We were greeted immediately upon entering by a friendly sales associate who showed us which keys would be compatible. The only critique is that there were waaay more key selections for the SC1 than the KW1 which was a bummer but I did get a leopard print key that looks cool! I just got a car that came with only 1 key. I ordered a replacement key online and was able to program the chip myself. It comes with a physical key as a backup and this key is laser cut. I looked around everywhere to get the blank cut to match the laser cut key. I drove by Altadena lock and key and decided to stop in. My wife and I were delivering our first born child during the Eaton Fire. We watched our home burn to the ground from our hospital room and as we were being discharged we had no idea on what to do next. All our personal possessions went up in flames and were blessed enough to be taken in by family. Once I had the chance to get back to the burned house I was amazed that my 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee did not burn, only a melted tire and broken window was the only damage, but the key was in the house. I'm bummed to write this review. Altadena Lock & Key has been our go-to locksmith for 25 years. They've re-keyed every house we've had in that time. I would have (and have) highly recommended them until now. We recently purchased a new house and needed all the locks rekeyed. I stopped into the store on Monday and made an appointment for today, Friday. We drove out to the house and waited two hours. No show. So we called and asked what's up. The guy told us that because the boss was out of town, he made the appointment (not true, the appointment was made a young man who was tending the store on Monday), and forgot to put it on the calendar. Way to throw your boss under the bus. The guy on the phone blamed the boss and said they'd come back around 2:30pm. Not awesome, but we needed to get this done. We left, had some lunch, and returned. Once again, no one showed up and no one called. Around 4:30pm, I called to check in again, was told they were "slammed." The guy who answered said he was going to get the boss on the phone to talk to me, the one that was supposedly on vacation. I waited five minutes and then he hung up on me. It was obvious they didn't just place the receiver on the base. It was slammed down. Sadly, it appears Altadena Lock & Key has gone down hill. This is extremely unprofessional and rude. I'm really disappointed and was willing to give them a chance considering our long history, but I really don't appreciate being treated like this. We wasted an entire day waiting for them only to be stood up, lied to, and then hung up on. Looks like we must find a new locksmith. This is no way to run a business. read more

Manuel, the owner of this business, is a super competent and kind person. He fixed the lock on my front door 1936 and it is perfect again. I would recommend this man and his business 100% or more. It was a real treat to see how organized his van was to be able to fix any kind of key or lock problem in existence, I have just recommended him to two of my friends who plan on using him. The negative reviews are not about him. I found out that they were the result of somebody using his name to supposedly make repairs, but they were apparently crooks. Manuel the owner is just the best. My CRV driver side door key was damaged by attempted thieves and Honda estimated a three month wait and $580. Manuel and his team located a difficult to find key part in downtown, and installed it on after closing hours. The thief used a screwdriver and broke a cable and the cosmetic cover. They were called by the HOA president. The lock to our door was broken and were unable to enter our apartment. He showed up in the time provided, was very attentive, and knowledgeable on the subject. I came here with an issue with my car door! Yes a car door! My key wouldn't turn my car door key hole which means I either had to have it locked and I can't get in after that or leave my car door unlocked (2004 Honda Civic) so I was referred here by a mechanic and let me tell you the quality of experience I received from the young man behind the counter was unbelievable. This young man solved my issue for I think 60$ vs 500$ another mechanic wanted to charge me to replace the motor in the door. I highly recommend these guys real honest establishment! Someone stole my purse over the weekend with all my keys and i needed to make some right away to get into my office. The owner is really nice and the service is very fast, the keys are not the duplicate kind but the building owner called and ave him authorization to make more. I mentioned to him that i was using my spare car key and i need to make another one, he said his son wasn't there but they can make it for me. He sent his son to my office and he made a spare car key in less than 15 mins, he only charged $80 including the programming. The keys all work great haven't had any issues with any of them. The service person was the best of the experience. The jobs we wanted done were done correctly. However he showed up 20 minutes later than our appointment time and that's after calling them to make sure they were coming. This has become my go to lock and key location. They have the ability to copy some obscure keys without a problem.

I needed to get several keys made and saw this shop while I was running errands. I stopped in and spoke with Luis (sorry if I misspelled that). He said no problem and asked for the the keys I needed copies of. I asked if it would be ok if I waited in the car because I had my dog with me. He said of course! And to come back in less than 10 minutes Pros: very fast service and Luis is so friendly and kind. He made my keys really quickly and even swapped out a ring on a keychain I bought that I didn't like. It was an "easy access ring" and he changed it for a normal ring. Pretty cheap. $2-$3 a key. There is a decent selection of keychains too. Cons: none! Tips: ask for Luis! He is really polite and friendly. Park right behind the shop - the main lot can be a little packed due to the laundry mat but there are lots of spaces directly behind it. read more
