This FM is huge. They recently finished a big remodel. I started shopping here during the remodel. I can't say what it was like before but now it's the largest store in Ballard!! I've been here a few times during the day and it's been very very busy. Expect a lot of older folks doing their shopping at a leisurely pace. The clerks are very patient and friendly. I'm only giving three stars because they don't keep their shelves stocked sufficiently for the volume of business that comes thru. And because there isn't enough parking for the size of the store. read more

I was at the Greenwood Fred's and bought some clearance body pillows for 60% off. I wanted some matching ones so I went to the Ballard Fred's and they were only 40% off. I asked them to price match since its all fred meyer and we drove all the way down there. The resounding rude answer from the store manager David was no. Seriously? So I asked if they would transfer them to Greenwood so I could get the price and they said... no. Wow! I think it would have cost fred myer like $6 to price match and show good customer service. Many places price match other stores but apparently fred meyer won't even price match THEIR OWN STORE and they will be super rude about it. I left the pillows there I was so insulted. Glad that $6 was worth losing a customer. I will save myself the trouble and shop at Amazon from now on where they understand customer service. Unbelievable. read more

I did my first store pick up online. Easy. Picked up my stuff and the kid loading it was very professional. BUT! I get then I get home. No steaks. No salmon. No corn on the cob! I gave them a call thinking they forgot a bag. Nope! Apparently the pick up inventory is different than the in-store inventory. They were out of the items in they're pick up inventory. GRRRR! This meant that even though it said available it actually wasn't. The best part is, that I was told on the phone, I could have run in the store and bought the items myself! Now I'm stuck eating bacon lettuce wraps. I would give less stars but the kids was nice. Watch your pickup sales items. I feel like this is baiting when what I need is sitting on the shelf. I hate this place, I live really close to it and it kind of has pretty much everything. But seriously it sucks. Almost no matter what time I go its always way too busy. Navigating the produce section it hell. Going through the aisles is like playing bumper carts, and they make it worse by putting all sorts of obstacles at every corner, so if you're about to go down an aisle you have to knock a stack of tortillas over. And to make it so much worse I am constantly buying things that happen to be broken. Last week it was a lotion bottle that the pump was busted, and a toy for my daughter that didn't work. I got to spend cool time in line at customer service to exchange it (I get to stand there often, how fun) During the same shopping trip I buy an expensive light bulb. I get home and its broken, rattling and all taped up. Can't wait to return it! Did I mention I hate this place? read more

Beware! No one is wearing a mask or gloves. They allow way too many people in to be able to be 6 ft apart. They make you go through the whole store to find a few thing, because they keep moving things around. You can never find anything! Fred Meyers does not care for your health! Beware! read more

This Fred Meyer is huge and has a great selection. There is a large parking lot which gets crowded but you can always park. Their produce, meat, and deli are all some of the best in the area in my opinion. Their deals and sales are great. You can use your QFC rewards card here too. They have a lot of demos and samples going on in the store from time to time. The housewares and seasonal selection is pretty great too. Good nursery during the summer and Christmas items during the winter. read more

This Fred Meyer is a very convenient place to get groceries and other essentials at a good price. The staff are generally friendly, although not always efficient. The other day, I had a very easy time exchanging a Under Armour shirt for a smaller size. They have a dedicated surface lot which can be pretty hectic to navigate especially during the early evening hours on a weekday or during the weekends. read more

This place has everything (except Grade B maple syrup). Clothes, beauty supplies, pet foods, paint, toys, bulk foods, a sushi chef, cooking classes, wine, and ample fresh organic produce. I basically come here for everything. They are currently selling reusable grocery bags for $0.89 (small) or $0.99 (large). They're very sturdy and water-resistant, not to mention cheap. (How can you *not* buy a few bags for $3 and save the plastic?) TIP: (I had to ask.) If you have reusable grocery bags in the self-checkout lanes, look at the picture menu by the screen (where it has the codes for fruits/veggies) and it will have the code for the bags. It doesn't charge you for them again, but this lets you put the bags on the scale and fill them with groceries without having it flip out that you put an unpurchased item down. read more

