Changing my review to one star, from 5 star.
The order was initially placed 5/26/20. Almost 4 months later to the day, I'm finally done. That is not to say everything is fine, I'm just done with FOR.
We ordered a comprehensive project through FOR - vent resealing, duct straightening, and replacement of some windows that were older and not energy efficient.
The first half of the project went well - the attic/duct work. No complaints. The windows understandably took several weeks longer. Once the duct work was completed, the salesman came back to review the improvements and all of the work that was done. He asked me to write a 5 star review in front of him, which I did since up to that point everything was good, and he wanted me to provide references on the spot that they could follow up and contact. Sales tactic, fine, but the request didn't sit well. Still, nothing happened that would have prompted an unfavorable review.
The windows are where things went south. Keep in mind, FOR was among the most expensive bids we received, but we were sold on their presentation.
- FOR did the original measuring of the windows. Everything was fine. Subcontractor for the windows had to come out and validate the measurement. It turns out FOR missed one (fine) window that was attached to another (to be replaced) window - which couldn't be replaced without doing both. I advised at that time to cancel the order, since I didn't want to add extra windows to a project that was already over budget. FOR agreed to cover the cost of the extra window that now had to be replaced (a small window) to save the overall order. Great.
- When the subcontractor arrived to do the work, several weeks after the initial measuring, they started to take down and destroy the new window shade coverings. I stopped them just in time, and they said the shade coverings would void the warranty of the window, so they were just taking them down and breaking them up. These shade coverings were only a couple of months old. I called FOR, and spoke with my salesman. He defended the removal of the window shades saying at the initial consultation he advised "we wouldn't need the shade coverings", which we accepted meaning the new windows would block the light themselves (but we still liked the privacy that the shades offered). They never said we weren't able to use the shade coverings because it would void the warranty.
- The smaller window they agreed to replace didn't have the same internal glass framing that the original had. So they had to re-order the window. Another appointment would be required.
- Several weeks later, they came to replace the glass, and had the wrong size window. Another appointment would be required.
- Several weeks after that, they came to replace the glass with the right size, and left this unsightly rubber piece at the bottom of the glass, part of the metal framing that attaches to the glass. I refuse to have another appointment for them to come back and fix. I'll just give it some time and then hire another company to come and clean up FOR's mess.
I will say Christine, the office manager, was very kind and did her best to manage all of the failures of the company.
I get that some of these concerns were because of the subcontractor, but ultimately my contract was with FOR, and they are responsible.
There was never a call from a higher up to apologize, no offer of even a small credit for the hassle (on a several thousand dollar order), just 4 months of headaches and hassle.
I regret choosing FOR for this project. read more
