Optometrist had very old equipment and missed or wasn't able to diagnose that I needed a laser treatment before a prescription could accurately be made. After erroneous prescription made glasses that made my vision worse than without glasses in my right eye. After consulting another optometrist had condition analyzed and was referred to an eye surgeon. Then had to wait, as medically necessary, to have vision retested. Improved lenses were prescribed but For Eyes would not honor the remake guarantee. Dr.Freeman just did my yearly contact lense check visit. At the end of this she told me she will put the drops to dilate the eyes. I said i didn't want to do that because i cannot drive and she kind of forced on me that she needed to do it, without understanding my point of view. At the end she gave me the prescription and did not say "Bye" to me. It is a ridiculus attitude and very unprofessional! I will never go there again! read more

Terrible experiencing purchasing new glasses!!!!! I went into their store over a month ago to buy new frames/lenses. The glasses came in 2 weeks later but the lenses were not the quality that I had purchased and they were also not fit properly into the frame. The glasses had to be sent back. I was told that they would be a rush order because they had to be remade. It's been nearly three weeks since the glasses were sent back. No one has provided me with any updates and every time I call, I am never able to connect with anyone. I've also left voicemails requesting updates and a call back, nothing. Such an annoying process. Bought brand new glasses and they ruined them putting the lenses in them. They were protruding off of my face on one side and they couldn't fix them and were totally rude and unhelpful about it. I could have returned the glasses had they been knowledgeable about putting lenses into certain glasses. I was also sold a "lifetime repair plan" but when I recently returned to have them repaired, I was told that their repair plan had expired. I cannot recommend her a bd her office more. I had an eye emergency last night just before 5:30 pm. Not wanting to go to the ER I walked into for eyes and asked her team if the dr was in and could look at me. In spite of it being closing time, they happily helped me. Dr Freeman examined me and determined I needed to see an eye surgeon. She got me connected with several facilities and then followed up later that eve to point me back to one in particular. I got connected the next day with the eye surgeons and ended up having my torn retina repaired that same day. I was blown away when Dr freeman called me that night to make sure I was ok and to check in overall. Given the fact that I wasn't a current patient of hers at the time, I felt she went above and beyond to help me and ensure I got the care I needed. I don't recommend having glasses made here, especially not high-end or difficult prescriptions. I have progressives and astigmatism. I was never happy with the glasses they made for me. They said "wear them for a couple weeks; you'll get used to them". Well, people get used to the smell, living in New Jersey too, or living by a dairy farm. I wish there was a ratting for less than one star. Be aware: Never purchase lenses from a store than does not have a lab within the store!!... especially if some front line personnel is technically competent, working on commissions (I believe) and does not understand English. I will sue them in Small Claims. Time line: I was to leave for overseas within 2 weeks and extended stay for 6 weeks. Their lab in Florida should not make an error in filling the prescription given the 10 days turn around. The glasses return from the factory but my right cannot read. The left eye is ok. Another optometrist confirms this and states, of course, the For Eyes lab screwed up. Your reading area is below the frame. I go back to the store. They do not detect the error and state the lenses must be redone and can only be checked by the lab in Florida I have no choice but to leave for overseas with one eye reading power only . I return from overseas and go back to the store after 6 weeks. Bottom line:The store takes no responsibility blaming the factory. Still does note the error. They want me to send the lens back to Florida AGAIN. Another 2 weeks minimum without proper reading glasses. I state and they confirm ONLY after I tell them that the reading area is below the frame. I ask:them let me keep the glasses for the time being while new lens hopefully arrive without another screw up. I least I can see with one eye They refuse and do not acknowledge my discomfort and pain (watering eyes for weeks); they will only refund the money. Side note: the manager in Corte Madera when I state I will take legal action hangs up. I have decided to sue them in small claims court for far more than the $600 given the discomfort. I'm the human equivalent of a '73 Chevy. Bits are falling off of me, left and right. My teeth (well, tooth) is all messed up, and now I needed glasses. Yep, even though my vision's 20/20, I have astigmatism, and needed to snag some reading glasses, so off I went. Their frame selection isn't bad - plenty to choose from, although to me, they all looked the same. I asked for help, but didn't really get it - the girl who was supposed to be helping me out, took my insurance info and disappeared. Every so often I'd ask for her opinion on a set of frames, and she'd half-heartedly glance up and say "Those look good". Honestly, once I messed with her, tried on a pair of thick pink womens' frames and asked - yup, same response. But, they helped me keep within my budget, even though I had to pay for all the options I was unaware didn't come standard. "Oh, your insurance pays for basic lenses. You don't get the UV coating, the non reflective glare, the scratch resistant material, the rustproofing, the bumper-to-bumper clearcoating..." And ready in 2 business days. Happy with the glasses I got, even though it feels incredibly weird to wear 'em. read more