I was living in Ballard when this location opened up. I was so excited! Now, years later, even though I have long since moved out of the neighborhood, I still find myself at this store from time to time. Like other locations, I think the produce selection, quality, and prices are poor. This definitely does not seem to be a strength. The deli and bakery are characteristically good, with goods ranging from cold cuts, to quick meals, to cakes, and pastries. The rest of the store has pretty much everything you would find in any Fred Meyer store. I particularly like the size and capacity of the parking lot. I don't have to worry about finding a parking space - there are plenty. Also, it is right near the bike trail if you live nearby. The staff has always been friendly to me, even though most of them recognize me less since I moved away. I'm not sure why, but the store is often crazy busy. For instance, I was there last week Sunday and it seriously looked like Black Friday. In fact, the staff told me it was worse than Black Friday. Weird. Anyhow, the lines are frequently very long. One thing I've never understood about Fred Meyer is the lack of accessibility of the sale papers. Their ads come in the Sunday paper but they have a limited supply at their stores. That 'limited' supply typically runs out on Sunday (the start of their sales week). It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense and is not a great way to encourage more sales. read more

I work across the street from this particular Fred Meyer and find myself often over here picking up something or another I need. The store is quite large. I like the large food section this grocery stores boasts. The produce is always really fresh and the selection is decent. I often find myself picking up groceries here after work when I need something. The store also has really great sales running frequently on food and home goods. I like when they have the packaged salads on sale for Buy One, Get One Free. I mean who doesn't like stocking up on their greens? Compared to a lot of other similar stores in the Seattle area this store is really clean. The shelves are tidy and well stocked. Even the bathrooms are kept clean, though they do have a heavy bleach smell which is a tad abrasive if you have a sensitive nose. In Summer/Spring there outdoor garden area is amazing. They have lots of plants, bulbs, seeds and more to get you started. In true Fred Meyer style these things go on sale often making getting your home garden started affordable. I encourage you to always check the circulars. Just yesterday I walked over to buy blackout curtains for my large dining room. I had spent a long time pricing curtains online and was very unhappy thinking I would be spending well over $100's for curtains for 2 large windows. Here I was able to get over 300" of curtains for only $79 after tax. All curtains were on sale for 20% off which really paid off for me. I got those curtains hung last night and my room is not only warmer it looks so good! I think this Fred Meyer is a great place for families on a budget. They have good quality home goods and food at prices you can afford. The staff is friendly and the store is clean. I will be back time and again. read more

I shop there often and have spent a ton of money over the years. Today I received thd worst customer service in self check out ever. I had a question while scanning my groceries so I turned on my help light. The clerk looked right at me then went to help two other people. I patiently waited. When I thought she was headed my way and I waved she walked past me again to help another guy. After helping him I said excuse ne I've been waiting. She looked at me and said "yes"? but kept walking like she didn't want to stop and help me. So I said I have a question about the buy one get one....she cut me off and said with the rudest tone "it will show up when your done". She didn't even let me finish my question. Later after I scanned everything the help light came on again and she came over. I said " I didn't hit the button so not sure why it's on. She proceeded to scroll through my list on my receipt asking if I scanned the bottle water I had at the bottom of my basket. I said " yes I did." Then she asked about the Gatorade I had as well I said " yes that too. It's on the receipt. " she said I don't see it." So I had to point then out to her. She didn't apologize or anything. I immediately went to complain to one of the managers and he said he will talk to her but I doubt it. I should also point out she didn't ask the lady who had cases of drinks at the bottom of her cart if she paid for them. I believe I was racially profiled in a predominantly white neighborhood. So, this review covers purely photo processing. To review the whole store might take longer, there's tons of stuff! Anyways, here is my photo processing experience. First of all, everyone who helped me kind of had that, hey, I work in the electronics departments at Fred Meyer, who the hell are you attitude. -I brought in my photos, said it would be about 30 minutes. Come back in forty minutes, "oh yeah, I was supposed to do those, just a couple of minutes." -Brought the photos home, was charged for my CD, but not given my CD. -Called to ask about my CD, was hung up on the first time. Called back, said that they had it and I could just come by, it would be behind the register. -Came back, asked them behind the register. They could not find the CD, if I had my negatives, they could make me a new one. -Brought back my negatives, made me a new CD, questioned me a bit, but made me the new one regardless. Husband asked what quality they were being put on the disk at, they had no idea. -took the disk home, about 80% of the pictures had made in on there. -Not worth anymore of my trouble. read more

