Great restaurant in northeastern part of Pasadena and aptly called The Foothill perhaps because it's on Foothill. Sort of has a bit of a hipster vibe mixed with nice service. The appetizers and entrees absolutely kill it. Love the beef stroganoff and the calamari along with good selection of beers. A little on the expensive end but worth it. I highly recommend. read more

Very good, prompt service. Hubs had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I had a fish taco, a short rib taco and a wedge salad, all from the happy hour menu. Everything was very good. I thought Foothill would be a good choice for a family get together based on its reviews and the menu, but the mediocre service and surprise service charge and automatic 20% tip are why I gave only two stars. We all liked the tempura shrimp and deviled eggs apps. My vegetable tacos were fresh, and others enjoyed the pork entree, pasta dishes and beef tacos. However, service felt rushed. The server got impatient when we were talking and taking our time to look at the menu, since it was our first time there. We ordered drinks, apps, entrees and a couple desserts to share. I was shocked to see on the final bill a 3% service charge added to the total food and liquor bill, and ON TOP OF THAT TOTAL they added a 20% tip, even though there was a note on the menu that there was an automatic tip charge of 20% for parties of 8 or more and we were only 6. I didn't want to make an issue of it, which the server probably knew. I don't recommend Foothill for a relaxing meal, or if you want excellent service. read more

Been coming to this place for awhile but today I noticed a surcharge on my bill. Surcharge...what the?? So it was explained that it's basically a tip for the cooks. What in the it shouldn't be on the bill is going on here??? Every once in a while, I gather enough courage to step out my comfort zone and try new restaurants that I have never been to before. While some attempts have proven disappointing, Foothill definetly falls under the more pleasent category. The joint is located on a not-so-busy commercial street in Pasadena with very convenient parking - but since the majority of the parking lot is now converted into outdoor dining, you have to bring your car around the alley way. As far as I am concerned, their outdoor and indoor seating games are as pleasent as hotel lounges; very clean, very well-prepped. Went there for brunch, my mom ordered avocado toast and I ordered Egg Benedict. Both are satisfyingly delicious. I can't tell what black magic they performed on the avocado toast, but they were some of the savory breakfast dishes I have ever had. Egg Benedict was standard, the hollandise sauce was just a little bit bland, but hats off to whoever came up with the genius idea of seasoning country potato with rosemary and browned onion . Wanted to go somewhere with a reservation for a birthday brunch - so decided to try this place. We arrive a couple minutes before our reservation, - and good thing we did, because parking is impossible. Had to park a few blocks away on a residential street that was packed. When we made it to the restaurant, we checked in at the hostess stand where they weren't very friendly. Waited about 10 minutes for our table with a reservation. Once seated, our waiter was a bit aloof. We ordered waters, diet coke, and the lavender turmeric latte. The waitress said their steamer was broken, so they had to do the latte iced - we said fine. When it come, it tasted sooo strongly like coffee - not at all a tea drink like we had anticipated. Oh well. Ordered the fried chicken and waffles (chicken was dry and waffle was basic. Didn't even come with syrup as stated); the chilaquiles (barely any meat; super soggy tortilla chips); the french toast (also basic, no syrup even); the short rib hash (would not call this a hash - it was a stew); and the short rib quesadilla (the only good thing we ordered). Price was reasonable, but the food wasn't worth it. Will not be coming back. read more

