fine addition. The Chili Burger was not like your ordinary Chili Burger... both buns were layered at the bottom, burger patty in the middle, and a plethora of chili on top... this is a fantastic way to present the Chili Burger - heck I was able to make myself a little bit of chili fries while I was at it! 5/5 Look, the food is delicious and the price is fair. You can spend at least $17 for a big portion quality meal at an old school charming off the highway restaurant! If I ever find myself out in this area you bet your butt I will be coming back :) much love! read more

We pulled up to the cafe and noted it had been there since 1969. The food hasn't changed much I'm thinking. How this place has four stars is a mystery. Perhaps the locals are trying to support one of the few restaurants in town. At any rate, my friend and I ordered the 7oz steaks but were told they were out (5:30pm on a Sunday). We were told the only option was the ribeye (the most expensive on the menu). We really wanted steak so we went for it. BAD IDEA. We both ordered medium rare. They were well done, no pink anywhere and a third was fat and gristle. When I called the waitperson over, she told the other server who asked the cook how he cooked the steaks. He said he set the grill for medium rare. So we were told, oops, sometimes the auto griller malfunctions. Seriously?? The "cook" didn't think to check them?? Then she told us they would remake the steaks but they were all out. Yeah, right. So they comped $5 off each meal. Big deal. If that wasn't bad enough, the salad was basically a bag of premade shredded lettuce. That was it. The vegetables were canned green beans just like mama used to make--mushy and flavorless. Even with bacon and onions. The only salvageable part of the meal was the baked potato which would have been a whole lot better with actual butter and not fake, soybean oil glop. There was a packaged dinner roll. Adequate. We were asked if we wanted pie for dessert. At that point there was no way I would take a chance on that! To screw up a steak that badly and the failure of the restaurant to make good on it with another similar entree is inexcusable. When we pulled up, the sign said Closed. I love these rustic small town diners. It's very popular and offers breakfast all day, as well as lunch and dinner options. Service did take a while as they were very busy. I had the mushroom burger with the soup of the day. The bun was super soft and the burger was good. The Hubbs opted for the hamburger steak breakfast and was a little disappointed that the meat was overcooked. We wanted to try their pies but ran out of time and needed to get back on the road. Look, this is a roadside cafe in Ritzville, Washington, which is very much my jam but it might not be yours. They were open when we needed them and I loved them for that as much as anything. Steak, eggs, and hashbrowns were all fresh, delicious, and prepared exactly as ordered. So was the toast (not pictured). Coffee was great. Service was great. (Our server was sharp and a little salty and excellent.) Most of the people there at our odd hour were regulars and I wanted to linger just to hear them reminisce and chat up strangers. Staff were kind to them, and just as nice to the ragtag lot making a brief stop on their way to somewhere else. And get a load of this fragrance dispenser in the loo! What a hoot. I had a fun time at Jake's Cafe today! I guess it's because we were driving through on I-90, they were the only ones open early on a Sunday, and we were feeling the diner vibes! There were quite a few diners and they were short-staffed but they smashed it and we were served almost without delay by what sounded like a mom and daughter duo and an organized kitchen crew. The breakfast was fresh and tasty! Simple orders, for sure, of just eggs, hash browns + sourdough toast with hot coffee & tea. But it was exactly what we wanted for breakfast. Stopped in on my travel from Hinkle, Or. to Spokane, Wa. Not a whole lot of choices on my drive. Found this place in Ritzville, Wa. Truck stop style cafe. I ordered the Rib eye, medium well and when I received it was on the rare side. Sent it back for some more flame on the meat. Came back perfect. I know they are fatty but this was 45% fat. Also tried the Turkey noodle soup... super delicious. Corn and salad was also good. Cherry pie and ice cream home made was awesome. Inside was 30% filled with customers and super quite like a library. Typical cafe besides how quite it was. Lucked out to get to stop here for a late dinner. The waitress was so nice and accommodating. Had a yummy corned beef sandwich, a cheese burger, and fries. Everything was so good! The fries were hot and crispy and we dipped them in their homemade ranch. Our daughter really enjoyed the cup of broccoli cheese soup. It was just what we needed. We've flown past Ritzville a thousand times but never stopped for breakfast even though we said we should. Finally we stopped at Jake's and we weren't sorry for it. This place is about a million years old and the decor shows it. Dated but not dirty, just like a time capsule. We were at the tail end of the breakfast rush so it wasn't too busy (but from the conversations around us, it's clear we were amongst the regulars). Our server was very nice and made sure the coffee cups stayed full. The meal itself was exactly what we expected. Good diner fare with reasonable prices and portions. If it's classic dinner food you seek, go to Jake's. We had the Billy Burger and the Roast Beef and Mashed Potato for diner on our way to camping in Ritzville. Both were awesome. The next morning we stopped in for Country Fried Steak and Eggs. Again dinner perfection and lots of it. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is your classic old style restaurant and dinner with seats at counter booths and tables. Staff is very friendly, selection of food is ample all the great comfort foods. Portions are generous and very reasonably priced. The French Fries are excellent served hot and crisp, not those soggy things most restaurants serve. read more

I got a grilled cheese and some fries. First, the grilled cheese was so gooey and amazing, i added some bacon to it and it was perfectly crunchy. The fries were soooooo good! They were so crispy and warm. The amount of time it took to make the food was only about 3-4 minutes which was also great. Im appalled at some of these reviews I've read on here. People saying they felt unnoticed because it's a locals only place? May a small town, but not everyone knows everyone. They dont care if you're local or not. They wanna feed you. I have had great food here. I've tried a few different things and now I get the same thing every time. And those hash browns are GREAT! I cook, and our fam had a Bed and Breakfast for over 20 years. I would definitely know good browns. There was only one time that it wasn't up to the norm, they will take care of you. Let them. If you don't, that's on you. I don't ever give five stars because there is always room for improvement. Jake's.....it's seen it's days. It's not modern by any means. It's clean, they're food is cooked to order, sometimes they're busy, it might take a bit. It's like this... Good tattoos aren't cheap. Cheap tattoos aren't good. My fries were extra crispy, which normally would have been a good thing if they were even lukewarm but they were stone cold when they arrived. The ketchup on the table was warmer! Clam chowder was slightly warmer than the ketchup. Can't recommend the club sandwich either. Disappointed. read more

When we came in, they wanted to set us in the next available booth and did not want to allow us to set at the table by the window. I didn't change my request and they eventually set us where we wanted. When leaving the family behind us requested a carry out tray for the uneaten portion and was given a paper bag for the take aways. We asked for the same and got the cheap Walmart bag. The food taste good and the daughters said the smoothies were great. The steak was a bit bland for me. I've found most of the food around Montana to be this way. As someone born and raised in Ritzville, I've eaten at Jake's for years and enjoy stopping in when I go back. The food is good, generous helpings, and priced right. The only issue today was the complaining of the staff. I understand employees complaining but please be cognizant of customers being present. Especially the cook who had no problem dropping the "f" bomb any number of times. Ritzville deserves better representation than that. read more
