We had dinner here tonight based on a recommendation. You definitely need a reservation & they were nice to squeeze us in on a Friday night when I called Thursday. The food was very good & that's coming from a New Yorker who knows Italian food. Our problem comes from the size of the tables for 2. There was barely room for our drinks & bread. We ordered an appetizer to share & the waitress brought our salads out almost immediately afterwards. We were stacking bread plates, salad plates, etc just to be able to eat. This is not the waitress's issue. What is her issue was her pouring decaf into a partially full cup of regular, which we watched her do from our table. If there was not enough coffee or if it had been sitting there too long, put a new pot on & tell us that. Don't you think we would rather a fresh cup of coffee instead of the dish water my husband got & for some unknown reason, the waitress put the milk into the coffee before bringing it over. We were sharing a cannoli.....not cut in half, which it usually is when we order it, but ok....no knife, no forks. We were treated as an after thought & that is why the rating. I fully understand you have your regulars, but we have visited a different restaurant every night, based on recommendations and in good conscience, I cannot do the same, based solely on the service we received tonight. read more

Delicious food, there were 6 of us. Everyone had a different meal. The waitress was very curt and hateful. There was a drip from the ceiling and was hitting one of us . We told her about it and all she said was that customers had told her that for years. No apology or efforts to correct the problem. She acted as if she was just barely tolerant of our order of foods offering no suggestions or help only that we needed to order quickly. Shame, it's such wonderful food. read more

pretty good food but a little costly. The atmosphere is kind of like a pizza pub atmosphere very casual with decent portions of food. Lobster bisque was not very good, taste like canned soup but the sashimi appetizer and the yellowtail snapper fish special was pretty good. I eat gluten free due to Celiac Disease, not by choice. When Frank heard I was gluten free, he started throwing out entrees I never thought I was going to be able to have! Frank set me up with Penne with a Pink Vodka Sauce and Chicken Marsala. I have to say both of these dishes were amazing. Paired up with a nice wine and I was having a fantastic meal. If you are near the keys, or passing through, this is a must stop place! Make sure you do call ahead because they were packed! I felt great the next day to. Just ate at Franks. Guys who worked at the place, including Frank were really nice and accommodating. Started off on the right foot. Our waitress (middle age grey hair lady with her hair in a bun) was horrible. I am so specific about her description because I want her to know that she is the biggest problem with Franks. Started off with the tomato, pepper and mozzarella dish. It was average. Had the pasta fagioli and lobster bisque. Pasta fagioli tasted like it came from a can and the lobster bisque had way too much flour. Main dishes were actually decent but nothing spectacular. Wine glasses were over filled which was nice. To top it all off we felt rushed the entire time despite the fact they were empty at 5:30. Not very Italian to rush people. Message to Franks......had the customer service been better I probably would have given you an extra star and a half. Frank, you are obviously a very nice guy, you just need to control the front end a little better. read more

This is a great little restaurant - The restaurant is an over the top restaurant - The atmosphere is a very casual setting with everything on the menu from Very good to exceptional! You will always find Frank in the kitchen and the food always shows that he cooks with care! I have yet to have ANYTHING that was not GREAT. The nice thing about Franks - if you don't see it on the menu - Frank will make it for you! We have tried just about everything on the menu at the restaurant and we have NEVER been disappointed! The ladies that work in the restaurant are the best- very friendly, they always have a smile and we just love all of them! Reservations are suggested and during peak season for some reason if you don't have reservations and you just show up- it will be worth the wait! I would highly recommend this restaurant! Well, that would be Frank's. Okay, so best is open to interpretation. But this little locals joint is off the charts. We made a reservation for 5 pm. So yes, we opened the place early bird style. They welcomed us with open arms. Small dinning room. Even smaller kitchen. Smell of garlic and tomato sauce wafting everywhere. Had our kids in tow, and everyone loved the piping hot fresh bread and roasted garlic. Waitress was an 11 out of 10, veteran of 18 years. We ordered filet, chicken Milanese, and the kids split spaghetti and meatballs. Salads were fresh with homemade dressing. We immediately made a reservation for two nights later. Everything was so hot and fresh. We hear it gets very busy later and on weekends. So make a reservation a couple days in advance. read more

While this place was a little hard to find. The reviews I read don't lie. This was far and above the best Italian food we had in the Florida keys, maybe our best dinner of the vacation. Not to be missed when in Marthon. Tucked away in a nondescript area just south of vaca cut once you enter the restaurant small town Italy is the atmosphere. Extremely friendly staff and Frank in the kitchen warmly greet all arrivals. The menu is Italian based and extensive. Portions are large, and you can ask for a 1/2 portion. I've eaten at Frank's twice prior to our most recent 2/22/18 dining experience. On both of those occasions it was ok. However, this last experience for my wife's birthday will never have us stepping inside this place again. We had a reservation for 4 at 6:30. It was busy and were seated at 6:50. We ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees and deserts. We dined for about 1:40 minutes, then after, and I repeat after, I paid the bill of $200 including 20% tip, as we were getting up, the maître de/ assistant manager named "Joe" told us it was "about time" and admonished us for dining for so long as other people were waiting for our table! Excuse me Joe, but after eating at restaurants for more than 50 years I have never, ever, been verbally assaulted for occupying a table for a certain amount of time. Totally inexcusable. Let me also say this. I'm 100% Italian and eaten the best Italian cuisine in Italy and from my families kitchen and Frank's is at best a C+. I sent back my veal marsala because it was so greasy, they took it off the bill. The marinara was so overseasoned with oregano it was awful and unfortunately the chefs feel as though unless you're fed tons of garlic on everything, it's not perceived as Italian cooking. Hey look, the place is not a complete disaster, the steamers are great, but if they didn't have a captive audience in the Keys, they wouldn't be around much longer. Hey Frank, you need to give Joe a talking to or see him out the door. His attitude is horrible, that is, unless you don't really care and are just taking advantage of being the only "Italian" restaurant for 20 miles. read more

Because Frank's is in a mediocre location, you wouldn't expect this caliber of food. The fish special was stupendous. It was laid in a lemon butter sauce that provided a perfect balance of flavor. A very special feature about Frank's is that if you bring in your own fresh catch they will prepare it for you. As a classic Italian restaurant Frank's is geared toward a more mature palette but is on the casual side of dining. Went on a Friday night without a reservation. Should have called ahead , but we were sat quickly. Our server Julia made us feel at home. The bread was hot served with roasted garlic. we ate the whole loaf. The food was outstanding. The sauce "gravy" was unbelievable. My chicken parm was the best I have had in years. The yellow snapper was by far the best, fresh seafood we've ever enjoyed. My wife ordered the gluten free version, which came in a delicious garlic, wine and oil sauce covered with capers and tomatoes. My snapper was pan fried and cooked to perfection with a side of pasta.
