HH Tacos decent (have had better) but I was craving the tacos I've had in California for Taco Tuesday. This was the closet place to home that we could walk to. I would come back but just on an occasional basis.

Instead, El Chupacabra has multiple vegan meat options and also vegan cheese that is actually tasty! So you don't feel shortchanged at all like at a lot of Mexican restaurants where the so-called vegan option is just some puny beans and lettuce thrown into a tortilla wrap. I normally get take-out, but this time we ate in. The server was super nice and fast and efficient. The vibes are dark and dive-y, with cute gothic decor (think sparkly bats and skeleton humour). The food was acceptable (Seattle just doesn't really do good Mexican food so that's the highest compliment I can usually give at a Mexican place, lol). The guacamole was good and had a nice little kick to it. The portion sizes were excellent. I had the vegan enchiladas with one "steak" and one "chicken" and liked both mock meats. My only slight gripe was cleanliness -- there were some cobwebs hanging over the seating divider and the booth itself had some crumbs etc. before we sat down -- but these didn't really negatively affect my opinion, just that the place could stand a bit of a deep clean after hours perhaps.

It is definitely not as tall as Sky View or the Space Needle, but is much less crowded and still offers amazing 360 views. It's also cool that there are people who still work in the historic building! They don't open before noon, so plan accordingly. Staff was super friendly and upbeat, and you do need an entry ticket to get to the observation deck bar/restaurant. If you go early on a weekday, you basically get the place to yourself for a little bit, which is super cool. Worth a visit if you're in the area!

What's even more impressive is that at one point, Smith Tower was actually the tallest skyscraper in the West! One thing I love about this place is how well they've preserved its old-school charm, especially the elevators. They still have an operator who manually controls the lift, and there's even a display of the original green Otis elevator motor in the lobby, the same kind that powered the elevators for over a century! The operator told us there's a tenant who lives above the observatory, which blew my mind. The rent was originally a whopping $17,000 a month, but the tenant apparently negotiated down to $14,000 since there's no A/C up there. Talk about living in style with a historic discount! Once you reach the top, there's a bar where you can grab a cocktail and enjoy the view. As you walk around the observatory deck, there are plaques pointing out different Seattle landmarks, so you can easily spot everything from Mt. Rainier to Lumen Field and Lake Washington. It makes the 360 deg view even more interactive and helps you appreciate just how much of the city you can see from up there. Pro tip: They don't open until noon, so if you're planning to go early, you'll end up waiting downstairs. Otherwise, grab a drink, take your time, and soak in one of the best vintage views Seattle has to offer.

Sci-fi, horror, and fantasy exhibits carry the experience. At this point, I'd come back for the rotating shows, Rebels & Icons on the 15th, and the upstairs Lounge Bar. Low key hidden, solid pop art food/drinks, complimentary chips with their own seasoning, and great service. The museum should separate this bar on Yelp, I want to review this separately.(hint) That combo makes the membership make sense.

After we arrived, we were put in line to go up to the top for more than an hour. The entire place has very tight quarters and was absolutely jam-packed with people. Actually, it was quite difficult to enjoy the view when there were lots of unsupervised children running around both overlook decks. If you do, I highly recommend booking one of the earlier or later times of the day to avoid the hordes. That said, the top view is quite lovely and it's cool to have two viewing platforms. Overall, I'm happy that I did, but I will never again return.

I rode the glass sided elevator up, and it moved quickly, giving me a preview of the view before I reached the observation deck, which is worth being prepared for if heights give you pause. The observation deck itself has been substantially renovated, and the result is one of the more engaging viewing platforms of any major landmark in the country. I stood on the glass floor section, included with standard admission, and that element gets the most attention for good reason. Standing on clear glass with the city visible directly beneath my feet produced a vertigo that is different from simply looking over a railing. The rotating floor moves slowly and continuously, giving me a full 360 degree view of Seattle over the course of my visit without requiring me to move around the deck. On a clear day the view extends to Mount Rainier, the Olympic Mountains, and Elliott Bay, and the surrounding landscape puts the city in a geographic context that is genuinely striking. Sunset is the most popular time to visit, and the views in that window justify the demand. Buying tickets online in advance and reserving a time slot is effectively necessary during busy periods, and the time slot covers your place in line rather than your exact arrival at the top, so building in some flexibility is sensible. Lines can be long, particularly on weekends, but the operation moved efficiently once I was through the entry process. For an iconic Seattle experience that delivers on its reputation, the Space Needle is worth the trip.

While we first discovered these olive oils and vinegars in a similar shop in Victoria BC, they are available in Snohomish and on Bainbridge Island. In addition to olive oil and balsamic vinegar, the shop has all kinds of associated items -- pouring spouts and the like. While we tasted a great many flavors of olive oil, and quite a few balsamic vinegars, we keep going back to the same favorites time after time: * Traditional balsamic vinegar * Tuscan herb infused olive oil There are many other interesting flavors, but these stand the test of time. And while one can use them to make a great oil-and-vinegar dressing on a salad, our favorite way to consume them is with a fresh good-quality baguette, ideally made the same day by a real french bakery (like La Parisienne in Seattle). A little oil in a dish, a little balsamic vinegar poured through it, then a hunk of baguette dipped in the balsamic-tuscan-herb mixture. Yum!! The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and it's hard to go wrong with any of the choices. Well worth a drive to get high quality ingredients. We are big fans.
