I dread going to the optician's office because I have a complicated vision situation. I dread it so much that I do not go anywhere near as often as should. More often than not, I have had bad experiences with opticians who do not listen to or understand my vision issues and/or they fail to engender my confidence in their competence. And, compounding the dread, I always feel like I'm being scammed or bait and switched as I usually have to fight off upsell after upsell. Not so with Dr. Sharon Freeman. My appointment started on time. She listened, she understood, she tested, she answered questions, she explained things patiently and logically, she seemed well informed, she did not judge my bad habits and in the end, she worked with me and dramatically improved my vision situation. She gave me a pair of sample lenses (no charge) to wear out the door and handed me a written prescription. I paid the reasonable bill, and no one tried to sell me a pair of $300 eyeglass frames that I did not need or want. I had written this long, really glowing review when I hit some frigging wrong button and sent it into hyper space. But let's not let my irritation interfere with a much deserved positive review. You know, so many businesses have become so impersonal these days that it's a very pleasant surprise when you walk in somewhere and actually feel like a friend. Nobody pushes you to buy those frames that make you look like Uncle Larry, nor do they '"ooh' and "ah" when you put on a pair that make you the spitting image of some B level movie star... a week or two after the wake. They're refreshingly honest while being kind enough to avoid any long rage damage to the ego. Though not a particularly large store, For Eyes has managed to pack in a truly extraordinary range of shapes, colors and designs. Look closely. Too quick a walk past the shelves and you'll miss why this place really is unique. This is a very good place to buy eyewear. The staff members I worked with recently (primarily Sarah and Pooja) are well-trained, professional and accommodating. I found that my first set of progressive lens glasses were not working correctly for me. Sarah was very patient in determining the cause and remedy. The latter involved switching to a different frame and lens type as well, and these work quite well. There was never any question about returning the first pair or any sort of added charges whatsoever. The store itself is spacious and well-lighted, easy to walk into to browse frames, etc. read more

Spacious store with large selection of frames. Convenient extended hours and easy to make eye exam appointments. One big negative: Avoid the Store Manager Shahla M. who is unpleasant and insensitive to the customer. She interrupted and disrupted the finalization of a 4 eyeglass purchase that we almost walked out of our 2 hour and $2k purchase. So work with the other nice staff like Pooja and Juan who were very knowledgeable, helpful and patient. yesterday my boyfriend and i went in trying to find him glasses... (we've been to many stores over the past 2mos, we'd actually been here already but we decided to give it another shot). the coolest thing is, he actually found glasses he liked enough to buy, two pairs even! Dr. Freeman is great, I really like her. She does very careful and thorough exams. She is also very personable and funny. Dr. Freeman is great, very good customer service and a comfortable environment, and they have a good selection of eyewear at reasonable prices. My contact lenses cost about as much as they would online at a 'discount' service. Good job. Edit: Dr. Freeman detected a narrowing of my husband's irises, a condition known as plateau iris, and referred him to a specialist. Thankfully this was treated right away, as left untreated it can lead to eventual blindness. I want to emphasize that Dr. Freeman is a professional, and that this is not just a cheap place to get glasses. She is very thorough, and the specialist even commented that she did a very good job recognizing this condition and referring my husband immediately for treatment. Let's start at the beginning: 1) Had an eye exam and received prescription and trial contacts. One eye prescription was off so I had to go back for re-evaluation. Prescription changed for that eye. 2) I bought four pairs of new glass from first exam. After second exam they didn't change my initial order. Week later glasses came in and of course the prescription was off. Now they enter the new prescription and send back for changes. 3) new glasses in, now about 5 weeks after initial appointment. Mind you there was only 4 days between initial exam and second exam. 4) New glasses no good!! Totally wrong lens! Can't see anything unless I look straight ahead through glasses! Any vision in any other direction is blurry!! 5) now waiting in store for someone to help me, takes about 35 mins waiting. All the while I hear another woman complain about her prescription and the lady helping is telling her she can't help because she sees no issue with the glasses. I've been wearing glasses since I was nine years old. Over the years I've done the cheap thing and the designer as well. I got my first pair of glasses at For Eyes a couple of months ago and Dr. Freeman was GREAT, thorough and professional. Customer service was wonderful, the first prgressives I got were not quite right, they had them re-done immediately and that pair was the easiest set I've ever had to adjust to. I sent my daughter there next and Dr. Freeman diagnosed an astigmatism and the subesquent glasses made her headaches go away. Great place for service and value. read more

