My husband came here to buy boxes for our move & they ran our card twice and said it wasn't going thru. My husband then paid cash, however both the charges went thru. I called after to let them know of their mistake & was told I could go in the next day to speak to the manager. I let them know this was not acceptable and needed a manager contacted. The call I received back let me know that they did not charge me twice and to have a nice day. I had to go in person to show the charges on my account, again they told me they did not charge me and to handle it with my bank. Unfortunately you cannot dispute a claim with your bank until the charges have processed so here I am almost a week later starting the dispute because the charge did in fact go thru. This feels very much like a scam and I am very disappointed in the way this issue was handled. Im sure this MOVING COMPANY is aware how stressful MOVING can be without having to deal with something like this & if this is not a concern of this business then they should reconsider their motives. Their U-Haul Rental Service: They make you wipe down the vehicle before you return it with your own wipes! Reserved vehicle online without insurance, somehow this was added during pick up although I opted out of it upfront. Insurance was $20. I requested it be removed and they refused. They can keep the money, but not my business in the future. read more

The absolute worst experience I've ever had dealing with a professional company. The manager was a trying to over charge my Credit card not to mention misconstrue the contract language. I I have rented from U-Haul before I don't believe he is an actual part of the U-Haul company but he does have their vehicles. I do not think U-Haul would want their customers treated like this. I was humiliated in front of my wife completely inconvenienced and what should've been a simple easy rental, while I move from one home to another less than 50 miles away cost me almost $1000 and endless frustration and anguish I was insulted belittled and price gouged. To my fellow yelpers I offer beware!!! If you have the unfortunate luck of dealing with this company be very very careful the manager is not at all concerned with customer service, be sure you read the contract, because he is just waiting to exploit a situation to his benefit. When I originally made the rental the girl at the front desk was very nice and helpful and she explained to me what I needed to know $39 a day for rental plus 45 cents a mile per mile which is based on five-day rental in less than 150 miles should've been around $500 yet my bill was close to $1000 and when I asked to have it audited he started to yell at me and even went as far as to threatened me when I said I was going to Yelp him read more

I recently moved from Tennessee, and needed a storage unit quickly so I picked this location under the assumption that it would be convenient. I've paid my monthly bills on time every month including insurance, and they treated me like crap few months in-- I was moving to a new apartment & had been moving all day then 5:00p.m rolls around and I'm trying to get back into the gate when I realized I was completely LOCKED out, like they cut my code off basically due to me leaving late ONE night so they said I can only go M-F from 9-5; when they actually close at 7pm but they want to CUT ME OFF EARLY ALL BECAUSE I LEFT ONE NIGHT AFTER 7pm.. If your looking for somewhere to store your belongings here is a clean, safe & friendly place to use. Have been using Fort knox storage Unit for few years (3 years) and now we finally found a bigger house to take all our belongings. Totally would recommend this place to anyone and when taking our belongings to our new house. we also used their rental trucks. They were willing to give me a discount because of the relationship with storage unit. And also willing to offer a helping hand! If in the future I would need storage unit or rental truck I will come back to Fort knox! Happy camper I am ! read more

This review is based on my horrendous experience renting a UHAUL truck from Fort Knox Self Storage on 6/1/2010: * Booked a 10 footer UHaul truck for 9am. We got there approximately 9:15 and the attendant rudely told us that he still needs to check his trucks in, and that it would take a few minutes. Fine, whatever! We left to grab some breakfast. * Returned at approx 10 am...still not done. This attendant showed no effort to appease us instead he made us feel like we we were bothering him big time. * Finally got the truck around 10:20am...I asked if I'll get penalized for returning it late since I reserved it for only 8 hours and this guy just wasted 1 1/2 hours of our time. He pointed the drop-box to me and told me to drop off the keys... what it felt like he really meant was "Read the damn contract you asshole" ..wtf? * Returned the truck off hours via their drop box protocol, FILLED the Tank ...Lo and Behold, they charged me an additional $4/gallon plus a $30/service fee for not filling up the truck the next day, I'm talking about an additional $94 here!!! * Luckily, I took a picture of the truck's mileage and gas gauge...NO you aint pulling that kind of crap on me!!! Totally DONT recommend this place...go somewhere else, there's another UHAUL rental place over in Harbor blvd. U-HAUL is great, and very efficient, unfortunately some of their dealers (such as FORT KNOX) is horrendous and pays completely NO attention to CUSTOMER SERVICE. I had to pick up a Uhaul Truck and car trailer from Fort Knox Storage today. There was a small issue with my reservation from the Uhaul website, but Jay was able to quickly fix it. The customer service was great from Jay, he went over the truck and trailer with me and made sure that I understood how to properly connect/disconnect the trailer and also made sure that even the mirrors were correctly adjusted. The negative reviews in regards to their customer service must have been from customers that had their own attitude issues. I always find it much easier to get great customer service when you are nice to the people helping you out. read more

