We bought a new home in Oakley but the builder can't turn over the new home until a couple of months after we purchase. We sold our old home first and we have to move out and store our belongings for a couple of months. Oakley Gateway Self Storage is just a mile from our newly built house so we decided to store our belongings there. The process was very simple. We didn't have a hard time getting a unit and renting one. We opted for the biggest unit and the unit was on the ground floor. We don't want the hassle of going up and down the elevator and staying on the ground floor is convenient. Getting access to the building is easy and requires you to have your access number at the gate. They also have us a discounted rate on our second month and the monthly rate is reasonable. We only rented the unit for a couple of months and the process was easy and we didn't encounter any setbacks or complications during our stay at their unit. Management was very helpful if you have any questions. My only issue is when you try to call their direct line, they always take you to their voicemail. Moving can be such a pain. These guys make it so much easier. They know all about moving and what can happen. They know about the frustrations that could possibly arise for some, especially people that don't move often. So they provide Great customer service, and offer tips, and are of true help. George is fantastic! All the staff are kind, courteous and informative. The area is secure. One has to purchase the storage unit, then a gate code is given to access the unit anytime during business hours, without needing to go back into the office. This keeps things quite private. After calling several places, I phoned Oakley Gateway self storage & spoke with Jason who was warm, friendly, & answered every one of my many questions. My wife & I ended up going to the facility to check it out, & met Jason in person, & we both came away with a great impression of both him & the storage facility itself. It's very clean, & definitely makes you feel safe while inside as there are cameras everywhere! Now I'm not the biggest fan of being on cameras but in a place like this where many of your valuables are being kept, it just makes sense. The added security is a great theft deterrent, while giving us peace of mind. On another note, this facility also has a small moving truck you can rent for a day to help with getting your stuff to storage which again my wife & I was very impressed with. I don't usually post my experience on Yelp, but in this case, I had to share my experience at Oakley Gateway Self Storage. We are in the process of selling my parent's house and wanted to rent a 10x15 storage initially. We were shown the unit that was available by Jason Mordecai, the onsite manager. We were actually looking for a 10x20 space. It so happened that this particular size unit was about to become available. Jason was very pleasant and helpful. So he showed us the unit that was going to be available and we looked at the pros and cons with the smaller unit. We weren't in a hurry to get the space so it made sense to wait a day to get the bigger unit. We saved money and truly enjoyed the experience. Lets say someone rents one of your units and is out of the state for a yr. He comes back and notices someone has been in his storage, or went in his storage and changed the lock and his key won't fit. I just experienced a really bad service at this location. I arrived 1:20pm to the storage facility, parked and unloaded all my boxes over the cart, walked into the elevator, since my unit is located on the 2nd floor. The elevator door shutted and the elevator started beeping, after pressing the button to the 2nd floor the elevator did not move and continue to beep, and got me trap for few mins, until the door opened on its own. I walked out with my items and noticed the elevator kept closing and opening the doors on its own. So I walked to the front desk which is located just across the of the elevator. Knocked the door, and no one responded, so I called the customer service, I explained to the lady over the phone that I was trying yo her to the 2nd floor but the elevator was not responding, and that no one was at the front desk, she asked me if there was a sign saying if they were out of the office, I said I didn't see one at first, but then I stated there is one sign that says they'll be back at 2pm (this conversation should be recorded, since is a recorded line - you will understand why I'm pointing out this) . The lady over the phone told me she was going to forward the message to the clerk. So I waited the 30 mins remaining to 2pm. Finally the clerk came out of the office, and did eye contact with me, I was standing by the elevator at this point. Immediately after the clerk just pointed to the sign that said coming back at 2pm. I walked towards him, and he pulled his phone to show me the email he received from the phone service lady, he said: "there is a sign", "you said there was no sign" pointing to the email on his phone. I replied I did say there was a sign (recorded line remember). He replied back: "no you didn't" "you said there was no sign". The clerk was more concerned on pointing out he placed a sign he'd be back than actually trying to help me out. I told him the elevator is not working and my unit is on the 2nd story. He replied well, the elevator is broken, and I will call the tech to come by, you can come back another time. I said I waited over 30 mins and have all my items out, then the clerk said again come back another time, and walked away. Feedback to the management of this facility: You should train your employees to be more courteous and sympathetic. Providing options could of go long ways. Your employee was more concerned on ensuring I confirm there was a sign of returning than actually helping me out. He could say something like: "there is stairs on the other side of the building" and offer to help me carry some of the boxes, since the elevator was not working. Or even provide a time frame for the tech to arrive. He could of be sympathetic to the fact of I had already unloaded all my items and waited for him to come back. Instead He was condescending, trying to prove he did not do anything wrong with his sign. I understand he might have been on a break, reason why I waited over half an hour for him to come back. I definitely would not recommend this storage place to anyone with this type of service read more