My experience ordering contacts here, was surprisingly simple! I first walked in while strolling through the shops and the woman behind counter was warm & friendly. She quickly found me under my new insurance and let me know how much my insurance allowed for contacts, etc. A few days later, I called and spoke to Juan who was very helpful and put in the order for me. Less than a week later (during busy holidays) I got a call that my order arrived. This place is terrible. Absolutely awful customer service. I had a set of progressive glasses done (Nike frames, total cost around $400). They did not come out how I wanted - and consequently, I was not using them. I asked for them to be redone so they would be useful and they told me they would not do it unless I paid, AGAIN. I know it is common practice in this industry that if something is not done to the customer's satisfaction, they get it right. Unbelievable.. I have been going to For Eyes to see Dr. Freeman for ump-teen years now. She is excellent! I always get an appointment quickly and hardly ever have to wait when I go in. The staff is always very helpful. I recently had to order some special contacts and there was an issue with the fax number they were sending my prescription confirmation to. I need these contacts ASAP and they jumped through hoops to make it happen and get the confirmation to the vendor. I agree with the negative reviews about a rude clerk. I had been trading there for 6 years and was aware of the rude clerk on my first visit, but I stayed in my bubble and avoided her all the time. However, I did have an altercation with her about two years ago in spite of my efforts to avoid her. I walked out then and have never returned and never will. They lost a good customer. Maybe I'll try the Wash St, SF, place soon. In my opinion this rude clerk must be a manager or owner cause I don't know how she can be tolerated unless she had a lot of personal clout. She really is an intolerable piece of work. That said, the prices and quality of the glasses and lenses are good. Just avoid the rude one, which I did for six years, but she is a hoverer and is looking to pick a fight whenever she can. read more

Very disappointed with the quality of my new glasses and service. They had advertised a 10-14 day fabrication period, one pair of glasses was delayed (received after three weeks from their Florida laboratory). The quality and craftsmanship of the glasses is poor, with sharp edges showing (not polished as promised), making the lenses appear thicker. When I brought this observation forward, the manager refused to come forward to offer a solution (despite their so-called "100% satisfaction guaranteed" claim). Stay away. read more

I'm price sensitive (read: cheap). So I tend to go to places where I find reasonable prices.. Although if you want to look good, remember that your glasses frame your eyes, which are first things people see when they look at you. You could go to Costco, but their inexpensive frames are old fashioned (read: dorky), and service is indifferent, and the frames you want aren't cheap either. Other boutique-y places I've been to in the past seem intent on selling you upgrades to lenses, coatings, special shatter proofing, etc... that drive the cost sky high!! For Eyes in Corte Madera is that right blend of excellent service, reasonable prices, and a great selection. I've gotten compliments on my frames and the optometrist really listened to what i wanted and did a VERY thorough check on my vision. Kudos! read more

Update (Corte Madera location): My initial purchase was just for the lenses as I brought in my own frame. (For Eyes is one of the few optical stores that do not charge an extra fee if you don't purchase the frames from them.) Unfortunately, my frames proved very difficult to adjust as they were a hard plastic.The next pair of frames stretched out on a weekly basis. I went back today explaining the issue I was having; the manager Shahla (who I misnamed "Michelle" in my original review), and the very experienced optician Bruce were lovely in handling my situation. They went above and beyond by expertly and tastefully providing me with choices of frames tailored to me. In addition, they worked out an exchange exception for me. Very pleased!!! read more

Have been going to them for years. Only recently did I have a less than perfect experience with them. In the past they have adjusted or quick fixed frames that weren't theirs. Recently, the bi-focals were ground wrong; staff tried to convince me it was the frame's adjustment. Finally the manager made things right. read more

I have been getting glasses here for a while--the 2 for $99 bargain. They don't have a great selection for men, but . . . the last time I went the attendant let me get so frames that weren't in the "cheap" section. But I'm giving a good yelp review because the owner went out of her way to be helpful. Once I received my glasses it became clear that my prescription for reading glasses had me holding the book too close for comfort. They let me change the prescription and reorder the glasses for free. Made a tremendous difference. I'd give them five stars, but they talked me into getting anti-glare--it was pricey and not worth the cost. I've been wearing eyeglasses and contacts for more than half of my life :( I used to go to Lenscrafters but all of my favorite people stopped working there. As I was walking to Crate and Barrel, I noticed a familiar face in the window, it was my favorite eyeglass technician, Shala, from Lenscrafters! She was the main reason I stopped going to Lenscrafters, I didn't know where she had gone to. She was always so patient with me and so helpful whenever I was being indecisive. She introduced me to the other technician, Larry, who was nice and professional. I decided to finally pick out a new pair of glasses. I picked up a few of them and both Shala and Larry helped me narrow my choice down to a great pair of Pradas. Yes, they have Prada, Chanel and a bunch of other fancy designers at great prices (Dangerous!!). Unlike other eye glass places, they didn't oversell me and I received my new glasses quite quickly. When I went to pick them up the manager helped me and I have to say I was impressed she was so hands on. read more