I haven't utilized Yelp reviews much, but I felt Fort Knox deserved my honest review since I've been with them for almost 8 years. I haven't had any issues in all the years I've been at Fort Knox. The staff has always been very kind, friendly, and helpful which is hard to find with companies these days. I've never been given a reason to feel that the items I have in my unit aren't safe and secure which is a huge deal and why I've kept my unit with them for so long. Their rates are also very fair in my opinion. I would highly recommend Fort Knox to anyone in need of a storage unit or Uhaul rental. read more

Of course I decided to move during the most hectic time of year (Christmas) and along with that comes a lot of stress. I was visibly overwhelmed and Jay was able to make the process very easy for me and was extremely polite and accommodating. DO NOT RENT U-HAUL VEHICLES FROM THIS PLACE!!! The truck I rented was returned with 3/4 of a tank which was above the amount required to not be charged a fuel fee. When I received my receipt via email Fort Knox Self Storage claimed the truck was returned just slightly above 1/2 full which is totally incorrect. I know how to pump gas and read a gas gauge and was VERY careful to go slightly above the needed amount. I was charged $45 extra. I feel Fort Knox Self Storage falsified the results of the fuel gauge inspection and has stolen $45 from me. When I called in to inquire about these bogus charges I was met with rude and defensive comments from an employee named Jay or "J" who in so many words said it was his word against mine. I calmly brought up that on their YELP page 2 out of the 3 reviews (now 3 out of 4) stated that they had been lied to and charged for fuel and fill up fees that were inaccurate. At this point "J" became angry with me and said that since I was getting "technical" that he wasn't going to talk to me anymore and somewhat aggressively suggested I would have to come in and work this out with him face to face. This "J," besides being a complete meat-head idiot, was rude, aggressive and seemed suspiciously defensive. Fort Knox owes me $45. I will be taking further actions. read more

I needed a moving vehicle to head up to Sonoma to pick up a bed set and the guys at Fort Knox you're very helpful and pleasant. It's hard to see this business from the street as it's tucked away behind some restaurants on Railroad Avenue. This is a huge facility and able to meet almost anybody's needs for they're moving needs. I would use them again and I will recommend them to my friends. They do have parking for your personal vehicle and prices are very reasonable and equipment is clean and without defects. Thank you read more