Now before I even walked in For Eyes, I had already made up my mind that I was going to get my lenses here. I've checked the price and have browsed here numerous times before. So I go in and stop in front of the desk of this woman who's on the phone. She's talking in a foreign language with somebody who I'm assuming is NOT a customer, judging from the way she keeps laughing and playing with her pen. There was only one other store employee there and she was already helping somebody else. So I sit across from the woman's desk to wait. I asked another customer sitting there if I needed to get a number to be helped, she said no. I sat there and waited patiently. And I waited, and waited, and waited. Ok, I KNOW you can see me woman and from the way I'm fidgeting and looking at you I KNOW you know I need something yet you continue to ignore me. A doctor finally came out with her patient. I go to her and ask whom should I speak with to get lenses. Surprise, surprise. She points me to blabby woman on the phone. The doctor tells the woman to help me and said woman looks at me (as if she just saw me) with a surprise on her face and says, "Oh yes, please come sit down." I am completely annoyed now. I give her the specific lens I want for the price that was quoted to me on the phone. She basically insults me by telling me that that price was the cheapest and is for the thickest lens they have. She then goes on and says, "But if you're worried about the price and you don't care what people think then go ahead and get the cheapest one." First, you ignore me (a potential customer) for 10 minutes while you're chatting on the phone on company time then you tell me I'm cheap and unfashionable? I can feel myself getting angry and if I don't get out of here RIGHT NOW I might just end up smacking you. I ended the session and walked out. You're not getting my business, now or ever! read more

I have sadly gone through a very depressing and dangerous experience with four eyes optical in Corte Madera My first order of two pair of glasses from four eyes were both wrong prescription. I thought there was something the matter with My eye but when I got to the doctor and it turns out that they had given me the wrong prescription But this is just the beginning I had bad surgery on my left eye so I can only see out of my right, and I've been afraid to go ahead with the surgery on my one good eye so I really depend on glasses . When I went back in to For Eyes to show them that my prescription was wrong I had thought that they would get me glasses quickly.... WRONG!! I called daily. I'm destined to remain eyeglass-less forever. Debbie: I see. Let me have a look. Uh, huh. Yes. I see. (visually measuring my face). I'll be right back... (3 mins later) Debbie: try these and these josh l: Holy (explicatives removed) ... I don't believe it! These actually look good! I could wear these. lisa w: Yeah, those actually look good on you. Long story short, I walked out of there with not one but TWO pairs of glasses that I like for under $200. I think the real trick is not where you buy glasses, but finding a person (like Debbie) with that special talent of sizing you up and picking some frames that will look good on you. read more

After an extended and unpleasant experience, I am now seeking a new place to get my glasses. Because I've been going to For Eyes for, oh, fifteen or twenty years now, I put up with a lot of bad service in the last few years, thinking each time must be a fluke. There have been repeated encounters with staff who are incompetent, rude or both. One of the optometrists is very nice, but can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my eyes; the other has the personality of a cold fish. Now, after spending a HUGE amount of time and a not-insubstantial amount of money, I am now the proud owner of two pairs of glasses with incorrect prescriptions. As I see it, an optometrist who can't figure out what is wrong with my eyes is the one at fault in the situation, and at the least they should have refunded me the cost of my useless lenses, but the only offer I got was the opportunity to pay for another eye exam. Thanks, For Eyes. Thanks a lot. Here are the details: I had my eye exam a couple of years ago to get my "backup" pair of glasses, which I only started wearing recently when I lost my main pair. When I started getting headaches I realized that the vision is mildly but distinctly blurry in the left eye and crisp only in the right. When I complained, For Eyes did the right thing and re-checked my prescription for free - and concluded that my prescription had not changed, and it was probably a flaw in the lens material. That seemed a little weird, but I thought, OK, fine. They are the experts so I guess that makes sense. Since I was getting new lenses I decided to get new frames that I liked better, too. EXCEPT the new glasses (made with a different lens material) had the same problem. So I called and the optometrist checked my prescription AGAIN. Though she said she didn't see a problem, she ordered me a new left lens anyway (for free, I can't say they did everything wrong). Except, when I got the new pair, THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT GONE. This time, I was told I would have to pay for another exam because they had "done everything that they can." This is when I decided to take my business elsewhere - why would I pay them to do an exam (again) that they did for free last month? And why SHOULD I pay? I find it hard to imagine that my fairly ordinary eye problem is unsolveable... Did I mention that an optometrist who can't figure out what is wrong with my eyes is the one at fault when my lenses don't do their job? And that a refund is in order? I should have listened to my sister, who quit coming here after she ordered contacts that never came the first time she ordered them, and came with LENSES FOR ONLY HER RIGHT EYE the second time she ordered them, which is so weird I don't even know what to say since her vision is bad in both eyes... read more