I have been going to For Eyes for many years, and have purchased all my eyeglasses here. I mostly have been working with Lisa, who is beyond wonderful, helpful, talented, and always friendly. She has a great eye for fitting you with the right kind of frame, and is always willing to make sure they fit properly , at the time of pick up, and long after, if adjustments are needed. I have also been assisted by other salespeople , if Lisa was not available, and have never been disappointed. I really recommend For Eyes. Dr. Sharon Freeman did a very thorough eye exam. Better than I have received at Kaiser. I like her very much she is thorough, unhurried, and pleasant to talk to. And you can't beat the price for such a good exam. I was able to peruse the frames at my leisure, taking as much time as I wanted. At one point one of the associates commented on a frame I would not usually seriously consider, but I ended up getting it and I am very pleased. As with all reviews, there are always some that are unhappy. But I highly recommend giving these folks and Dr. Freeman a try. I will definitely return! read more

Very unhappy with For Eyes. Ordered contact lenses there after an examination by Dr. Freeman. The wrong lenses were there when my daughter picked them up, so I asked them to order the correct lenses and let me come in and exchange them. No, I was told by some supervisor, I had to first come in and return the wrong lenses, then they would order the correct lenses, and I could come in again and pick them up. Terrible customer service. I believe in buying locally but I can get the same lenses for less at Costco. And I will. Fantastic place to get your glasses made. I went in looking to get new prescription lenses put in my old frames. Bruce, the owner told me about a 2 for 1 frame sale that was going on. So I looked around and found a great pair of Ray Bans with blue tinted gradated lenses. I liked them a lot so decided to get them for my sunglasses rx. For my free frame pair, I liked these frames so much that I got an identical pair to use indoors. Bruce was extremely helpful about the options I could have with my lenses. For the first ever time I got them with the yellow tint that reduces computer glare issues (FABULOUS!!!), and they also get darker when I'm outside. These lenses are paper thin and the glasses weight almost nothing. They are the best feeling frames ever on the bridge of my nose. The prescriptions came out 100% perfect (the first ever time I have had such an easy time seeing). Bruce is really great to work with. My out the door cost for both these glasses, with all the bells and whistles lenses was VERY reasonable. They have my business for life! read more

When I turned 45 and needed glasses for the first time in my life, I was referred to Dr. Freeman by my father who is an M.D. and said she's the best around. And indeed she is. It's a subtle, "barely there" progressive prescription and it's absolutely perfect for what I needed. The optician assistants are very nice and great at their job. One of them picked out a pair of D&G frames and said "these are perfect for you." And they were and still are. Someone told me I look better with them on than without. I have not found any frames like that since. She even gave me a discount. I know this is a chain but the For Eyes at Town Center feels very personable. Everyone is friendly and great at their job. My God - I came here to write a bad review because of the terrible customer service I received on 12/18/12 - and thought I might even call the store manager/owner b/c if I had such a terrible employee, I'd want someone to tell me - but from the reviews here, it looks like she has been working here for YEARS! clearly, whoever runs this store doesn't care. I came in about 30 mins before closing, hoping to quickly buy some glasses (I wasn't browsing, I came in to spend) but the sales clerk just sat there talking with two other women. she asked if she could book an eye exam for me, but when I told her I didn't need one, she ignored me after that. I've been glasses shopping in many stores throughout the city, Marin and the east bay and this is the WORST service I have ever gotten. I was referred to Dr. Sharon Freeman and heard good things about her skillset. My first visit was in May, 2017, but I waited till mid-November to write my review. After initial eye exam, several weeks went by and I felt my vision was changing. I brought this concern to Dr. Freeman and called her shortly before business opening one morning in July. She was concerned and even though I did not have an appointment, I was to come over and she would fit me in her schedule. My vision did change and while I had a separate appointment with an ophthalmologist, Dr. Freeman faxed her findings to the eye surgeon and with her help, I was seen by the eye surgeon sooner due to a cancellation. Currently, I am scheduled for eye surgery the end of November, but thanks to Dr. Freeman and her willingness to help me out deserves a 6th Star. read more

I've purchased glasses at this For Eyes store since 2006, when I moved to Marin County. I don't live in Marin County anymore (I live in Richmond), but it's worth the drive over the bridge to go to this location. Dr. Freeman is a very good optometrist, very careful and very thorough. As for the glasses themselves, I've received nothing but good service and good quality glasses at this location. I'm very picky and need complicated progressive lenses, so an optician that wants to work with me is a great find. Recently, I needed to get new glasses (my prescription had changed slightly and eventually even the best scratch protection, well, scratches). I didn't like most of the selection of new frames and was about to just settle when, on a hunch, the saleswoman, whose name is Shahla, went into the back of the store and found two frames which had been discontinued but were the perfect style for me. Not only that, the prices of these frames were reasonable. Because my lenses are so expensive, Shahla went out of her way to use every discount she could and went to the trouble of writing up each sale separately so I could use my dental insurance for one pair, and my AARP discounts for the other. Between the eye exam, selecting the glasses and writing up the order, I was in the store for almost two hours yet no one every made me feel like I was taking too long or ever tried to rush me. I don't normally write reviews but I wanted to give shout out to Dr. Sharon Freeman. She thought I might have a type of Glaucoma called narrow angle and sent me to a specialist. She also saw some difference with my optic nerve. Although my angle was ok, the doc said she was right on in her observations and did the right thing.
