Food is good. Service is good. Price is ok...maybe a little high for what you get. Can fit large groups or go solo.

We were in the area for other business and asked our decorator where we might find some good Mexican food. She suggested Frankies and we stopped in for lunch. Good call. The place is very clean with tables inside and out. We had a great lunch with excellent service at reasonable prices. I wish it were closer to home so we could visit more often. I hate writing this, but here goes. I was one of the first to review this place, I even worked at the Dairy Queen it was before when I was a kid. I came here several times and it was great. It was good to see familiar faces from Amigo's. I brought a group of 8 old friends to eat and our waiter was obviously very new. He was completely unfamiliar with the menu and he even had to grab a copy to read along with what was ordered. He could not answer any questions about the dishes. We ordered margaritas and food. Four of the eight dishes had to go back, either wrong or improperly cooked. Waiter disappeared until check time, our drink glasses sat empty, no one checked on us, and of course, the bill was crazy wrong. I didn't say anything, I just chalked it up to new waiter. I went back with my husband for my birthday dinner on a Monday night. Our waiter got our drinks, took our order, then disappeared. The manager brought our food and asked if everything was okay. I expressed surprise that my chili Relleno burrito was served with French fries. He brought me a plate of rice and beans. I ate the burrito, I didn't taste chili or chicken. It wasn't very good, I just thought I'd ordered the wrong thing. Sweetie had ordered nachos with ground beef. He told me the nachos had chorizo instead of beef. He had eaten two of the nachos. Our margarita glasses sat empty. I asked for our waiter and the manager came back. He started arguing with my husband saying it WAS ground beef. Husband said it tasted bad. Manager said it was what he ordered. He argued with us two more times that it was ground beef. Hubby said to get the food away and go away. It doesn't matter what it is if it tastes bad! We stopped the owner, who I have known for over ten years, he apologized and asked us to come back. I told him we would. Then, we were leaving, owner and manager standing by the door. Another heads up: kids meals don't include drinks. So if you get a kids meal, it's still $3 more for a juice. $10 kids meals is kiiiiiinda lame. Heads up: you can only get into the parking lot if your on Plano headed north, and parking is limited, so get there early. They've got a few tables on the patio, but it's a bit stuffy and loud out there from the road noise. Happy Hour Marg Specials (til 6pm): $3 frozen $4 on ice (Get one of these and thank me later!) The margaritas are strong for the Richardson/Garland area, and the prices are great too. We love the amigo enchilada plate (but with avocado sauce on the cheese enchilada) and the three cheese enchiladas with guajillo sauce and potatoes and jalapeños on top! (Both around $10-12 for dinner) Son loves the kids meal with the cheese and chicken "taco" and rice and beans. ($4.25) Our first visit, they brought our son a small side of beans when we were eating the chips and queso, and we thought that was SO AWESOME but this waitress/time we didn't get that. Womp womp. I've been here a few times. The food comes really fast (awesome!) But the check comes slow. One time during a slow hour maybe 3pm, we were seated when a party of 20 came in and sat right by us. After that we were completely ignored. Waited on the check for almost half an hour before we went up to the front to pay. When we paid, the waiter up front didn't say anything at all, not even thank you. Other than that, everything is great like the chips and salsa. read more

Place to go order for pick up and was very disappointed with what I received. The to go margarita was half the size as what you get when in the restaurant. I ordered a medium soup, but received a small size without the side you usually receive when dinning in the establishment. What a great Tex-Mex place! What I love about this place is that it is not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. While there are some of the usual classics, there are some different dishes that you can try. If you do you will be rewards with something delicious. If you want something in addition to the already great salsa with your chips, get the queso! It's great on its own but you can get it with either brisket or ground beef which compliments it well. My personal favorite dish is the brisket tacos. But I have not had something that I don't like. This place is on one of my favorite places and I regularly come here. read more

