As clients of Michael Quinn Opticians in Mill Valley for the past 18 years we are here to say that in all that time we have never once noticed any negative behavior by any of the staff. We have purchased approximately 40 pairs of glasses from them and also have sent many of our friends there, all of whom have been more than happy with the service they received. Believe me if they weren't happy we certainly would have heard about it. We don't know where the "Mad Pianist" is coming from, although it does seem strange he won't use his real name. Mr. Quinn in our opinion is an absolute artist in his ability to select the perfect pair of glasses for us each time we visit his store, even if it's only for an adjustment he greets us with genuine kindness and attention. The two women running this store were lovely to work with, completely professional, and kept giving me "deals" without asking - she took 25% off my frames instead of my insurance coverage of 20%, threw out the charge for the optical exam, and gave me a free visor eyeglass clip when I expressed interest in it. My wife and I wandered in to Wink Optics during a day trip to Mill Valley. I needed a pair of nice eyeglasses, and was having trouble finding the types of frames I want. From beginning to end, the staff at Wink Optics was great. I purchased a pair of frames and lenses from them which I love and receive compliments on all the time. I even had to get one of the lenses replaced, thanks to an inept optometrist in San Mateo, and they were done quickly. In fact, I ordered the first time the week before Thanksgiving, and they rushed my order so I would have time in time for the long weekend. The things that make Wink stand out are the subtle but welcome touches, for example, every time I went in (about 4 times total), one of the employees would see my sunglasses on top of my head and say, "Would you like me to clean your Maui JIms for you?" And they would take them, clean them, and give them back--every time I visited. These are the types of going-the-extra-mile gestures that aren't invasive and don't feel contrived. I really liked this place! I have been using glasses since I was a teenager. But I went there for my son. He was complaining of "blurry vision". I was extremely impressed with Dr. Lin and how well she knows kids. Even when he would read the letters all wrong and I could not understand why because he knows all the letters, she would look at me and whisper: "it looks like a lower case a", or something like that... the questions she asked, very pertinent. Rick at the desk is very efficient. something you don't see very often. he really knows his job. The glasses he picked for my son was just perfect for his face and life style. LOVE Wink!!! I've had Kaiser my whole life and recently got my first pair of contact lenses. After being essentially afraid to ask the Optometrist at Kaiser anything (she was very impatient!) I asked around for suggestions for a second opinion. Lo and behold, Wink popped up, so I went. Dr. Lin helped me with whatever questions I had about my dry eyes and made me feel so much better about what I was experiencing and even discovered I had eye allergies which were making my Toric lenses shift. My eyes are getting more and more used to lenses and the drops are helping with the focus and I couldn't have felt more comfortable with my decision to stop by. This is the BEST Optical shop for all the moms who have small children wear glasses. Our little girl started to wear glasses since she was 2 and half. It was frustrating to find glasses that fits her well and it is heartbreaking to see her being uncomfortable with her glasses all the time. I will just come out and say it... I am cheap. With all item with the exception of great food. So in turn, I never waste my time doing any real shopping in downtown Mill Valley. But if I am strolling with an ice cream cone from Baskin Robbins in hand I may window shop in the area. There was a very expensive optician tucked away on throckmorton that I never bother walking into due to annoyed sales people, poor layout and astronomical prices. Well I am happy to have experienced the change that has come to this business. New owners, newly remodeled, beautifully decorated and incredibly helpful friendly staff. Sure there were still mainly items way out of my price range, but now there was enough variety that I found 2 pairs of sunglasses that I could buy and still make my car payments this month. They even fixed the sunglasses I came in with! I could not be happier to have a business with such great customer service in Mill Valley. I hope more follow suite. I almost never write reviews, so my experience has to have been truly exceptional to inspire a review. Call me inspired!!! read more

The staff at Wink couldn't be more helpful or friendly. The eyeglass selection is the best I've seen. And the staff sent me away with a beautiful pair of glasses. I can't imagine going elsewhere. Booked an appointment for Dr. Lin. When I arrived I was given an appointment with Dr. Fulck/Fulch (not sure of spelling). No one explained why. Exam was quick and felt like I was being sold new lenses/glasses. When asked what old prescription was with other provider, I was told the new prescription was a little different. When I went to pick my new glasses up, I was simply handed them. I tried them on and checked the reading clarity. No one checked the fit of glasses. I felt like the service was half-ass, won't be going back and won't recommend! read more

I had the most impressive experience at Wink optics. I had bought a pair of designer sunglasses with the idea of having the lenses substituted with progressive lenses so that I can read outside in the summer. Unfortunately, the glasses I bought did not allow for lens substitution, apparently they lacked a screw or a mechanism that allowed that. I went to my regular optician in Santa Rosa, and the answer I got was that there was no way for me to have the progressive lenses inserted. After that I went to three more stores in Santa Rosa, all had the same verdict. There was no way that my lenses could be substituted because the glasses were not conceived to have replaceable lenses. Just because I am very persistent, I drove down to Marin County and went to another optician who, again, told me no way. It was very hard for me to accept this, I mean in a world where people do liver or heart transplants and all sort of technological miracles, how can it be impossible to remove a pair of lenses from a pair of expensive sunglasses and put new ones in. So I walked into Wink optics with the idea of checking if they had nice sunglasses. I had already decided to return mine, I pulled out my sunglasses to see how different they were from the ones I was looking at in the store, when Quynh asked me what glasses they were, and so I explained her my entire story. She immediately said 'of course we can put progressive lenses in, I did it before, don't you worry'. I told her of my experience and she said 'not all opticians are created equal'. Four days later she texted me a picture of my sunglasses with the new lenses, they were ready for pick up. WOW, what does that say about customer focus, customer service, and winning attitude. I'm a prescription eyeglass "newbie" & Dr. Lin was great! Efficient, professional and personable. I have VSP insurance (which Wink accepts) the paperwork was easy-peasy and I thought the frame choices were fantastic. I also bought a pair of sunglasses (non prescription) and scored a 30% discount because of my VSP membership. The store is lovely - and what better setting than downtown Mill Valley? New patient and thanks to Yelp, I found a new home for my eye care! Dr. Lin and her team are an amazing group. I had a concern with dry eyes and burning due to heavy computer use. Dr. Lin was super friendly and very thorough in addressing my concerns. Of course, now that I am turning 40, my right eye needed a slight prescription. Her staff assisted me in finding a chic pair of frames (which they have a fab selection), and thanks to my hubby's VSP plan, I received a wonderful discount! It was great to discover this gem of a business right in my home town! The exam was as thorough as I ever remember and the detailed explanation provided me the knowledge to make an informed decision. My insurance was cleared before I even got there. After selecting frames for reading and sunglasses there followed a detailed question and answer session that really fine-tuned my needs and what were the right choices for me. These guys really go the extra mile to make sure that everything goes smoothly. First, I was needing contacts and my prescription had expired, and Dr. Lin squeezed me in to make sure I could get them ordered quickly. Secondly, I called them up needing to order more, as I had lost one of my last ones. Without any hesitation, they gave me two trial lenses while my shipment was sent out.
