This is our go to spot for delicious hand pulled noodles whenever we visit the zoo. The food is delicious. We haven't had a single bad meal here. If you are eating here for the first time our go to's are the veggie or beef pan fried hand pulled noodles and scallion pancakes. The service is wonderful. We enjoy coming here partially because the staff is so friendly and welcoming every time we are here. Parking can be a bit of a pain if you want to park within a block of the restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night, but it's easy to park in one of the garages or side streets near the restaurant and walk less than 5 min to the restaurant. read more

The mala dry stir fry is excellent. It can get a little pricey as you build it yourself and there are a minimum number of ingredients you have to include. Their thing is handmade noodles. Party of 6 dropped by to a half full restaurant. We go our seat and waited 15 min for water. I think the owner was the only staff on hand besides the cook. She did everything service side and it caused HUGE wait times. I think it was 30 min before we dropped our order, 20 min till our food and 20 min before I just walked the bill up to the counter (run by the same server). The food I got was amazing. Cumin lamb noodles with bold flavors and spices and a pig ear appetizer that I think they do better than anyone. The lamb felt more like beef but I could be wrong. Wow I'm so happy I found Fortune Noodle House in Clifton I was looking for a Chinese restaurant for a work lunch called and spoke to Rachel the owner, so friendly and happy to help our group. I stopped by yesterday afternoon to check out the restaurant, which is very clean & welcoming inside. Rachel greeted me and was happy to explain how she loves making healthy, fresh food every day in the Clifton neighborhood. I enjoyed the hand made noodles with veggies & chicken, everything made fresh to order. They have spice level 1-3, so I went in the middle with level 2, my food came out of the kitchen a few minutes later. Delicious & what a generous portion, I ended up talking more than half home. Last year I raved about my Vegetable Noodle Bowl. However my experience today with both the food and service was enough for me to refrain from patronizing this establishment ever again. The broth was bland and the noodles were undercooked. My little guy, the ramen expert doused his in soy sauce to add interest to his but I cannot afford that amount of sodium intake. I expressed my dismay to our server and her response was, "Have you ever been here before? Our recipe hasn't changed. I will pass the feedback on to the cook." She then departed and took 25 min to return to the table with the bill. Instead of offering to make things right (i.e. boiling the noodles more or offering a different dish), she proceeded to tell me that she was unable to take the noodles off of the bill, but could take off the egg rolls? I paid the bill in full and left hungry. I do not recommend Fortune Noodle House. As I see it, this place has become a place of convenience for those around campus but certainly not a foodie destination. I've been wanting to come to Fortune Noodle House basically since I learned of its existence, and I'm so glad I finally made it out. We came around 2:30 pm on a Saturday to miss the crowd and were seated right away. Having studied the menu online in advance, we quickly placed our orders: hot green tea, a scallion pancake, Dan Dan noodles and the cumin lamb with noodles. The tea arrived quickly in its own little pot, which, quite frankly, I love. Nothing special about the tea bag inside but it was hot and a great compliment to both the rain outside and the feast to come. The scallion pancake showed up not long after and too hot to handle right away. We'd each gotten about one bite in before the main courses arrived. The noodle dishes were both divine! The Dan Dan noodles are thinner (I think maybe they are the knife cut ones) and come with a generous dose of sauce plus cucumbers, cilantro and a sprinkle of pork. The meat is more like a seasoning in this dish and it works just fine. The sauce is rich and a bit spicy, though I recommend adding a dab of chili oil to take things up a notch. The noodles with the lamb were thicker and chewier, and had been pan fried along with the meat and vegetables. There were plenty of big pieces of lamb along with onIon, scallion, bell pepper and dried chilies. Oh, and lots of cumin. If you've had ~those noodles~ at Xi'an Famous Foods, the taste is very similar. Spicy but with complexity and a slow-building burn. Yum. The scallion pancake turned out to be a great palate cleanser throughout the meal. Simultaneously chewy and flakey, it had a mild scallion flavor and came with a sweet dipping sauce perfect for cutting the heat. While all the dishes we had were great, I don't think I'm done exploring the menu. Next time I want to try dumplings and one of the noodle soups! read more