Pretty veggie selection, but scary meat, scary seafood, and they just don't ever seem to have the "brands" I'm after, like Method products, hair products, etc. It's hard to do a real, full-on grocery stock up here. I go here for plants and house stuff - it's a bit more convenient than Target. But I can't help but feel that it's a bit less satisfying. How did I live on the North side for 2 years without ever going here? Now I live in Capitol Hill and go at least once a month. Because this place is A-MAZ-ING. First, the grocery prices are really, really low. Ever since I moved to Seattle, I've been stunned at the high price of groceries, even at places like Safeway, but FM prices seem to be about 25-40% lower than anywhere else. Especially for organics and other specialty items, which is really nice. Ezekiel bread for $3! I like shopping here because I can buy all manner of nice food without cringing when I get to the checkout. Second, they have just about everything. Their organics and international foods sections are great, especially for a regular supermarket. Sure, you'll get a better organic selection at PCC, but for twice the cost. I've been looking all over the place for Goya products, and finally found all the sazon I could buy at FM. Now I can have delicious black beans. Finally, I give these guys major points for customer service. I called them yesterday to see if they had the aforementioned Goya sazon, and the guy actually walked all the way across the (massive!) store to check. My only quibble is that the produce section is laid out a bit weirdly, which can make it hard to find stuff. And their furniture is gawdawfully ugly, which is too bad because it's so inexpensive. But otherwise, I love this place and will continue to come here once a month or so to stock up on staples. EDIT: another great thing about this FM is that they actually seem to hire enough staff to cover busy shifts. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes in the checkout line, even on a Sunday afternoon when the store is packed. read more

As other reviewer have mentioned, they hire some pretty lame / rude cashiers at this store. Today I had the misfortune of getting a really brash cashier by the name of 'Sharon' that made me re-evaluate why I drop $100 a pop at a place that is so classless. First of all, their prices are ridiculous. People, open your eyes and realize you are being ripped off. Their prices are 30% higher than they need to be. I am seriously impressed with this store. Its not in my neighborhood, but I will purposefully drive here. Their produce selection and quality is excellent and they have a great cheese shop! I can get stuff here I can't get at my local Safeway because they stock so much. Its probably not a great place to drop in to, because its so big, but the prices and the lack of a "club card" or whatever is very helpful. Try it even if you don't like other Fred Meyers, this place sets the standard. Great wine section as well. Except I did have this weird experience: I went to guy in the produce department to show him that there was something weird on a tomato, and he took it from me, looked at it, and threw it about 10 feet into a garbage can, without saying anything to me. But the checkout people have always been kind, so I'm going to forget about it for now, Angry Produce Man. read more

Its Fred Meyer, really what can be said. You can buy diamonds, a TV, shoes, a gallon of milk, a towel, windshield wipers, a fishing pole, and toys. Coming from the Eat Coast there isn't much like Fred Meyer that I'm used too. I mean Wal-Mart and Target... I like Target better than Wal-Mart... again I'm slipping. This place is very large, clean and usually well stocked. Parking can be a chore during the middle part of a Saturday or Sunday and Holidays but then again so is just about anywhere. I've rarely come away empty handed with what i came for and the prices are respectable. The selection is great and the staff is always restocking the shelves. You can't sell it if customers can't see it. You can often find some great deals too! Watch out for bicyclists on the Burke when pulling in from Leary Way. read more

