Teriyaki chicken and bbq beef combo
    Sanilie F.

My family and I have been coming here for about two years now and it's sometimes a hit or miss. At times, they will skimp on the meat and pile a whole lot of cabbage and broccoli underneath the chicken or beef so that the plate looks more full and other times, they will give you your money's worth. So, with that being said, I will write this review based on today's experience. Order: ordered in the restaurant, the lady in front is always welcoming and nice. My order took about 15 minutes to be ready. Food: Food was well made and ingredients was fresh. I ordered a combo box with chicken teriyaki and bbq beef, order of macaroni and spam Musubi. The chicken/beef combo was very flavorful. The macaroni salad is one of my favorite things on the menu and is actually one of the reasons why I keep coming back. I always have to get a side order of the macaroni salad. The musubi is okay, they pack it with rice but the spam slices are very thin.... Not really my thing but my family likes it. Overall: I really want to give them a 4 star rating but because of my mixed experiences here and it being a hit or miss with portion sizes, I have to give them a 3 stars. Sidenote: I would recommend this spot to others.

On this week's episode of "I don't want to eat my own cooking for the next week", I arrived at Frannie Express for lunch (take-out, of course) Today, I ordered the BBQ mix plate ($11.89). The plate came with two scoops of rice, one scoop of macaroni salad, BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, and beef short rib. Nothing seemed egregious here. Notably, the macaroni salad did not taste like a deluge of mayonnaise, the bane of many a macaroni salad. First impressions would lead one to believe that Frannie's embodies prototypical neighborhood Hawaiian restaurant. Decor looks minimalist with about a decade's worth of light exposure and fading, much like any neighborhood Chinese restaurant. That impression would be absolutely correct. Frannie's offers cheap and filling meals with no frills or other strings attached. Truly, what you see is what you get.

Frannie Express sits on San Pablo Avenue. Its easy to drive past. And you probably should keep driving past. I have been here one time, and will not be back. The service was terrible. They were rude and unhelpful. The menu is confusing. I ordered four different menu items before getting one that they would let me purchase. There is a confusing system of combos and availability that I was unable to understand apparently. The food was ridiculously salty and greasy. It was one of those meals that you feel ill after and regret. I'm gonna pass on this place next time.

Great quality and prices. Love the teriyaki chicken. Their won ton soup is unbelievably filling and good. Completely shocked by it

Always a good idea to have Hawaiian food, not gunna lie. That said, had to go with the loco moco. I've had my share of loco mocos so this was a tough review. For starters there's something about a burger patty with an egg on top and closing it out with some Mac salad. This one was just ok, a bit salty tho...that's pretty much I can say ‍, i may try it again but will look around first. Eat well and aloha -ant

I go here pretty often and the customer service is always nice even and the food is always good and comes with good portions. 10/10 would recommend

I love this place. Its the perfect place as my bf loves Hawaiian bbq and I love Chinese. Its delicious, fresh, and the flavor is always on point. Guarantee recommend.

How can you put a sticker on the door saying that you accept AMEX & Discover and you don't? You can't be THAT disrespectful to your customers when they're about to pay! And by the way, the food there is greasy and the best score I can give is 3 out of 10.

Just based on the customer service, the lady was really nice, and wanted to help. She was patient, when everyone was trying to figure out what they wanted. We took our food to go. As usual, I love to have Katsu chicken combo any Hawaiian barbecue place I go. (Mac & cheese & rice.) I would consider coming back here again.

Watch out for your food guys they leave here for you underneath your chicken

I called to resolve an issue do you and they were rude as hell! They insisted that they wore hair caps but I ordered food for delivery and as I was eating my food I looked down to take another bite and there was a piece of long black hair underneath a piece of chicken that I was about to eat. They told me they couldn't do anything about it mind you my hair is purple so it definitely could not be mine and I just took it out of the bag. They told me if I had a problem that I could write a review and post a picture so here it is I hope you guys do better with your deliveries.

