He's been in the business for a long time and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to troubleshooting! I'm pretty handy and do all my pool maintenance/repairs myself, but this time I was stumped. You sent me that to an old email address? Not the email address you send my bill to. No note on the door. Nothing. Supposedly my gate has been locked a few times. Well I have an 11 year old who goes in and out so I understand that. But I work from home. Hmmmmm. Supposedly he knocked quietly on my door. Maybe put a note in it. I talked to Damien today and suggested That if there was a problem that maybe they should call me. His response was "Well we operate under the assumption the gate will be open,". Absolutely disgusting. Then refused to refund my payment for service that I obviously have not been getting due to my locked gate. And in response to your email below. Longtime customers of this company, but I just redid my pool and that comes with a service plan, so I'm sad to see Damien no longer part of our pool care. They were always prompt and efficient, and i never had to worry about my pool, they took care of everything quickly, efficiently, and with prompt and adequate communication. The only advice I have, Damien, is for you. You're great, man, and you're a fellow vet, so I get your need to close out communications with a resolution. However, you can't let these One-Star Steves get you sounding argumentative and defensive on social media (which, sadly, is kind of what yelp is turning out to be). We were having issues with an old sand filter and had Damien out to diagnose the problem. We knew the equipment was near the end of its life and ultimately decided to replace it with a cartridge filter and variable speed pump. Damien never tried to sell us anything we didn't need and the price we paid was very fair. Damien has provided excellent service for many YEARS... but sadly today I was treated like a nobody. I had to take a small break from service, just a few months, because of my financial situation as a result of covid. I let them know that I would resume service in Late April/early May. I called to resume and was told that I am now like a new customer. They are too busy and that I my service cannot be resumed. That is great that they are busy, one can never complain when business is good.... but it was the way that the office staff handled the call. Very poor customer service in my opinion. I felt no value from them as a client. They were just so matter of fact, and it felt like they were basically saying, "sorry, you're SOL." I was just was taken aback by the attitude, kinda of like, " you snooze, you loose apparently. 8+ years of service, and I got booted with no remorse. I know this is weird, but it was hurtful. I'm genuinely glad that business is good for them, but MY business didn't seem to matter. Had it been communicated with a little more concern, instead of basically telling me that I am now a "New" customer, I'd think it would have been fine... You don't provide service a client for years and years and then treat them like their brand new and send them to the back of the line... Anyway, the "you're SOL" approach was very disappointing. I know that Damien cares about his clients and he runs an excellent pool company, but his staff could use some sensitivity training to communicate in a way that makes clients feel valued, not put out to pasture. Foothills Pool Care and Repair are the best! They are fast, professional, and communication is clear. They always notify me in advance when anything extra is needed and notice things that I would never have seen. They don't push for services that I don't need. For example, when my vacuum cleaner broke, they offered to repair it at a much lower cost than buying a new one and it's been working great ever since (2 years ago!). When we couldn't find my flush-out valves, they recommended someone they had never worked with (their usual contractor was nowhere to be found), and then called me to see if I had been happy with his service and could they continue working with him. There are no hidden surprises or anything fishy (no pun intended!). They care for their customers, obviously know their job and do it very well. When I called in I was rudely told that they don't come out 'that far'. I'm in South Phoenix near the 10/60 interchange. Apologizing for the mixup would've gone a long way rather than being rude and offering nothing more. He is professional, proficient, efficient, thorough and treats our pool as his own. Our pool is 26 years old with the original DE filter as well as pebbletec and is continually maintained with chems, skimmed , brushed, backwashed and baskets emptied, all detailed with a weekly report (emailed.) There is good communication from the office of any changes and we can always rely on James to be here on his scheduled day, ready to get to work. I have several "issues" with my pool and have mostly tried to be a "do-it-yourselfer". My cleaner/vacuum stopped functioning and have created a loooong list of items that need to be fixed before swimming season officially kicks-off. I called their number and Damien not only answered in a few rings... he and his assistant followed-up to confirm when the best time would be for them to come see what needed to be done. Damien showed-up and is VERY knowledgeable about pools... from how