Ah, the American phenomenon that is storage. Interestingly enough, you cannot find this in the far east. It just doesn't exist. Americans are pack rats! Including yours truly (getting better about it though.) It was really easy to work with Lauren, the manager at this location. I do dislike the phone process of Central Self Storage overall. Everything is routed through a call center. You can never directly call your location to speak with on-site staff. I guess if you have a large portfolio of storage units, this economy of scale makes sense for the owner, but not the customer since the overseas call center doesn't know anything, can't make meaningful changes to your account and is only taking a message basically and you will get a "call back." That said, if it wasn't for solid operational teams at the street level like with Lauren, this chain of storage units would be in trouble. Other than that, can't complain. Everything was secure, nothing caught on fire (one storage place in the past had that problem) and I always felt like my belongings were very secure at this facility. I'm a bit fascinated with the facility's box truck which is hardly used. It's for rent, it's not included. There's a discount during your first two weeks...but U-Haul is cheaper still. That's a six figure prop basically. Odd way to spend money. How about not do crazy capex projects like that and just pass on the savings to the customers? I don't know what happened with other reviewers but... We had a really good experience getting a unit there. We rented through a third party, Sparefoot, which let us get a month for free. Chris, the property manager, is a really nice and straight forward guy. I told him we were rushing there on my lunch, and he met us on the property, showed us the unit, and got all the paperwork done in about 10 minutes. Also offered us cold waters while we filled out paperwork....just a real stand up guy. Since I was renting the unit 2 days before the month was up, he told me my entire month of Sept would be free, not August. I thought that was very respectable of him. The unit seemed clean enough, I didn't see any dead bug shells or droppings. I have good faith our stuff will be secured here. read more

The SECURITY GATE is always left open. So if you want to walk in and cruise around you can. Cameras arent everywhere!!!! Not the cheapest, their cheaper on clayton road, right down the street across from kmart. And they have security, and you cant just walk on the property, as you can here. read more

I can't wait to get my stuff out of this place. I was dumb and didn't check the reviews online before getting a place to store furniture between selling a house and buying a new one. We rented a unit and moved in our furniture with no issues but when I came back to grab some stuff from my unit I noticed that the lock on my unit was not MINE. I was very concerned, it turns out someone had cut my lock off and put there own on. When I finally was able to get into my unit all of my tools were taken. The manager didn't really care at all, said that my unit wasn't covered by their cameras and that there was nothing that they could do. He gave me the information for the insurance and took a picture of my unit. I will be moving my stuff out of here as soon as possible. read more

I've had my belongings here for over a year. CHRIS the front desk gentleman has been extremely accommodating, direct, attentive & helpful through my whole experience. Best experience with a moving company when it comes to the customer service. Only thing that sucked was the price jumping up over a hundred dollars after the three month deal. read more