Great little Hidden Tex Mex joint off of Plano. It's pretty true to its name most of the menu is Tex Mex so expect a lot of cheese. The plates look good but not amazing in fairness we did show up late when it was about to be closing time so the food was a little bit on the cold side, rice was a bit on the hard side not fresh. But I did like the sour cream enchiladas so I'm willing to give it a go again. The best part is they have awesome drink specials the Margaritas were strong and cheap. This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant to go to. My whole family enjoys the atmosphere, the friendliness of the management and staff, and the food is AMAZING! When you arrive, the owner is always there to greet you and opens the door for you, which you don't experience much elsewhere. Chips and salsa is always made in house and very fresh. We all love the fact that they use the white cheese instead of yellow which makes a huge difference. Personally, my favorite meal is the chili relleno with their delicious Mexican rice. We pulled up to the new Frankie's Place, but we weren't sure if this was the same Frankie's as the one on Custer in Richardson and the one in Sachse. The website currently does not mention this location and the naming is slightly different. So, instead we drove to the one on Custer just to be safe. We saw a sign on the chalkboard that said to visit their new location at Plano Rd. in Garland. D'oh! We were right there, but I was too chicken to just go in and try it. But, if it wasn't truly Frankie's, I would have wanted to leave! (Also, this building was the old and decrepit Dairy Queen that shut down many years ago, so WHO KNOWS what could have been in there!) So, being reassured that it would be good, we decided to go for brunch. We got there around 11:30am and there was almost no one there. The building doesn't look like much on the outside, but the inside is beautiful. They have a bar area and a dining area, lots of TVs on the walls, and they've put in the warm, wood detail that the other locations also have. The menu prices seem to be a couple bucks cheaper than the other Frankie's which makes sense given the vastly different neighborhoods in which they are located. We found out by reading the history on their menu that they are also related to Amigo's on Belt Line in Richardson. The chips were warm and crispy, the salsa was fresh and not too spicy (I prefer mild with just a little kick). We ordered queso with chorizo which does not cost extra (they only extra if you want the brisket added). It is queso blanco until you stir the chorizo in and it is delicious! We also had two of the brunch items which were very good and hearty. JJ's casserole is two perfect, "basted" (fried) eggs on top of ham, mushroom, onions, potatoes, and cheese. Francisco's casserole was similar but with chorizo and peppers. By the time we left, the place was nearly packed. I guess they are relying on word of mouth at the moment and I think that may be all they need! We'll definitely be back very soon. read more

Had the shrimp tacos to go. The guy helping us was super nice and everything was packed up clean and orderly. They even give you plenty of tortilla chips. The tacos were plentiful, three shrimp tacos with a side salad and Mexican rice. Plenty of food for a hardy lunch. I like that they put a lot of shrimp in the tacos, some places really hold back but not this place. They also add crispy tortilla stripes in the tacos, nice touch. The flavors of the tacos were good, this really reminds me of Tex mex but someone else disagreed with me. I don't know. Only thing I wish they did was offer tacos a la cart instead of as an entree. I would have liked to order different tacos to try and pass on the sides. read more

Favorite dishes: Pork Stew Chile Relleno (YUM) Papa's Special (cheese enchiladas with fajita meat on top) Best-Seller Brisket Enchiladas (amazing mashed potato enchiladas!!!) Pro-tip: sub the rice and beans for the mixed veggies. OMG! I watched our 4 year old scarf down a whole plate of it. That's how good they are. The queso needs improvement. Every time we add meat to it, there's a pool of grease on top. It makes the whole dish taste oily. For being a refurbished Dairy Queen, it actually looks pretty nice inside. read more

I really don't understand all the hoopla about this place. It's so popular in our neighborhood that it's hard to get a seat. It's in an old Dairy Queen, but the interior is rather nice. The food, however, was overpriced (especially for such a casual atmosphere), and SKIMPY. My daughter's $14.95 steak fajita plate came with just enough meat to make two fajitas. The rest of us ordered dishes that were simply unmemorable. Meh. I'm still on the look-out for a great Mexican food restaurant in the area, unfortunately I keep being directed to places that do not wow me. read more

I already love the Frankie in Richardson off of Custer so i walked in being kind of hesitant of this one. But; i was completely wrong. I LOVED IT!! My family and i usually go o the frankies off Custer for brunch ever sunday, but it gets so full so i'm so glad that they have expanded! The food it just as good, employees are great, and mimosas are to die for! I had the Rafa's casserole. I'm normally not a fan of casserole's but this one won! I'll definitely be back..