Everyone- I know this is a long read- but if you shop at Fred Meyer, especially with your kids- I feel like it's important to read about our experience. After an incident that occurred last week (6/8/17) at around 8 P.M. at the Ballard, Seattle Fred Meyer (915 NW 45th Street), I felt compelled to write and publicize this. My family and I shop at your store regularly, and have for years. We cook all of our own meals, so we spend a lot of money on groceries. We have never really had any bad experiences at Fred Meyer- until last week, when we were slandered and humiliated in front of other customers. I was grocery shopping with my girlfriend and our 8 year-old son. It was a typical shopping trip until we began checking out at the self check-out. We scanned about 3 items, the third being a bottle of wine (requiring an ID check), so we called an employee over to check our IDs. The employee supervising that area of the self-checkout (a woman named Emma) came over to check our IDs, and after doing so, accused us of not paying for the 2 previous items we scanned. She checked the log, and realized that we had indeed paid for them. As we continue to scan items, she stands directly behind us, craning her neck to watch as we scan each item. It is clear to us and the other customers that she is watching us closely, and it is beginning to make us very uncomfortable, since she had already accused us of attempted theft. At one point she chastised us for using the "skip bagging" option when we wanted to put an item directly into our backpack after scanning it, telling us not to use that option, and groaning and rolling her eyes at us. Throughout our entire time scanning items, she is standing directly behind us in an imposing and threatening manner. When we are just about done scanning and ready to pay, she comes over to us and begins taking items out of our bag and telling us we had not paid for them. She picked multiple items up and told us we had not scanned them. First she accused us of not paying for the tomatoes we bought. When she checked the log and realized we had in fact paid for them, she grabbed a pound of sausage from our bag, and accused us of not paying for it. Then she checked the log and realized that we had, in fact, paid for it. Every time she accused us of stealing an item, and was proven wrong when checking the log, she would move onto another item and accuse us of stealing it. Overall, she accused us of attempted theft of about 4-5 items. This defamation occurred in front of other customers, and in front of our 8 year-old-son, who was becoming increasingly confused and distressed as his parents were being accused of stealing. She finally stopped when I asked to speak to a supervisor. She told us we could pay for our groceries now, and that it would take some time for a supervisor to get there. I left my girlfriend and my son at the checkstand to seek out customer service on my own. I do not believe Emma ever requested a supervisor- a supervisor only came after my girlfriend had been standing there a long time and told a different employee that she was waiting for a supervisor. At this point, my girlfriend and I are both shocked and flustered. My son is scared and keeps asking us "why is she doing this to us?" and "can we please just go home now?" At this point, this ordeal has lasted at least 20-30 minutes. We have no idea why she so aggressively accused us of theft, and I hope it did not have anything to do with the color of my skin- but I really cannot think of another reason that we seemed to be profiled from the moment we began checking out. When we finally speak to a supervisor and manager, they are polite and understanding. The supervisor says that she understands that Emma can sometimes have a harsh "tone." The manager says that he will be "coaching" Emma. We leave but are extremely shaken up and distressed at how we've been treated. I called Fred Meyer's customer service line when we arrived home, but the representative told me it wasn't even guaranteed that anyone would call us back. It's been over a week, and sure enough, we have not been contacted by anyone. That's unacceptable. This entire situation has been a nightmare for our family. To be accused of theft and defamed in front of customers and our 8 year-old-son, has caused us a great deal of anxiety and distress. It is not enough that this woman be "coached." We now feel like we cannot go back to the store in fear that we will see this woman again, or that she will do the same thing again (she expressed no remorse whatsoever, even after her allegations were proven false). We do not want our son having to see this woman and be afraid of her, as he was last night. We have told all of our friends and co-workers what happened, and they have expressed that they no longer wish to shop at Fred Meyer's as well. read more

