Wow! I'm happy I went to Foothill Lock & Key! I've had the door lock of my Honda Civic replaced twice. First in 2015 at another locksmith and now in 2019 at Foothill L&K. I'll stick with Foothill L&K for future needs and here's why: 1. Foothill L&K suggested taking some tumblers out of the door lock so that the repair will last longer. But they left the decision up to me. 2. Foothill L&K was up-front about the repair, stating that I should try to use the remote to minimize wear on the lock. 3. Foothill L&K noticed that the remote lacked a "loop" for attaching it to my key ring. They suggested buying a small pouch for it so I could re-attach it to my key ring using the pouch's loop so I won't lose it. 4. Foothill L&K was friendly and I felt cared for as an individual. read more

Had a lock install at my work place, which was wrongly selected and sold and hacked to fit. Months later the deadbolt lock falls off, they want to charge more for another lock and service and they did... No returns taken on the original lock (we got stuck with it) which they over charge and over the replacement. Bad work happen everywhere once in while... these guys might be good, but not all time. This is a much overdue review to say how awesome Foothill lock & key is. I live in a 100 year old house nearby and have two young kids. I used our skeleton key to lock myself and my newborn in our upstairs bedroom so our toddler couldn't bug us (so I could nap). That plan worked great until neither I nor my husband could open the door back up with the skeleton key. It's about 4pm and I'm calling locksmiths like crazy explaining the dire circumstances. Foothill lock and key was the only business that got it right away and was there in 20 minutes. If you are looking to deal with scheisty, underhanded people, this is the place for you! I set up an appointment Tuesday night for Wednesday morning. I saw their ad on Google and the prices seemed very reasonable, so I called, told them my need for rekeying 2 locks and 1,2,3 my appointment was set. I asked what rekeying a door and a deadbolt was running, when the woman on the line said, they'd give me a price after looking at the door, I very ignorantly accepted this answer. The locksmith arrived within the specified timeframe, and my partner was home to meet him. The locksmith examines the lock and quotes my partner an outrageous price, my partner, shocked by the amount but feeling stuck, he felt obligated to allow the locksmith to proceed. Once the locksmith removed the lock and took it to his van to rekey, my partner called me with the quote. Obviously the quote was know where near what had been advertised, so I said I'd call the services office to get things figured out. I called the office, they confirmed the price and it was then that I said no thanks and told them I would not pay that price so they needed to put my lock back together. At this point they put me on hold and from there they proceeded to haggle with me. After putting me on hold several times the office and I agreed on a price. Great! Cool! Let's get this thing done! The locksmith comes back in and my partner asked if he had been told the new price that was agreed on, the locksmith calls his office to confirm, yes, it's true, the job was now going to be done for a considerably lower price, still high, but definitely more reasonable. The locksmith gets underway once again and while he's working he notifies my partner the new price I had been quoted would only cover one lock... Needless to say I called the office again, confused as to why the company was not going to honor our newly agreed upon quote. It turns out the office "thought" there was only 1 lock to be rekeyed, even though their employee on site had originally quoted a price for 2, and was standing in my doorway with 2 dismantled locks. So the employees of this establishment worked hard trying to convince me that I had agreed to pay more than half of the original quote now for just one lock. Ultimately I had to give in to their moronically obvious bait and switch scheme and just get the one lock as they were now holding my doorknob hostage, refusing to put it back together. Anyway, their customer service included hanging up on me, putting me on hold for extended periods of time, lying, patronizing and finally empty promises of calling me back. I did get 1 lock done, yay! Oh and guess what, not only was I totally screwed over by this company with the locks... We were given 1 key. However, the locksmith did try to console my partner by pointing out that it was a 'big' key. So when it comes down to it, I don't even want to give them a portion of a star as they deserve nothing including your patronage. I needed to make a duplicate of my key which was not simple/general enough for OSH or Home depot to handle, so I had to go to a locksmith. It seemed that there are several high-rated locksmiths, including those that are rated higher than this Foothill Lock & Key, but this place was the only one that opens until 7PM. So I gave it a try. I arrived about 5 minutes before 7PM. The guy greeted me nicely, and took care of my keys right away. Very prompt, the whole process was done within 5 minutes or so. He asked me how I found the place. I told him that I found it on yelp, and surprisingly, he said he's glad that I chose his store and didn't charge for my keys which was supposed to be $6-7! But my house was built in 1921 and not every locksmith or hardware store stocks my replacement key, foothill has had it in the past, but my luck there has run out. after a cursory look through his stock, the clerk notified me he didn't have it in stock and i could wait until it comes in or go to their new location on colorado. i asked - you're sure you have it at the new store? yes, he replied. so i changed my errand route and went to the new location. the clerk working at the new location was even worse - after taking my key another customer came in and he was far more interested in her key needs than mine. again, a cursory look and he told me he could order it... waste of my time. i'm going to antrim's for all my key needs! read more