Let me start off by saying George has phenomenal customer service skills. I called the office to inquire about about availability and cost. George explained the different size units and told me he may a storage the size I needed. He said he would give me a call back within 20 minutes and he did just that. Upon arriving to the office I was greeted at the door by George with a mask on and offered me water and hand sanitizer. He then showed me the actual unit I would be renting. He was friendly and gave me detailed information and options based on what I need to store. They had the best competitive price in the area as well. If I could give 0 stars, I would! DO NOT GO HERE. My husband put a unit on hold. We got there 15 minutes before they were going to close and they KICKED us out of the door. Screaming, yelling, slamming doors, and threatening to call the police because they had "plans" at 5:00 and had to leave. By the way, I was 8 months pregnant and still had the nerve to kick a pregnant lady out. DO NOT come here. These people do not care about their customers at all and are the rudest people ever. Moving is always stressful especially when your given a very short notice to vacate without knowing where to go. Luckily I was able to find some help from George @ Oakley Gateway Self Storage. I thought I was only going to need 1 unit but George recommended an additional smaller unit based on the size of my current situation and items I had told him would be getting stored inside. I thought I could tetris my apt into the bigger unit, but felt like a schmuck when I couldn't. When I went back to the office to inquire about a second unit, George got me signed up with another great promotion. I am a long term tenant who recently moved out of one of the two units, a (10 X 15), that I was renting. You can definitely tell more about a storage company from the move out, than the move-in. I thought Oakley Gateway Self Storage was a well maintained class organization from my first introduction and tour with George. He's a natural people person, and you could tell he was proud of the business he represented. As I removed the contents and cleaned the unit, I was impressed. There were absolutely no rat or mouse droppings - not even a spider web. This rental unit was on the inside, and there were always automatic lights at entry in the eves, and no disgusting odors. I say that because previous storage companies I've rented from couldn't make these claims. I thought I was moving into a secure, clean and well maintained storage facility, and after more than a year of coming and going, nothing about that original analysis has changed. These are the kinds of things potential renters should know about the storage facility they enter into relationship with... At times, there's a new face in the office Damien; but, the service remains stellar. Apparently, George was promoted to Regional Management., (Not Surprised). I am so glad to have my stuff out of this place. I have had no issues with the personnel at this location, the employees I have ever encountered have always been friendly and professional. Their prices are competitive and I did get a good promo when renting. The location is convenient, however there is a degree of difficulty to access the enter driveway, if you are coming from the east, you have to pass the place and do a U turn and back track to location. Intially we started out with a unit on the driveway. It was convenient to drive right up to the unit. Although real convenient for mice, bugs and spiders to access too. My unit was right beside one of those mice boxes, I don't know if it attracted the mice, but my boxes were eaten, my six month old loveseat cushions had fecal matter and urine stains (I took to dump). Not just pests, but dust. How can that much dust enter an enclosed unit? When we dumped the stuff that was damaged and took a load of stuff to our new place we were left with more space than needed. We opted to downsize to a unit upstairs. However, the upstairs units have issues of their own. When relocating my stuff and using their elevators they didn't always work. Pretty frustrating, especially when office is closed and nobody around to help. Luckily my girlfriend was upstairs and she came down using the stairs so we had to use the stairs to carry the remainder of stuff to new space-really aggravating. Plus there is no ventilation-fans or otherwise, and it gets so hot upstairs, be sure to bring water so you can stay hydrated. They do have a lot of lighting, but sometimes the sensors wouldn't work so you had no light. The upstairs always creeped out my girlfriend, she wouldn't go alone, said felt like a mausoleum up there. I did also have some strange encounters with other customers. One lady appeared as though she was living in the unit... I found it odd that when ever I visited she was there. Sometimes her door was down and I could see her feet/legs walking around. Some dude in the bathroom jerkin' off with the door ajar-WTF! And another lady that appeared to be on some heavy drugs, she could hardly function, I once saw her standing and weaving then she fell and hit the wall, I could hear her moan so I knew she was still alive, I didn't want to get involved, so I got the heck out of there. Oh... and the free truck... not so free, you have to pay for mileage, if you don't have your own insurance that covers a commerical vehicle you have to take their insurance. I tried to book the truck but always told it's being used/reserved when I wanted it. I had to rent UHaul, and when bringing my stuff in, guess what... their truck was just sitting there-that kinda pissed me off. I think if ever I need storage services again, I'll check out the new places like on Cypress or the one near the bridge. read more
