Two excellent professional encounters with WINK recently: 1. dropped in with an older pair of frames that needed repair. Staff was polite professional and engaged with giving me a cost estimate and time frame for the repair: A send out which only took 2 days and cost $80 A few days earlier I had checked in with the store in SF I actually bought them from.Sadly, they were not engaged were stand off ish and told me at least 2 weeks and more than 100 bucks as an estimate.. Looks like I will not need to go back to SF any more. 2. Had a comprehensive general eye exam with Dr. Nina Margolis- High level of personalization explanations of testing and findings. This place is the best! We buy all our glasses here. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly Quinn is our favorite she will help pick out the best style for your face and she always "fixes" our glasses when ever we need it. One time we bought a pair glasses and had to have them fixed about once a week because our four-year-old was so hard on them. He is now ten and we are down to fixing them about once a month. All the staff is wonderful and know us well, even though I have crazy boys and a dog with me most of the time I go into the store they still have smiles on their faces when they see us! My husband and mother-in-law also buy their glasses here. Quinn gives us a good family rate and is super fair with her prices and service. It may be a little more then lens crafters but the service you get with your purchase is worth the 5% more in price. I recommend this place to anyone, any age for all your glasses needs. read more

Have you ever been happily eating hamburger then tasted filet mignon and realized you can never go back to happily eating hamburger? Wink Optics is the equivalent. Even though Consumer Reports rates Costco as one of the best values for RX eyeglass purchases and even though Costco carries some designer-ish eyeglass brands I've always yearned to purchase glasses not branded inside with "Costco Optical". I'm not a snob; I just always wanted a pair of truly high-quality RX eyeglasses. They have a lux finish and weight to them that just doesn't exist in the stock at Costco. Wink Optics is a bit deceiving because they don't appear to have a huge selection of the kind of eyeglasses I was craving. But too large of an eyeglass selection can be too many to choose from and even with their more limited selection I found myself having difficulty whittling down enough to make a purchase. A smart optician is what makes all the difference and owner, Qunyh, is that. When I questioned how I was ever going to make a decision she promised to whittle it down to her recommendations which truly did make it an easier task. If left solely to my own devices I'd still be there, waffling. All told, for straight up RX eyeglasses (non-progressives) my new Alain Mikli RX eyeglasses ran a bit over $800 (ouch) which is my one and only complaint about Wink Optics. That said, I couldn't have purchased such a beautiful pair of glasses elsewhere for any less or with better service. As I fondle the high quality, heavy, soft finish of these new frames I know only one thing: Hamburger is sometimes okay but I'll never grow tired of filet mignon. read more

I paid a lot of money for my lenses as well as my frames. The ladies that run the company are lovely. But my frames have held up well but my lenses have been the biggest pieces of junk I've ever had in 30 years of wearing glasses. And I paid a lot of money for these lenses and I don't wear them that much but they are constantly scratched they have been from day one. I only wear them at night for driving or maybe watching a movie. I just can't believe I paid so much money for such lousy glasses. This is an addendum to my previous review. Frank, the owner of Wink Optics got in touch with me shortly after my initial post above. I am quite thrilled to report that he has gone above and beyond to replace my lenses, at no cost, and in a very expedient manner. He came to my house, picked them up and returned them to me, within 3 days. This type of customer service is something I have not experienced before. Excellent service and always very helpful. I went to Wink to have progressive lenses installed as prescribed by my Dr. but they made me dizzy and wasn't able to transition successfully. So I had new lenses replaced with lenses for reading only. And there was no extra charge. I LOVE Wink! My first visit was fantastic. I met Quiyn (sorry if I spelled her name wrong!) and Dr. Lin. Both ladies are personable and professional which i thought was unique in the field. Dr. Lin made me really comfortable by explaining what she was doing before she proceeded with each part of the exam. She actually took the time to chat with me about my activities to make sure I was getting the correct pair of contact lenses. Quiyn was great too! She encouraged me to pick out frames and then pulled a bunch of frames for me to try on too. I found this to be really helpful because I can never tell what looks good on my face haha! The office is actually very inviting. None of that "wow I'm pretty sure this wall paper hasn't been changed since 1978" stuff that you usually find at eye doctors. Overall, excellent experience! I had been to several other places without success, and within minutes Peter had picked out a few eyeglass frames that I immediately loved and helped guide me toward choosing the right frame without being pushy at all. My wife, who had been in the market for sunglasses for months without success, also found a frame she loved right away. After purchasing, Peter and Lindsey kept in close contact over email to let me know how things were progressing, and the glasses were ready a day ahead of an already rapid schedule. UPDATE: if I could, I would give 6 stars. I purchased my pair of Starck Eyewear four, that's right, four years ago. Two weeks ago they broke and were rendered unwearable. Quynh and Kaeley took such good care of me. They sent me a photograph of a pair to replace my original eyeglasses. And followed through with numerous emails without delay. Came into Wink because they were a preferred provider with my insurance. They are in downtown Mill Valley, and the truth is that I was a bit reluctant to come see them because of that. (I grew up in Mill Valley and the whole downtown scene can be a little pretentious...) Then I looked on Yelp and saw that they have 5 stars, which is rare on Yelp! Dr. Lin was fabulous! She took the time to talk to me, didn't rush me through like I was a number, and really made me feel comfortable (this was my first time getting an eye exam so that was really helpful). The other folks working in the office were great too, and went out of their way to accommodate my sort of tight schedule. Then, they were extra patient and helpful as I picked out frames. (And I took a long time). After, Dr. Lin sent me an email (same day) to thank me for coming in and letting me know that she's my doctor now. Which was sweet and I totally feel that way! All in all - Wink is great and Dr. Lin is wonderful. I would TOTALLY recommend this place. Frames are pricey but hey, it's your face. read more

I went in here for an eye exam and contact lens fitting, and had an excellent experience. Both the doctor and the staff person were friendly, helpful, and extremely accomodating with sorting out my insurance. The doctor responded with clarity and knowledge to all of my questions, and the staff person was very excited to help me pick out frames. The optometry portion of this business is new, so they are still working out their systems with handling insurance. My one suggestion to customers is to have the staff thouroughly research your insurance plan beforehand, so that you know exactly what you'll be paying (ex, eye exam is separate service from contact lens fitting). This place is wonderful. The staff is not only extremely friendly but also very helpful. Everyone at this tiny place is very efficient and do what they do extremely well. They really take the time to get to know you on top of doing an outstanding eye examination. The eye exam was actually the most thorough eye exam I've ever had from an optometrist. Dr. Lin was very fast (but thorough), she knows what she's doing. They have an excellent variety of frames, from cool and modern, to funky and artsy. So far so good. My experience with Wink right now has been two visits. The first time I visited was just to walk in and shop for sunglasses and they have a good classy selection of frames. Later, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Lin to update my prescription. I've been wearing glasses all my life so I have been through most kinds of eye exams, yet Dr. Lin's methods were new to me and seemingly more thorough than I have had before. She took time to get to know me and how I use my eyes at work and play. However, when I returned later in the day as requested (after reshuffling my schedule) I was rudely treated and turned away. I then went to Rims & Goggles nearby who gladly helped with the repair - and it only took 5 minutes!. Dr. Lin corrected another eye doctor's error in my Rx, which was immensely helpful, I can see now! My fiancee and I go to Wink now for annual exams (switched from a Dr. I had seen for over 20yrs) also frames, and lenses.