It's close to work, so I frequent it for lunch adventures and it's nice because they have just about anything and everything you may want to chow down on. You can take it to go or hang out in their seated area upstairs and enjoy your food. Their prices are good, the staff is friendly and helpful. With an after work sailboat ride on Lake Union, I decided to use my lunchbreak to grab my refreshment for the evening (sparking Dasani, fyi). I also had a random coupon for free Land O Lakes European-style butter. And as any Freddie's shopper knows, it's hard to leave the store without browsing other departments. I had time to kill, so I did a full loop around the store with my cart, throwing in clearance-priced mason jar drinking glasses, the butter, and sparkling Dasani. I decided I wanted to shop the ladies clothing section cuz what woman doesn't want more clothes? Well, I looked like a chicken with its head cut off because I couldn't see the clothing section. I thought it would've been near the home décor section because it's more closely related to décor and household items than produce and cheese. But, y'all, they have the clothing area tucked behind (literally) the deli and produce section. If it hadn't been for me standing on my tiptoes to read their store signage, I probably would've left without even browsing. My efforts were rewarded when I found a pair of jeans that fit - score! Leaving the clothing section, I saw some Seahawks garb and snagged my husband a "Seahawks Man Cave" sign. Ambled my way over to the checkout, which was a breeze. I winced when my tab came to $83, when I only intended to spend less than $10 - oops. Conveniently as I was leaving, the Freddie's jewelry store was beckoning me. I didn't have any money to blow on diamonds (even though they are a girl's best friend), but I did need my rings cleaned. Fortunately for this Fred Meyer location, they use an actual machine and steam blaster to clean your jewels, and they came out sparkling clean. (Unlike their ghetto Casino Rd. in Everett location, where they literally cleaned my rings with a TOOTHBRUSH - yuck!). 4/5 stars, because their clothing department is stupidly stuck in the corner of the store. read more

Where's a magic lamp when you need one? Oh magic genie of...this wine bottle, please grant me this one wish: please make the Fred Meyer of Ballard and the Target of Northgate magically switch places. Yes, you can purchase many different things that fall into different categories, but I need Target-y things and Target-y selection in Ballard. Shopping in Fred Meyer is like trying to shop in a beehive; there is so little space, people are practically on top of each other. Maybe it was an isolated incident (I've only been there once, and it was right before Xmas), but the customers in this beehive are also discourteous; they just stand in your way, cut you off, and don't look when turning around corners. It also took forever to get the short list of things I needed and the parking lot was madness. Maybe it's unfair to compare the Meyer to the Target, but I don't think that forgetting that Target ever existed would have improved my experience any. read more

I wasn't sure if 3 or 4 stars. 3 is for because they are A-OK in terms of products they carry. Unfortunately they are certainly not your healthiest grocery store. They sure carry organic fresh produce and organic dairy products but I would love them to carry more healthy option in deli department such as uncured hot dogs and other cold cuts, or organic meat etc. but other than that I love Fred meyer, They are like neighborhood Target store, furniture, accessories, clothing, shoes, toys, decorations, Tully's. My daughter loves their Play Land, OK it is mostly because she gets to have screen time there, but I like that she feels safe and happy there while I shop or get a coffee and catch my breath. read more

I recently moved to Seattle, and my wife discovered Fred Meyer on my first week here. She kept raving about it; the size, the amount of stuff and quality, and of course, the cheap prices. I didn't believer her for a while. Now. I. Believe. Fred Meyer has good stuff, all under one roof, for a decent price. Where else can I get pancake mix and an ice scraper for my car on an early Saturday morning? Fred Meyer has it. The pluses are: tons of selection; they have food and household items, and they even have a decent selection of organic goods. There is a bakery, a huge deli, and they even have a place to watch your kids for a few minutes while you shop. I am offically a convert. read more

Fred Meyer is a one stop shop for everything you might need at home! I am amazed at how much stuff they have. I mean the other day I was trying to install some plumbing in my house and they had everything I needed! No need to drive out to Home Depot for these parts. This Fred Meyer location is a lot nicer than some of the other ones I've been to (ie. the one on 85th). This feels new inside, is clean, friendly staff, and they have about 15+ self check-out stands (that goes to show how big the store is!). This one also has beer and wine, which I hear the 85th Ave one does not. None of the things they have here will be able to compete with a specialty store, but they honestly have a little bit of everything. I love that I rarely have to go anywhere else to be able to find what I'm looking for! read more