Personally, I had a very positive experience with this establishment. Service was expedient, the truck was clean, communication was thorough. What really impressed me was that I was moved from a different pick up location to this one, and the employees taking care of me at Fort Knox reduced my mileage rate to compensate for the additional necessary driving on my part. Not only that, after returning the truck with graffiti on it due to the idiots who tagged it up in the middle of the previous night, they told me to not worry about it! Don't use this business. If you ever have an issue that requires the manager's help, you'll be screwed. And if you're someone that buys units off auction, don't bother if it's unit #367. There's nothing in there. The workers here are nice, but the manager Jay is horrible. After being a good customer for 4 months and paying close to $800 in storage rent, always on time, I had a glitch on my move out when the gate closed before I was able to get my last few items and lock off the unit. I immediately left a message explaining the situation and that I couldn't be there in the morning when they opened because I'd be at Stanford for a cancer treatment appointment with my sister. Jay had an attitude from the minute he got on the phone. His customer service is terrible. He offered no accommodation but to pay a full months rent because he felt "I didn't follow the rules". He didn't care that I'd made a good faith effort to clear my unit on time and would've completely if the gate hadn't closed by 7pm. He implied if I had been at the office early the next day maybe he could have helped me, this was infuriating considering I had to be at the Dr appointment before they even opened and called them the minute I got out of the appointment to see what could be done. Fort Knox gave me great service during my hectic move last weekend. First off, the woman at the counter was very helpful and even helped me after Uhaul hours! Other places I went to would literally say we don't do Uhaul after 3pm and say sorry - try tomorrow! To add insult to injury (hehe) my battery on my car died when I was in the parking lot. This time, the owner himself (I think he owns the place) came out and fixed my car! Man he really saved the day, I would have been so ... (explicit language) These guys here are no-nonsense people.. if you come in with a boorish attitude, they aren't going to put up with that, and I applaud them for that.. but if you are nice, they go out of their way to take care of you.. and so they did for me! The owners daughter was just as helpful, nice, cordial and professional when I returned. They understood my messy moving situation since another uhaul store refused to honor my reservation and left me stranded.. I am not going to say it was the Vallejo Uhaul.. that would be very mean for me to do.. it has to remain a secret! Anyway, for as long as I live in the Area, Fort Knox really went above and beyond to accommodate me and make sure I had a truck to move with. Do not rent a unit from this place! The manager is rude and the staff memebers are incompetent and unfriendly. I currently still have a unit at this location. Because I needed more space temporarily, I rented another smaller unit. They were stupid enough not to take the lock off when I just paid $100 for a closet 5x7.unit and came to use it Since the lock was on the new unit, I had put and stuff all my things in my older unit. This caused an inconvenience for me. The next business day, I called and ask to speak with the Manager, Jay Snow. I asked that i would like a refund since we just got the unit, but since the lock was on it, we didn't even get to open it and and use it. He did said that 'once I sign the contract, that's it.' I told him that I didn't even use the unit yet. I was stating my point that they did not take the lock off, but he did not care about it. He asked, "Do you know this call is recorded?" I said that's fine. He asked if I came in person, he would settle this. I said, I'm at work right now but will come later. He said that if I don't come in person, then I can't help him, and he hung up. I'm aware I have to come in to get assistance, but that was no way to treat a long time paying customer. This place is awesome! I needed a U-Haul at last minute- LITERALLY. I got there after picking up my dog from the vet & their U-Haul rental area was already closed, but Melina at the front desk was understanding about it (she even gave my dog some treats :)) & was able to get the manager (who was awesome as well) to unlock everything for me after they had already locked up & audited for the day. Then, the manager took it upon himself to drive the truck over to me rather than have me drive it out. Also, I'm a pretty small girl & Melina is too so I asked her how to drive it if we're so small. She got in & gave me some pointers- showing me that it's not too bad after all. I dropped the U-Haul off the next day (after hours because I am ALWAYS late, but it was still no problem). I took a look at my bill and I was in awe! It was the cheapest U-Haul rental I've ever seen- and no late fees either! Meliner and her manager were awesome & SO nice despite the inconveniences I caused. I'm definitely going there for my next move & recommending EVERYONE. Hello, Hmm let's see, I dealt with this company a while back (October 2013) for a UHAUL truck. Service was great, two blondes helped me out, one was a mother so we bonded, the other was younger and was a sweetheart. They did not leave a bad taste in my mouth. I wish I can give a zero, but one star for the miricale that happened at the end of the story. My husband got a storage unit in February of 2014 and forgot to list me as a user on the account. We were planning a big move to Los Angeles so a long term storage option would have been a good idea to set up shop (find a home) and then move our stuff down. This means big money for a storage company. I called with $400 ($ the unit was only $125) on my card to make a payment on our account in April since we had the second month free. I was denied to make a payment over the phone