We have been there 3 different times and had the same issue unless they know you dont expected to get service. They take 1 order then wait until its made and then serve it and then take the next order and so on unless you are a regular then you go 1st no matter the time you came in. The server was on his phone the whole time. I told him I'm allergic to Avocados. He put his hands up signaling he's on the phone. He wouldn't get us drinks is my boyfriend had to go around the counter to get us drinks because the server wouldn't get off his phone. He was rude and wouldn't actually speak to us. There are bugs all over the restaurant and keep landing in our drinks. Guy wouldn't do anything about it. Traveling HWY2 between Spokane and Wenatchee and looking for a spot to stop for dinner. I was in the mood for Mexican, however a Yelp search came up dry in this area. Hit up Google and El Ranchito had two positive reviews so I gave it a try. Heading out of Davenport the last place on the left is El Ranchito. Inside it's small and basic, but I wasn't there for the ambiance. The waiter was very nice and I settled on the bacon wrapped shrimp which is one of my favorite dishes to order. The food came fast and hot and was very enjoyable. I would have liked to see more cheese on the dish, but otherwise delicious. I stopped by on a Friday and the place was full with locals, seems to be a very popular spot in town. If rolling through town in the future I will stop again! read more

There aren't many dining options between the Columbia River and Spokane, whether you take the slow scenic route (US 2) or the fast and fugly route (I-90). You're looking at eating at sketchy no-name restaurants or chains. However, occasionally there are diamonds in the rough, and we found one at El Ranchito. We pulled in here on a hot August day on our way to Montana. We could have lasted until Spokane, but decided to get an early lunch. While El Ranchito's menu is mainly "standard Mexican food" (combinations, enchiladas, and a few Mexican specialties), the execution is top notch and the service is swift and friendly. I got the chicken enchiladas and my dining companion got the vegetarian (spinach) enchiladas. Both were very fresh and good. Moreover, the prices were 15-20% less than we'd pay for equivalent Mexican food in Central WA (Wenatchee, Yakima) or Seattle for that matter. Hard to believe, but this is the only Mex joint on Hwy 2 in Eastern WA between Wenatchee and Airway Heights. Too bad it isn't better, because it is absolutely not representative of the great Mex we have East of the Cascades. I'm not a microwave snob, but I've never been a fan of using it to heat/reheat menu items when you have a professional kitchen for use. The beeping heard seconds before 'hot plate' hit the table was unmistakable. Look, I've been to a ton of Mex joints that were a two-guy operation, with one caballero taking care of the front and the other doing the cooking in the back, and still have had amazing, fresh food without the use of a microwave. The food itself wasn't a one bite, push it away from you experience, but it was pretty bland and basic, and we used every drop of house salsa provided to us out of necessity. Their clientele was predominantly senior farmers, and that may have had something to do with how mundane the fare was. I dunno? Just because of our location and restaurant choices in Davenport, I am rating El Ranchito a 4. Food is average Mexican - I really did enjoy the flavor of their picadillo- as it is shredded beef and pork - great flavor! Prices are very reasonable. I ordered 2 beef tacos and 2 chicken tacos and they were ok. The chicken was slightly dry and the beef just tasted over processed. Visiting friends in Reardan and had been told El Ranchito was great. Also local on plane flying into Spokane mentioned it when I told him I was staying in Reardan, not far from Davenport. Anyway given the recommendations I decided to try it. I must say I'm only giving this place 3 stars because my friend swore we must have been there on an off night. I thought the food was only okay. Not horrible, not great, but mediocre. They got our order wrong to begin with. Beef enchiladas and beef tacos came out with chicken. They tried to make up for it, When I said something they brought us one beef enchilada. But they didn't replace the chicken taco with what had been ordered. I also ordered a side of corn tortillas. They were never delivered to the table. Had to request they take them off the final bill though as we never got them. The chile relleno was good and the masa on the pork tamal was tender. Overall however the food would have been better had they used more red sauce. Everything was kind of on the dry side. The tamal, enchilada and chile relleno all could have benefited greatly from more red sauce as well as cheese. Like I said, my local friends swear we must have been there on an off night. Said the food is usually great. Based on my local friends' comments I'm giving 3 stars. Otherwise I would have given only 2 stars. read more

Absolutely LOVE this place - the food, the ambiance, and the staff. I heard the restaurant changed hands a few years ago, so think that might be why I read some bad reviews of it from earlier years. I can't imagine they were referring to the restaurant as it is now. I eat here about once a month (for the past few years) and have NEVER had a bad meal or bad service. The food comes hot and on hot plates as well - so it stays hot while I'm taking my time chatting with the girls while I eat - and those little chips they bring with the salsa while we wait for our meals are hot and taste wonderful. The man who's been serving us for years now is a very gentlemanly fellow who seems to love his job. We all like him. We are asked a couple times during our meal if there is anything else he can get us or do for us. The ambiance of the restaurant has a genuine "down in Mexico" vibe - I would know - I've been visiting friends in Mexico and it reminds me very much of the restaurants down there....music, decorations, excellent food, and very sweet servers included. Now let me start this by saying that I came from Spokane, specifically to go eat at this restaurant, which years ago was a good meal for us. This could not be further from the truth this time. I am simply amazed at the experience that happened to us. - We stood inside the door for a good 15 minutes before being greeted or sat at a table, even though we were 3 feet away from several employees who saw us come in. Yes, there was a clean table ready to go from the moment we walked in. - As people were going in and out of the bathroom, not only was the odor less than pleasant, the foot deep of toilet paper on the floor was something that needed attention earlier in the day. - We witnessed two plates from different tables that the food was incorrect and had to be returned to the kitchen. - Our waiter finally came and gave us water, chips and salsa after another 20 minutes, yet we had no napkins. We had nothing to clean up the spilled salsa on the table and could not get his attention. - In the next 15 minutes the waiter came by twice, tapped our table and each time said, "it's coming, it's coming." We simply looked at each other and said, "what is coming? He hasn't even taken our order." Needless to say, we then left the restaurant and we will never return. They "might" have the best food around . . . but until they learn proper customer service and how to be professional in business, this place will never get me to come back or talk positively about it. I have been in business for over 33 years and know a think or two about customer service. Consistency is the biggest problem. Took guests one time and was embarrassed to be there--the only one of who ate the food was our 4 year old granddaughter. We check it out every 6 months or so, but would never recommend El Ranchito to anyone. Most of the food has no flavor. The chili Verde is mostly tomatillos with few chilis.