Ah, as a one-stop shopping venue, this place rocks my socks off. Of course, you never forget your first love (ah, Target) but for sake of physical proximity, Freddy and I have been getting along quite well since I moved to Seattle. I have been pleasantly surprised with their prices and products. Bandon (whose quality I find to be right on par with tillamook cheddar) cheddar cheese block for 4.50, and various fox dvds half off, including 500 days of summer (9.99) and slumdog millionaire (7.50). not too shabby. You can sometimes find some good deals (ive found most on beauty/hygiene products) with those little orange coupons strewn throughout the store. There's free wi-fi and a tully's with a seating area. And its open until 11. Man, I could come here, check off my shopping list and get some studying done. the true one stop. read more

For Megan B. who's wondering what this place is like on a weekend, it's like the DMV filled with children and old people, except it takes longer. That said, I still love this place. I don't have a Target near me like I used to in a different state, so I was looking for an alternative, and Freddy's is a pretty good stand-in. I don't care what anyone says about aisle navigational issues or whatever, I find the same thing in my neighborhood Metropolitan Market and Safeway, not that I would ever shop in Metro Market, since I don't fit their yuppy demographic, but Safeway definitely. I don't know where else you can stop once and find such an amazing amount of stuff you need (and don't need) in one place. Sure, it's often zoo-ish, but that's part of the charm. read more

I really like the folks who work at Fred Meyer. Even though this is hardly an upscale place, I've always had good service and good answers to my questions. I love it that there's a WaMu bank branch and a Starbucks and reasonably clean restrooms in the place, and the grocery and garden shop and pharmacy are decent for picking up a few things. I particularly like shopping at Fred Meyer at night when it's quiet. They get a "5" for convenience, for sure. On the downside it drives me crazy that they seem to change suppliers every couple of weeks. Buy a special Sylvania lightbulb and when you go to get more, it's Phillips. Or GE. But only in a different wattage. You will never see the same lamp, or rug or shower curtain, or storage system, or picture frame, or anything twice. So if you want an extra, buy it NOW. Fred Meyers holds true to there slogan of one stop-shop & you'll find it at Fred Meyer! I can easily spend hours in Fred Meyers doing my grocery shopping, picking up a new pair of shoe's and filling prescriptions. I do appreciate that I can get all my shopping done in one place and I'm not running all around town. And I can't forget to mention that I get rewarded to shop when I use my Fred Meyers Rewards Card. The staff is always friendly and helpful. And it never fails that the cashiers always ask me how my day is and what I'm up to. I also appreciate that. And now the reason why I didn't give them 5 stars. There are a few things that get my blood boiling when I shop at Fred Meyers. 1. It always seems to be a scavenger hunt trying to find an weekly ad in the store. I mean I can use the exercises but sometimes I want to get the weekly coupons and get in, get out. 2. The last six trips to Fred Meyers they have been out of bagged shredded lettuce. Every time I go I ask if they have any in the back and they always say " nope we're out, they sell out fast". Get a clue and order more, right? 3. The cart returns in the parking lot are so in properly placed, it kills me. 4. Numerous amounts of times my items have rung up in correctly. Now I keep an watchful eye on the screen so that I avoid having to go to Customer Service to be refunded. Over all I love Fred Meyers and would happily recommend it to anyone. read more

I am writing this review because my boyfriend and I receive excellent service from Kelly who works at the Tully's counter. She is friendly, courteous and makes the best Bellaccinos. Also the swellegant gentleman that works in apparel is a saint and a charmer rolled into one. The other reviews that claim he is annoying are probably the reason I detest most of my fellow shoppers. As far as the rest of the store...we come here often. When Fred has a sale it is pretty decent and I actually really love the rewards card program. However, I think they need to integrate it with the Tully's counter punch card (like QFC does) for your coffee so you don't have to remember to have your punch card with you. We have also noticed that they must have hired someone new to do their displays as they have been really eye catching and fun. Told you we come here often. The downside as stated before are other customers. Not entirely Fred's fault but they have tried to help with widening the grocery aisles, since people think it is perfectly fine to leave their huge cart in the middle so no one can walk around them. Ahem. During the remodel my boyfriend actually had to mediate a fight between two women who were showing "cart rage". Most of the employees are extremely helpful and actually smile which is a nice touch. In short, I like Fred and drop loads of cash here. read more