For Eyes has been my go-to for glasses and contacts for over 10 years now. Their prices are consistently lower (especially if you pay attention to all the little things that the other guys leave out of their ads) and they have a very nice selection of frames. I've got three pairs of Ray Bans from them that I am regularly wearing right now (not at the same time -- you know what I mean). Over the years I've probably bought 10 pairs there, various brands and styles. They have a 30-day exchange policy, too, which always make me feel safe when I am trying some frames that are outside my comfort zone (not that I have ever decided to use it). Dr. Freeman is the best. Each and every exam I have had with her (every two years for the past 10) has been super-thorough and left my vision super-sharp. She's SUPER, I love her!!! read more

This is a very good place to buy eyewear. The staff members I worked with recently (primarily Sarah and Pooja) are well-trained, professional and accommodating. I found that my first set of progressive lens glasses were not working correctly for me. Sarah was very patient in determining the cause and remedy. The latter involved switching to a different frame and lens type as well, and these work quite well. It's been a couple of months since our experience here, but I have just been to Costco Optical and it was the polar opposite experience and it reminded how frustrated I was here. We had a vision insurance plan which could only be used at a few places and we chose to go here. The Dr and staff were helpful, friendly and professional. The woman who does the glasses, not so much. My 17 year old daughter was picking out her first pair of glasses and the clerk was clearly growing impatient. It's her first pair of glasses, why do you care how long it takes her? This woman is the most unprofessional, rude person I've encountered in a service environment in a long time. We finally settled on a pair of glasses and she insisted on upgrading everything, saying our insurance didn't cover certain things. I had brought the paperwork, she was just wrong. We left without getting any glasses and headed straight to Costco. Great help, great glasses at a third of the price - even after what the insurance would have paid. I would think that with all the competition from online glasses sites like Zenni, customer service would be high on an optical shop's priority list, but apparently, For Eyes didn't get the memo. read more

I am really pleased with the new contacts i got from For Eyes. Dr. Freeman is great! I had gone to a very expensive guy and spent $3000 for lens and eye exercises (which didn't help much at all) and didn't get as good of visual acuity as I have now from Dr. Freeman. My only cavaet is that when I was choosing frames for reading glasses they didn't offer me their on-going special of 2 for $99. I was going to end up paying $247 for a pair of custom reading glasses! I am a repeat customer at For Eyes. most recently i went in november and bought new glasses and sunglasses. Thrilled with the sunglasses. The eyeglasses were a total departure from my usual; I thought i wanted to try making more of a statement. After wearing them for 3 or 4 months I decided I just really didn't like them. Thought that I had given them a fair shot in "just getting used to them." So i went back in and asked if the 1 yr. warranty that came with them applied to simply not liking them or if they had to be broken. (I guess I could have run over them with my car, but I decided to try the honest approach.) Her first comment was that they don't usually replace glasses after the initial 30 days and wanted to know why i hadn't come back sooner? Well, not only would that have been during the Christmas holidays (who has time for glasses?) I was still hoping I'd get used to them. She started poking around on the computer, presumably looking up my records. i asked if there was anything she could do for me. She said she could give me new frames and I would have to pay $25 for new lenses. Hey. Seemed fair to me -- I said sure -- help me find some frames! And we did! And I love my new glasses -- much more "me" than the others. When we were all done and I had selected them, she then said she would waive the $25 charge and I got a brand new pair of glasses as an even exchange!
