Visited last night, perfect evening ambience, inside and outdoor seating, very nice, not too big and noisy in a Saturday night. Parking sucks but it's well worth the extra walking. I appreciate the classy small business vibes, the healthy and high quality food options, clean bathrooms, and the casual atmosphere was exactly what we needed. Order at the counter, pick your table, they bring you your food but you get your own flatware, napkins, water, leftover containers, etc. We had the beef entree (can't remember the names) and Asian chicken entree, and the beets and salad appetizers. All tasted amazing! While not cheap, it's definitely in the sweet spot of value - good portion sizes so that we had leftover portions for a second meal. Came by as a friend had recommended their healthy dishes. Food was five stars it was flavorful and the textures were complimentary of each other. The outdoor patio is super cute hidden in the tree tops. There was a leaf blower in the property above that was loud but probably doesn't happen every day. I've been coming to this place for years! (8-ish) started back when they were on Sunset Blvd. I can say it's one of my top 3 spot in this area for "quality, consistency , and thoughtfulness on variety of items. They always change up their Fresca drinks, their soups are always revolving based sometimes on season or maybe just what they get at the farmers market which is one of the best thing I love about them. Always tastes fresh, flavorful and creative. Their Ricotta Cheesecake is so light and fluffy and is my kryptonite. Their side Potatoes are so delicious and I originally got addicted to their salmon belly tacos. These days with my schedule, the bowls are my go to for easy meals on busy days. Their Pavlova is divine and they have a decent natural wine selection when you're in the mood or just cave and grab a Diet Coke. They just moved to a new location with a tiny parking lot but tons of outside seating! I came for the first time last week and tried 3 of their sides and salmon belly tacos. For the sides I picked the green beans, beets + carrots, and broccoli. Everything was fresh and so delicious! I would say the sides were a bit oily to me but that's my opinion on most things lol. The broccoli didn't seem the freshest(some of the florets were yellowing) but besides that they were all flavorful. Salmon belly tacos were also yummy but I think it was missing something - maybe a punch of acidity? I live literally several blocks from here and finally decided to stop by. I just say I'll be back! A different dining experience with prepared foods, but these prepared foods were fresh, vibrant and yummy. This is a great place for lunch when you just don't have all the time. Came here before seeing 30 Minute Musical at Akbar. My fiance and I shared the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, the Chinese Chicken Salad, and the broccoli. Everything was delicious! It is so non pretentious and casual, yet the food is wonderful. You order at the register, get a number, and your food is brought out to you very quickly. The plus side of this arrangement is not only the speed of ordering and receiving your dinner, but also when you're done, you leave. No waiting for the check or paying the waiter, you dine and you're off to the show. I did familiarize myself with the online menu before arrival, it helps speed things up. From the street, it is a bit hard to find as there is no typical signage. Just look for two old house like structures up some steps. Easy parking on the other side of the street, and free parking after 6:00. There are two spots in front if you've been here before and are familiar with the location. Garlic and butter, what a fabulous combination of cooking ingredients and good use of that is made here. The simple side of roasted potato's is amazing as well as the grilled salmon. The fish is cooked perfect and is actually a fair sized portion. Of course it's smaller than what I would cook at home but larger that the stingy portion offered at many restaurants these days. The salmon belly tacos are not only delicious but are three normal sized tacos. None of the so called "Street Taco" bs here. For greens I tried the roasted broccoli. Can't go wrong with garlic and chilies skillfully blended in. The cheese cake is not touted as New York style, but that is what it is, and it is a great version of that style. I haven't had a N. Y. style is a long time, and I really appreciated this one, not too sweet, not at all dry, light and airy, with fresh berries. I loved this dish. Actually I loved everything I had here tonight, including the latte brewed with a nice medium/dark roast, presenting great flavor. Hey! My only complaint: This latte is a one shot size, not a typical 12 to 14 oz. Way too small