Oh Fred Meyer where do I begin! Being from Southern California, I didn't know what to expect when I walked into this one-stop shopping mecca. They have Boars Head deli meats (Yum!), great hot food to go (Yum!), reasonably priced vegetarian foods in the frozen section, and a great organic section. Plus you can buy shoes, clothes, and wine! My only wish is for this place to be open 24 hours so I can stumble in here at 3am. read more

We have shopped for groceries and household supplies at the Ballard Fred Meyer for over 10 years. Several years ago Fred Meyer and QFC were purchased by Kroger, and since then they have been headed down the same road to bad service and limited selection as has happened in many industries with national consolidation. It is difficult to find help and many items have been replaced by only Kroger brands. Recently they reorganized the whole store and now it feels like a low-end warehouse. There are never enough registers open, so today we went early to avoid crowds, but there were still long lines at the few open registers, as well as the self-checkout line, so we just walked out without buying anything and went to Whole Foods where we will pay more for decent service and quality. read more

I keep coming back even though the hardware department has the worst selection ever. Freddie's would get one star if it wasn't just so damned convenient at 9 in the evening when I need more 1/4" machine screws. Of course, they never carry what I need, so I usually walk out empty-handed. Convenience only goes so far. Also, the hardware staff know nothing. read more

A good place for one-stop shopping. To prepare yourself before going in, pick up a beverage at the Starbuck's on the outside, and be sure to grab a shopping cart with a drinkholder. Overall, they've got decent prices on a big selection of stuff. They may not have the biggest selection or best item in every department, but it's usually good enough to get you by unless you need something really hardcore. Things I like the most: Cheap potato salad, lettuces, scallions, and usually good deals on some brand of English muffins. They almost always have at least one premium OJ brand for $2.50 to $3.50; usually, they've got gallon milk for around $2, or a coupon on their 1/2 gallons for $1.25. They've got Coinstar, Redbox, a BECU machine (outside), Tully's inside, with gelato, too. They've sometimes got special coupons for their Electronics department that even word on prepaid cellphone cards. They're open from 7am-11pm everyday! The staff is helpful and will show you where an item is or check in back to see if they've got more. The meat department often has decent deals, and sometimes good ones like ground pork for $1/pound. They're great about returns; if you've got one of their Rewards cards, they can look up the item even without a receipt. Overall, really convenient in time and space, and usually "good enough". read more

Well, I do shop at this Fred Meyers pretty regularly, but mostly because 1. the prices on some of their groceries are very reasonable and 2. they are close and convenient. There are a few excellent (read: friendly, efficient, quick, responsible) cashiers - Nan, Sean and Jane, to name a few. Stay away from the deli - they are slow, they refuse to cut the meat deli meats thin enough, and often the deli products in their cases look like they've been sitting there for quite awhile, though I know they do a brisk business from the lines usually forming around the counter at lunch and dinner time. The organic food section is good - pretty well-stocked, and the prices are competitive, to say, Ballard Market or Whole Foods. For fresh produce and meat, I'd go over to Ballard Market, but for grocery items, you'll get more for your money here. The organic manager (sorry, I can't remember his name)is pleasant and very helpful, and he will go above and beyond if you ask him for special orders, etc. Stay away from this place on the weekends (too many crowds), and avoid shopping early in the morning (especially on Mondays) because they usually haven't restocked the shelves from the day before and you'll find that half your grocery list won't be available on the shelves. And yes, as previously mentioned by others, the flying birds GROSS ME OUT. I have nothing against birds, but heck, not while I'm indoors shopping for groceries! Lastly, I so prefer giving my money to small independent shops, but I've got to save my pennies and Fred Meyers serves that purpose. read more
