I found Foothill Lock & Key through a recommendation on an online automotive forum. I only received one 2015 mazda switchblade style fob with the purchase of a used car. So, I thought they could at least clone the chip and cut a matching key. I was pleasantly surprised when they said they could cut the key and program the fob. They plugged into the car's OBDII port to make this happen. They completed the task on the spot. It was just over $200 out the door in about 15 minutes. That might seem like a lot but compared to the dealership the cost is much less for the parts and labor. If you want to spend a little less ($20) then just go for the generic key for your car that has the plastic top which contains the chip to be programmed to work with your car. I recommend this business for making Mazda OEM copies of car keys and fob. read more

I went to these guys looking for a 2nd key for my 2013 Toyota Camry and first off they are most than half the cost of the dealer and as I did not need a 2nd remote head just a G type key to start the car they had an even more affordable option that was a genuine Toyota key and total process was about 10 minutes in total in and out. I was very impressed with these guys and how quick everything went where various Toyota dealers quoted me over $200.00 just for the remote head key and over $300.00 in labor and over 2 hours to program the key in the service department. I've now had to use Foothill Lock and Key a third time, and my recent experience mirrors my past experiences with them. The process is simple: You call, Nick picks up, and he gets you a locksmith the same day, or at the latest, the next day on a non-emergency visit. Very easy, and always available. This time, Matt came to my place, and at this point I don't care who they send because all their guys have been good. This was during 2020 at the height of COVID-19. Matt had a mask, social distanced, fast and professional. In all my dealings, it's been perfect. Fast service, good work, and acceptable pricing. There is nothing for me to complain about. We had an urgent situation with our front door lock this morning. I spoke to Nick on the phone and he had a guy in the area who was able to come over within about 15 min. Paul was very professional and efficient. He quickly diagnosed and repaired the problem with the lock, showed us the problem, and had us check to make sure everything was working ok afterward. He cut new keys for us and had us try each one and they all worked perfectly. He also gave us tips for maintenance in the future. The people here have been super nice and know their stuff. There was a small mistake in the work they did for me and they did everything they could to make it right. One small criticism: Don't expect to see the staff wearing masks. In my last 5 visits, I only saw masks worn by one person on two occasions. The rest of the staff stayed unmasked, even when there were multiple people behind the counter. They have signs out front sorta promoting vaccines, so it's possible that they're all vaccinated and are just relying on that to be safe. read more

He was nice, checked to make sure it worked first before selling it to me, and then checked that it worked after he replaced it. I was extremely pleased with the service! I came in to get a couple of keys duplicated and one of my keys is an obscure Chinese sliding door key. After an exhaustive search within a 50 mile radius, this location had the blanks for it! As a matter of fact, they have a couple of walls filled with blanks of almost every type of key in existance. The keys I got worked the first time and I highly recommend coming here even if it is for a basic. 2 dollar key because the guy that works there is so professional. There is street parking available. Great service on my 2003 Toyota Tundra Pickup. I looked on Yelp and selected Foothill because they had a high rating and were close to my house in NW Pasadena. I got service from three different staff members, and they were all very helpful with no nonsense, no upsell and a positive, can-do attitude. I first went in just to get a copy of my truck key and an oddball key for my trailer hitch lock that the local hardware stores didn't have and couldn't get. Foothill not only had that blanks in stock, but they cut the copies very quickly, and when it turned out that the blank was slightly too thick to fit in the lock smoothly, they ground it down to fit in just a few minutes. I then inquired if they could fix the lock on my truck driver side door, which wasn't locking with the key. They were able to do that for a reasonable price, given that they had to open the door panel and take out the lock to fix it. Not only that, but they installed a new handle for me (that I had on hand, but needed to install) at no extra charge! Finally, they were able to determine that my truck was wired for factory remote entry, and were able to program two remotes for me, again at a very reasonable charge. And all this work was done in two hours on a Saturday afternoon. If I had had this work done at the Toyota dealer, it would probably have cost me double, and taken all day. I am working on a flip key conversion for my 2012 Subaru Legacy. And I needed to get the key laser cut which they can do at the dealer for a pretty penny! Called up Foothill Lock & Key and they told me they could do it for $25.00 and program for $65. I went in after work and the staff was super friendly, they got my key cut right away. They even had me go and test it to make sure it would turn in the door since I couldn't completely test it without the transponder programmed, but they said to bring it back if I have any problems. read more

Had the pleasure of being let into the home I had locked myself out of yesterday. It took me a bit to find a service I was comfortable with. All the 1-800 guys were rude and too pricey and sounded very bothered that I needed a simple little job. Once I reached Foothill I breathed a sigh of relief. After my deadbolt lock on my closet stopped working I went to the local hardware store to get a replacement. Turns out it was a special deadbolt. Foothill Lock & Key was recommended. I went in, showed him what I had and he knew exactly what I needed. Since it was a little different than the standard deadbolts he showed me how to install and even explained some possible issues I may run into. They came out to where my car was since it was inoperable, having cut the keys at their premises and then bringing them out. They were not able to complete the job. They did cut it and programmed it to start the car. The locksmith could not program the door remote and in his frustration became rude. I live 5 minutes from the shop. When I called about having lost my house key, I was quoted a range. They showed up quickly and did the job quickly and charged me top of the range ($145) and gave me one key. I asked if ,at that price, I could get a second key and was told that it would be $5.00 more. I have been having very hard time just to see a car with FOOTHILL LOCK and KEY logo on it. I asked this company to make a duplicate antique key for my bedroom, they never finished the job, gave duplicate key back / with doorknob/ back with missing parts, after being late more than 3 days! They asked me to pay $65 AFTER verbally agreed on $30... for copy two single keys. I was very disappointed and refused to pay. It has been 2.5 half month now. Owner's employee has been showing up at my door, knocking on my window very aggressively every single week. Employee contacting my neighbors, my tenant if he opens the door for Foothill Locks.. Foothill Lock and Key employee stopping me on my driveway when I am pulling out from my garage. It has been a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. I called to have someone come look at my front door lock and handle and within a half hour, Paul came. He took everything apart to find a broken spring and was able to replace it. He then discovered the handle mechanism was badly worn and needed to be replaced. He did what he could to keep it working while we ordered a new lock and handle.