a cup for $6.00. Oh yeah, maybe it's a bit pricey here, but 100% worth it. What a stunning hidden gem! The best way to describe the experience is like Lemonade or Panera Bread but 100x more food and better quality and taste. I got the salmon plate with Mac and cheese and beet salad. First, the food came out SO quickly!! The salmon had a perfect sear and the seasoning was delicious. My favorite was the beet salad. It was so refreshing and tasted fresh. The max and cheese was also great and came topped with breadcrumbs. The pricing is extremely fair especially for the portion sizes. I was in the Silverlake neighborhood and my friend highly recommended Forage. I've never been. I'm so happy I listened! It's super charming and feels like you're at home. You order at the counter and find your own seating. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor seating feels like you're in a cabin in the woods. The three items we ordered to share were all delicious. The fried potatoes were seasoned to perfection (lots of garlic with fish sauce vinaigrette), the fried chicken sandwich felt light and healthy, and the salmon tacos were juicy and crunchy. They have alot of healthy options for me as well, especially vegan options. Anyways the fish was cooked to perfection, the veggies were the perfect touch and balance to the entire dish. The entire dish was bursting with flavors. They have classic dishes like lasagna, quiche, and pizza. But they also have a rotating menu whereas they just have new stuff to offer on the regular according to one of the workers. The staff was amazing and made us feel welcome. They actually checked in on us a number of times and made sure that we had all we needed. And they also offered us some of their delicious looking pastries. We didn't get any this time. But I give it a week before I'm back. As far as the ambiance of this place. This is definitely a beautiful vibe. They offer practically no parking but there were lots of open metered parking during my visit (on a weekday lunch). Service is still very nice and efficient (special shout-out to Dustin). Summary: If you want high quality food at 1/2 the price of a 5- star restaurant, this is it! Have you ever longed to walk into the backyard of a great cook's home and simply able to mingle with local people for good food, feeling welcomed? Forage is the closest to your imagination. I am not a foodie. I don't really care about restaurant once I learned about the business long time ago. I never talked to restaurant people. I get it. Restaurants need to make money, and most of the time, they cut cost by sacrificing the quality of each ingredient. Cheaper egg, cheaper tomato, cheaper potato, cheaper steak meat and chicken... Well, at the end, every restaurant was my disappointment because I always wanted good ingredients. Food should be flavorful by itself without much seasoning. But those ingredients are usually channeled to fancy 5-star restaurants. And they are beyond my means. I can't afford to dress up and go to those top restaurants all the time. So I never looked to visit any restaurant for the past 20 years. We rather buy high quality vegetables, fruits and meat. Then we cook at home most of the time... Except when kids asked for something. So take-out foods were our routines for a long time... Until I stepped into Forage almost by accident for a friend's birthday party. The food at the dinner was memorable for me. We shared multiple dishes, and every single one of them broke my prejudice about the restaurant business. The food made from high quality ingredients. Menus are adjusted by season based on what's the best ones at that time. Light seasoning since every bite was of full flavor. I came back for breakfast this time. Breakfast menus are $19 and under, and every bite is a joy. My son and I tried breakfast burrito and Avocado toast. I feel nourished. Good ingredients with its own flavor, coming together in orchestra. Imagine you are at a fast food restaurant. Stuffing yourself up with 2000 calorie burger with fries and soda makes you feel bloated at the end. Empty calories. But the good quality food recharge your body when you need the rest and healing after a long week. I love the outdoor ambiance once I walk up to the 2nd floor where the restaurant is. It really feel like you are in the backyard of someone's home. Plus a large kitchen connected to backyard. You stand in line and order your food first. Then grab the number and take a seat where you want to seat. They bring the food for you. You go to mini pantry and grab your utensils, napkins, and cups of water to set up your own table. There's technically 4-car parking spots, but they are always full. So you have to park your car in the neighborhood and walk a little (0.1 mile at the most). read more