Next I tried the pork cabbage pot stickers. They were good but similar to any other Chinese restaurant and not a standout. Finally I tried the spicy tofu and rice combo and the Eggplant with garlic sauce. The tofu was definitely spicy but also delicious and I'll be ordering this again. Welcoming. Delicious. Oh so authentic! First - the food. Lunchtime. We asked for suggestions from our server, Eric, and went with every one, and we're so glad we did! The Cumin Lamb special was the favorite. The Chinese Pancakes were like nothing I've had anywhere else. We also had a spicy chicken dish -- all of it was fantastic. Second - the story. It's a family owned business, immigrated from Jiangsu Province, China. The restaurant was a lifelong dream, which only recently became a reality. Our server was the owners son, and since it was relatively calm, we got to ask about their experience. The family is so kind, so loving. We live in Arkansas, and stopped here on a road trip. But if we lived within an hour, we'd be regulars. As we explored Cincinnati, we mentioned that we got lunch at FNH and multiple people reacted with how much they love it too. I came during lunch and it was not crowded at all...sat.right down. The menu felt very authentic. I must say the food is really good. I ordered the sliced beef noodles with bok chocolate. I could have bathed in that broth...it was so good. They give you plenty. The do offer other Chinese dishes but I came for the noodles. They make them. They are not store bought noodles and that is the difference. You can actually watch then through the large wino that leads to the kitchen. So I've been a Clifton resident for much of the past 30 years since attending law, school in Cincinnati, and the location where the fortune noodle house is located was a pretty forgettable pizza place for many of them. I don't recall when I first noticed that they were gone and FBH WAS there, but I overlooked at the place For years. However, a few days ago, I found myself trying to figure out what to eat for dinner, and happened upon their yelp entry. I don't know why I was so reluctant, because they had excellent reviews, but I think there was something about the spot and my feelings for the previous restaurant that slowed me down. However, I love trying new things, so I perused the menu and decided on the Dan Dan noodles and some dumplings. My order arrived and everything was the temperature and consistency of what you'd expect for delivery food- lukewarm, and not at it's best, which would have been immediately out of the skillet/wok. It didn't matter. It was excellent anyway. Even lukewarm. The many flavors of the Dan Dan were amazing, and the dumplings were the perfect texture although they lacked a certain quality to their mouthfeel due to sitting in their own steam and moisture in the delivery time window- but one billion percent would order again. I think the next step is to pay an actual visit so I can get these dishes at their best- but even not at their best it is definitely on my list of favorite places in Clifton. read more

