AMEX discontinued old card use and A-1 let payments accrue delinquently without written or phone call notices to me? A "FINAL NOTICE" (ONLY NOTICE) was mailed to me after (3) months stating all items in storage would be sold if not paid within a narrow time period? I CANNOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL!!!!!!!

Ah, the American phenomenon that is storage. Interestingly enough, you cannot find this in the far…read moreeast. It just doesn't exist. Americans are pack rats! Including yours truly (getting better about it though.) It was really easy to work with Lauren, the manager at this location. I do dislike the phone process of Central Self Storage overall. Everything is routed through a call center. You can never directly call your location to speak with on-site staff. I guess if you have a large portfolio of storage units, this economy of scale makes sense for the owner, but not the customer since the overseas call center doesn't know anything, can't make meaningful changes to your account and is only taking a message basically and you will get a "call back." That said, if it wasn't for solid operational teams at the street level like with Lauren, this chain of storage units would be in trouble. Other than that, can't complain. Everything was secure, nothing caught on fire (one storage place in the past had that problem) and I always felt like my belongings were very secure at this facility. I'm a bit fascinated with the facility's box truck which is hardly used. It's for rent, it's not included. There's a discount during your first two weeks...but U-Haul is cheaper still. That's a six figure prop basically. Odd way to spend money. How about not do crazy capex projects like that and just pass on the savings to the customers? Sorry, my business manager brain just won't shut up.

The Concord site is ideally located , kept clean , dry and at an even temperature- now those of you you have you storage know how important that is. The staff are super efficient , polite and straight forward to deal with. Pricing is clear and transparent. Not the cheapest but I would not got for cheapest as far as storing goes.

We've had a single storage unit with Public Storage for over a year. They lure you in with a low…read morerate, then hike the price by 30% once you're fully moved in. Recently, I was a few days late on a payment and was hit with a $40 late fee. I deducted that amount from my payment. Two days later, Public Storage charged my debit card without authorization to collect the fee. I've since instructed Wells Fargo to block all future charges from them. Going forward, I'll pay by check only--and I recommend others avoid using cards. I've also filed a complaint with the California Attorney General's Office. Public Storage is a publicly traded company--are they really this desperate? Between the surprise rate increases, $15/month insurance fees, and excessive $40 late charges, it's clear they're driven by greed. Avoid this company. They profit heavily while providing little in return--you do all the work.

We sent our kitchen assembly instructions ahead of time to make sure they were aware. My overall sense is that Carlos is fairly capable and experienced but either his team or him are not as careful as we had damages to our finished wood toe kicks and our lacquer cabinets looked like they had been dragged over nails as they were being assembled. I didn't appreciate that they made 0 mention of it at all and I had to point it out. As the homeowner, I essentially had to baby sit them for 5 days through the install since it felt like they were incapable / unwilling to read the kitchen cabinet installation instructions in detail and I caught several mistakes early on during the cabinet assembly that made me hesitant to leave it unattended. Carlos's attitude was particularly bad through the entire experience as well. Always made it seem like we were inconveniencing him or being too nit picky even if we caught some mistakes. At one point, he even threatened to quit after the assembly but before the installation simply because he had underestimated the complexity of the project. We did have a 1 day delay due to some plumbing / electrical issues but that's pretty typical as far as kitchen cabinet installations go AFAIK. In the end, they were able to get all the kitchen cabinets installed, albeit with a lot of effort from my end due to the more custom nature of the project. The price was affordable and the work was solid (minus the scratches) but for me the bad attitude wasn't worth it.

She is very committed to doing what she can to keep the lot secure and genuinely cares about managing the business. Last month, I was sitting waiting for my turn to exit the gate as someone was entering. After the vehicle entered, another vehicle snuck in before the gate closed and drove around the truck that opened the gate. There is a strict policy that states everyone must go in and out one at a time in order to prevent unwanted people out. Jackie happened to be watching and immediately got in her vehicle and chased the unauthorized vehicle down. This was first hand proof to me that Jackie actually cares about keeping this lot secure and is very attentive to what's going on in the lot. The biggest neutral is as another reviewer said, Walnut Creek's location is not accessible, as it only has stairs to the space while the Oakland location has a lift. However I found the Oakland location much harder to navigate (dark) and a lot less clean. A few things to note about Stuf are that the process of signing up is not smooth and they now require a move out photo, subject to a $150 fee, which isn't listed in the sign up documentation. However I could see this location of Stuf being useful if you stay in Walnut Creek regularly or rent out your home, as it's close to BART and several of the local hotels. All in all, we've been very pleased with the company and would definitely recommend them to those needing something walking distance to downtown, but would prefer if they had more of a membership/pod set-up where you're given the ability to switch locations and turn off and on your tenancy.