I called them today for a reason...GREAT SERVICE. Both times, my initial contact person was Romeo. I explained my situation to him and he was very accommodating. He sent Ali to my home. Ali is SUCH a nice guy. He keyed the door in question (an office door) to the same key that I use for most of my other doors. Man!! I didn't even know that was an option. I have used Foothill Lock & Key numerous times over the years (for various house keys for old houses, including just last week, and they're excellent. They come up with creative solutions when necessary, show up on time, and do great work. They follow up with a call to see if you're happy with their work, and they come back right away if there are any lingering problems or questions. Really, things that drive me crazy for years are fixed in one visit. There's a lesson there. Oh, and they offered me a free key as thanks for my patronage! (The only improvement would be if they wrote their names on the receipt to make it easier to say who came to the house, if you have to call back. I hate having to describe people!) read more

This is a long overdue five star review for Foothill Lock & Key. Several months ago we called them, asking if they had someone who was familiar with old interior locking mechanisms. In fact they did, and the man who came out was absolutely fabulous! He knew the inside workings of our front door which is original to our house which was built in 1923. He took the locking mechanism back to the shop did some work on it replaced some parts and reinstalled it as good as new. Well, I should probably say as good as old, because his work matched the character and functionality of our old Bungalow house. We were thrilled to know that there was a lock and key business in Pasadena that had an employee who could deal with interior locking mechanisms for an old vintage house. He overcharged me even though it took under a minute to get into my home. I felt unsafe to decline his quote considering this was a stranger in my home. Very good experience here. Cam over 20 miles for a car key that's difficult to find a shop that can do it. They had the special software that could do it, but the key I bought on the internet was defective. They gave it there best, but in the end the key wouldn't work properly. Was looking for someone to rekey my doors to my condo. I was quoted $45 for "foot time" (just to come to your home), and $15 for every "normal" door/key. The guy that came told me if I didn't have the key, they'd have to charge me $25 for the specific key, I felt a little swindled, so I said fine, don't change that door, just change the front door. Then he said "ok fine, I'll do it for $15." Just felt he tried to swindle me a little bit because that's what I was quoted, but I wanted to stand firm on what was quoted to me. After five locksmiths, this one was the only one who could laser cut my auto key. It was a hard key to cut, because it would keep popping out of the vice. Many of the other locksmiths actually had the special machine, but they wouldn't cut the key. The owner kept trying and got it done. Then he did a second key. Highly recommend! read more

The front door's deadbolt to the house was starting to stick. Went here to buy a more solid dead bolt as they are the closest distributor for Medeco. Came and and they asked what area I lived in and what type of building. He didn't exactly sway me to something cheaper, but hinted what I was looking for was overkill. So I got a new dead bolt that I wanted to install myself. He showed me what to do. Got home and saw the new latch was bigger and didn't want to go buy yet another tool I would only use once or twice. Called them up and they sent out someone to install the dead bolt for me. The guy promptly came out. He also brought along a new doorknob and said he would rekey that to the new deadbolt. I figured why not and now we have a new deadbolt and knob all keyed together. I was glad to get rid of the old kwikset stuff installed by the previous owners. The guy installing mentioned how it was garbage and that he could pick that in under 10 seconds. Said it would take him about 15 minutes to pick our new locks. Sounds good enough to me. These guys seem pretty upfront about what they are selling and installing. read more

Our front door had been hard to open for a while and I broke off the key trying to open the lock. I called on. Thursday afternoon and asked for an appointment on Friday morning. The gentleman on the on the phone was very friendly. The locksmith was right on time and quickly removed the key and lubricated the lock. It made me wonder if I could have done it myself, but it is one of those things that if you know how to do it is easy and if you don't it takes a whole afternoon to do. It was someone from Foothill L&K returning my call, even though I had hung up and didn't leave a message. How cool was that? They responded even though I didn't leave a message and they are closed on Sundays. By the way, it was a holiday weekend too (Memorial Day). I'm leaving this review because, even though I didn't use their services, the fact that someone called me back to see if I needed their services was just good business.