A little secret hidden gem. The ambiance is very family oriented with low to moderate of noise. The food is amazing and super flavourful. The spices are some of the most rare spices that I have ever encountered. The spice is called Sichuan that creates a spicy flavor in the mouth and then it wears off. We ordered the spicy stir fried chicken with Sichuan chilli, bokchoy, and chicken stir fry with broccoli. The dinner entree portions were super size. The dishes ordered were super fresh with authentic asian flavourS and spices. The entrees were made with moderate sodium. I highly recommend this location for authentic and fresh asian cuisines. I was excited to try Fortune Noodle today for the first time. Everything I tasted was delicious. We had crab Rangoon and potstickers to share for appetizers. Both were reminiscent of a typical Chinese restaurant; very good and not too greasy. I had the pan fried hand pulled veggie noodles; the dish was full of broccoli, cabbage, onions, bok choy, and carrots, and covered in a brown garlic sauce. Food is pretty authentic - but bubble tea made from powder (I was going to get one because the pricing was pretty decent -but then I noticed they had no fresh fruit anywhere - it must be powder). Something about the Cincinnati places that I've been to - they do the powder version which is way too sweet for my taste. Go for the noodle show as they make noodles periodically - a see-through kitchen - so you could see your food from dough to table. Fortune noodle house is an authentic northern style Chinese restaurant. Definitely do not expect Cantonese favorites like flat rice noodles with beef (the "guan-chow-gnau-haw" my brother-in-law gets that all the time) - but they have what I'd say is even better since its made with house-made hand drawn noodles. Hand drawn noodles is an art - even my father who is a chinese chef appreciates the skill and taste of hand drawn noodles. So...if you happen upon this restaurant - get the hand-drawn noodles. Do not come looking for the Chinese American stuff like egg rolls and crab rangoon. Instead - opt for scallion pancake, boiled dumplings, anything with cumin and lamb, the spicy dishes are their specialties ("ma-lah" - meaning numbing spice) since the cuisine is from this region, anything cold and marinated is good. So by the time we arrived at Fortune - we were quite hungry - it was a late lunch - around 2pm. We placed our orders and we had an assortment of dishes that involved noodles. I kind of felt that the servers expected you to know what to order as there was not much of an introduction to their menu, but hey - its a Chinese restaurant. Looking from their specials board - I deduced that it was a northern Chinese style restaurant that focused on noodle dishes, spice, and dumplings. Scallion Pancake was on their specials: It was legit. Nice and crispy, some good layering on the inside. A reliable appetizer and what is somewhat comfort food to me. There wasn't much scallion flavor nor scallions- but it was done nicely. The type that I'm used to at home is loaded up with scallions. And I'm not sure if its a regional thing - but I'm kind of partial to serving this with some kind of sauce (sweet/sour or vinegar or soy sauce sesame combination) - but the server said nope - its served plain. Noodle Soup w/ beef stew: Usually my take on hand drawn noodles is that it has to be experienced in noodle soup. Now I don't read Chinese - so I managed to ask the servers if this was going to be more like the Taiwanese type "Nu-roh-mein" which is more of a spicy broth. He said yup -thats what it is...So I go ahead and order that - but I get a plain boring beef stew with a weak broth. The noodles did not shine in this dish because the framing was not great. It was edible - but not particularly great in flavor. Sliced Beef stir fry with noodles - this is the dish that my brother in law thought was going to be flat rice noodles - because again - I asked specifically if it was flat rice noodles - and it came out as the hand drawn ones. The noodles were good in this style - it was good - especially if you add in some spicy oil to it. Reliable - but not wow-inducing, and a tad greasy for my taste - but it had the "wok-heh" (the essence from the high powered wok heat) for sure. Jah-Jah Mein: They had this listed as pork and bean sauce noodle. Now this is a classic dish. I think highly of this dish for evaluating fresh made noodles as well. But this was disappointing. The pork/bean sauce mixture was salty - which is normal - but when its cold - its not that great. This is a dish that is relatively easy to do at home but to short cut it and just scoop cold pork/bean sauce mixture onto hot noodles...not great. Fail. If it was heated up - it'll be a winner. But because it was cold - the hand drawn noodles were stuck together and just not a great experience eating cold food. Dry spiced Mala Bowl with Squid - This was an interesting dish - usually the restaurant serves this with a side of rice, but my sister-in-law wanted to have it with the hand drawn noodles - which I think was an extra $4. I think that was steep extra charge - because hey...noodles = flour and water...but she wanted it anyway - and I'd say it was the best dish that we had on our table. Honestly - Fortune should serve their Mala bowls w/ noodles stir fried in - because it was definitely less greasy than their stir fry w/ beef dish. You have your choice of protein and veggies. I think if the restaurant wants to market their featured noodles - it should be as a mala-bowl (ala-chipotle style). It featured the highlights of this cuisine style - the spice, the cumin, the hand drawn noodles - and fits it to personalization of the ingredients.) The decor is comfortable and spacious. Metered parking is plentiful. Pricing is a tad bit higher than I'd like $12-$14 for a noodle entree. I wouldn't return, but if you're craving noodles- this place is worth a visit. read more

The items include proteins like beef and tofu, and vegetables like bok choy, peppers, and zucchini. It's a lot of food. You also can choose a spice level. I had it with tofu, and got it at a moderately hot spice level, which ended up being a good choice. The bowl is big enough that many could make a couple meals from it. It's recommended you come hungry. If you're getting a noodle bowl, you're getting a lot. Try getting something with noodles, as that's the house specialty. read more

When I worked in the area, I would eat here at least one time a week. As usual, we didn't have to wait to be seated. Restaurant is clean and the bathrooms are always decent when I use them. Ordered 3 of our fave fishes: vegetable pan fried hand pulled noodles, mala bowl (broccoli, lotus root, cauliflower, enoki mushroom, white mushrooms and potatoes) and sautéed green beans. What can I say?! The food was EXCELLENT, as usual. This is one of my go-to restaurants when I'm in the mood for some really good Asian food. Service is always great. Let the owners know how much we love their food. I've been here plenty of times but never complimented them personally. They came over to our table to explain how they use authentic spices. The chef goes to markets in areas like Chicago to find the perfect ingredients. Really appreciated them coming over to offer a little insight as to how they are able to come up with such explosive flavors. We could tell from the "smile" on their eyes that they truly appreciated hearing how much we enjoy their food. Challenge to all: once a month, pay the chef or owners a compliment. I've worked in customer service and can't explain how good it feels to hear how I did something right vs the complaints. Recommend this place to everyone. Get the mala bowl if you like spicy dishes.