I'm always looking for a good brunch location so when I saw foothill was serving brunch, I knew we had to try it. I was super excited after looking at the menu and was able to use the Google Assistant to make a reservation for 6 of us at 11am on Sunday. When we arrived, I knew that the parking was going to be difficult. Their lot is small but since it's Sunday, street parking was pretty easy. It was super packed inside the restaurant and extremely loud so when I saw a DJ setting up, it felt weird. It just seemed like the restaurant was trying to be something that it's not. There is no need for a DJ at Sunday brunch... Now onto the service... like I said, it was super busy with 2 large parties. Our server was nice but the food was so slow to arrive. My mimosa came in a cocktail glass instead of a champagne glass which isn't a big deal but I could tell they were just running behind on everything. Once the food finally did come, it was just meh. I had the mushroom omelette and the eggs were so overcooked and had no flavor. Thank goodness it had goat cheese as that was the saving grace. The hashbrowns were such thin pieces of potato and had no flavor. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their dishes so I guess I just chose the wrong item but still I was disappointed. My mom had the french toast and we did enjoy the fresh orange zest it was garnished with. Overall, I just didn't have the best experience because it was so loud we couldn't even talk to each other. So, did a search on yelp to find breakfast/brunch spots with outdoor seating and The Foothill came up. I ordered the Cobb salad and my boo ordered the French toast with a hamburger patty. The salad was cool but honestly not worth the $16.00 I paid (I think it was $16.00). I was told that the salad was Romaine lettuce prior to me ordering however it was iceberg. My boo said the French toast was just okay. We also ordered mimosas which had very little alcohol. I wanted to order the fried mushrooms that I saw in hell but unfortunately those are served after 3pm. The brunch menu is very limited. We will visit again, but not for breakfast/brunch. read more

This spot is so cute! Their brunch menu had a lot of great variety, and their mimosas are made perfectly! The outdoor seating area is really nice, and indoor seating was comfortable and decorated beautifully. They seemed a bit understaffed (who isn't though?) so be sure to be extra kind to your waiters! I ordered the OG waffle which was heavenly. The Nutella sauce is a wonderful balance with the fresh fruit and butter. I also ordered an over easy egg on the side and it was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered eggs Benedict and their hollandaise was great, and their seasoning on their potatoes on the side was fantastic! These dishes are well put together, and the environment is clean and friendly. The only negative to this place is that the parking is very limited and can get packed for brunch. read more

I've been to Foothill many times, and usually it is a nice experience. The patio is beautiful, with bougainvillea on the trellises. Tonight, however, the service was inattentive, the music Playlist was awful and too loud (obscure 70's soft rock and disco that was painful to listen to), and there was so much raw garlic on our food that my mouth is still burning from it, despite trying to scrape most of it off. On the other hand, the drinks were wonderful - Gold Rush is always a favorite. read more

I've been going here since they opened for brunch. At first brunch was a pretty quiet affair but then they decided to turn it into a dance party with a DJ and all. The super loud music and the fact that people have to shout to talk to their table mates ruins the experience for me. That being said, the food is decent; they have bottomless (timed) mimosas, which is always nice. The parking, on the other hand, is terrible. They used to take reservations but now they do a waitlist, which is stupid and annoying. They have one tiny bench in the waiting area which is always full of kids who have no manners. We had been going here for breakfast/ lunch for a year or so, but had to stop. We really enjoyed their Short Rib Hash, Eggs Benedict, and Deviled Eggs, but a couple factors made us find a different spot for our earlier weekend meals. First was the inconsistency in the drinks at their bar. In all the times we have gone I have yet to have what I would call a good drink. I have been disappointed in their lack of carrying any top shelf rums like Meyers, Mt. Gay or Appleton. One time I ordered a rum & Coke with Meyers and when the drink arrived it obviously wasn't Meyers. When I asked the waiter he then decided to tell me that they didn't carry Meyers in a sheepish manner as if he had been caught trying to slip one by me. Despite the drink situation we still kept coming until they decided it would be a good idea to have a DJ. The last two times we tried to go as soon as we opened the door and heard the loud music we turned around and left. We haven't been back since. read more

Been meaning to come here and I am so glad I finally made it! Their food AND cocktails are crisp and fresh. You can taste the natural flavor and are going to want more. I've never felt compelled to pause and say "mmmmmmm!" for Caesar's salad and beef stroganoff. They say there's always a first and this will definitely NOT be the last. Coming here is a true treat. The place is nice and quaint and the servers and manager were a pleasure to interact with. It's a happy place! You have to come try it. Truly. WORST hashbrowns of my life. Three out of the five people in my party were served hashbrowns, and none of us ate them. They arrived not just cold but stale. These were inedible. It's safe to say that hashbrowns are in my top 3 favorite foods of all time, and they are a deciding factor in where I choose to dine, particularly for breakfast or brunch.