I don't really know why all the bad press.... Place is the cheapest for a reason, successfully kept my stuff in this location for over six month. Really bad experience. After bringing my boxes back from the storage unit, my place got infested with roaches. Plus I did not have access to my unit for an entire month. They closed the place with no explanation or warning what so ever. I kept calling to find out what happen. They said we are working in the place and we do not know when it will be ready. DO NOT EVER COME HERE OR RENT A UNIT FROM THIS PLACE!!! I would give this place no stars if possible. They have horrible customer services, both the property manager and the supervising manager, are not willing to work on issues or to take fault in the failure of their maintaining the property. We started renting out our unit in May of 2016 because we were renting out our house to live for a year in Hawaii on a teaching contract. When looking at them, we asked multiple times if the unit is water tight, which we were told, yes and he would guarantee it by the property manager Kris. So, the price was right at the time and we decided to move forward. Fast forward one year, we come back to retrieve our stuff to move back into our home. We come back to find out we had multiple things molded in the unit, which included our couch and mattress, about $3k worth of items that we had to replace. We also found a ton of roaches and bugs in a lot of our boxes and belongings. We tried to reason with the property manager Kris and Supervising manager Joesph. The property manager stated that since we refused their insurance and had our own, that they cannot help us. I have made a claim with my insurance but because it was their negligence on maintaining the property and checking for leaks ( which our unit had 4 different leaks in it!) that they will not cover it because the unit was not taken care of properly which could of been prevented by the property management company. When contacting the property management via email, we had to threaten to get our attorney involved is when he replied. When we were getting nowhere as he was not willing to reason with us or make it right, we asked for his supervisors name and number. When I called him, explained the situation and ask how he is going to make it right. He said I was lying about him guaranteeing it would be water tight, and that we refused their insurance company, so he would not give us a dime and it was too bad. He even refused to check the unit in a way to prove to our insurance (if he is so sure) that the unit is maintained. When I said, maybe i have to get my attorney involved. He said, please do, it won't be our only law suit from negligence going on right now. But then proceeded to tell me, that all their properties are well maintained. This place has some of the worst business practices I have ever seen and the worst customer service! I will not recommend to my friends or family or anyone that is! So I created a yelp account for two reasons. The first being to write this review. The second to write a review of their competitor (next door) For starters, I wouldn't even call them Central self storage. I am assuming they cut a deal with Central self to use their website for people looking to secure a storage rental online, like myself. You get to the location and the place is called Ygnacio Valley self storage. Gut feeling when I got there was to cut the $20 deposit I put online (yes they required that) and look for another storage facility. Being that I had to unload a Uhaul by myself and that this is only going to be short term, I went ahead with the rental process. I did the whole dance bit with the manager about security and safety. I was assured that cameras are always on. Signed off on the paper work and started moving my things in. When I finished, and closed my storage, I noticed that if you shift the metal panel with the lock ever so slightly to the left you can open the storage unit with the lock on. (Second gut feeling telling me to leave) I told the manager and showed him what I found out you can do and he moved me to another unit. After all was said and done, I received a call from the assistant manger 4 days (4 DAYS!!!) telling me my unit did not have a lock. From that point I knew some of my belongings were stolen. Sure enough, they got away with taking things they are more than likely trying to sell. I 'm betting your asking yourself, well what about the cameras and security? Oddly enough, the camera pointing in the direction of my unit was pointed up. I decided to pick up my things and move out of there as soon as possible. When I came into move out the manager didn't flinch once when he saw me. He gave me the keys to the lock they put on since my lock was cut using bolt cutters. He showed no remorse and didn't even offer an apology for what happened. Moral of the story folks, go with your gut. I would not recommend Ygnacio Valley self storage to anyone unless you want your personal items to be taken from you. *Lastly I'm not sure if I can say this or not but it sure felt like it was done from the inside* For a storage review on the better side, search for the storage company next to this one and you'll see a 5 star review from me. read more

They weren't always open during business hrs which caused a real inconvenience for me after finding a ride there on more than one occasion but after closing out my unit there and salv army refused to take my things after an arranged pick up, Chris, the prop mgr took care of it for me which was extremely helpful read more

Don't ever store your belongings at this facility. The cameras are fake and there is no security. Don't be fooled by the gate. Our entire unit was ripped off 40 days after we moved in. This place is the worst. If I could give it negative stars I would. read more

Terrible terrible terrible! The day I moved in they painted the unit and when I moved in it was still somewhat wet. I didn't notice this the day I moved in because I was in such a rush because I had to return my uhaul. I come back two months later to unload the two couches I stored and they're stuck to walls and floors! I had to peel them off with force! It's been ridiculous process. The manager will take no responsibility and claims that in the 30 years he's worked there he had never had an issue with any tenant in any units. Not only am I seeing that in true by everyone else's comments on here but having worked in customer service myself for 10 years it is very hard to say that in 30 years you've never had one issue.. Not one single issue??? In 30 years? Come on dude. Also he said they have to have 30 days notice before vacating, which was never explained to me, but is also untrue because the next day I went online and was able to put notice to vacate the unit the next day. They are trying to rip me off and I will be contacting their district manager. The manager of the storage place is Chris. He was nice to me the first day I rented but after I complained my couches were messed up he was completely different. Do not trust these people here at all. For any future tenants coming to Yelp after the problem occurred their distric manager is Cathi. Maybe I'll have more help with her. Will update later on the outcome. read more