I used to go to Daimo regularly 25 years ago when I was living in Larkspur. Recently, I happened to be passing through on Easter Sunday around dinner time, so I stopped by at Daimo and got some takeaway for my wife and I. I want to mention particularly about the "dry scallop and egg white fried rice" that I ordered. My wife was pleasantly surprised with the quality and absolutely loved it. She said the fried rice was perfectly balanced and not greasy at all. I agreed with that conclusion. Happy Wife = Happy Husband. Whoever the chef was working on Easter Sunday, please don't change anything with that fried rice. It was perfectly balanced for us. I conduct a lot of taste testing as a foodie on Hong Kong style food. I also loved the "toss noodle" that I ordered. The noodle broth on the side with chives was authentic and tasty. I will return to Daimo this week and taste test the noodle broth and check for consistency. Once again, to the chef who made the noodle broth on Easter Sunday: please don't change anything with this noodle broth. We are living in Novato now . It is a bit further away from Larkspur, but we will certainly return to Daimo and sample all the other Hong Kong style dishes at very reasonable prices.

We got there around 12pm and there were only a few other tables seated at that time. They sat us immediately and our group kept getting distracted while we were supposed to be looking at the menu to order. They were so kind and kept checking in with us to see what we wanted to order. We finally made up our minds and ordered a huge spread: Spicy Chonqing Beef Noodles, Green Beans, Scallion Pancake, Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken Wings, Golden Crispy Pork Spare Ribs, and the Xiao Long bao. The food came out so fast! In less than 20 minutes, we had every single dish that we ordered. My favorite dish was the Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken. The batter was light, very crispy, and seasoned to perfection. The chicken itself was juicy, piping hot, and kept me going back for more. The mala level in the Chonqing noodle dish was very beginner friendly. If you're looking for an intense numbing sensation with a "oh gosh maybe I should slow down" type of spice, you should ask them to make it more spicy. But, it was just the right level for me to be able to enjoy everything else with it as well. I always appreciate a family style restaurant, it makes it easier for people to try new things. I will definitely be back and bringing all of my friends and family.

Too bad because the restaurant itself was a nice space - compact, sleek, and minimalist. Granted I have yet to dine here, my review relates to my takeout experiences, and what happened once I opened the cardboard boxes. The $12 Beef Chow Fun had the requisite thick noodles but seemed a bit light on the meat (photo: https://yelp.to/4Wtu7f7z4O). The $15 Eggplant in Garlic Sauce was quite heavy on the sauce, and the eggplant absorbed the oil fully (photo: https://yelp.to/5wYVsJ798o). The $11.50 House Fried Rice was likely the best dish I've had with calamari and shrimp mixed with a lot of chopped vegetables in an abundance of fried rice (photo: https://yelp.to/iV2kC0_KIl). When we walked in, no staff was out front, so we stood around a bit before we were seated. The staff quickly disappeared again, and throughout our meal, they were usually disappeared somewhere in the back. If you want something quick like extra utensils or napkins, you may need to wait a bit before someone appears. When ordering, we wanted to try both the Beef Buzz ($14.99) and the Fried Beef Buzz ($15.99). The lady who took our order said they were the same thing, and offered to just give us one half/half order instead of ordering two of essentially the same dish. We agreed to that offer, but she didn't mention anything about how that'll be charged. Of course, we ended up being charged the higher price of $15.99. Not a huge deal, but some better communication there would've been appreciated. We also ordered the Beef Huushuur ($14.99). The Beef Huuchuur arrived first, and it didn't look anything like we expected. The photos from online reviews all looked it'd come in an empanada shape, but it actually came in a large, flat, circular shape. They were all laying against one another in a slanted position, and it made all the oil pool in the bottom of the dish, and the pieces that were covered became very oily and soggy underneath. The parts of the dough that weren't soggy were wonderfully crispy and delicious though. It'd make a significantly better difference if the Huuchuur were placed spread out from each other instead of lying on top of each other to maintain the crispiness on all surfaces. The beef filling was nicely seasoned and well flavored. The Beef Buzz had essentially the same filling as the Huuchuur, but different exterior. Unfortunately, I still have the same opinions of it being way too oily overall. The non-fried pieces sometimes broke apart at the bottom due to the sogginess. The fried version did not have a crispy texture at the bottom either, I'm guessing due to the excess amount of oil on the dish. Again, the flavors were great, but execution and presentation definitely has room for improvement. In summary, this was a great introduction to Mongolian dumplings for me. Very delicious flavors, and I'd love to try Huuchuurs again in the future because I love crispy fried foods with a good texture. However, I'd probably look for a place that goes way more easy on the oil.