they work and what it takes to make them function and look good. He is also a good business man; He sensed that I was concerned about my budget (unplanned) and wanted to fix the immediate issues first then start attacking the other items as needed. Terrible service, pool was unkept and nasty. I would stay away from these people. I had sample verified by someone else bought two different types of strips and they all showed the same thing. All items we way low and out of tolerance. Pool smelled like acid, after dumping the water you could see tons of bacteria and floating substance in water left towards the bottom. Unfortunately, we didn't have any good experience with this company at all, they supposed to come weekly to check and test and ensure everything is good. Over the 3 months only seen them once (and we are working from home so unlikely that we will miss them if they actually come), when questioned them, they sent the "pictures" of our pool that were supposedly been taken "every week" when they claimed that they come and check on it. Ended up we drain all water which so smelly and not usable and ended up cleaned the whole thing. Get the water checked and every makers whatever that supposed to be tested and well kept were off the chart. And hired another company to fixed all this. They even declined and demanded for us to pay for monthly service which is horrible. Maintenance should be to prevent all this bad thing but ended up turn out we have to pay for bad maintenance and ended up pay for another company to fix for bad performance. read more

Had some pool tile come up and needed to get it repaired. Response time to get someone out was fairly quick, within a day or 2. The owner, Damian, came out himself and assured me they could get this repaired and also talked about getting my pool lights upgraded. Damian was great, but the rest of his company, namely Sarah, fell way short of the expectation that he set. It took another 2 weeks for someone to come out and measure my lights to see if what they had at the shop would work. From there I continued to call to get a quote for the lights and schedule a time for the repairs. After continually calling to find out the status I was finally told that my lights weren't ordered yet and they were waiting for SR Smith to call them since they are only open on Tuesday and Thursday because of the virus. I had a feeling Sarah was being dishonest so I called SR Smith up and they said they are open 5 days a week. From there I called another company who came out the same day and was able to order my lights within 2 hours. Maybe I wasn't high on the priority list because I don't get my pool serviced by Foothills Pool Care, but I cannot recommend this company if you are looking to get a timely pool repair. read more

We had another pool company when we moved into the house and it seems like we never received any updates on what was coming up and yearly maintenance that needed to be done. Then when we switched companies I was amazed how much communication foothills pool gives you... From weekly updates through email to a newsletter on upcoming maintenance that is needed and we have had him come out on separate occasions to look and discuss updates For the upcoming year. So we always know what to expect and are never surprised when something needs to be done. Also Damien takes the time to explain and educate me on pool maintenance and how the weather and nearby construction affects what's going on in the pool. We first called when we started having a lot of issues with algae and found out just how old the pool filter was. He explained the benefits between sand and cartridge filters, quoted all of our options, and let us decide which was best. We took his recommendation...they were quick to do the work, install the pump, and get the pool chemistry back on track. We have had a sparkling clean blue pool ever since. These guys are TOP NOTCH! Given the opportunity to squeeze me to the tune of $1200 - $1500 for a new EcoStar pump; or, to replace the drive and motor under the Hayward warranty (3+ years after the pool was completed) Jeff chose to handle my service call as a warranty claim. I was clueless, and thought the warranty had expired. After three days without filtering the pool in 110+ degree heat, I was getting desperate, and had pretty much resigned myself to dropping a lot of cash on new equipment. So.... I was STUNNED when Jeff not only replaced the motor and drive under warranty, but then proceeded to connect and program the Hayward Ecommand unit Paddock installed with the pool (at God only knows what markup) but never bothered to explain to me. Jeff demonstrated that the big metal box with the antenna bolted to my block fence was more than just an elaborate remote for the pool light; and, that it could be used to remotely control, automatically start and stop the pump, heater and even the low-voltage yard lighting. It was like having a whole new pool. Jeff spent hours in the blazing Arizona sun making everything work correctly, then charged me less than $100 for a service call. As a new homeowner, I have come to expect the worst from most contractors and service providers, but Foothills Pool Care really changed my outlook for the better. I can't adequately express how much I appreciate their honesty, hard work and integrity in dealing with me and my pool issues.