because my name wasn't on the account. WHO TURNS DOWN MONEY FOLKS? I then asked if there were any other options to pay, the employee named Eric said "You and your husband need to come in and sign a form" again ancient practices. Eric was condescending over the phone and very unhelpful (The whole time I was unaware that there was an online service for paying your storage bill called emove.com Eric never told me this) I am bewildered at this point, and being a mother of three kids, with unexpected expenses, that money was spent before I ever got a chance to get to the storage place. Between me working, my husband working and not having a car, there was no way. I had to move down to Los Angeles after this because it was just time to go and start finding a new job. My husband stayed behind to finish up his term with his job. I found out that the storage unit was up for sale 5 days before the auction. I guess they sent a notice to the place we moved out of???? Again I am gobsmacked! No one called the number on the account, that was ALWAYS active or sent an email. I called the store asking for the manager because I was honestly out of options with Eric. The manager wouldn't give me his last name (who does that! I can go to any business and just find the managers last name on a business card or in an email, who would deny a person over the phone that information?) The manager did finally give me an alternative option to paying because he said "I don't want you to see you lose your stuff", After I pleaded to him that my husband kept giving me the run around due to his work schedule, and I had A LOT of sentimental items in that unit including my babies 1st shoes and photos that were irreplaceable. He said I can fax you a Credit Card Authorization document and you can fax back to me your info. I said, "I will call you back with a fax number". I did not call back because I realized that the online tax service that I use only has an outgoing fax option, so I did not call back. I desperately looked through all of the paperwork my husband had when he rented the unit after I started crying on a phone call with my aunt while mentioning that I was going to lose all of my stuff if I don't do something quickly. In the paperwork I found a paper stating that I had FULL ACCESS to my account online with emove.com, I can add and edit authorized contacts or users, and pay my bill online. If I would have known this eons ago, I would have NEVER BEEN LATE!! My aunt paid the balance for me because she loves me. I asked my husband to call the day after the storage auction and miraculously my unit was not on the list to sell, I thank the manager or a sheer act of God for saving my stuff. I paid the balance and I was in good standing. I told my husband that I did not want to leave our stuff at that place because that one employee is either shady, hates his job, hates his customers, or just isn't trained. Time to move out of the stone age FOT KNOX, notify your customers about their option to pay online, notify them by phone not by an address they MAY have moved from, start emailing documents or requesting secured signatures over email. And have a list of alternatives for remote customers that is not "COMING IN THE STORE TO FILL OUT A FORM" My irate husband and his father picked up all the stuff and it is on its way to Los Angeles where I will give someone else my money. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE UNTIL THEY TRAIN OR FIRE ERIC AND IMPROVE THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS OVERALL, OH AND MODERNIZE THEMSELVES. Oh and the review saying that us saying the customer service is horrible is probably based on who we are.. I think not, I am a very soft spoken and understanding person, I know that businesses in this area or others with a high poverty level, have to deal with very rude customers and just develop a defense mechanism for all customers, even the nice ones. I see it all too often. If this were in Pleasanton or Beverly Hills, I bet the customer service would be excellent. Every issue would be addressed by the manager. This place is great! I've had a unit there for a little over three years now and have had a really good experience. We've had to do a lot of moving of items in and out of our unit and Jay, in particular, has been extremely knowledgeable and helpful with that. It's so convenient to have the UHaul option right there too; with all the supplies available for moving and storage it's really a one stop shop! read more

I chose this storage due to the fact that it was close to my future residence and since I was familiar with the area. Unfortunately, I've only had this storage for 2 months and it's been nothing but errors and billing mistakes. My first month I paid 2 days in advance before my bill is due, and next thing you know I am receiving emails everyday as late fees are accruing!! I've called and left messages to take care of the problem and it took 2 days for them to even respond, side note these 2 days were adding more late fees to my bill that was not even late. Finally, when they call me back they continuously asked me to make a payment when I already did. 2 days later they finally take care of the glitch in the system and fixed my storage balance. To avoid this glitch in the system again I decided to pay early (on December 26th) when my bill isn't due until January 5th just to be sure the payment processed and I didn't have to deal with late fees again. The day after I made the payment, I got approved for my new apartment so I decided to call and get the full payment back since I wouldn't need for the entire month of January. I've gotten hung up on, told they couldn't do anything. Asked for corporates number which they didn't provide me with. They promised they would contact Corporate and give me a call back, which never happened! Finally I call back today and hear the same thing, they cannot do anything for me! This is ridiculous why am I paying $100 to literally have a storage for 10 days out of the month! I am not happy with this place at all, I do not recommend anyone to get a storage unit here.
